This document summarizes recent guidelines for anticoagulation therapy. It provides 29 recommendations covering topics such as the choice and duration of anticoagulation for different types of venous thromboembolism (VTE) events, the use of inferior vena cava filters and thrombolysis, and the management of recurrent VTE. The guidelines suggest long-term anticoagulation for most VTEs and extended therapy for unprovoked or cancer-associated events. They recommend against vena cava filters and routine thrombolysis except in specific high-risk situations.
