1. General Characteristics
 Considered the biggest forest in the
world.
 About 300 000 indigenes living there.
 It is in nine different countries.
 About 5 000 000 km.
2. Climate
 Tropical climate.
 Annual average 27ºC aprox.
 No differences between winter and summer.
 In some places of the forest – 2 500 mm
annually.
 High humidity.
3. Flora
 About 30 000 different species.
 Many of them are medicinal.
 Victoria Regia is the typical plant in the amazonic
forest.
It can sizes even 2 meter long.
It opens at night and closes in the morning.
4. Fauna
 Examples:
o Mammals: Jaguar (Panthera onca), tapir (Tapirus
terrestres).
o Reptiles: Boas (many classes), Magdalena River
Turtle (Podocnemis lewyana).
o Birds: Toucan (Ramphastos), hoatzin
(Opisthocomus hoatzin).
o Amphibians: Cane toad (Rinhella Marina), blue
poison dart frog (Dendrobates azureus).
o Fishes: Piranha (Serrasalmus), electric eel
(Electrophorus electricus).
5. The Amazonas River
 Mightiest river in the world.
 Around 7000 km long.
 It was discovered in the XV century.
 It has the biggest watershed.
 It has many meanders.
6. Manatees.
 They live in the Amazonas River.
 They eat around 8 hours a day.
 They usually reproduce in January
and in June.
 They can reach even 300 kg.

 They are hunted by humans.
 Fun.
 Hunting.
 Ships.
 Global warming.
7. Jaguars.
 Biggest feline of America.
 Between 45 and 150 kg.
 Between 1,70 and 2,30 long.
