Uf Application Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of the "Uf Application Essay" can present a unique set of
challenges. Firstly, one needs to thoroughly understand the specific requirements and
expectations of the University of Florida's application process. This involves delving into the
institution's values, mission, and any specific prompts provided, requiring meticulous research
and attention to detail.
Furthermore, the essay must be a reflection of the individual's experiences, aspirations, and
character. This necessitates introspection, self-awareness, and the ability to articulate one's
thoughts coherently. Balancing the personal and academic aspects in a way that resonates with
the admissions committee adds another layer of complexity.
The challenge lies not only in meeting the technical aspects of writing, such as structure and
grammar, but also in capturing the reader's attention and leaving a lasting impression. The essay
should stand out among numerous others, showcasing the applicant's unique qualities and what
they can contribute to the university community.
Time management becomes crucial, as the essay-writing process involves multiple drafts,
revisions, and perhaps seeking feedback from peers or mentors. The pressure to encapsulate one's
entire academic and personal journey within a limited word count can be daunting, requiring a
delicate balance between depth and brevity.
In conclusion, tackling a "Uf Application Essay" demands a multi-faceted approach, involving
research, introspection, effective writing, and the ability to meet specific criteria. It is an intricate
task that necessitates dedication and a thorough understanding of both oneself and the
university's expectations.

Sergei Eisenstein s Bonnie And Clyde
Sergei Eisenstein s film theory often reflects on the capabilities of allowing film
editing to create the essence of the scenes. With the work of Arthur Penn s Bonnie
and Clyde viewers see aspects of the formalist concepts while comparing Eisenstein
interpretation of artistic cinematography. In Eisenstein Cinematic Principle and
Ideogram Dialectical Approach the article discusses the way cinematographic traits
help revolutionize the way we view different forms graphically. The article maintains
that cinematography is simply a montage of scenes in frames timed together to create
a picturesque feel that is often left open to interpret by the viewer. The form of the
filmwill associate different dimensions to an object that is used to be the... Show more

Viewers can see that she is naive, unhappy and pondering her decision to leave
home, which is rather difficult or seen as predictable to express verbally in her
room alone. She is also naked in this that delivers a sense of innocence and
adolescence or wanting to experience adulthood. What is particularly interesting is
how Penn uses the bed rails as a prop in this scene as a cinematographic convention.
Penn creates a depictive metaphor about the character physical state when Bonnie
holds onto the rails and looks out solemnly like a prisoner. Viewers can see that she
is trapped in a life that is not stimulating, and that she is longing for some sort of
excitement. When the camera zooms in to an extreme close up of her eyes viewers
can see the sudden change of somber to slight curiosity that cinematography delivers
skillfully in the scene. When editing images together that create their own meanings
allows the film to depend on what one sees visually on the screen. This is the purpose
of Eisenstein theory, to allow room for the viewer to develop their own intellectual
context from the content being presented to
Public Speaking Self Reflection
Public Speaking Self Reflection
COM/128
May 11, 2014
Public speaking has always been very hard for me, I ve never been the type to
stand in front of an audience and speak or do a presentation. No matter how many
times I ve done presentations I ve always get nervous or shy and always forget
what I rehearsed. In the military I was training Nco, everytime we had a new marine
check in to our unit or are shop. I would be the one to give them and the A
presentation on what is expected of them and also give them information about the
unit and our shop. In my opinion the Marine Corp prepared me for public speaking,
especially if you where lower rank and your senior enlisted would throw you to the

What do you want to accomplish in this course?
Whether I like it or not I been given the opportunity to talk to large crowds like a
squadron or just a couple of people in the class. My problems have always been the
same getting shy, anxiety, and even sweating. Learn to analyze the size of the
audience, I want to be able to captivate my audience and overall I just need to find
the confidence in myself to do it.
How would you plan to improve weak areas to accomplish your goals? Overall no
matter how many times I do a rehearsal or practice I always get stage fright. Stage
fright is my weakest area I have done rehearsals and private or with one or two
people but when it comes to the bigger picture I always freeze. I need to learn to
speak with confidence and try to get the audience involved instead of rushing the
presentation or speaking very softly so no one hears me I need to be able to let the
audience know that I am confident and the information that I am sharing is worth
their time to listen and learn
Descriptionages And Disadvantages Of A Wide Area
Network...
Local Area Network A LAN, local area network, is a group of computers and other
devices that share a wireless link to a server. A local area network is usually in a
distinct location like an office where all the devices are close, hence the name
local. It is used to share resources like a printer and can be used with a small group
of people or a much larger one. Interconnection devices such as switches and
routers are all used to connect the network to the internet. Wi Fi or Ethernet can be
used to connect the network to the internet. A local area network must relate to
standards and protocols. It does this as it is connected to the internet through the
Wi Fi. Wide Area Network A wide area network is distributed places unlike a local
area network which is local. A WAN interconnects different local area networks. A
wide area network could be in companies and organisations for example, it could
have connections to a company s headquarters or branch facilities. Routers are
used to connect a LAN to a WAN. They are functioned to allow users to share
access to applications and other services. There are various different protocols
within a wide area network such as broadband access and point to point protocol.
WAN s are mostly managed by a private organisation so that no other companies can
get on their network however, there is open wide area networks too. The main
example would be the internet. WAN technologies There are various different
technologies within a WAN.
Better Test Scores
The boy attempts to come up with words for the essay to put onto the paper. While
he is trying to come up with the words he is staring blankly at his laptop wishing he
could use it. He knows that it would be faster to finish the essay and easier for him
to come up with something, but he also knows his teacher would not allow him to do
it on the computer. If schools switched from textbooks to computers students could
become driven to do work simply because they are comfortable with computers.
Computers can help students learn faster and in certain cases, easier. Computers can
also hold multiple textbooks on just one device, It has been proven that students get
better scores on test while using a computer. Computers have better resources than a
textbook contains. Better test scores are better for the average student so that they
can increase their grades and raise their gradepoint average. While textbooks can be
heavy in large amounts computers can hold tons of textbooks... Show more content on

