Essay about Salome and Cupid
The paintings Salome with the Head of St. John the Baptist, by Guido Reni and Cupid Chastised,
by Bartolomeo Manfredi are both 17th century visual representations of a story. The story behind
Salome is the interesting biblical story of the beheading of St. John the Baptist, as it s title
suggests. The story goes that Salome performed a dance for the king and his guests. Herod Antipas
saw Salome s dance and was so impressed, and drunk, that he promised to give her whatever she
asked of him. After consulting her mother, Salome asks Herod for the head of John the Baptist.
Herod delivered on his promise, and had the head of John the Baptist delivered to her on a platter,
as she asked. Reni s paintingdepicts a contented Salome being... Show more content on

The cool green and grays that surrounds Salome can symbolize her cool, calm, staid disposition,
and almost blasГ© attitude in light of what is before her, the head of a dead man. The two women
in the back left of the plane are wearing more vibrant colors but are muted by a shadow. Salome is
the focal point of the piece, therefore receiving more light and wearing brighter colors than the
other figures in the painting. She and the head of John the Baptist are the only figures that are not
crossed by a pronounced shadow, both are illuminated by the light that extends from the right of the
composition. This value construction puts emphasis on the two main characters, the figures that
hold the most narrative weight.
Goldish yellow, pink and white are the colors of Salome s dress. The yellow in Salome s dress
can be taken as a reflection of her confident and satisfied posture and facial expression. Pink can
symbolize femininity or sexuality, a major factor behind the events of the story. For it was Salome
s display of these qualities, in her dance, that moved Herod so much as to grant her any request.
These vibrant colors also provide contrast to the cool background, with pink (a tint or red) serving
as a contrast to green, further emphasizing the protagonist woman and relating to the viewer her
significance in the story behind the depiction. Similarly, in Cupid Chastised vibrant foreground
colors contrast a neutral background. Mars fiery red garment stands

3d Printing History
Its One thing to 3D print something as advanced and cutting edge as a Jet engine motor, but it is
another to fuel it up, take it to the runway and push the start button. This is the stride GE
aviation achieved when it fired up the motor of a simple Jet engine, made completely of in
house designed and 3D printed parts, at a test stand normally reserved for commercial jet
engines. GE Aviation is a world leading provider of jet and turboprop engines, components and
integrated systems for commercial, military, business and general aviation aircraft propulsion
applications. GE Aviation has a global service network to support these offerings. 3D printing or
additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital
design. The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an additive
process the desired object is created by laying down successive layers of material (usually molten
alloy or plastics) until the entire object is formed. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly
sliced horizontal cross section of the eventual object.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best part is that the nozzles, like those used in the best selling Leap engine manufactured by
GE Aviation, were traditionally machined from 20 separate parts. Now with 3D printing, each
nozzle is one solid part, assembled by layering powdered metal melted and fused together with
lasers. With 19 fuel nozzles per engine, it s a substantial difference that helps to streamline the
manufacturing and assembly process. It also cuts down on design

The Effects Of Conventional Energy Sources And Increasing...
Depleting nature of the conventional energy sources and increasing cost of electrical energy are
forcing mankind to look for possible modifications in the existing systems towards lower energy
consumption without sacrificing the purpose for which it is used. The household refrigerator used
extensively all over the world for preserving various food products is one such system which
accounts for the substantial part of the house electricity bills. Refrigeratoris a machine which lifts up
the heatfrom low evaporator temperature (pressure) and pumps it against the high condenser
temperatures (pressure).
Following were the objectives decided for achieving this aim:
1.To study the literature on domestic refrigerator with higher evaporator temperature in the
temperature range of 265K 270K.
2.To study existing domestic refrigerator including lower temperatures.
3.To design and fabricate a suitable capillary tube to be used with the modified refrigerator to
provide required evaporator temperature.
4.Redesigning the shape of the evaporator used in the refrigerator.
5.To evaluate the performance of the system using recommended test procedures in the literature.
6.To evaluate economic viability of the system for modifying the existing systems.
The reason behind selecting the temperature range 268K 272K for domestic refrigerator in the
evaporator is to study the effects of the this temperature range on stored products and to increase
coefficient of performance of the

Musical Exoticism In Britten s Death In Venice
Music 15: Paper #2 In the late nineteenth century, France forged a new path in music and ushered
in the practice of musical exoticism. Pieces, such as operas, began to be characterized by their use
of exotic elements including: music, makeup, clothing and props. Ralph P. Locke in, Musical
Exoticism: Images and Reflections, expanded upon this notion stating that the purpose of musical
exoticism was to evoke a place that is perceived as different from one s home (Locke, p.47).
Elaborating from this definition a spectrum of musical exoticism was contrived; with pure
exoticism, intended to other the exotic elements, and transcultural composing, intended to provide a
hybrid of musical styles, representing the two extremes on opposing ends (Locke, p.44, 228) .
Benjamin Britten in his opera, Death in Venice, uses exotic elements Gamelanmusic in a
nontraditional sense that does not adhere stringently to the conditions of pure exoticism or
transcultural composing. Some pieces, such as Britten s Death in Venice, blur the lines of
distinction between each end of the musical exoticism spectrum and are open to subjective
interpretation by the listener. Thus, through analyzing the use of exotic elements and their
intended purpose in Britten s Death in Venice, it is my opinion that the piece falls more in
accordance with pure exoticism rather than transcultural composing, due to Britten s use of the
exotic elements to effectively other the homosexual attraction of opera s main character. Musical
exoticism is the use of non western elements in western music for the purpose of defining and
representing exotic elements or othering, that is to label a group or place as different from one s
own (Locke, p.45). Musical exoticism is a diverse genre, and pieces can adopt a variety of forms.
Therefore, musical exoticism is regarded as a spectrum rather than definitive categorization. On one
end of the spectrum is pure exoticism and on the other is transcultural composing. Pure exoticism is
used to represent an exotic subject through the use of othering that is to present a people, place or
group in contrast to the audience s home so that the audience perceives the exotic element as
different from themselves

The Pros and Cons of Social Networking
Introduction In this era the social networking plays vital role in everyone s life. Everything has
its pros and cons. The most common social networking site is facebook. Everyone has their own

System overload Due to non corporate usage the performance of network degraded. The drainage
of resources may become powerful. As social networking sites widen into shared and streamed
media. Malicious code Web 2.0 applications and social networks often sit directly on the desktop,
bypassing some of the corporate gateway controls for example, most social networks support file
transfer, quick messaging and email without importantly going through the corporate email

headlines. Information will leak naturally from organisations, but social networking can make it
very easy, and once the information enters the social network, it is almost hopeless to retrieve it.
Legal liabilities dealing with harassment, regulatory oversight, ensuring that privacy obligations are
being observed. External attack perhaps a more subtle form of attack, using social networking as a
way to extract information that can be used to commit fraud. Harassment by tacitly permitting social

Definition Essay On Sacrifice
When you go in search of honey, you must expect to be stung by bees. ― Joseph Joubert.
According the Merriam Webster Dictionary sacrifice is defined as destruction or surrender of
something for the sake of something else . The second definition is something given up or lost . Do
you really understand the definition of sacrifice? Have you ever felt like you ve sacrificed
something for a greater gain? Sacrifice can be a hard thing to do sometimes but the action that
belongs to the word has changed the course of history time after time. To better understand the
meaning of sacrifice and what it encompasses we must first look at its synonyms. The Merriam
Webster Dictionary list terms such as forfeit , yield , surrender . offer , and suffer . These terms
suggest that some sort of struggle might have ensued leaving another to sacrifice which they may
have not been ready to give. The implication is that if you re sacrificing your losing, or if you re
sacrificing your becoming submissive. It also suggests that people that sacrifice had no other
choice but to do so. While for some this maybe the case for all it is not.... Show more content on

