Assessor's comments
This is a well-presented assignment with a fully referenced set of
appendices. It is easy to follow and covers the tasks well. Occasionally some
of your more complex ideas could be expressed with greater clarity – just by
using more punctuation or writing in a shorter sentence. You have done
much supporting work and analysed the current situation to generate useful
recommendations and solutions
Your introduction to the appendices clearly identifies all the supporting
material.
(My comments below are based on the sections in the task assignment
schedule and not on your own assignment headings)
1. Examination of existing methods
You identify the current method used and rapidly establish its flaws and put a
system in place to deal with them. Communication with colleagues is clear
and supportive and outlines a sound course of action.
Your productivity report gives an excellent summary of the causes of low
productivity and your proposed solutions
2. Impact of bonus payments
A neat review of the existing system clearly outlining the benefits for long
term employees and identifying the problems for short term workers.

3 preparation and analysis of S curves
You have used these well to demonstrate the slippage in the project. You
also describe the challenges of the project and the means you used to get
things back on track. Interestingly the reward scheme you used was fair to all
staff! Your earlier work on man-hours tracking and identification doubtless
gave you confidence that the records shown on the S curves were accurate.
The material presented in appendix 7 and your own analysis show the
benefits of monitoring. And you show a small cost saving.
4 Conclusions and Recommendations
Your introduction of the simple spreadsheet is very worthwhile. Following up
you instructions with the presentation was an excellent way of ensuring the
message was put across and people understood.
I hope you get management support throughout PSN for your work. Your
section on Continuous Improvement is highly pertinent. You are so right
about control being the key. Other organisations are seeing this too as you
may know that Talisman has had many training meetings on planning and
scheduling. Another company (Shell?) has introduced the new post of "work
preparator" to make sure everything is in place prior to work commencing.
Preparators also check that jobs have not been entered into the system on
more then one occasion!
Your personal development
In this report you have shown great interest in this aspect of management.
Have you ever considered gong further with your training and education in
this area?