Students are comfortable when they use technology for tests instead of pencil and
paper. Many students prefer using a type of a computer or their phones while
testing. Tests can also be done quicker when a student uses technology and it is
possible that the grade would be better. With higher test scores a student has a better
chance of passing the class and grade that they are currently in, and a student with a
higher GPA could have a better chance at a scholarship. One reason for higher test
scores is that students now have become accustomed to using a computer and prefer
it over the regular pencil and paper tests. Everything has its flaws, but when a teacher
can look at everything the students are doing on a computer those flaws are not as
common. Once a student figures out that the teacher can watch everything they do,
they tend to not do activities that distract them and keep themselves on
Differences Between The Last Samurai And Satsuma
Rebellion
The Last Samurai vs. The Satsuma Rebellion The Last Samurai is a war film
depicting Civil War veteran Nathan Algren, thrust into the middle of a conflict
between a small sect of samurai and the newly formed Japanese empire after being
sent over to train the empire s army. The film was inspired by the events of the
1877 Satsuma Rebellion led by Saigo Takamori. While the film retains some
genuine aspects of the time period, many aspects of the film are fictionalized. This
most notably includes the size of the conflict. While the rebellion was a massive
conflict that exhausted the resources of the fledgling Japanese empire, the film
depicts the conflict as relatively small, limiting it to only two battles. The film is,
overall, an entertaining yet inaccurate depiction of the Satsuma Rebellion and the
time period as a whole.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would be far more likely to see a European adviser, more specifically from either
Prussia or Britten. It would also be out of place for the United States to be
negotiating any terms of trade at this time as there was already a treaty out in place
in 1858 that regulated trade between the two nations. Another inaccuracy would be
the use of firearms within the film compared to reality. In reality not only were
samurai well versed in the use of rifles (the film depicts them using only swords,
spears and bows) but the newly formed Japanese army would have fairly competent
with firearms as well as they had been common place in the nation over two
hundred years. Algren would have more likely been helping to organize the army as
opposed to showing soldiers how to use a
What Is A Reflection On Learning And Individual
Difference...
During spring semester, I took a class on learning and individual difference with
Dr. Tobey, in which we covered theory and research in learning and social
psychology in the school environment. While we were covering a topic on
neuroscience, I became fascinated with learning more and approached Dr. Tobey on
any possible research opportunities. Taking my request, she referred me to Dr.
Immordino Yang, who is an associate professor at Rossier, and informed me about
the Brainand Creativity Institute (BCI). As will be explained later, I contacted Dr.
Immordino Yang and forward me to her partner Dr. Yang on the projects they were
working on.
Internship Site The Brain and Creativity Institute is located on the USC campus, in
the Dornsife Cognitive Neuroscience Imaging building. The BCI lab itself presents
itself with glass doors and once you enter has a front desk secretary to assist with
any possible questions. In the second floor of the building there are various labs
where it hosts the multiple programs that the BCI has to offer. Some of the
research programs that are housed in the BCI include, the Brain and music
program, feelings program and the one I am involved in, the cross cultural social
emotional program. In addition to having the opportunity to work in the lab, I was
able to do my work at home. This privilege was given to me because most of my
work entailed of coding survey responses.
Activities and Work Duties When I first entered the doors of the BCI, I met with
my fieldwork supervisor, Dr. Yang, who explained to me the purpose of the
program and the overall mission of the BCI. Throughout our conversation, I
mentioned to her my eagerness to learn more about the neuroscience field and my
willingness to assist with some projects. After our meeting, she sent me various
articles to read and recommended that I take notes on some specific topics that
interest me. The articles related to the broader scheme of neuroscience along with
some articles by Dr. Immordino Yang. The article that was highly emphasized by Dr.
Yang was a study by Dr. Immordino Yang, where she looked at how learning affects
two individuals who are missing one hemisphere of their brain. After looking through

Duke Ellington Quote
American jazz legend Duke Ellington said, A problem is a chance for you to do
your best. When I hear this quote, all I can think about is that you have to fail to
be successful the next time around. I love what Duke Ellington said because when
there s a problem, all I want to do is solve it and be my best when I m solving the
problem. Every problem in life is just a way to make me a better person and a better
individual. Just like how Duke Ellingtonsaid, problems are just ways to be the best
he or she can possibly be. I love this quote because it makes me feel that it s alright
to fail, because when I fail it make me want to go back at it again. My favorite thing
about this quote is that failing is not always bad. Instead, failing

Censorship Is Monitoring Or Withholding Information
Essay
Censorship is monitoring or withholding information. The information can come
from a book, drama, media, or any other form of entertainment; but it is usually
considered a threat to the consumer. Yet the consumer is not always the audience.
Sometimes the threat is to a politician or government official. The debate over
topics in the realm of what is acceptable and what should be banned only continues
to rise as more taboo topics become acceptable. Some argue that keeping certain
things behind closed doors is imperative for a harmonious living place. Others say
that a small discourse is critical to remain sane. Censorshipis a way of protecting
society from itself. Leaders and parental figures can make the choice to monitor
what is read, watched, and consumed, but until the world lives the life worthy of a
children s book the effort is futile. While the narrative being taught may be
inappropriate or harsher it doesn t decrease the value of it.
Arguments are shown throughout everyday life over every topic. The question isn
t, When will society stop fighting the norm? The question is, When will society
stop fighting change? The world evolves with every second. With that evolution
society blurs the line with what is acceptable and not. Sixty years ago the idea of
two boys kissing was the equivalent of burning a baby in church on a Sunday
morning. Today, two men kissing is celebrated with its own parade. Social norms
and ideals have been ripping down the cloak of
Essay about The Use Of Setting In A P
The setting of A P ; is quite usual for a regular grocery store on a weekday. The
town is north of Boston, five miles from the beach. Since the store is right in the
middle of town, banks and churches and the newspaper store can been seen from

the sun can be seen on the pavement. The main character, Sammy, is almost

manager, Lengel, is gray and teaches Sunday school. The setting in John Updike s

the girls even make the journey into the store is for a can of Kingfish Fancy

that you hear words to, in my case Hello (bing) there, you (gung) hap py pee pul

story is when the three girls are described. First, the short one is seen by Sammy as
Updike so explains: The one that caught my eye first was the one in the plaid green
two piece. She was a chunky kid, with a good tan and a sweet broad soft looking
can with those two crescents of white just under it, where the sun never seems to

being: [W]ith black hair that hadn t quite frizzed right, and one of these sunburns

Gaining Demerit Points For Breaking Traffic Laws
Demerit points is a system in which you gain points for breaking traffic laws.
Different traffic laws will add up to more points. Gaining demerit points is not a
good thing, it comes with penalties. The more Demerit points the worse the penalty
is so it s in the driver s best interest to keep their demerit points at 0. If you gain
enough demerit points it could result in losing your license. Breaking Different
traffic laws will result in different amounts of demerit points. breaking more
serious traffic laws like failing to remain at the scene of a collision or failing to stop
when signaled or asked by a police officer will result in 7 demerit points. Some of
the smaller ones that will get you less points could be not signaling failing

An Example Of A Nonprofit Organization
Being a resident of New Orleans in year of 2005 affected a lot of families
negatively by Hurricane Katrina. But, after witnessing the positive impact
volunteers had on the recovery of New Orleans, this influenced me to become
more involved in the nonprofit sector. Nonprofit organizations provide many
services to meet a community s needs. An example of a nonprofit organization can
be hospitals, universities, social clubs, environmental groups and sports clubs.
Communities depend on nonprofits to fill the gaps that may not be filled by the
government. Because nonprofits are so vital to the world it is imperative that
these organizations have proper staff to function and operate. This means that the
organizational leaders must be able to recruit volunteers. This is by far not an easy
task to accomplish considering the jobs that volunteers are being asked to perform
are not always enjoyable or idyllic. Volunteers are asked to perform things from
daily, miniscule chores to hazardous, life risking projects. Due to these harsh
circumstances it can be hard for leaders to keep their volunteers motivated and
willing to participate in projects that are not challenging or satisfying. This also
includes responsibilities that are dull and time consuming. Social media is a free
and effective way for nonprofit organizations to recruit and retain a wide variety of
volunteers. The days following Katrina the world watched the news with horror as
they saw an American city under water. My
Maxine Hong Kingston By Maxine Kong
Maxine Hong Kingston prides herself on her personal strength and character, as
well as the ability she developed to assert herself into a culture that is not accepting
of her differences. As the daughter of Chinese immigrants living in the US, she was
tasked with living a double life, straddling the line between her traditional Chinese
upbringing and the environment outside of her home in 1960 s California. She was
in many ways a perfectly normal and intelligent child. Through her writing she is
able to describe complex interactions from her childhood, detailing her reasoning
and understanding of the world. Despite this cleverness and flexibility, she begins
her account by describing herself as voiceless, seemingly dumb, and explains how it
was that she failed kindergarten. Through this story we get a view of how an
intelligent young person might experience difficulties caused by cultural differences,
a unique perspective from a first generation American. In this excerpt from Woman
Warrior, Kingston recounts her experiences as a young person without a voice. Her
struggle is deepened by the culturally engrained xenophobia and misogyny that
existed in her diverse neighborhood, as well as pressures and extreme obstacles
thrown at her by her own mother. The child whom Kingston describes goes through
continuous growth in finding her own identity and strength in character, but it is
clear that she still carries the fear and pain created by her uniquely difficult
Upper Class Taxes Essay
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Such a phrase has become accepted as a
part of American life. A country that was built on opportunities has become
complacent of the equalities that are being taken away from them and are being
given to the elites. Currently there are 7 income tax brackets for heads of
households ranging from 12% of $9,525 to 37% of $500,000. However, in 1978
there were 34 brackets for heads of household income tax ranging from 14% of
$8,492(2,200)to 70% of $703,351.32 (182,200),adjusted for inflation. What can be
observed is that there has been a decrease in the highest tax margin, once $700,000
now $500,00. as well as a 37% decrease in the highest tax, was 70% now 33%. This
means that the wealthy have had their income taxes almost halved where as the lower