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Common Core
Common Core State Standards have been a hot topic for a few years. While both sides of the
argument make valid points, often people lose sight of the greatest importance in the debate. The
students. The children s best interests need to be on the forefront of either side. Nearly all can
agree that in educationa national set of standards is necessary for this country. This is not the first
time in history that America s educational principles have been up for debate. The basic idea of
common core is to prepare students for responsibility as a citizen in this society. Students must be
able to read and distill complex sentences and must be equipped with basic mathematical skills. The

Digging deeper into concepts and increasing rigor will enable our children to be competitive in
today s world and the playing field comparing our educational system to other countries will be

courses and remediation classes have been necessary. Implementing common core could eliminate
those classes while teaching students how to think and problem solve before leaving high school.
An additional issue against common core is the financial burdens that could be put on schools and
districts as a result of implementation. From purchasing newly aligned textbooks and materials, to
updating technology in order to complete the standard assessment all online. With this assessment

Overall this analysis of my personality seems to be pretty accurate with a few traits from the

to figure out their personality types, but at the same time it aids in the discovery of which
career pathways people should take based on their specific personality traits. Based on the
personality trait INFP that was given to me from the Myer Briggs test I have quite a few career
pathways that fit my personality. Some of the career choices suited to my personality is a
writer, counselor, teacher/professor, psychologist, psychiatrist, musician, or a religious worker;
which seems like a pretty broad selection. Although there is a broad selection of careers that
would suit my personality none of which are the career path that I have chosen; which is to

French Nobility in the 17th and 18th Centuries Essay
Paper Assignment #1
The Nobility of France:
17th and 18th Century Impressions
The nobility of the Kingdom of France has been evaluated by various scholars of history. There is
something to be said, however, for those who chronicled their impressions while living them in the
17th and 18th centuries. The excerpts of Charles Loyseau s A Treatise on Orders, written in 1610,
and Isabelle de Charriere s The Nobleman, written in 1763 provide two very different glimpses on
the French nobility from differing time periods. From these two accounts, it is clear that there was
a marked shift in the way some viewed the nobility and their role in the operation of the French
state. While Loyseau praises the nobility nearly wholeheartedly, ... Show more content on

On the right of the nobility to hunt, the Baron resigns himself to not but rather to allow others of
ignoble birth to do so. Additionally, rather than leaving any substantial inheritance for his
family, he squanders his wealth on frivolous lawsuits and the repainting of old family portraits
(Mason and Rizzo 1999: 36). It is as if the only thing truly noble of the man is his name suggests
Charriere, though in not so many words. The Baron s son also seems far removed from a
gentleman in his actions. Charriere notes ...he drank heavily and gambled every evening with his
lackeys. His person was unpleasing, and keen eyes would have been needed to discern in him
those characteristics which, according to some, are the infallible signs of noble birth (Mason and
Rizzo 1999: 37). All these traits stand in contrast with the recently ennobled Valaincourt, who as
she notes ...more closely resembled his father than Baron d Aronville resembled his thirtieth
ancestor (Mason and Rizzo 1999: 38). This line of examination, however, raises the question of
how one actually defines noble merit or what merits one to be considered part of the nobility.
Loyseau visits history in order to gain context on the situation. He notes that at the formation of the
Kingdom, two distinct groups were present who translate to the nobility and commoner distinction.
These were the Franks and Gauls according to Loyseau and the

Six Sigma has not produced such large scale products for 3M.
Answering the Questions
1. Relative advantage of Six Sigma o Time efficient Cost effective eliminate the extra ideas and
create the right idea the first time o Customer loyalty o Reduction of incidents o Lower costs for
providing goods and services
Relative disadvantage Six Sigma o Creativity and innovation decreases due to the lack of
opportunity to come up with ideas. o Complicated process to learn and keep going o Risk of
failure / fear of the unknown
2. Using Six Sigma 3M s programmed decisions are well thought out and researched. On the other
hand, their non programmed decisions could be better because they lack the ingenuity and inputs
of employees that drive new ideas. So I have to believe that because of the rigidness of the
management style does not allow for the employees to create new products and bring forth the new
ideas.
3. While I am all for putting processes in place and improving effectiveness and eliminating

The Light Globe The Light Globe, since its early invention, has quickly become one of the basic
essentials of the modern technological world we know of today. The multiple sources that are
credited for the creation of this fundamental force have made a major breakthrough in the way we
as humans perceive our society and how it works. Nowadays, we must acknowledge the basic
element that is light, the agent that stimulates sight and allows visibility, and not take the invention
of the light globe for granted. In this essay, I will be outlining the contributing factors such as the

There are a various range of inventors that assisted in the creation of the Light Globe. Although,
many sources only worked with small aspects such as electric batteries, lamps and developed the

Siddhartha s Journey Of Enlightenment Essay
Vedant Patel Mr. Kadar / Mr. Herzenberg Period 4 November 9, 2015Siddhartha s journey to
enlightenment can be described by three terms that are described in Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.
Siddhartha goes through many challenges and suffers in his journey to reach Nirvana. He wants to
be enlightened one, one without fear to anything. He wants to keep continue his path to Nirvana.
He leaves everything behind and keeps going towards his goal. The terms are very significant in
Siddhartha s life because the word Om guides him to perfection and oneness, he goes through many
challenges to reach Nirvana, and the term Samsara makes him keep going in his life. The term Om
is seen throughout Siddhartha s journey in finding enlightenment. The word Om keeps him in the
touch with the universe. When Siddhartha gets into conflicts, Om saves him. When Siddhartha
listened attentively to this river, to this song of thousands voices; when he did not listen to the
sorrow or laughter, when he did not bind his soul to any one particular voice and absorb it in his
Self, but heard them all, the whole, the unity; then the great song of thousand voices consisted of
one word: Om Perfection (Hesse 136). The word Om helps him to realize that he is not desiring
anything, that he has reached the oneness. He is out of every conflicts and he is united with
everything. When he hears the word Om, he reaches Nirvana. At that moment, when the sound of
Om reached Siddhartha s ears, his slumbering soul

Declarative Memory Essay
How the Brain Learns As Sousa (2017) states, Learning is the process by which we acquire new
knowledge and skills; memory is the process by which we retain the knowledge and skills for the
future (p. 86, 87). A person has the ability to learn many things throughout his/her lifetime.
Research states that a person can store unlimited amounts of information in forms of memory.
Declarative and non declarative are two different types of memory that people use to learn and

Although, some of the categories can be challenged with research, most researchers would agree on
the breakdown of these categories. Procedural memory involves any type of memory that is
learned through motor and cognitive skills. These types of memory can include riding a bike,
driving a car, and knowing a procedure such as a morning ritual or habit. One can do these skills
without thinking too much about the activity. For example, when one first started driving, one
was focused on the brake and the gas as well as driving with both hands on the wheel. After a
person learns how to drive, one may forget that he/she was driving or gave no thought on what to
do at a stop light. This also applies to things such as reading, writing, and differentiating various
types of colors. Although there may be some thinking involved, the majority of the time one is
simply using procedural memory to complete these tasks. Perceptual representation system can be
a part of the procedural memory but has a slight difference. Perceptual representation can be
described as the ability to put together fragmented words and to tell whether a picture/thing can
exist in the real world (Sousa, 2017). As Sousa (2017) states, Classical conditioning (also called
Pavlovian conditioning) occurs when a

