This document discusses a study that empirically evaluated stages of strategic information systems planning (SISP) processes and their effectiveness. The researchers identified key dimensions of SISP processes, including comprehensiveness, formalization, focus, flow, participation, and consistency. They proposed a three-stage model of SISP evolution where these dimensions change over time. The study found that planning processes exhibiting characteristics of both rationality and adaptability tended to be more effective, providing a balanced approach. This provided implications for how organizations can improve their SISP processes and effectiveness over multiple stages of planning maturity.
