Case studies show how productions chose local resources, public transit, and renewable energy to offset over 250 tons of carbon while saving over €37,000. The guidelines help streamline production processes and build cultural awareness of sustainable practices.

Xerox has a longstanding commitment to environmental sustainability across its operations, products, and partnerships. It focuses on reducing its carbon footprint, preserving forests and biodiversity, preventing waste, and developing more sustainable paper and printing solutions for customers. Xerox was a pioneer in remanufacturing and power management for equipment, and continues to innovate through new technologies like EA toner that reduce energy and material usage.
1) The document discusses sustainable packaging strategies and initiatives in the foodservice industry. It addresses legislation around reducing waste and increasing recycling rates.
2) Material options that are more sustainable like renewable, recycled, and biodegradable materials are outlined. The challenges with establishing infrastructure for collecting and processing certain materials is also noted.
3) HGS's European strategy prioritizes using renewable and recycled materials in their packaging designs when possible. Their hierarchy of material choice and environmental criteria for packaging design are explained. Metrics for reducing weight, carbon footprint, and chemicals are part of their strategy.

The document discusses clean production, carbon footprints, and green economies. Some key points:
- Clean production aims to reduce environmental impacts and risks through preventative strategies like good housekeeping, input substitution, and product modification. It benefits companies through cost savings, increased profits, and improved productivity.
- Carbon footprints measure the total greenhouse gas emissions from human activities. They are calculated to identify reduction opportunities and measure progress. Common sources of emissions include transportation, food production, and manufacturing.
- Green economies aim to transition to renewable energy and more sustainable practices across sectors like energy, buildings, transport, and waste management. This supports economic growth within environmental limits and creates opportunities for new green jobs.
At Greenlam, we understand sustainability as how we consume and harness resources, not only in the environment but in the society and economy too. We believe creating beautiful spaces can never be at the cost of causing damage to our planet because climate change is a reality. Hence, we are committed to making better products using processes that are sustainable and their impact gentle on the people and the planet. Our vision is to create a balance between economic growth and positive social impact by embracing methods that promote environmental protection and renewal. One such method is using a pressurised hot water process that achieves the industry’s benchmark of water consumption per unit produced. With this, we have successfully reduced our groundwater withdrawal, STP loads with high TDS treatable water, and the consequent power consumption.

This document discusses sustainability practices in the plastics industry. It outlines the different types of plastics, their toxicity levels, and recycling recommendations. It also discusses standards and regulations for plastics manufacturing in the US and India. Popular sustainability practices and top plastics companies in India are highlighted, including their sustainability initiatives around reducing waste and emissions. The document concludes that while progress has been made, more can still be done to promote sustainability in the plastics industry.
This document provides an introduction to cleaner production concepts and tools. It defines cleaner production as applying integrated preventive strategies to processes, products, and services to increase efficiency and reduce risks. This involves saving resources and eliminating toxins in production, reducing impacts in product design, and incorporating environmental considerations in services. Cleaner production follows a methodology including data collection, identifying waste sources, generating reduction options, feasibility analysis, implementation, and ongoing improvement. It aims to increase utilization of materials and energy until waste and emissions are eliminated. This provides commercial benefits by reducing costs compared to traditional end-of-pipe waste management.

Why a new stamp?
In order to ensure that a coherent message
underpins these different actions and to
deliver a consistent, structured, group-wide
eco-responsible strategy, Antalis created the
corporate green identity known as “Antalis

means that, going forward, such dedicated
eco-responsible communications tool as the
“green stamp”, an immediately recognisable
logo that will set Antalis apart, will appear on
all actions when they refer to eco-responsible
projects or initiatives.
Next are a number of ambitious undertakings
that now carry the Antalis green stamp and
support the group’s objective to lead the way
in environmental responsibility.

of the fibre and the manufacturing process,
which represent the two main environmental
impacts of paper in its life cycle, and attributes
each paper product a star rating from zero to
five based on environmental performance.
■ Origin of the fibre
For a product to be eco-responsible, the wood
fibres must either be FSC®
/PEFC™ certified or
at least 50% recycled from post-consumer
waste with the remaining in line with FSC®
or
PEFC™ standards.
■ Manufacturing process
For a product to be defined as eco-responsible,
either the mills that produce the paper
must carry ISO 14001 certification (based
on a framework for the development of an
environmental management system – EMS –
and the supporting audit programme) or the
paper must carry the EU Ecolabel (lifecycle
based approach).

RECYCLE
A 5-star product

at least
50% recycled fibres
Antalis believes that a paper achieves
environmental excellence when it is made from
at least 50% post-consumer recycled fibres,
with the remaining in line with FSC®
or PEFC™
standards, and also carries EU Ecolabel
certification. Why choosing a recycled paper?
What does the EU Ecolabel guarantees? The
two principles combine to form a virtuous mix,
which will be detailed below.
THE ADVANTAGES OF RECYCLED PAPER
■ To reduce pressure on wood
resources
Recycled fibre comes from waste
collection whereas virgin fibre
comes from natural resources i.e.
wood from trees. Recycling therefore has
the advantage of using existing paper to
produce pulp, hence reducing demand for
wood resources by 24 trees per ton of
paper.
■ To save energy and water
Recycled paper mills require less energy, less
water and safer chemicals overall, primarily for
pulp making. Typical savings from producing
recycled paper vs virgin paper are estimated
to be on average 33%1
for energy, 49%1
for
water.
■ To reduce CO2
emissions
Recycling gives paper new life, an essential
benefit of recycled paper, as the paper
can be recycled from 4 to 7 times
before its fibres become too short
for recycling. Compared to virgin
paper’s manufacturing process
and due to the lower use of energy,

9. recycled paper also saves about 37%1
of
greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition, the end of life stages of paper
(especially landfilling and incineration)
contribute significantly to global warming
(an average of 1/3 of its whole life cycle
impact). By using recycled paper, you
avoid this stage, and thus the associated
emissions.

For any company serious about
environmental responsibility and aiming
to demonstrate a 5-star environmental
performance to stakeholders, choosing
recycled paper carrying the EU Ecolabel
is the way to go. Furthermore, opting
for recycled paper no longer means
compromising on quality, performance,

OF ANTALIS
5 GREEN STAR
PAPERS
This section highlights most of the Antalis
product ranges granted with 5 green stars,
i.e. produced from a minimum of 50% post-
consumer recycled fibres, with the remaining
in line with FSC®
or PEFCTM standards, and
carrying the EU Ecolabel. All these papers
cover a large scope of paper shades (from
natural to high white), hence covering many
paper applications, from commercial brochures
to annual reports, business cards, labelling,
office A3/A4 printouts, envelopes… to name a
few. They also cover all the common printing
technologies: litho-offset, digital, laser and
inkjet copier printers.