Earth s climate transitioned from a relatively warm, ice free world to one characterized by cooler
climates and a large, permanent Antarctic Ice Sheet (Science Letter, 2010). This time period
involved glacial advances and withdrawals called glaciations and deglaciations. The most current

I m really enjoying our assigned readings so far in class. My favorite so far has been An
Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Bierce. I was not expecting the ending to this short story at
all, it caught me off guard. I honestly did believe that Peyton Farquhar, the main character of the
story, managed to escaped his hanging by swimming away from the scene. What I did find sort
of hard to believe was how much Peyton was able to imagine right before his death. What I mean
by this is how he was able to imagine a whole escape plan that led him running all the way home
to his wife, all while he was in the process of getting hanged. The whole story was about five
pages long but it had a great amount of detail describing the events. I especially enjoyed this
particular reading because I was able to picture every single moment as I kept reading along. I like
stories where I know exactly what is going on and I m able to picture everything in my head and
just flow like a movie would. This was one of those stories, especially after watching a Twilight
Zone episode last class about this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, I wasn t expecting that ending at all. I really sympathize with Mathilde and her husband
because they really didn t deserve to work that hard for just a necklace. Especially the husband,
all he really wanted to do was buy a gun so that he can go hunting in the summer. I wouldn t
necessarily say that Mathilde deserves those hard working 10 years she lost to repay the lost
necklace mainly because it has always been in Mathilde s nature to want the best and dreams of
other luxuries. I do, however, blame her for the misfortune she brought upon her and her husband
when she lost the fake necklace. If she wasn t so demanding of things and would have settled with
simply the dress her husband bought for her in exchange of his gun dream, then for sure their lives
would probably have been a whole lot

Persuasive Essay On Tariffs
I think a lot of people are tired of watching other countries ripping off the United
States, comments Trump as he implements, a 25 percent tariff on foreign steel and a 10 percent
tariff on foreign aluminum when the product comes across our borders. Trump believes that other
countries have been taking advantage of the US through the current free trade agreements. We are
America the Great ; therefore, of course, we produce steel and aluminum in the cheapest and most
efficient way possible. We will save jobs by encouraging other sectors to purchase steel and
aluminum domestically. The tariffs will only hurt the other countries, not our own people. This
belief is a big joke. Yet, many people believe that getting rid of free tradeis actually ... Show more

What do the people who work in the factories want? They want to have their jobs protected, like
many working people do. Trump promised to help those workers. He promised to protect their
jobs. That is why he is proposing the tariffs. Yet, the tariffs are not actually beneficial for the
workers. By strongly encouraging Americans to use domestic steel and aluminum, the prices are
being raised on these products. All the products that have these two products as inputs are also
having increased prices. Why were factories buying these goods across the sea? China produces
steel and aluminum at a lower marginal cost, allowing them to sell the goods at a lower price and
still maximize profit. Therefore, China is the most efficient producer of these products. Instead of
trying to inhibit efficiency, Trump should be promoting efficiency. He could do so by encouraging
the steel and aluminum factories to discover new ways to produce their goods with a lower
marginal cost. Also, maybe American factories could specialize in another industry if China is the
lowest cost producer of steel and aluminum. But, these proposals are not being encouraged by
Trump and his

The Black Lives Matter Movement
The titles of both songs are different, as is their composition. The 2003 version of the song has the
title Where is the love, whereas the 2016 version is titled #WheresTheLove. The use of the hashtag
in the title symbolizes the digital mindset that people in 2016 currently live in. The internet had not
yet taken off in 2003 and there wasn t an obsession with social media at this point. In 2016
everything is focused around the concept of instant information. When something significant
happens in the U.S., the majority of people have that information in hand instantly through their
handheld technologies. The increased use of technology has sparked a surge of social movement.
This can be seen through multiple campaigns, one example would be the Black Lives Matter
movement. The Black Lives Matter movement first began following the death of Trayvon Martin
and the acquittal of the officer who shot him. This movement began with a simple hashtag. Now
in 2003 the hashtag was better known as a pound sign whereas in 2016 it is a classic trademark of
social media platforms. The hashtag allows one s beliefs to be categorized into a short statement.
Supporters of the statement will then begin using the hashtag, thus causing a snowball effect. As
the hashtag #blacklivesmatter began to swarm platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram,
awareness grew of the movement. Social media has allowed its members to share documentary
evidence of police abuse, spread activist messages, and

Reasons for Adolescent Suicide Attempts
The present text reports situations when an adolescent is at risk of suicide. Some of these

The case of Tyler Clementi is a clear example of bullying.
Feldman (2012) has noted that male adolescents are five times more likely to commit suicide than
females, although females attempt suicide more often than males (P.365). Males use more lethal
methods than females. Adolescent males use firearms, hanging, or jumping from height as method
of suicide while females tend to commit suicide by overdosing on drugs and cutting themselves.
Parents who own guns at home must unload, lock, and keep this item out of adolescent reach as a
preventive action. Parents must also control all prescription drugs in the house because it is easy
access for teenagers to harm themselves.
Occasionally, some people try to kill themselves just by putting their lives in danger, and they use
self destructive behavior. Some behavior are drugs and alcohol abuse, overeating, self starvation,
bulimia, smoking, reckless driving, stunts and dares, promiscuity and sexual risk taking, and those
actions can lead to injury or loss of life.
Suicidal Thoughts
Adolescents who are thinking about suicide often feel lonely, different. Here are some thoughts and
feelings that a suicidal adolescent may have:
I don t deserve to live.
I d rather feel pain than feel nothing.
I hate everything I just want to destroy everything.
I just want the pain to stop.
My parents want me to be dead.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Malala Yousafzai Nobel Peace Prize...
Malala Yousafzai Nobel Peace Prize Speech Analysis I am those 66 million girls who are
deprived of education. And today I am not raising my voice, it is the voice of those 66 million
girls. Malala Yousafzai makes this statement in her speech to the Nobel Committee as the first
Pakistani and, at the age of sixteen, the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace PrizeAward.
Malala was unfortunately shot in the head by a member of the Taliban, due to the fact that she
defied a culture that did not allow girls to have an education. Despite her brush with death, she not
only recovered, but became a champion for the rights of children and girls around the world to

Her use of pathos allows her to connect with the audience on an emotional level and helps drive
home her argument.
Additionally, her use of ethos allows her to present herself to t audience as a reliable figure by
saying, some people call me the girl who was shot by the Taliban... some people call me a nobel
Laureate now. She convinces the audience of her credibility by reminding them of her personal
experience and that she stands as a credible source. Malala says that the award is not only for
her, but the Nobel Peace Prize money [will be dedicated] to the Malala Fund , the official
organization led by Malala Yousafzai. She builds on personal examples from her life to support the
issue, which shows that she has first hand experience with the problem and that she is dedicated to
finding a solution.
Together with strong appeals to pathos and ethos, she establishes the significance of this subject,
persuading the audience to listen to her call to action. She says Dear sisters and brothers, dear
fellow children, we must work...not wait. Not just the politicians and the world leaders, we all need
to contribute. Me. You. We. It is our duty (Malala). She reinforces her ideas and provides the
strength and seriousness that the topic deserves, while motivating the audience to unite and face
this issue. Furthermore, she says that

