Not long ago the question was whether your organization had big data. Did you have the volume, the velocity, the technology. Now those basics are largely given for most of the people attending this event. The path to success is still fuzzy, however, with so many technologies to choose from – and so many ways to use them.
This presentation triangulates in a holistic manner on the modern business dilemma: how can we leverage technology to improve revenue, profit, market share, and numerous other success criteria. That said, this is not about the analytics or KPIs -- although it is about measurable improvement. It’s about lining up the right technologies and using them in effective, proven ways to maximize Return on Investment (ROI). Since the slant here is holistic, we’ll show how to blend infrastructure, tools, methods, and talent to avoid and constantly trim technical debt… and to produce success stories that are consistently repeatable, not a byproduct of individual heroics.
Are you already using Intuit's QuickBooks and want to make sure you’re making the best use of it? Join this free, 90-minute webinar with QuickBooks Made Easy founder Gregg Bossen to expand your existing knowledge. This webinar covers topics including
Best practices for list setup

Tracking restricted grants
Inputting in-kind gifts
This webinar is best suited for U.S.-based nonprofit users of QuickBooks Premier installed on their desktops who are already using the program to manage their accounting. Attendees should already be familiar with the basics.
The future of customer support is AI-driven automation. Soon, we’ll interact conversationally with bots that know who we are and how to fix our problem right the first time. Soon, the capabilities of virtual agents will far exceed those of today’s best humans. We’ll receive support that is more reliable than friends, more accurate than social media, and less frustrating than waiting on hold.
In this session, we’ll discuss how artificial intelligence is impacting IT. We’ll cover research trends, technical challenges, and the cultural implications of AI-driven automation. We’ll also discuss how AI and natural language processing (NLP) can be used to improve KPIs like MTTR, FCR, cost per ticket, and customer satisfaction.
You'll leave better informed, less frightened, and armed with actionable advice to help you spearhead your team's vision for the future of IT.
This document summarizes an online event hosted by a New York City community group. End-to-end pipeline agility - Berlin Buzzwords 2024Lars Albertsson
We describe how we achieve high change agility in data engineering by eliminating the fear of breaking downstream data pipelines through end-to-end pipeline testing, and by using schema metaprogramming to safely eliminate boilerplate involved in changes that affect whole pipelines.
A quick poll on agility in changing pipelines from end to end indicated a huge span in capabilities. For the question "How long time does it take for all downstream pipelines to be adapted to an upstream change," the median response was 6 months, but some respondents could do it in less than a day. When quantitative data engineering differences between the best and worst are measured, the span is often 100x-1000x, sometimes even more.
A long time ago, we suffered at Spotify from fear of changing pipelines due to not knowing what the impact might be downstream. We made plans for a technical solution to test pipelines end-to-end to mitigate that fear, but the effort failed for cultural reasons. We eventually solved this challenge, but in a different context. In this presentation we will describe how we test full pipelines effectively by manipulating workflow orchestration, which enables us to make changes in pipelines without fear of breaking downstream.
Making schema changes that affect many jobs also involves a lot of toil and boilerplate. Using schema-on-read mitigates some of it, but has drawbacks since it makes it more difficult to detect errors early. We will describe how we have rejected this tradeoff by applying schema metaprogramming, eliminating boilerplate but keeping the protection of static typing, thereby further improving agility to quickly modify data pipelines without fear.
