This document defines and provides examples of anomaly, metaphor, and idiom. Anomaly refers to words used in a way that differs from their usual meaning, resulting in a sentence that is grammatically correct but meaningless. A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes one thing as being another thing to convey similarities between them. An idiom is a phrase with a meaning different from the literal meanings of its individual words. Examples of each are given to illustrate their features and usage.
