DATE Allows the reader to see what date the magazine was. SUB HEADING BLOCKED OUT INTO BLACK SUB SECTIONS This is to section separate parts of the magazine out. It makes it easier to read and catches the readers attention to the main parts of the magazine to make them interested and make them buy it. BRIEF HEADING +SUMMARY Gives the reader a brief summary of what the main article is about, It allows them to go to the page easily if it interests them. NME MASTHEAD SAME COLOUR CODE AS FRONT This carries on the NME house colours. Also would be easier to just use the same colours rather than keep changing it, people also recognise the colours and link it to NME. MAIN IMAGE Image is edited so it looks like a photograph, the effect of this to make it seem like it has been taken on a tour and stuck into a journal. It is a blonde attractive woman, which would carry on the male theme of the magazine which is made for young attractive people BANDS Bands are listed in red with page number in black, makes it stand out on the page. It is for people if they see a band they like to go straight to the page or if they was flicking through they would want to buy the magazine to read about them. EDITORS INTRODUCTION This is a summary of what’s going to be inside the magazine, it is for people to read and if they find it interesting they can go to the page numbers given in the paragraph. PREVIOUS/FUTURE EDITIONS OF NME ARE SHOWN WITH DETAILS OF WEBSITE/PHONE NUMBER ETC This is for people to order any past magazines that they may have missed or to pre-order any magazines that are coming out. It is for the organization to make more money.

Contents page Kerrang (Nov 2009) Analysis MASTHEAD SAME COLOUR CODE AS FONT This carries on the house colours of Kerrang, this would make it easier than to keep changing the colours and they would also be recognised as Kerrang when they are seen so would help sales. MAIN IMAGE The main image shows a Bring me the horizon member and shows that it is the main feature of the magazine as it takes up half of the page. It was also on the cover so again shows importance, it also shows the genre of the magazine that the heavy metal band is the main feature, so somebody interested in hip hop would not naturally buy this magazine. It would attract any fans of this band or of this certain genre of magazine however, he is covered in tattoos which again is linked to the genre of music as well as his long hair. Finally, he is signing autographs to show that the band is popular. BANDS There are a number of bands with their page numbers after it so that people reading can quickly go to the page of the band that interests them, it also shows the reader again what genre of magazine it is with a number of rock bands listed such as ‘AC/DC’ EDITORS INTRODUCTION This paragraph shows a short introduction to some artists personalities and briefly says what’s in the magazine, if the reader was interested they could read this as an introduction and then go the page numbers that are given by the editor to certain bits in the magazine. DATE The date allows the reader to see what issue number/date the magazine was released. It would be useful for those who collected the magazine on a weekly basis to make sure they didn’t miss out on one or for any subscribers to the magazine. It takes up almost the whole page showing that he is the most important part of the page and draws your eyes towards him as soon as you see it. The use of Kanye shows the genre of the magazine (rap/hip-hop) and would attract any fans of this genre or artist to buy the magazine. It also shows him looking very smart and cool, showing his wealth and making him look quite serious, giving the magazine a sophisticated look. It is also in black and white, except from the flower that somebody is holding on his chest, making it stand out, and makes the image stand out without being too bold. MASTHEAD The masthead is in big bold writing and is the boldest writing on the page, making the reader read it so they would know that it is the contents. Having it spread out over different lines makes it more interesting than just having it in a single line, and makes the page more attractive. The writing is in a basic font, carrying on the sophisticated look of the page. DATE The date allows the reader to see what issue number/date the magazine was released. NAME OF MAGAZINE The magazine name is in the background and just a V, which is the style of vibe so when people see it they will link it to Vibe. It carries on the colour scheme of the contents page which is black and white which carries on the sophisticated look, to surround Kanye West, which again shows his importance. It is also in the same style of writing as the contents, which is basic and gives it a simplistic look. SUBHEADINGS The subheadings on the contents are all in script like writing, which is bolder than the rest of the writing to make it stand out, being in the font it is also carries on the sophisticated look of the page, creating a contrast between what you normally perceive of rap and hip hop which is more aggressive, to a calmer, more sophisticated look. It also highlights the main bits of the page for the reader. BRIEF SUMMARY The brief summary of the magazine highlights the main bits of interest within the magazine. This allows the reader to go straight to the page they want, the features showed also show the genre of the magazine, which would interest anyone who is into this type of music.