However, According to the Congressional Research Service, the average rate paid
by the top 0.1 percent of taxpayers fell from more than 40 percent in the early 1980s
to around 25 percent in 2009. Despite that decline, he says, we haven t seen a
significant change in the job creation rate or a significant change in new business
creation. . What has been effected is the increase of income polarization in the United
States. The lower class continues to receive the same treatment it has been given
for decades. Whereas the upper class is given more and more tax cuts saving them
money. Money that could be given to support the country that has provided them
with the great opportunity to create a thriving business; which is an opportunity
that not even some their fellow Americans have. My proposal is to increase the
number of tax brackets on higher incomes in order put more money back in to the
hands of the working and lower class who provide the fuel for a healthy economy. It
is found that by providing more money for the lower classes will help the economy
Character Analysis Of Williwaw Wind
Having read the book Williwaw Winds by Sally Bair, I find Jacob Bergren to be an
interesting character. Generally, Jake makes morally good choices. He does
anything he can to help whoever is in need. Ever since he was young his family
and he volunteered on Thanksgiving preparing Thanksgiving meals for the
homeless shelters (Bair 42). Another example of Jake helping others is on the boat
when ice was covering all of their work. He ran downstairs to grab his dumbbells.
With his pair of dumbbells Freddy and he beat away the ice and they got to work
right away (60). At the end of the book when the crew is being rescued the
swimmer plans to pull Jake out of the freezing water before Patrick but being the
courageous person he is, Jack insists that Patrick goes first. Jake wisely made this
decision based on his previous knowledge of Patrick and his fear of loss and being
alone. Patrick was very afraid as the boat was going down; all he could think about
was losing his father, the skipper. He already lost his mom due to cancer so I am
sure the thoughtof losing his dad is constantly on the back of his head (86). By
completing these actions of helping others it proves that Jake is a man of God. We
know this because he recites the Bible verses that he learned from his father saying
them as Jake was growing up. His motivation that inspired him to complete these
actions is to travel back home to his family, now that he has come to terms with not
always being the center of attention and

Indonesian Migrants Writing: Crossing Borders and Proposing a New Concept of

Introduction
Within these past few years, Indonesian domestic workers (hereafter IDWs) have
caught people s attention with the publication of their novels, short stories, and
poetries. The emergence of Sastra Buruh Migran (migrant workers literature), a
genre which refers to the creative writing of IDWs who work in countries such as
Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore (Retnaningdyah 23), apparently has challenged
the negative labels which IDWs have endured. In their homeland, IDWs suffer from
bad stereotyping: domestic workers are nothing but physical workers who have to
operate for a meagre salary, in often bad conditions. As domestic work is not
considered as a formal employment, this means exclusion from the national labor
legislation (Factsheet). Similarly, in her ethnographic research on Latina domestic
worker, Hondagneu Sotelo asserts that people perceive paid domestic worker as
under the table economy because this particular work takes place in a private home
(9). Also, in the context of transnational labor market, such perception still applies
for the foreign migrant workers. In IDWs case, while facing marginalization in a
multiple sense, they are no stranger to stereotypes like uncivilized and stupid simply
because of their short of English skills and lacking sufficient knowledge and
experience to handle housework in a modern household (Lan in Loveband

into a toad! How terrible! By turning Prince John into a toad, by law, Sir Leo would
become the king and he could marry Princess Tricia. What Sir Leo didn t know
was that the toad affect had a twist; if the person the prince loved kissed him, he
would be a normal person again and marry the person he loved. Poor Prince John
thought he had to kiss the princess to turn back into a normal person; of course, that
wasn t true. Sir Leo used his potion on Prince John and it turned him into a toad,
which was what Sir Leo wanted. It worked! Sir Leo
Anne Bronte Research Paper
For many years, Anne BrontГ« s literary works have been viewed as classics of
English literature. BrontГ« had a unique way of being able to portray realistic
situations in her poems and short novels (PoemHunter, 2014). She was not afraid to
bring up the realities behind male alcoholism and brutality in her most famous
pieces of literature, Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. In addition, she
also wrote several poems including Farewell, A Prayer, and Confidence. Anne
BrontГ« is part of a literary dynasty with her famous sisters Charlotte BrontГ«, known
for writing Jane Eyre, and Emily BrontГ«, known for writing Wuthering Heights.
Although Anne BrontГ« is thought of as the least talented BrontГ« sister, she has

Heterosexist Discrimination In America
Americans live in a society that seems constantly plagued by various types of
discrimination. For instance, ableism, classism, and sizeism are a few examples of
the sorts of systematic discriminations that Americans face every day. However, as of
late, one of the most prevalent forms that targets homosexual minorities is
Heterosexist discrimination. Heterosexism is defined as the discrimination or
prejudice against homosexuals ( Heterosexism ). In addition to being prejudiced and
discriminatory, Heterosexism is more often than not paired with the idea that
heterosexuality is the normal sexual orientation, and therefore superior. For the past
couple of years, America has attempted to mend the issues in our society that kept

Types Of Exchange Rate During The Asian Financial Crisis
Introduction
An exchange rate tells you how much of one currency you can exchange for another.
Generally, there are two types of exchange rate which is widely used by many
countries: fixed and floating exchange rate. Nowadays, it is necessary to know what
are their advantages as domestic currencies are essential to the method that economies
run. But they are both not perfect. In 1973, with the collapse of the Bretton Woods
system, countries that used fixed exchange rate were seriously affected and floating
exchange rate rose afterward. However, there still had some debates on both fixed
rate and floating exchange rate. Especially after the Asian financial crisis in 1997, the
debates became more intense. A fixed exchange rate once again favored by some
countries. As we can see from the history, they have benefits and drawbacks. Each of
them has their own characteristics. It is not possible to determine which exchange
rate is better because the choice of the appropriate one may vary from different
countries. In other words, the exchange rate regime changes along with the
development of the international economic environment. That is why there are some
different exchange rate regimes which lies between them in reality. Developing
countries that have unstable economies and politics mostly use the fixed exchange
rate to guarantee their residents a normal standard of living. On the other hand,
developed countries such as the U.S, Great Britain are using floating exchange

