Definition: Animal welfare is defined as well-being of animals.
Indicators of animal Welfare: can be judged by longevity, Health, Behavior, Physiology,
Immunity, reproduction and Expressions of animals etc.
4. Principles of Animal Welfare:
WHO for Animal Health recognizes the five internationally recognized freedoms for animals,
1. FREEDOM FROM THRUST & HUNGER: Provide fresh water and diet to maintain full health and vigour.
2. FREEDOM FOR DISCOMFORT: provide appropriate environment and comfortable resting area.
3. FREEDOM FROM PAIN, INJURY AND DISEASE: by prevention, rapid diagnosis and treatment.
4. FREEDOM TO EXPRESS MOST NORMAL BEHAVIOR: by providing sufficient space, company of own kind.
5. FREEDOM FROM FEAR AND DISTRESS: ensure conditions and treatment which avoid mental sufferings.
