Amateur Ethnography 
Assignment 4.1
Team Knowledge Sharing in a Company 
 This is a Project Team in an Information Technology 
Company. 
2 
 The Team meets once every month to discuss ideas and 
share knowledge on matters related to the work. 
 The session is termed a “Knowledge Sharing” session. 
 It is an open forum to discuss any issues faced and also 
new learning by all team members. 
 Lots of questions are asked and everyone contributes to 
add value to the session. 
 Challenges faced by different team members are also 
addressed by the other team members.
Team Knowledge Sharing in a Company 
 Learning Theories 
3 
 First of all, Collaborative Learning was at its best in these 
sessions. Each new point was discussed, brainstormed 
and the result was a thorough understanding because of 
everyone’s contribution. 
 Moreover, Constructionism can also be considered to be 
used as practical problems and solutions were discussed 
and everyone could easily relate to these points as they 
were connected directly to the work that they did.

 Interesting Observations

 Each and every team member was given equal 
importance during the sessions. 
 The silent members were encouraged by the others to 
speak and add their views and ideas. 
 The functional leader played the role of a facilitator to 
guide and direct the discussions. 
 Everyone enjoyed participating in the discussion. 
 All team members had a feeling that they learned a lot 
from these sessions and that they were growing and 
developing their knowledge and skills.

 My Ethnographer Experience

 Not being involved in the discussions helped me observe 
everything neutrally. 
 I learnt that group learning is interesting as it gives 
multiple perspectives to the same idea which is important 
for holistic learning. 
 The level of engagement is very high in group learning, 
especially when everyone is given equal importance and 
perspectives are respected. 
 Each person is an “expert” in some domain, so everyone 
can learn from each other.
