Reaching Beyond the Classroom: Creating Sustainable Learning Opportunities th...Cynthia James
The community outreach in SK Kunak 2, Kunak, Sabah started in 2011 through several meetings and workshops with the parents under the British Council’s English Language Teachers Development Project (ELTDP). Today, it has expanded beyond the project and has transformed into a home-school partnership. The main aim is to create better learning opportunities for the students. This partnership is built through parent-teacher conferences, collaborative projects, home visits and other outreach activities. In this session, we will share our journey – how the partnership started and developed, the challenges that we faced, how it finally transformed into a long-term collaboration and how we plan to keep it going. We will also show how we inspire others with our story by sharing it in conferences, blog and publications. The impact of the partnership on teachers, parents and students is reflected through feedback from the community members, the students’ attitudes towards learning and the school’s academic performance. Throughout this session, we will share our story by showing pictures and videos that would prompt interactive discussions with the participants. Participants will be invited to reflect on the question: “Is going beyond the classroom worth it?”

Roles of 'Praying Mantis' in agriculture.AKak Long
Farmers are always faced with continuous problems about pests and insects destroying their crops. This is really a big problem if it is not controlled since their crops are their main source of livelihood and income. Most farmers would use insecticides but the government is controlling the use of pesticides due to the possible effects of these chemicals to the crops. For this reason, it will be very useful if farmers are taught about praying mantis facts.
Praying mantises are actually widely used in certain parts of the world as pest control insects. They may be insects themselves but they never eat crops, leaves, or plants. This information should be shared to farmers because using praying mantises for their pest control procedures will be beneficial for them in terms of getting rid of insects that eat their crops and in helping the environment as well.
For farmers, it must be taught that praying mantises are highly predatory and they can consume numerous types of insects in their farms without posing any type of threat to their crops and plants. But praying mantises do not choose their prey too. So if they eat insects that harm your plants, they may also eat insects that actually help your crops.

The Use of Audiobooks in Improving Reading Comprehension and Changing Percept...Cynthia James
Audiobooks are valuable tools that have a lot of untapped potentials and benefits. This research explores the two different roles that audiobooks can play in helping reluctant readers to improve their reading skills and to get them to be more interested in reading. The research is conducted in a Malaysian primary school in a small village. It is targeted on 20 children who have been identified as reluctant readers. In the first cycle of this research, the role of audiobooks is as an input for learning. Audiobooks are used to assist children in their reading through lessons in the classroom, in Book Club meetings and also at home. In the second cycle, the role of audiobooks is as an output or product of learning. The respondents are engaged in the Project Audiobook, where they are given the opportunity to work collaboratively with their peers to create audiobooks. The quantitative data in this research is gathered through pre and post tests as well as through a survey. The qualitative data is gathered through pre and post interviews. The findings of this research reveal that audiobooks are able to improve the respondents’ reading comprehension skills. The findings also show that audiobooks have the ability to engage reluctant readers and help develop their self-perceptions as readers. The research shows that the potentials of audiobooks can be optimised to the fullest when they are used in combination with effective strategies such as collaborative learning, ICT integration and communicative approach.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

1. Ants live in large groups called colonies. Each
colony consists of three types of ants. They are
the queen, the workers and the males.
The queen and the males have wings, while the
workers do not. Usually, a colony consists of
only one queen ant. The queen is the only ant
that can lay eggs. The queen is also the largest
ant in the colony.
The workers have different duties to perform
in the colony. Some take care of eggs. Some
take care of newly hatched ants called larvae.
Some gather food and keep their home clean.
Ants use their antennae to find food and to find
their way back home. Ants are omnivorous. They
eat both meat and plants.
Some worker ants are given the duty of soldier
to defend the colony, and even attack enemy
colonies for food and nesting space. These
soldier ants are normally bigger than the rest
of the workers. They also have bigger and
stronger mandibles.