No matter what type of sports they play, athletes across the globe receive due
recognition for their prowess. Many athletes are introduced to their sport of choice
at an early age, and they may have been practicing for numerous years before they
become well known to the public. Not everyone achieves the level of success and
worldwide adoration among fans that Beckham and Woods and Federer, have, of

Roger Federer is yet another athlete to have linked his name to the Rolex brand. He
has excelled in a sport that is typically ruled by young athletes, and he has continued
to rank highly for more than 10 years. He has consistently garnered an impressive
number of world records, so it s no surprise that a luxury watch brand like Rolex
would invite the celebrated tennis player to publicly approve of their brand. His
dedication to playing his sport in a classic style matches the image of the classic
watchmaker.
Plenty of other top competitors in tennis have lent their names and images to luxury
watch companies, as well. Novak Djokovic has represented Audemars Piguet

watch company apparently recognized that he would serve them well in their

of durable, lightweight price that a top athlete would appreciate. The watch that
Nadal proudly wore on the court and that CNBC reporter Robert Frank predicted

Analysis Of Poem Anthem For Doomed Youth By Wilfred...
Throughout history, wars have been an important factor affecting many people s
lives. The two sonnets Anthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred Owen and Trench
Duty by Siegfried Sassoon are two tales inspired by their experiences fighting in
WW1 and all the horrors that war made them experience. Both poets use different
sonnetstructures, yet convey quite similar messages. In addition, these poets develop
powerful images and metaphors, but in subtly different ways. Sassoon and Owen use
structure, imagery and metaphor to show his audience the horrors of war and also
how unfortunate going to war is.
To begin both sonnets, Sassoon and Owen develop stanzas which argue how they
represent all war disgraces. Sassoon s sonnet is composed by multiple heroic
couplet rhymes, which makes the sonnet more fluid. This could relate to the lack
of focus by part of the soldiers, as to show that everything was happening too fast
in order for the soldiers to focus on anything else besides fighting: why did he do
it?... Starlight overhead ( Trench 13), this is a very clear example on how soldiers
cannot focus, since at the moment that the soldier starts thinking about the purpose
of war, he gets distracted by a Starlight overhead ( TRENCH 13). Another really
characteristic aspect of this sonnet is that it lacks of stanzas, as well as of voltas. This
makes the sonnet even more fluid. Owens sonnet has a much more erratic rhyme
scheme than Sassoon s. Anthem for Doomed Youth has a Petrarchan
Lower Class In The Great Gatsby
The 1920s, also known as the Roaring Twenties, was an age of dramatic changes in
societal expectations. It was a time of economic progress for Americans, which meant
many people from the lower class had the opportunity to earn enough money and
improve their position in society. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
, Jay Gatsby, the protagonist in the novel, came from the lower class and thought
that his new wealth could win over Daisy Buchanan, who originally came from the
higher class. Fitzgerald symbolizes Daisy as Gatsby s American Dream, or his
success and prosperity. This eventually created conflict between the higher and lower
class. The Great Gatsbyby F. Scott Fitzgerald demonstrates the difficulty of upward
social mobility due to the rigid class structure, which ultimately resulted in the
realization that the American Dream was unattainable to those of the lower class.
In the novel, Jay Gatsby s determination to rise in class and obtain his goal,
illustrates a shift in the traditional ideas prior to the 1920 s. As Gatsby gives the
ambitious young reporter his life story he explains that His parents were shiftless
and unsuccessful farm people... he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a
seventeen year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was
faithful to the end, (Fitzgerald 98). Fitzgerald characterizes Gatsby as hopeful, or
someone who would go to great lengths to appear that he belongs in the upper class
in order to
Circumstantial Evidence Analysis
Evidence is every considerable type of proof legally presented at a trial it also must
be approved by a judge. The reason why we use evidence is to help convince the
judge or jury of supposed facts that relate to the case. Witnesses who testify, an
expert who has information on certain fields of work, paperwork, records, photos
etc. are all types of evidencethat could be used in a case. Circumstantial evidence is
evidence that aims to come to a conclusion by stating the cause while logically trying
to prove the facts. The arguments and statements lawyers present to the judge and a
judge who wants to make a statement can be ruled with an objection therefore it is
not consider evidence. During a testimony a witness must swear under oath to say
nothing but the truth that way her testimony can be considered the truth since they
no way of know if it is the truth or not. If they are caught in a lie consequences will
be brought down on the witness and in some cases it can completely throw out the

It has to have the potential to hold in court and must be relevant to the case, can
not be immaterial, or must be able to pass all standards which means no objections
if not it is consider inadmissible evidence which is not relevant to the case. On
certain occasions a person may try to present certain evidence that has nothing to do
with the case or determining a fact. For example, gory details to prove support a
point or fact may possibly be irrelevant, so it may outweigh its value. Criminal cases
that the courts handle are usually much more strict on letting the jury hear such
inappropriate details because of the possibility in undue prejudice. The court only
wants the jury to hear the passive aggressive version of facts in cases especially those
that involved

Moan Portrayal Of Polynesian Culture
Recently, three articles were received discussing whether or not the movie, Moana ,
was stereotypical of Polynesian people. While some believe that Maui was
characterized as silly, others foresee him as heavily built. Therefore, disney was
justified in creating the Moana film and was not culturally insensitive to the
Polynesian people because it took an interminable amount of research to learn about
the culture,Polynesians were chosen to portray a character, and the filmmakers were
intricate with their work.
As a matter of a fact, it took Disney 5 years to complete the production of Moana !

whether or not he or she is professional enough to become part of the film. Source

actors from within the Polynesian cultural sphere. Not only was Disney exact with
the way the movie was designed to outstretch immaculateness, but to introduce a
new form of art: they chose actors who were native Polynesians, like Auli l

Additionally, the star of the movie gave her own opinion, expressing her thoughts
on Moana, the princess. Source one provides the following facts: Cravalho ...grew
up in a small town and attended an all Hawaiian school where she learned the
folklore of Maui, which is one of the islands of Hawaii. She also said, As I continue
in this and as I potentially might leave my home, what does that make me? Does
that still keep me Polynesian? Am I still grounded and rooted in the way that I
want to be? And I can honestly say yes. In other words, her education status in
Hawaii developed a princess who did what she wanted to do her way (source three
provides details explaining how women were independent). This was a tribute to the
Polynesians who grew up with an independent mindset; this can be viewed as the
icing to the cake in a movie because it is almost like a surprise that gradually reveals
itself, along with the characters personalities. To conclude, a movie needs more than
just an amazing

Another symbol in the story is the laundry that Delia does. Skyes has yelled at her
several times to stop washing the white folk s laundry, but she continues to do so.
This could be a way for Delia to get back at Skyes for all the misery that she has gone

Essay about Symbols in the Briefcase in “Invisible

Towards the end of the book Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, the narrator who
remains unnamed thought the entire book, risks his life to save a briefcase filled
with seemingly random assorted items. But later in the book the narrator is forced
to burn the items in his briefcase in order to find his way out of a sewer he gets
stuck in. Closer reading reveals that the items in his briefcase are more than random
assorted items, but instead are symbols. Each one of those symbols represents a
point in the narrator s life where he is either betrayed or made invisible by the people
around him. Through the book the two main recurring themes are betrayal and
invisibility and the narrator keeps these symbols with him because they represent