Charles Dickens Oliver Twist, And The Parish Boy s...
Many critics today consider Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, or, The Parish Boy s Progress,
as being a commentary of both society s treatment and view of the lower class in the 19th
century. In the early 1800 s a Poor Law was put in place, saying that each parish was required to
care for their poor within the area. Many viewed this as the lower class being lazy and lacking
ambition. Dickens uses irony to comment on the society s belief that the lower class were fated
to remain in that manner. The use of irony occurs throughout the novel, becoming present in the
beginning of the story when Oliver s mother is in labour. Upon his birth Oliver is described as
being unequally poised amid this world and the next (1). In this passage Dickens juxtaposes Oliver
between living the life he has just been born into, and death, assuming to be reincarnated and born
into the next , presumably better, life. He then furthers this contrast by comparing the situation
Oliver found himself in, being birthed by a woman who was rendered rather misty and a parish
surgeon who he notes worked by contract (1). The alliteration used in the former brings emphasis to
the company Oliver is in during such a crucial time, with a woman who is drunk and a surgeon who
is there as he has no other choice. The author again juxtaposes Oliver s lonesome and melancholic
situation to the ideal situation of childbirth, with careful grandmothers, anxious aunts, experienced
nurses, and doctors of profound

Human Sacrifice In Aztec Culture
Human sacrifice is considered immoral in today s value. However, this is not the case in ancient
civilizations. The Aztec civilization that grew out of Mesoamerica region in the 14th century was
proven to be practicing human sacrifice. The deep rooted belief that people are indebted to Gods
makes sacrifice a big part of Aztecculture. According to the Aztec creation myth, Gods sacrifice
themselves for the creation of the Earth. Therefore, human sacrificeturns out to be the way Aztecan
repays their Gods. The most common procedure of human sacrifice consists of four main steps:
selection of victims, preparation, torture, and body dismemberment. The most fundamental part of
the human sacrifice process is to find victims to be presented as offerings. Usually, victims were
chosen from captives during warfare.
In fact, there were wars fought solely for the purpose of finding human source for sacrifice. It
was believed that the higher ranked, the most handsome, and the bravest on the battlefield are the
most desirable for the Gods. Candidates for sacrifice were also be selected through the defeated
team during ball games and the slaves. Children could also be sacrificed, as it was believed that

victims, giving the victims defenseless weapons and place them into combats with well armed
opponents, or tied them on a stake to be shot at with arrows. The purpose of the torture process
stems from the belief that the way people die determined the way they live in afterlife. Aztecans

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is comprised of a vast number of cultures that contain even

the four subculture houses, is made up of a diverse group of wizards who still seem to share the

Gryffindor House all have a similar sense of morality, bravery, courage, and determination, in which
they pride themselves on, and is a deciding factor in their appointment into this house. The students
that represent Gryffindor have high moral standards and a natural instinct to always do the right

also helps workers gain energy to start an objective by staying motivated. An you may either

will help improve the workplace because, it will gain more money towards your paycheck and

In the text it states that workers must be focused to be effective. but yet again it says workers must

workers gain enough energy and motivation to start and finish an objective. I have witnessed it
with my own eyes by seeing people usually waking up on the wrong side of the bed and just dont
feel the need to work, and thats many men I have work with when in construction. But when
there is a length in the time you work from, many men and woman will have the sense of
encouragment to do what needs to be done, instead people usually working an eight hour shift
would not even have any type of grit in themselves. for example in the text it says, Most people
do their best thinking in late mornings and afternoon. This is partly due to biologic cycles of
energy and motivation. In conclusion, I believe that a six hour workday would be more effective
for workers and employees, but most importantly the company itself. Heres why, it will help
improve the workplace, help workers become more focused in their work, and also help the

Differences Between Mixed Martial Arts And Boxing
The fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather sparked numerous discussions about
the differences and similarities between mixed martial arts and boxing. The similarities between the
two sports are surprisingly few, but some of the similarities include that both of the sports matches
are fought in rounds, winning can occur through knockout or points, and both sports use referees to
stop fights. These basic rules form the foundations for both sports, but that is where the major
similarities end. The differences between the sports makes the Ultimate Fighting Championship a
more violent sport than boxing. The violent differences between mixed martial artsand boxing are
the techniques and fighting styles that are allowed in the ring, the gloves, and the training leading
up to fights. The first difference between mixed martial artsand boxing is the techniques and
fighting styles that are allowed during the fights, and how the rules for each sport are designed
around the use of these fighting styles. The UFC mixes completely different forms of martial arts
into one sport; for example, fighters in the UFC are allowed to use boxing, wrestling, jiu jitsu, and
several more fighting techniques in the ring. The allotment of these fighting styles allows the
fighters to take their opponent to the ground, strike while on the ground, kick, grapple, and use
submissions. The rules for the UFC allows the fighters to use almost every type of strike, but some
strikes like hitting in

Foreshadowing Examples In John Steinbeck
A Composition of Arduous Imageries
The most arduous task in composing a song is neither the melody nor lyrics, but rather the buildup
that foreshadows both. For example, the song Blue Da Ba Dee by Eiffel 65 uses electronic
percussion that slowly increases in volume to foreshadow either the piano melody or the vocals. In
literature, foreshadowing is just as crucial in music as it is in literacy. An example is The Pearl by
John Steinbeck. Steinbeck uses the three imagery categories of music, dark, and light to
foreshadow events within the pages of The Pearl.
To summarize the novella, Mexico is the setting of the Pearl. A physically strong, but mentally
limited, man named Kino resides there with his wife, Juana, and his son Coyotito. They assume ...

During one morning in Steinbeck s novella, Kino and Juana hop in their canoe to look for pearls.
Once Kino thinks he has found one, light imagery shines through Kino s mind, when he believes
that, In this Gulf of uncertain light there were more illusions than realities (19). When
superstition and tension surface quickly like this, it means that the author is attempting to
foreshadow something. Soon after the mention of the illusion, Kino s family finds the pearl.
Another example of foreshadowing using light imagery is how Steinbeck pictures Juana after
she realizes that the pearl is evil, And in the firelight her lips and her eyes were alive with her
fear (38). At the time, the pearl has just been nearly stolen once, but Juana already becomes
critical about the pearl s presence. Kino s steadfast refusal to return to his old, peaceful life
foreshadows an unfortunate change in Kino s personality through light imagery. Similarly, the
same light returns when the pearl is stolen again, when Steinbeck writes, And as she spoke the
light came back in Kino s eyes so that they glowed fiercely and his muscles hardened and his will
hardened (56). So, Steinbeck s light imagery foreshadows

Cultural Dislocation and the Sense of Loss: A Study of Ashima s Predicament in The Namesake
Abstract
Due to increasing urbanization, dislocation and migration, a person s identity is caught up in many
contradictions. While trying to locate oneself in between their root and their new existence, the
sense of belonging to a particular place often gets blurred. Modern and postmodern fiction bears a
true reflection of this universal human condition in the present world. With the diasporic writers
these issues find the most powerful, striking and convincing expression. Narrating the story of a
Hindu middle class Bengali couple that settles in the US, Jhumpa Lahiri s The Namesake depicts the

She chronicles dislocation and its resulting sense of loss in a strikingly powerful manner. She
blends the two cultures and creates inner turmoil for many of her characters who struggle to
balance the Western and Indian influence. To sum up, one must acknowledge that the story
beautifully portrays the postmodern predicament in the multicultural juncture. Ashima s sense of
loss and trauma, the vacuum in her heart, speaks of the universal fate of an immigrant life. Though
not easily acceptable, this painful experience is an inextricable part in expatriate life.

Business Intelligence Plan Essay
Business Intelligence Plan
Executive Summary
The purpose of this report is to explain the importance of Business Intelligence and all of its
components for implementation into the business structure. During the recent years obtaining
useful information in real time has become something that is extremely important, if not even a
critical, factor of success for companies. The time managers have available for use in making
business decisions has been reduced dramatically. Competitive pressures are now requiring that
businesses make intelligent decisions based on their incoming business data, and these decisions
must be made immediately (Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing, 2005, p.5; Hocevar ...

