4. THE BORN DIGITAL DELIVERABLE
 5,000 hours of digitized and born digital media
 Up to 59,000 fi les
 Not to exceed 5.24 terabytes af ter transcoding has occurred

5. WE HAD SOME CHALLENGES
 Lack of staf f resources at stations
 Absence of existing metadata

 C o u l d n’ t add digital instantiations to
existing assets in system
 MINT l imitations
 Bicycling hard drives
 Some stations sent access-quality fi les
 5.24 terabytes became 250+ terabytes

6. WGBH CONTRIBUTED FILES, TOO
 Sent 10,648 video fi les to Crawford
 Moved 201.6 terabytes over the network and onto 70 hard
drives
Success!

7. THINK AGAIN

rate.
 We learned the hard way
that everyday IT operations
are not good enough.

 AAPB Rights Meeting among legal counsels. . .next week!
 Preparation:
 Identified categories of content within the collection
 Identified programs within each category (pre-1964, 1965-1976, live
and recorded music, pre-1972 recordings, news footage, outtakes,
etc.)
 Created 3 minute clips from those programs
 Asked for legal documentation from stations
 Gathered case studies from other archives on access
 Gathered precedent cases and relevant copyright law