The crowd continually asks him to repeat himself and at one point the narrator miss
speaks and says social equality instead of social responsibility. This immediate
arouses the whites in the crowd. When they yell threats at him he Denys what he

the whites in the crowd immediately stop any variation from what they want to hear
coming out of the mouth of an African American. This is another way that he is
oppressed into being what people want him to be and therefore becoming invisible.
The narrator also feels betrayed when he sees Clifton with the doll. At that time the
narrator still considered himself a part of the brotherhood, and since the brotherhood
would never allow such a thing to be sold, Clifton is betraying the brotherhood and
also the narrator himself. Another symbolic item in the narrator s briefcase is the
Sambo doll that brother Clifton was selling illegally on the street. It is not the doll
itself, but instead the circumstances surrounding Clifton s death that make the doll
significant. Before his death, the narrator meets brother Clifton, and describes him as
the ideal man. He is educated, well dressed, muscular, and has a stylish swag about
him, that the narrator admires. But we don t know Clifton long before he is shot.

Symbolism In Epic Of Gilgamesh And Dante s Inferno

from the early ages of writing and even up to the writings happening around the

Pension Plan Research Paper
There are four main types of pension plans:
A.Defined benefit (DB)
B.Defined contribution (DC).
C.Government pension or Social security system
D.Self style pension or personal pension savings
A.Defined benefit (DB)
With a defined benefit pension, the employer takes the risk of investing the money
and of having you live and collect for longer than it expects. You get guaranteed
income and all that you need to do is to work, contribute and reach retirement age.
Everything else is taken care of for you, including having the funds professionally

A DB pension plan promises to pay you a certain amount of retirement income for

Defined contribution (DC)
Defined benefit pension plans frequently get replaced by defined contribution
plans. Defined contribution plans, like a 401(k) or 403(b) plan, operate by having
you, your employer or both put money into the plan. The money hopefully grows
over time and when you retire, you can draw on that money to fund your retirement.
If the money does very well, you could end up with a lot of money and generous
retirement income. However, if it doesn t perform well or you don t put enough
away, you could end up short of what you need for retirement.
With a DC plan, contributions are guaranteed, but retirement income is not. Usually,
both you and your employer contribute to the plan. Your employer may match some
of the contributions you make. You are responsible for investing all contributions to
grow your savings. In this way, the plan is similar to an RRSP. The amount available
for your retirement depends on the total contributions made to your account and the
investment returns this money earned. At retirement, you use the money in your
account to generate retirement income. You can do this by: buying an annuity from
an insurance company, or transferring your savings to a locked in retirement income
fund (LRIF) or similar income fund designed specifically for pension

still be determined. If examined closely, the poet is presenting the reader with a
memory from the past; the lesson that good things don t last forever. The poet uses
diction, imagery, and form among other literary devices to depict this deeper
meaning. Heaney s diction plays a major role in the time frame of the poem. In

Investigating Your Community s Source Of Energy
Abstract
U5: M5 A1: Examining Your Community s Source of Energy
The transition from fossil fuel to renewable resources would take a lot of time,
money, and politics. However if we use a multi source energy network and add in the
renewable resources as we slowly take out the fossil fuel ones then it will help the
transition better. Powerful political skirmishes over energy sources and increasing
awareness of the environmental impact of pollution are necessitating a transition to a
renewable energy network. Western States being large in population and using the
most resources should be first to start this transitioning stage.

Questions On Real Estate Essay
A title search will reveal many things about a piece of real estate. It is important that
the company or individual that you use does a complete and thorough evaluation of
the property in question. Ownership The title search will reflect who has a vested
interest in the property. This is most likely the same entity as that shown on the
propertyappraiser s records, however that is not always the case. This is why it is
imperative that you find a knowledgeable individual who will research the public
records and find all parties who have an interest. When previous owners or lien
holders either conveyed their interest(s) out improperly, or simply neglected to get
everyone s interests accounted for when they transferred the property, this creates
problems with the title. Sometimes, these interests may be reflected in individuals
who had owned the property several transactions before you purchased it. Another
problem can be created when people die. After an individual is deceased, their will
is filed of record in the state and county (for those in the U.S.) where they lived (are
domiciled). This can present a problem to a searcher who is researching property in
another county or state. If they are fortunate, the attorney who prepared the will
knows of all the property owned by their client and will file papers accordingly to
notify all interested persons. This will alert an examiner to research the ownership
further. Encumbrances There are many kinds of encumbrances or

Causes Of The Industrial Revolution
By 1750, there was not much doubt that if any country was going to triumph in being
the first industrial power it would be England (Hobsbawm 29). However, several
factors were responsible for England s emergence as an industrial power. Some of the
contributing factors for the Industrial Revolution were: the increasing importance of
imperial goods such as cotton, cultural traditions that stemmed from the Renaissance
and the Reformation, population change, and a government willing to subordinate all
foreign policy to its economic ends. Socially, the Industrial Revolutionin England
changed exponentially with the growing drift between the class hierarchy. Instead of
reverting to social revolution as occurred in France, England experienced political
reform during the Industrial Revolution that would become a symbol of hope for
thriving countries. There has been much speculation on the exact reason the
Industrial Revolution began in England in the late 18th Century, but certain
components are undisputed for the Revolution s occurrence there. Initially, Britain
already had a large, developed supply of coal and iron which gave the British a start
in mass metallurgy (Perry 286). There also was a surplus of capital available for
investments to be made in new industries; however, these funds came from wealthy
landowners and merchants who had grown rich in commerce through the slave trade
(Perry 287). With the start of their own capitalist industrialization, England