This is an essential component of BI for arriving at valid business decisions. Similar data can be
stored in multiple repositories within a single business; one example would be the inventory of
items for sale. When considering data sources, it is important to understand if there is a
recognized authoritative source for a specific type of data. In many enterprises, the data required
for making business decisions is created by wide ranging applications, perhaps from separate lines
of business (Theme 1).
BI systems today have the capacity to work with numerous types of data such as numerical or non
numerical data. The quality of this data is as important as any other data. The difference in the
level of data quality is one of the many factors that may explain why some organizations are
successful with their BI initiative while some are not so successful (Isik, O., Jones, M.C.,
Sidoroya, A. 2011).
Component three is Data Analytics. This component is used for the analysis of data. Data analytics
refers to the business intelligence technologies that are grounded for the most part in data mining
and statistical analysis. Due to the success that has been achieved overall by the data mining and
statistical analysis community, data analytics continues to be an active area of research (Hsinchun,
Chiang, Storey, 2012).
Data analytics are structured in statistical theories and models, multivariate statistical analysis. It

Unnatural Relationships Prompted by Power
A struggle for supremacy between parent and offspring is a reoccurring theme throughout
William Shakespeare s tragedy King Lear. The play unfolds as King Lear is deciding how to
divide his realm amongst his three daughters. Lear s two eldest daughters, Goneril and Regan,
flatter their father with elaborate speeches of love hoping to inherit the largest piece of land.
Unknown to Lear, his daughter s so called unconditional love for him is nothing more than an
attempt to possess dominance over the kingdom. Consequently, an unnatural relationship
between father and daughters is created due to the pursuit of power. The first sign that Lear s
daughters desire control is observable in Regan s dialogue in act one scene one. After Goneril
appeals her love for Lear Regan replies, I am made of that self mettle as my sister / And prize me
at her worth. In my true heart / I find she names my very deed of love; / Only she comes too
short (lines 76 79 page 11). Here Regan claims that her and Goneril are the same, yet Goneril s
love is not as worthy as Regan s. Both daughters are competing against each other in order to
obtain the most amount of land. As a result, an abnormal relationship is formed because the
daughter s drive to love their father should not be based on material possessions. Goneril s and
Regan s motivation is the control they will receive in deceiving their father with false love.
Additionally, the concept of unnaturalness between daughters and father due to being

Essay On Health Care Fraud
Health care fraud comes from many aspects. Fraud comes from some type of abuse to the
system. Such abuse can come from billers, providers and or patients. Abuse of the system can
turn into fraud. Because the fraud can come from many angles, it makes it really difficult for
regulatory agencies to detect and protect against abuse and fraud. However, many changes to the
system and the collaboration of regulations by many agencies have made a difference. Health
care fraud is a crime that over time has had a significant impact on public and private health care
payment system (Kongstvedt, 2013). Making a difference for this topic can have a significant
impact on health care in general. Health care fraud takes a lot of means from the system,
therefore affecting its goals. Not only does it distract the system from its objective, it also affects
the financial status of the government. It takes a lot of effort to control fraud, economic effort that
can otherwise be use in other struggles. Because this industry is one that grows with popularity, it
is very difficult for only one organization to control or manage abuse or fraud. Popularity in this
field brings great financial gains by those who choose to cheat or abuse the system. Above all, one
must continue to make efforts to fight back and to control the losses caused by fraud. In order to
continue these efforts, one must first understand how much is lost by these criminal acts.
Therefore, this paper will focus on one

School Lunch Essay
Skipping Dessert
When I was younger, I vividly remember the vast amount of delicious food that was offered every
day in my school lunchroom. The food that I use to describe as good food, I am beginning to
undoubtedly recognise for the unhealthy junk that it actually is. There are countless others who
also notice how horrible these foods are to feed children in school cafeterias. Today, those same
cafeterias are tremendously different from the ones I remember from when I was little, and they are
always continuously changing. The amount of options we are offered have not lessened, they have
simply changed. Instead of having the option to purchase nachos, we now are given the option of
baked fries. Also, instead of having a dessert of an innutritious brownie, we now are given a large
variety of sweet fruits to choose from instead. While some students distinguish these changes as a
catastrophe, I can understand the importance of having students skip dessert during a school lunch.
Allowing the NSLP to regulate what is served in school lunches would help parents trust that their
children would be getting healthier foods at school, help to combat the epidemic of obesity and
malnutrition in the United States, and assist in educating children on healthy diet choices.
In the article School Lunches , the author discusses whether or not the government s National
School Lunch Program (NSLP) should be allowed to regulate what is served in school lunches.
The NSLP is a government

Comparison Of Love And Honor In Dennis Prager s Ten...
Children all around the world struggle with honoring and loving their parents and additionally
other people. Most children yearn to love, honor, and grow a relationship with their mother and
father, but one or both of their parents may be absent from their lives. The words love and honor is
inscribed throughout the bible and is displayed in the fifth of Ten Commandments. Loveand honor
are two different words that have entirely two different meanings. When God asks for parents to
be loved by the children, His desires is for the child to show unconditional love. Whereas, honor is
a way of showing respect and not showing shame. One cannot love a person and mistreat them
because it is dishonoring. Thus, both love and honor forms the behavior... Show more content on

People who grow up fatherless have a hard time grasping the concept of life and ultimately God.
Usually children grow and have low self worth and feels as if they are undeserving. In Prager s
article he points out how God commands people to do many things, but love is not one of them.
However, by God people are demanded to show love and honor others. To a woman, a father
teaches her how to be respected and feel like a queen. However without the proper nurturing
from the father the girl partakes in the wrong men and to be promiscuous at an early age
(Prager). If a girl was taught how to value herself by her father, then she would not involve
herself in in ungodly things and she would have learned to honor herself. Having no guidance or
a father figure to set an example causes a girl or woman not to distinguish right from wrong and
she set her own standards. Thus, a female cannot engage herself in attributes that are positive and
honoring towards herself and others. However, not all fatherless woman partake in the wrong
doings that Prager mentions in his article. While it is hard for people who grow up missing a parent,
there are still ways for them to learn to love, honor, and comfort others. Thus, it is import for other
adults in children s lives to edify them on honoring and loving others and

5). As Brahms composed more works, Clara was always the first to publicly perform the pieces.
Around his fame period of 1878 1888, Brahms composed a set of three violin sonatas for Joachim
as gratitude for touring with Brahms across Germany and later dedicated the first performance of
the Violin Sonata No. 3 to Hans von BГјlow, a later great friend of Brahms.
However, this particular violin sonata is different than the other two; the emotions of this piece are
more agitated and compromised with Brahms s undying emotions for Clara. It is true, that the
close relationship of Clara and Brahms truly did impact the feelings behind Brahm s Violin
Sonatas. The feelings Brahms expresses, are his emotions and questions for Clara in this sonata;

