The Amputation Prevention Program at KFSHRC in Riyadh has treated over 1300 patients since starting in November 2012. The program utilizes local educational outreach, workshops, and training as well as video conferences and second medical opinions to recruit eligible Saudi patients at risk of limb amputation. Challenges include a lack of awareness, interest, and updated knowledge about the problem within the health community as well as patient expectations and distrust. The referral process involves filling out a form, attaching a patient ID, and either faxing or uploading the case for a clinic appointment within 2-3 weeks. The treatment process involves preparing and performing the procedure over 1-2 days with follow up as needed.