  • 1. Uf Application Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of the "Uf Application Essay" can present a unique set of challenges. Firstly, one needs to thoroughly understand the specific requirements and expectations of the University of Florida's application process. This involves delving into the institution's values, mission, and any specific prompts provided, requiring meticulous research and attention to detail. Furthermore, the essay must be a reflection of the individual's experiences, aspirations, and character. This necessitates introspection, self-awareness, and the ability to articulate one's thoughts coherently. Balancing the personal and academic aspects in a way that resonates with the admissions committee adds another layer of complexity. The challenge lies not only in meeting the technical aspects of writing, such as structure and grammar, but also in capturing the reader's attention and leaving a lasting impression. The essay should stand out among numerous others, showcasing the applicant's unique qualities and what they can contribute to the university community. • 2. Sergei Eisenstein s Bonnie And Clyde Sergei Eisenstein s film theory often reflects on the capabilities of allowing film editing to create the essence of the scenes. With the work of Arthur Penn s Bonnie and Clyde viewers see aspects of the formalist concepts while comparing Eisenstein interpretation of artistic cinematography. In Eisenstein Cinematic Principle and Ideogram Dialectical Approach the article discusses the way cinematographic traits help revolutionize the way we view different forms graphically. The article maintains that cinematography is simply a montage of scenes in frames timed together to create a picturesque feel that is often left open to interpret by the viewer. The form of the filmwill associate different dimensions to an object that is used to be the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Viewers can see that she is naive, unhappy and pondering her decision to leave home, which is rather difficult or seen as predictable to express verbally in her room alone. She is also naked in this that delivers a sense of innocence and adolescence or wanting to experience adulthood. What is particularly interesting is how Penn uses the bed rails as a prop in this scene as a cinematographic convention. Penn creates a depictive metaphor about the character physical state when Bonnie holds onto the rails and looks out solemnly like a prisoner. Viewers can see that she is trapped in a life that is not stimulating, and that she is longing for some sort of excitement. When the camera zooms in to an extreme close up of her eyes viewers can see the sudden change of somber to slight curiosity that cinematography delivers skillfully in the scene. When editing images together that create their own meanings allows the film to depend on what one sees visually on the screen. This is the purpose of Eisenstein theory, to allow room for the viewer to develop their own intellectual context from the content being presented to
  • 3. Public Speaking Self Reflection Public Speaking Self Reflection COM/128 May 11, 2014 Public speaking has always been very hard for me, I ve never been the type to stand in front of an audience and speak or do a presentation. No matter how many times I ve done presentations I ve always get nervous or shy and always forget what I rehearsed. In the military I was training Nco, everytime we had a new marine check in to our unit or are shop. I would be the one to give them and the A presentation on what is expected of them and also give them information about the unit and our shop. In my opinion the Marine Corp prepared me for public speaking, especially if you where lower rank and your senior enlisted would throw you to the wolves and send you up there to give the ... How would you plan to improve weak areas to accomplish your goals? Overall no matter how many times I do a rehearsal or practice I always get stage fright. Stage fright is my weakest area I have done rehearsals and private or with one or two people but when it comes to the bigger picture I always freeze. I need to learn to speak with confidence and try to get the audience involved instead of rushing the presentation or speaking very softly so no one hears me I need to be able to let the audience know that I am confident and the information that I am sharing is worth their time to listen and learn
  • 4. Descriptionages And Disadvantages Of A Wide Area Network... Local Area Network A LAN, local area network, is a group of computers and other devices that share a wireless link to a server. A local area network is usually in a distinct location like an office where all the devices are close, hence the name local. It is used to share resources like a printer and can be used with a small group of people or a much larger one. Interconnection devices such as switches and routers are all used to connect the network to the internet. Wi Fi or Ethernet can be used to connect the network to the internet. A local area network must relate to standards and protocols. It does this as it is connected to the internet through the Wi Fi. Wide Area Network A wide area network is distributed places unlike a local area network which is local. A WAN interconnects different local area networks. A wide area network could be in companies and organisations for example, it could have connections to a company s headquarters or branch facilities. Routers are used to connect a LAN to a WAN. They are functioned to allow users to share access to applications and other services. There are various different protocols within a wide area network such as broadband access and point to point protocol. WAN s are mostly managed by a private organisation so that no other companies can get on their network however, there is open wide area networks too. The main example would be the internet. WAN technologies There are various different technologies within a WAN.
  • 5. Better Test Scores The boy attempts to come up with words for the essay to put onto the paper. While he is trying to come up with the words he is staring blankly at his laptop wishing he could use it. He knows that it would be faster to finish the essay and easier for him to come up with something, but he also knows his teacher would not allow him to do it on the computer. If schools switched from textbooks to computers students could become driven to do work simply because they are comfortable with computers. Computers can help students learn faster and in certain cases, easier. Computers can also hold multiple textbooks on just one device, It has been proven that students get better scores on test while using a computer. Computers have better resources than a textbook contains. Better test scores are better for the average student so that they can increase their grades and raise their gradepoint average. While textbooks can be heavy in large amounts computers can hold tons of textbooks... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Students are comfortable when they use technology for tests instead of pencil and paper. Many students prefer using a type of a computer or their phones while testing. Tests can also be done quicker when a student uses technology and it is possible that the grade would be better. With higher test scores a student has a better chance of passing the class and grade that they are currently in, and a student with a higher GPA could have a better chance at a scholarship. One reason for higher test scores is that students now have become accustomed to using a computer and prefer it over the regular pencil and paper tests. Everything has its flaws, but when a teacher can look at everything the students are doing on a computer those flaws are not as common. Once a student figures out that the teacher can watch everything they do, they tend to not do activities that distract them and keep themselves on
  • 6. Differences Between The Last Samurai And Satsuma Rebellion The Last Samurai vs. The Satsuma Rebellion The Last Samurai is a war film depicting Civil War veteran Nathan Algren, thrust into the middle of a conflict between a small sect of samurai and the newly formed Japanese empire after being sent over to train the empire s army. The film was inspired by the events of the 1877 Satsuma Rebellion led by Saigo Takamori. While the film retains some genuine aspects of the time period, many aspects of the film are fictionalized. This most notably includes the size of the conflict. While the rebellion was a massive conflict that exhausted the resources of the fledgling Japanese empire, the film depicts the conflict as relatively small, limiting it to only two battles. The film is, overall, an entertaining yet inaccurate depiction of the Satsuma Rebellion and the time period as a whole.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would be far more likely to see a European adviser, more specifically from either Prussia or Britten. It would also be out of place for the United States to be negotiating any terms of trade at this time as there was already a treaty out in place in 1858 that regulated trade between the two nations. Another inaccuracy would be the use of firearms within the film compared to reality. In reality not only were samurai well versed in the use of rifles (the film depicts them using only swords, spears and bows) but the newly formed Japanese army would have fairly competent with firearms as well as they had been common place in the nation over two hundred years. Algren would have more likely been helping to organize the army as opposed to showing soldiers how to use a
  • 7. What Is A Reflection On Learning And Individual Difference... During spring semester, I took a class on learning and individual difference with Dr. Tobey, in which we covered theory and research in learning and social psychology in the school environment. While we were covering a topic on neuroscience, I became fascinated with learning more and approached Dr. Tobey on any possible research opportunities. Taking my request, she referred me to Dr. Immordino Yang, who is an associate professor at Rossier, and informed me about the Brainand Creativity Institute (BCI). As will be explained later, I contacted Dr. Immordino Yang and forward me to her partner Dr. Yang on the projects they were working on. Internship Site The Brain and Creativity Institute is located on the USC campus, in the Dornsife Cognitive Neuroscience Imaging building. The BCI lab itself presents itself with glass doors and once you enter has a front desk secretary to assist with any possible questions. In the second floor of the building there are various labs where it hosts the multiple programs that the BCI has to offer. Some of the research programs that are housed in the BCI include, the Brain and music program, feelings program and the one I am involved in, the cross cultural social emotional program. In addition to having the opportunity to work in the lab, I was able to do my work at home. This privilege was given to me because most of my work entailed of coding survey responses. Activities and Work Duties When I first entered the doors of the BCI, I met with my fieldwork supervisor, Dr. Yang, who explained to me the purpose of the program and the overall mission of the BCI. Throughout our conversation, I mentioned to her my eagerness to learn more about the neuroscience field and my willingness to assist with some projects. After our meeting, she sent me various articles to read and recommended that I take notes on some specific topics that interest me. The articles related to the broader scheme of neuroscience along with some articles by Dr. Immordino Yang. The article that was highly emphasized by Dr. Yang was a study by Dr. Immordino Yang, where she looked at how learning affects two individuals who are missing one hemisphere of their brain. After looking through the articles, Dr. Yang

