Exotic species
Exotic species are species living outside their native range that can be introduced either intentionally for economic reasons or accidentally through shipping or releases of pets. Not all introduced species will survive as they must compete with native species for food and habitat and be compatible with local ecological conditions. Those that do survive and reproduce can threaten native diversity by preying upon native species or altering habitats since they are freed from natural controls in their native range.