We Real Cool: Poetry Explication
We Real Cool is a poem written by Gwendolyn Brooks in 1959, and published in her book The
Bean Eaters (We Real Cool, pg 1). A simple and light poem, We Real Cool is vague enough to
allow readers to visualize their own characters and setting, but specific enough to keep a consistent
rebellious image. Brook s attitude toward the characters is undecided, as the tone is neither tragic
nor victorious, but more so just balanced and neutral.
We Real Cool is written from the perspective of the involved fictional characters. It is as if the
reader is in the presence of these characters as they introduce themselves. They speak with
confidence and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second half of this stanza is, We left school. This is an obvious statement of action, but leaves
the reader questioning whether they left a not yet dismissed school day or a school day that had
come to an end. As a third option, the reader might also assume they left school for good.
The couplets continue in the next stanza with, We lurk late. With this line we can assume the verb
lurk is meant to represent a much less gracious movement, an almost monstrous, but comical way
of walking. In the poem s consistent three word lines, the word late is included to end the
sentence. This gives the reader an idea of when the poem can possibly take place within the time
of day. Although it may not be a literal statement regarding the time of day, as it can also translate
to a rebellious activity the characters wish to point out. The second sentence within this stanza is,
We strike straight. This line can also have multiple meanings depending on the usage and
perspective of the words strike and straight. Two possible literal translations can be deal with
fighting, as strike means hit or punch, while another meaning of strike is how one lights a cigarette.
The fourth stanza begins with, We sing sin, a line that can also have multiple meanings. If taken
from a paradox angle, the gentleness and innocence of singing contradicts with the literal meaning
of sin. This method of verbal irony is what keeps the tone consistently light throughout

Hybrid Cars And Hybrid Electric Vehicles
In the present generation where automobiles are very important in daily life, there is two types of
cars i.e. Gasoline vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles, hybrid electric cars which used quite a
while but not as much as their gasoline counterparts. The difference between these two cars is
mainly the Engine, tank, and the source on which the cars work. The hybrid electric vehicleis more a
computerized and electric version where it switch between running on gasoline and electricity.
Other than that major changes, these cars are fundamentally the same. The body and the
maneuvering design of these are fundamentally the same. Hybrid cars were few to come by when
they were initially introduced, but current climate change and pollution issues have encouraged
people to opt for the cleaner and greener version of the automobile. Although both kinds of
automobiles are being used, there are a lot of aspects where these automobiles can be differentiated.
A few comparisons between these two vehicles is stated below.
1.HISTORY:
a.Hybrid: This type of engine vehicles were invented in the 19th century but it came into market in
early 2000 and gained popularity in the 2005 from then on many started to use this type of vehicles.

The economy grew rapidly in the 1920s. The automobile had great impact. Through model changes
and advertising, sales were stimulated. New consumer goods such as steel, gasoline, and road
construction increased the growth of other businesses. Of all steel output in the 1920s, one seventh
was used toward the manufacturing of automobiles. A nationwide search for oil deposits brought
workers and money to the Southwest. A numbered highway system supported the rapid appearance
of service stations, diners, and motels. As the economy grew, so did technology. The radio brought