  • 12. Censorship Is Monitoring Or Withholding Information Essay Censorship is monitoring or withholding information. The information can come from a book, drama, media, or any other form of entertainment; but it is usually considered a threat to the consumer. Yet the consumer is not always the audience. Sometimes the threat is to a politician or government official. The debate over topics in the realm of what is acceptable and what should be banned only continues to rise as more taboo topics become acceptable. Some argue that keeping certain things behind closed doors is imperative for a harmonious living place. Others say that a small discourse is critical to remain sane. Censorshipis a way of protecting society from itself. Leaders and parental figures can make the choice to monitor what is read, watched, and consumed, but until the world lives the life worthy of a children s book the effort is futile. While the narrative being taught may be inappropriate or harsher it doesn t decrease the value of it. Arguments are shown throughout everyday life over every topic. The question isn t, When will society stop fighting the norm? The question is, When will society stop fighting change? The world evolves with every second. With that evolution society blurs the line with what is acceptable and not. Sixty years ago the idea of two boys kissing was the equivalent of burning a baby in church on a Sunday morning. Today, two men kissing is celebrated with its own parade. Social norms and ideals have been ripping down the cloak of

Since the store is right in the middle of town, banks and churches and the newspaper store can been seen from the front doors. The day is Thursday, so there is not very much business. Outside, the sun can be seen on the pavement. The main character, Sammy, is almost nineteen years old and his coworker, Stokesie, is twenty two and married. First, the short one is seen by Sammy as Updike so explains: The one that caught my eye first was the one in the plaid green two piece. She was a chunky kid, with a good tan and a sweet broad soft looking can with those two crescents of white just under it, where the sun never seems to hit, at the tops of the backs of her legs. (316) Then, Updike describes the tall one as being: [W]ith black hair that hadn t quite frizzed right, and one of these sunburns right across under the eyes, and a chin that was too long you know, the kind of girl other girls think is very striking ; and

But, after witnessing the positive impact volunteers had on the recovery of New Orleans, this influenced me to become more involved in the nonprofit sector. Nonprofit organizations provide many services to meet a community s needs. An example of a nonprofit organization can be hospitals, universities, social clubs, environmental groups and sports clubs. Communities depend on nonprofits to fill the gaps that may not be filled by the government. Because nonprofits are so vital to the world it is imperative that these organizations have proper staff to function and operate. This means that the organizational leaders must be able to recruit volunteers. This is by far not an easy task to accomplish considering the jobs that volunteers are being asked to perform are not always enjoyable or idyllic. Volunteers are asked to perform things from daily, miniscule chores to hazardous, life risking projects. Due to these harsh circumstances it can be hard for leaders to keep their volunteers motivated and willing to participate in projects that are not challenging or satisfying. This also includes responsibilities that are dull and time consuming. Social media is a free and effective way for nonprofit organizations to recruit and retain a wide variety of volunteers. The days following Katrina the world watched the news with horror as they saw an American city under water. My
  • 18. Maxine Hong Kingston By Maxine Kong Maxine Hong Kingston prides herself on her personal strength and character, as well as the ability she developed to assert herself into a culture that is not accepting of her differences. As the daughter of Chinese immigrants living in the US, she was tasked with living a double life, straddling the line between her traditional Chinese upbringing and the environment outside of her home in 1960 s California. She was in many ways a perfectly normal and intelligent child. Through her writing she is able to describe complex interactions from her childhood, detailing her reasoning and understanding of the world. Despite this cleverness and flexibility, she begins her account by describing herself as voiceless, seemingly dumb, and explains how it was that she failed kindergarten. Through this story we get a view of how an intelligent young person might experience difficulties caused by cultural differences, a unique perspective from a first generation American. In this excerpt from Woman Warrior, Kingston recounts her experiences as a young person without a voice. Her struggle is deepened by the culturally engrained xenophobia and misogyny that existed in her diverse neighborhood, as well as pressures and extreme obstacles thrown at her by her own mother. The child whom Kingston describes goes through continuous growth in finding her own identity and strength in character, but it is clear that she still carries the fear and pain created by her uniquely difficult
  • 19. Upper Class Taxes Essay The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Such a phrase has become accepted as a part of American life. A country that was built on opportunities has become complacent of the equalities that are being taken away from them and are being given to the elites. Currently there are 7 income tax brackets for heads of households ranging from 12% of $9,525 to 37% of $500,000. However, in 1978 there were 34 brackets for heads of household income tax ranging from 14% of $8,492(2,200)to 70% of $703,351.32 (182,200),adjusted for inflation. What can be observed is that there has been a decrease in the highest tax margin, once $700,000 now $500,00. as well as a 37% decrease in the highest tax, was 70% now 33%. This means that the wealthy have had their income taxes almost halved where as the lower class... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What has been effected is the increase of income polarization in the United States. The lower class continues to receive the same treatment it has been given for decades. Whereas the upper class is given more and more tax cuts saving them money. Money that could be given to support the country that has provided them with the great opportunity to create a thriving business; which is an opportunity that not even some their fellow Americans have. My proposal is to increase the number of tax brackets on higher incomes in order put more money back in to the hands of the working and lower class who provide the fuel for a healthy economy. It is found that by providing more money for the lower classes will help the economy
  • 20. Character Analysis Of Williwaw Wind Having read the book Williwaw Winds by Sally Bair, I find Jacob Bergren to be an interesting character. Generally, Jake makes morally good choices. He does anything he can to help whoever is in need. Ever since he was young his family and he volunteered on Thanksgiving preparing Thanksgiving meals for the homeless shelters (Bair 42). Another example of Jake helping others is on the boat when ice was covering all of their work. He ran downstairs to grab his dumbbells. With his pair of dumbbells Freddy and he beat away the ice and they got to work right away (60). At the end of the book when the crew is being rescued the swimmer plans to pull Jake out of the freezing water before Patrick but being the courageous person he is, Jack insists that Patrick goes first. Jake wisely made this decision based on his previous knowledge of Patrick and his fear of loss and being alone. Patrick was very afraid as the boat was going down; all he could think about was losing his father, the skipper. He already lost his mom due to cancer so I am sure the thoughtof losing his dad is constantly on the back of his head (86). By completing these actions of helping others it proves that Jake is a man of God. We know this because he recites the Bible verses that he learned from his father saying them as Jake was growing up. His motivation that inspired him to complete these actions is to travel back home to his family, now that he has come to terms with not always being the center of attention and

A New Concept Of Indonesian Domestic Worker Indonesian Migrants Writing: Crossing Borders and Proposing a New Concept of Indonesian Domestic Worker Introduction Within these past few years, Indonesian domestic workers (hereafter IDWs) have caught people s attention with the publication of their novels, short stories, and poetries. The emergence of Sastra Buruh Migran (migrant workers literature), a genre which refers to the creative writing of IDWs who work in countries such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore (Retnaningdyah 23), apparently has challenged the negative labels which IDWs have endured. In their homeland, IDWs suffer from bad stereotyping: domestic workers are nothing but physical workers who have to operate for a meagre salary, in often bad conditions. As domestic work is not considered as a formal employment, this means exclusion from the national labor legislation (Factsheet). Similarly, in her ethnographic research on Latina domestic worker, Hondagneu Sotelo asserts that people perceive paid domestic worker as under the table economy because this particular work takes place in a private home (9). Also, in the context of transnational labor market, such perception still applies for the foreign migrant workers. In IDWs case, while facing marginalization in a multiple sense, they are no stranger to stereotypes like uncivilized and stupid simply because of their short of English skills and lacking sufficient knowledge and experience to handle housework in a modern household (Lan in Loveband

