Gangster film magazines
For my second ancillary text I will produce a movie magazine cover, so I started to
research magazines that have used gangster film characters for their front cover. I
started to look at the different conventions that are common in the front covers of the
magazines.
The similarities that I have noticed are:
The colours used differentiate depending on the film and also the magazines
preferences. The magazines above have used natural colours like browns and greys
with the complimentary colours of red and white for the text.
The masthead of the magazine is behind the image.
The images used are one or more of the main characters from the film itself.
The layout of the magazines are different to each other, it depends on the preference of
the magazine.
The fonts used are also bold and sharp, the placement/layout of the text also
differentiate depending on the magazines preference of layouts. The titles of the
movies go across the bottom section of the magazine.
The barcode and price are all at the bottom of all the magazine covers.
Looking at these magazine covers gave me a direct idea of how I should construct my
magazines cover to meet some of the conventions within the covers, so my magazine
cover has a professional appearance and suits my trailers genre the best.