  • 2. Essay about Salome and Cupid The paintings Salome with the Head of St. John the Baptist, by Guido Reni and Cupid Chastised, by Bartolomeo Manfredi are both 17th century visual representations of a story. The story behind Salome is the interesting biblical story of the beheading of St. John the Baptist, as it s title suggests. The story goes that Salome performed a dance for the king and his guests. Herod Antipas saw Salome s dance and was so impressed, and drunk, that he promised to give her whatever she asked of him. After consulting her mother, Salome asks Herod for the head of John the Baptist. Herod delivered on his promise, and had the head of John the Baptist delivered to her on a platter, as she asked. Reni s paintingdepicts a contented Salome being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cool green and grays that surrounds Salome can symbolize her cool, calm, staid disposition, and almost blasГ© attitude in light of what is before her, the head of a dead man. The two women in the back left of the plane are wearing more vibrant colors but are muted by a shadow. Salome is the focal point of the piece, therefore receiving more light and wearing brighter colors than the other figures in the painting. She and the head of John the Baptist are the only figures that are not crossed by a pronounced shadow, both are illuminated by the light that extends from the right of the composition. This value construction puts emphasis on the two main characters, the figures that hold the most narrative weight. Goldish yellow, pink and white are the colors of Salome s dress. The yellow in Salome s dress can be taken as a reflection of her confident and satisfied posture and facial expression. Pink can symbolize femininity or sexuality, a major factor behind the events of the story. For it was Salome s display of these qualities, in her dance, that moved Herod so much as to grant her any request. These vibrant colors also provide contrast to the cool background, with pink (a tint or red) serving as a contrast to green, further emphasizing the protagonist woman and relating to the viewer her significance in the story behind the depiction. Similarly, in Cupid Chastised vibrant foreground colors contrast a neutral background. Mars fiery red garment stands ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. 3d Printing History Its One thing to 3D print something as advanced and cutting edge as a Jet engine motor, but it is another to fuel it up, take it to the runway and push the start button. This is the stride GE aviation achieved when it fired up the motor of a simple Jet engine, made completely of in house designed and 3D printed parts, at a test stand normally reserved for commercial jet engines. GE Aviation is a world leading provider of jet and turboprop engines, components and integrated systems for commercial, military, business and general aviation aircraft propulsion applications. GE Aviation has a global service network to support these offerings. 3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital design. The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an additive process the desired object is created by laying down successive layers of material (usually molten alloy or plastics) until the entire object is formed. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal cross section of the eventual object.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With 19 fuel nozzles per engine, it s a substantial difference that helps to streamline the manufacturing and assembly process. It also cuts down on design ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Effects Of Conventional Energy Sources And Increasing... Depleting nature of the conventional energy sources and increasing cost of electrical energy are forcing mankind to look for possible modifications in the existing systems towards lower energy consumption without sacrificing the purpose for which it is used. The household refrigerator used extensively all over the world for preserving various food products is one such system which accounts for the substantial part of the house electricity bills. Refrigeratoris a machine which lifts up the heatfrom low evaporator temperature (pressure) and pumps it against the high condenser temperatures (pressure). Following were the objectives decided for achieving this aim: 1.To study the literature on domestic refrigerator with higher evaporator temperature in the temperature range of 265K 270K. 2.To study existing domestic refrigerator including lower temperatures. 3.To design and fabricate a suitable capillary tube to be used with the modified refrigerator to provide required evaporator temperature. 4.Redesigning the shape of the evaporator used in the refrigerator. 5.To evaluate the performance of the system using recommended test procedures in the literature. 6.To evaluate economic viability of the system for modifying the existing systems. • 6. Musical Exoticism In Britten s Death In Venice Music 15: Paper #2 In the late nineteenth century, France forged a new path in music and ushered in the practice of musical exoticism. Pieces, such as operas, began to be characterized by their use of exotic elements including: music, makeup, clothing and props. Ralph P. Locke in, Musical Exoticism: Images and Reflections, expanded upon this notion stating that the purpose of musical exoticism was to evoke a place that is perceived as different from one s home (Locke, p.47). Elaborating from this definition a spectrum of musical exoticism was contrived; with pure exoticism, intended to other the exotic elements, and transcultural composing, intended to provide a hybrid of musical styles, representing the two extremes on opposing ends (Locke, p.44, 228) . Benjamin Britten in his opera, Death in Venice, uses exotic elements Gamelanmusic in a nontraditional sense that does not adhere stringently to the conditions of pure exoticism or transcultural composing. Some pieces, such as Britten s Death in Venice, blur the lines of distinction between each end of the musical exoticism spectrum and are open to subjective interpretation by the listener. Thus, through analyzing the use of exotic elements and their intended purpose in Britten s Death in Venice, it is my opinion that the piece falls more in accordance with pure exoticism rather than transcultural composing, due to Britten s use of the exotic elements to effectively other the homosexual attraction of opera s main character. Musical exoticism is the use of non western elements in western music for the purpose of defining and representing exotic elements or othering, that is to label a group or place as different from one s own (Locke, p.45). Musical exoticism is a diverse genre, and pieces can adopt a variety of forms. Therefore, musical exoticism is regarded as a spectrum rather than definitive categorization. On one end of the spectrum is pure exoticism and on the other is transcultural composing. Pure exoticism is used to represent an exotic subject through the use of othering that is to present a people, place or group in contrast to the audience s home so that the audience perceives the exotic element as different from themselves ... Information will leak naturally from organisations, but social networking can make it very easy, and once the information enters the social network, it is almost hopeless to retrieve it. Do you really understand the definition of sacrifice? Have you ever felt like you ve sacrificed something for a greater gain? Sacrifice can be a hard thing to do sometimes but the action that belongs to the word has changed the course of history time after time. French Nobility in the 17th and 18th Centuries Essay Paper Assignment #1 The Nobility of France: 17th and 18th Century Impressions The nobility of the Kingdom of France has been evaluated by various scholars of history. There is something to be said, however, for those who chronicled their impressions while living them in the 17th and 18th centuries. The excerpts of Charles Loyseau s A Treatise on Orders, written in 1610, and Isabelle de Charriere s The Nobleman, written in 1763 provide two very different glimpses on the French nobility from differing time periods. From these two accounts, it is clear that there was a marked shift in the way some viewed the nobility and their role in the operation of the French state. On the right of the nobility to hunt, the Baron resigns himself to not but rather to allow others of ignoble birth to do so. Additionally, rather than leaving any substantial inheritance for his family, he squanders his wealth on frivolous lawsuits and the repainting of old family portraits (Mason and Rizzo 1999: 36). It is as if the only thing truly noble of the man is his name suggests Charriere, though in not so many words. The Baron s son also seems far removed from a gentleman in his actions. Charriere notes ...he drank heavily and gambled every evening with his lackeys. His person was unpleasing, and keen eyes would have been needed to discern in him those characteristics which, according to some, are the infallible signs of noble birth (Mason and Rizzo 1999: 37). All these traits stand in contrast with the recently ennobled Valaincourt, who as she notes ...more closely resembled his father than Baron d Aronville resembled his thirtieth ancestor (Mason and Rizzo 1999: 38). This line of examination, however, raises the question of how one actually defines noble merit or what merits one to be considered part of the nobility. He notes that at the formation of the Kingdom, two distinct groups were present who translate to the nobility and commoner distinction. The multiple sources that are credited for the creation of this fundamental force have made a major breakthrough in the way we as humans perceive our society and how it works. Nowadays, we must acknowledge the basic element that is light, the agent that stimulates sight and allows visibility, and not take the invention of the light globe for granted. In this essay, I will be outlining the contributing factors such as the Inventors, When, Where and How the Light Globe was created, What problems this invention solved and the Impacts on the Economy, the people living throughout the Industrial Revolution, the Impacts on the existing industries and the long term effects of the invention of the Light Globe. There are a various range of inventors that assisted in the creation of the Light Globe. Although, many sources only worked with small aspects such as electric batteries, lamps and developed the bulbs. The first contributing inventor was Alessandro Volta, an Italian scientist, who invented the electric battery which was capable of generating flowing electricity through a circuit. The next was Humphry Davy who created the first Electric Light Globe, also known as the Arc Light, in 1809. • 17. Siddhartha s Journey Of Enlightenment Essay Vedant Patel Mr. Kadar / Mr. Herzenberg Period 4 November 9, 2015Siddhartha s journey to enlightenment can be described by three terms that are described in Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. Siddhartha goes through many challenges and suffers in his journey to reach Nirvana. He wants to be enlightened one, one without fear to anything. He wants to keep continue his path to Nirvana. He leaves everything behind and keeps going towards his goal. The terms are very significant in Siddhartha s life because the word Om guides him to perfection and oneness, he goes through many challenges to reach Nirvana, and the term Samsara makes him keep going in his life. The term Om is seen throughout Siddhartha s journey in finding enlightenment. The word Om keeps him in the touch with the universe. When Siddhartha gets into conflicts, Om saves him. When Siddhartha listened attentively to this river, to this song of thousands voices; when he did not listen to the sorrow or laughter, when he did not bind his soul to any one particular voice and absorb it in his Self, but heard them all, the whole, the unity; then the great song of thousand voices consisted of one word: Om Perfection (Hesse 136). The word Om helps him to realize that he is not desiring anything, that he has reached the oneness. He is out of every conflicts and he is united with everything. When he hears the word Om, he reaches Nirvana. At that moment, when the sound of Om reached Siddhartha s ears, his slumbering soul ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Declarative Memory Essay How the Brain Learns As Sousa (2017) states, Learning is the process by which we acquire new knowledge and skills; memory is the process by which we retain the knowledge and skills for the future (p. 86, 87). A person has the ability to learn many things throughout his/her lifetime. Research states that a person can store unlimited amounts of information in forms of memory. Declarative and non declarative are two different types of memory that people use to learn and grasp new concepts. Although, some of the categories can be challenged with research, most researchers would agree on the breakdown of these categories. Procedural memory involves any type of memory that is learned through motor and cognitive skills. These types of memory can include riding a bike, driving a car, and knowing a procedure such as a morning ritual or