An Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) is a civil court order issued in the UK and Ireland against individuals who have engaged in anti-social behavior. Breaking an ASBO is a criminal offense punishable by up to 5 years in prison. ASBOs ban certain behaviors and activities for a minimum of 2 years and are meant to protect victims and communities. Local authorities, police forces, and social landlords can apply for ASBOs. While criticized by some, ASBOs are used to address ongoing inappropriate behavior that may not be prosecuted through a single criminal incident.
