4. Primeros años de vida
Tenía dos hermanos Robert Todd
Williams y McLaurin Smith Williams.
Su padre, Robert Williams, era un alto
ejecutivo en la industria del automóvil y su
madre, Laurie Williams, modelo.
Creció en un ambiente económicamente
holgado y durante su infancia y pubertad
no mostró interés por la interpretación. En
cambio, se centró en sus estudios y en
practicar deportes.
5. Una decisión importante
La familia de Williams se trasladó en 1967 a Marina
County, California, donde continuaría sus estudios.
Más tarde se despertó su interés por el teatro, lo que
le llevó a abandonar los estudios de ciencias políticas
con la intención de iniciar su carrera como actor.
Ingresó en la prestigiosa academia de interpretación
Juilliard School, Nueva York.
Tres años más tarde, Williams regresó a California y
se instaló en San Francisco, donde buscaba su
oportunidad en comedias teatrales.
En 1976, cuando tenía 25 años, fue a una prueba y lo
contrataron, lo cual marcaría el inicio de su carrera.

No fue un secreto que a lo largo de su vida el actor de "En busca del destino" o "Patch
Adams" sufrió varias adicciones.
La cocaína y el alcohol formaron
parte de su vida. En 2006, después
de dos décadas de sobriedad, su
publicista aceptó en un
comunicado que Williams había
tenido que ingresar en una clínica
de rehabilitación porque había
recaído en la bebida.

A
Williams también admitió en público su adicción a la
cocaína, a la que llamaba "el polvo de marcha peruano" o
"la caspa del diablo". También bromeaba que esta droga
era "la forma como Dios te comunica que estás ganando
demasiado dinero

Antes de dedicarse a la actuación, Williams era
un reconocido comediante de Stand Up.
Sin embargo, una de las declaraciones
más poderosas del documental proviene
de uno de sus mejores amigos, el
también comediante y actor Billy Cristal,

reír.