habit. One can do these skills without thinking too much about the activity. For example, when one first started driving, one was focused on the brake and the gas as well as driving with both hands on the wheel. After a person learns how to drive, one may forget that he/she was driving or gave no thought on what to do at a stop light. This also applies to things such as reading, writing, and differentiating various types of colors. Although there may be some thinking involved, the majority of the time one is simply using procedural memory to complete these tasks. Perceptual representation system can be a part of the procedural memory but has a slight difference. Perceptual representation can be described as the ability to put together fragmented words and to tell whether a picture/thing can exist in the real world (Sousa, 2017). Approximately 34 m.y. ago, Earth s climate transitioned from a relatively warm, ice free world to one characterized by cooler climates and a large, permanent Antarctic Ice Sheet (Science Letter, 2010). I was not expecting the ending to this short story at all, it caught me off guard. I honestly did believe that Peyton Farquhar, the main character of the story, managed to escaped his hanging by swimming away from the scene. What I did find sort of hard to believe was how much Peyton was able to imagine right before his death. What I mean by this is how he was able to imagine a whole escape plan that led him running all the way home to his wife, all while he was in the process of getting hanged. The whole story was about five pages long but it had a great amount of detail describing the events. I especially enjoyed this particular reading because I was able to picture every single moment as I kept reading along. We are America the Great ; therefore, of course, we produce steel and aluminum in the cheapest and most efficient way possible. All the products that have these two products as inputs are also having increased prices. Why were factories buying these goods across the sea? China produces steel and aluminum at a lower marginal cost, allowing them to sell the goods at a lower price and still maximize profit. Therefore, China is the most efficient producer of these products. Instead of trying to inhibit efficiency, Trump should be promoting efficiency. • 25. Charles Dickens Oliver Twist, And The Parish Boy s... Many critics today consider Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, or, The Parish Boy s Progress, as being a commentary of both society s treatment and view of the lower class in the 19th century. In the early 1800 s a Poor Law was put in place, saying that each parish was required to care for their poor within the area. Many viewed this as the lower class being lazy and lacking ambition. Dickens uses irony to comment on the society s belief that the lower class were fated to remain in that manner. The use of irony occurs throughout the novel, becoming present in the beginning of the story when Oliver s mother is in labour. Upon his birth Oliver is described as being unequally poised amid this world and the next (1). In this passage Dickens juxtaposes Oliver between living the life he has just been born into, and death, assuming to be reincarnated and born into the next , presumably better, life. He then furthers this contrast by comparing the situation Oliver found himself in, being birthed by a woman who was rendered rather misty and a parish surgeon who he notes worked by contract (1). The alliteration used in the former brings emphasis to the company Oliver is in during such a crucial time, with a woman who is drunk and a surgeon who is there as he has no other choice. The author again juxtaposes Oliver s lonesome and melancholic situation to the ideal situation of childbirth, with careful grandmothers, anxious aunts, experienced nurses, and doctors of profound ... I should tell you right now how I got to where I am: single mother on the door, public housing, all that. It wasn t a goal of mine, certainly. Pg15 As Lucy tells the story of her having a child she talks about how embarrassing and painful it is to be in her situation. She speaks of how she never dreamed for this and that she had other plans but in the end she has failed herself. Later in the story Lucy has to go to a dole appointment. While she is there she talks about how the workers there recognize that she is of lower class and it disgusts the worker at the desk. With the puke now on his pants and one boot missing he looked horrible, and I think seeing him depressed the dole staff. Anyway, they got me in and out of there pretty quickly. Pg 50 At the end of this quote she says that they got her in and out really quick, thinking that the staff wanted her out as fast as they could so they didn t have to deal with her because they didn t want her there because her lower class, grossed them out making her feel like a stain on society. Seeing this Lucy takes into account that just because she s a single mom people start thinking of her differently adding onto her insecurities. • 35. Foreshadowing Examples In John Steinbeck A Composition of Arduous Imageries The most arduous task in composing a song is neither the melody nor lyrics, but rather the buildup that foreshadows both. For example, the song Blue Da Ba Dee by Eiffel 65 uses electronic percussion that slowly increases in volume to foreshadow either the piano melody or the vocals. In literature, foreshadowing is just as crucial in music as it is in literacy. An example is The Pearl by John Steinbeck. Steinbeck uses the three imagery categories of music, dark, and light to foreshadow events within the pages of The Pearl. To summarize the novella, Mexico is the setting of the Pearl. A physically strong, but mentally limited, man named Kino resides there with his wife, Juana, and his son Coyotito. They assume ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During one morning in Steinbeck s novella, Kino and Juana hop in their canoe to look for pearls. Once Kino thinks he has found one, light imagery shines through Kino s mind, when he believes that, In this Gulf of uncertain light there were more illusions than realities (19). When superstition and tension surface quickly like this, it means that the author is attempting to foreshadow something. Soon after the mention of the illusion, Kino s family finds the pearl. Another example of foreshadowing using light imagery is how Steinbeck pictures Juana after she realizes that the pearl is evil, And in the firelight her lips and her eyes were alive with her fear (38). At the time, the pearl has just been nearly stolen once, but Juana already becomes critical about the pearl s presence. Kino s steadfast refusal to return to his old, peaceful life foreshadows an unfortunate change in Kino s personality through light imagery. Similarly, the same light returns when the pearl is stolen again, when Steinbeck writes, And as she spoke the light came back in Kino s eyes so that they glowed fiercely and his muscles hardened and his will hardened (56). So, Steinbeck s light imagery foreshadows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Modern and postmodern fiction bears a true reflection of this universal human condition in the present world. Similar data can be stored in multiple repositories within a single business; one example would be the inventory of items for sale. When considering data sources, it is important to understand if there is a recognized authoritative source for a specific type of data. In many enterprises, the data required for making business decisions is created by wide ranging applications, perhaps from separate lines of business (Theme 1). BI systems today have the capacity to work with numerous types of data such as numerical or non numerical data. The quality of this data is as important as any other data. The difference in the level of data quality is one of the many factors that may explain why some organizations are successful with their BI initiative while some are not so successful (Isik, O., Jones, M.C., Sidoroya, A. 2011). • 38. Unnatural Relationships Prompted by Power A struggle for supremacy between parent and offspring is a reoccurring theme throughout William Shakespeare s tragedy King Lear. The play unfolds as King Lear is deciding how to divide his realm amongst his three daughters. Lear s two eldest daughters, Goneril and Regan, flatter their father with elaborate speeches of love hoping to inherit the largest piece of land. Unknown to Lear, his daughter s so called unconditional love for him is nothing more than an attempt to possess dominance over the kingdom. Consequently, an unnatural relationship between father and daughters is created due to the pursuit of power. The first sign that Lear s daughters desire control is observable in Regan s dialogue in act one scene one. After Goneril appeals her love for Lear Regan replies, I am made of that self mettle as my sister / And prize me at her worth. In my true heart / I find she names my very deed of love; / Only she comes too short (lines 76 79 page 11). Here Regan claims that her and Goneril are the same, yet Goneril s love is not as worthy as Regan s. Both daughters are competing against each other in order to obtain the most amount of land. As a result, an abnormal relationship is formed because the daughter s drive to love their father should not be based on material possessions. Goneril s and Regan s motivation is the control they will receive in deceiving their father with false love. Additionally, the concept of unnaturalness between daughters and father due to being ... The food that I use to describe as good food, I am beginning to undoubtedly recognise for the unhealthy junk that it actually is. There are countless others who also notice how horrible these foods are to feed children in school cafeterias. Today, those same cafeterias are tremendously different from the ones I remember from when I was little, and they are always continuously changing. The amount of options we are offered have not lessened, they have simply changed. Instead of having the option to purchase nachos, we now are given the option of baked fries. Also, instead of having a dessert of an innutritious brownie, we now are given a large variety of sweet fruits to choose from instead. While some students distinguish these changes as a catastrophe, I can understand the importance of having students skip dessert during a school lunch. Allowing the NSLP to regulate what is served in school lunches would help parents trust that their children would be getting healthier foods at school, help to combat the epidemic of obesity and malnutrition in the United States, and assist in educating children on healthy diet choices. To a woman, a father teaches her how to be respected and feel like a queen. However without the proper nurturing from the father the girl partakes in the wrong men and to be promiscuous at an early age (Prager). If a girl was taught how to value herself by her father, then she would not involve herself in in ungodly things and she would have learned to honor herself. Having no guidance or a father figure to set an example causes a girl or woman not to distinguish right from wrong and she set her own standards. Thus, a female cannot engage herself in attributes that are positive and honoring towards herself and others. However, not all fatherless woman partake in the wrong doings that Prager mentions in his article. Essay on We Real Cool, Poetry Explanation STUDENT NAME PROFESSOR CLASS DATE We Real Cool: Poetry Explication We Real Cool is a poem written by Gwendolyn Brooks in 1959, and published in her book The Bean Eaters (We Real Cool, pg 1). A simple and light poem, We Real Cool is vague enough to allow readers to visualize their own characters and setting, but specific enough to keep a consistent rebellious image. Brook s attitude toward the characters is undecided, as the tone is neither tragic nor victorious, but more so just balanced and neutral. This is an obvious statement of action, but leaves the reader questioning whether they left a not yet dismissed school day or a school day that had come to an end. As a third option, the reader might also assume they left school for good. The couplets continue in the next stanza with, We lurk late. With this line we can assume the verb lurk is meant to represent a much less gracious movement, an almost monstrous, but comical way of walking. In the poem s consistent three word lines, the word late is included to end the sentence. This gives the reader an idea of when the poem can possibly take place within the time of day. Although it may not be a literal statement regarding the time of day, as it can also translate to a rebellious activity the characters wish to point out. The second sentence within this stanza is, We strike straight. This line can also have multiple meanings depending on the usage and perspective of the words strike and straight. Two possible literal translations can be deal with fighting, as strike means hit or punch, while another meaning of strike is how one lights a cigarette. The fourth stanza begins with, We sing sin, a line that can also have multiple meanings. If taken from a paradox angle, the gentleness and innocence of singing contradicts with the literal meaning of sin.