  • 26. Types Of Exchange Rate During The Asian Financial Crisis Introduction An exchange rate tells you how much of one currency you can exchange for another. Generally, there are two types of exchange rate which is widely used by many countries: fixed and floating exchange rate. Nowadays, it is necessary to know what are their advantages as domestic currencies are essential to the method that economies run. But they are both not perfect. In 1973, with the collapse of the Bretton Woods system, countries that used fixed exchange rate were seriously affected and floating exchange rate rose afterward. However, there still had some debates on both fixed rate and floating exchange rate. Especially after the Asian financial crisis in 1997, the debates became more intense. A fixed exchange rate once again favored by some countries. As we can see from the history, they have benefits and drawbacks. Each of them has their own characteristics. It is not possible to determine which exchange rate is better because the choice of the appropriate one may vary from different countries. In other words, the exchange rate regime changes along with the development of the international economic environment. That is why there are some different exchange rate regimes which lies between them in reality. Developing countries that have unstable economies and politics mostly use the fixed exchange rate to guarantee their residents a normal standard of living. On the other hand, developed countries such as the U.S, Great Britain are using floating exchange because

  • 28. Analysis Of Poem Anthem For Doomed Youth By Wilfred... Throughout history, wars have been an important factor affecting many people s lives. The two sonnets Anthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred Owen and Trench Duty by Siegfried Sassoon are two tales inspired by their experiences fighting in WW1 and all the horrors that war made them experience. Both poets use different sonnetstructures, yet convey quite similar messages. In addition, these poets develop powerful images and metaphors, but in subtly different ways. Sassoon and Owen use structure, imagery and metaphor to show his audience the horrors of war and also how unfortunate going to war is. To begin both sonnets, Sassoon and Owen develop stanzas which argue how they represent all war disgraces. Sassoon s sonnet is composed by multiple heroic couplet rhymes, which makes the sonnet more fluid. This could relate to the lack of focus by part of the soldiers, as to show that everything was happening too fast in order for the soldiers to focus on anything else besides fighting: why did he do it?... Starlight overhead ( Trench 13), this is a very clear example on how soldiers cannot focus, since at the moment that the soldier starts thinking about the purpose of war, he gets distracted by a Starlight overhead ( TRENCH 13). Another really characteristic aspect of this sonnet is that it lacks of stanzas, as well as of voltas. This makes the sonnet even more fluid. Owens sonnet has a much more erratic rhyme scheme than Sassoon s. Anthem for Doomed Youth has a Petrarchan

It was a time of economic progress for Americans, which meant many people from the lower class had the opportunity to earn enough money and improve their position in society. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald , Jay Gatsby, the protagonist in the novel, came from the lower class and thought that his new wealth could win over Daisy Buchanan, who originally came from the higher class. Fitzgerald symbolizes Daisy as Gatsby s American Dream, or his success and prosperity. This eventually created conflict between the higher and lower class. The Great Gatsbyby F. Scott Fitzgerald demonstrates the difficulty of upward social mobility due to the rigid class structure, which ultimately resulted in the realization that the American Dream was unattainable to those of the lower class. In the novel, Jay Gatsby s determination to rise in class and obtain his goal, illustrates a shift in the traditional ideas prior to the 1920 s. As Gatsby gives the ambitious young reporter his life story he explains that His parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people... he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end, (Fitzgerald 98). C.Government pension or Social security system D.Self style pension or personal pension savings A.Defined benefit (DB) With a defined benefit pension, the employer takes the risk of investing the money and of having you live and collect for longer than it expects. You get guaranteed income and all that you need to do is to work, contribute and reach retirement age. Everything else is taken care of for you, including having the funds professionally managed for you. A DB pension plan promises to pay you a certain amount of retirement income for life. The amount of your pension is based on a formula that usually takes into account your earnings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Defined contribution (DC) Defined benefit pension plans frequently get replaced by defined contribution plans. Defined contribution plans, like a 401(k) or 403(b) plan, operate by having you, your employer or both put money into the plan. The money hopefully grows over time and when you retire, you can draw on that money to fund your retirement. If the money does very well, you could end up with a lot of money and generous retirement income. However, if it doesn t perform well or you don t put enough away, you could end up short of what you need for retirement. With a DC plan, contributions are guaranteed, but retirement income is not. Usually, both you and your employer contribute to the plan. Your employer may match some of the contributions you make. You are responsible for investing all contributions to grow your savings. In this way, the plan is similar to an RRSP. The amount available for your retirement depends on the total contributions made to your account and the investment returns this money earned. At retirement, you use the money in your account to generate retirement income. You can do this by: buying an annuity from an insurance company, or transferring your savings to a locked in retirement income fund (LRIF) or similar income fund designed specifically for pension

Investigating Your Community s Source Of Energy Abstract U5: M5 A1: Examining Your Community s Source of Energy The transition from fossil fuel to renewable resources would take a lot of time, money, and politics. However if we use a multi source energy network and add in the renewable resources as we slowly take out the fossil fuel ones then it will help the transition better. Powerful political skirmishes over energy sources and increasing awareness of the environmental impact of pollution are necessitating a transition to a renewable energy network. Western States being large in population and using the most resources should be first to start this transitioning stage. • 39. Questions On Real Estate Essay A title search will reveal many things about a piece of real estate. It is important that the company or individual that you use does a complete and thorough evaluation of the property in question. Ownership The title search will reflect who has a vested interest in the property. This is most likely the same entity as that shown on the propertyappraiser s records, however that is not always the case. This is why it is imperative that you find a knowledgeable individual who will research the public records and find all parties who have an interest. When previous owners or lien holders either conveyed their interest(s) out improperly, or simply neglected to get everyone s interests accounted for when they transferred the property, this creates problems with the title. Sometimes, these interests may be reflected in individuals who had owned the property several transactions before you purchased it. Another problem can be created when people die. After an individual is deceased, their will is filed of record in the state and county (for those in the U.S.) where they lived (are domiciled). This can present a problem to a searcher who is researching property in another county or state. If they are fortunate, the attorney who prepared the will knows of all the property owned by their client and will file papers accordingly to notify all interested persons. This will alert an examiner to research the ownership further. Encumbrances There are many kinds of encumbrances or

  • 41. Causes Of The Industrial Revolution By 1750, there was not much doubt that if any country was going to triumph in being the first industrial power it would be England (Hobsbawm 29). However, several factors were responsible for England s emergence as an industrial power. Some of the contributing factors for the Industrial Revolution were: the increasing importance of imperial goods such as cotton, cultural traditions that stemmed from the Renaissance and the Reformation, population change, and a government willing to subordinate all foreign policy to its economic ends. Socially, the Industrial Revolutionin England changed exponentially with the growing drift between the class hierarchy. Instead of reverting to social revolution as occurred in France, England experienced political reform during the Industrial Revolution that would become a symbol of hope for thriving countries. There has been much speculation on the exact reason the Industrial Revolution began in England in the late 18th Century, but certain components are undisputed for the Revolution s occurrence there. Initially, Britain already had a large, developed supply of coal and iron which gave the British a start in mass metallurgy (Perry 286). There also was a surplus of capital available for investments to be made in new industries; however, these funds came from wealthy landowners and merchants who had grown rich in commerce through the slave trade (Perry 287). With the start of their own capitalist industrialization, England
