Nelson Mandela is a Worldwide Influence
Nelson Mandela once said, There is no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life
that is less than the one you are capable of living. His life is a prime example of how passionately
he believes these words. Even though he had to undergo many hardships, such as spending twenty
seven years in prison and battling tuberculosis, he never stopped striving to make a large impact on
not only South Africa, but the world as well (Schoemaker). Nelson Mandela is a major worldwide
influence due to his key role in the transformation of South Africa from apartheid to democracy, the
numerous charities he established and supported, and his lifelong dedication to ending racial
segregation permanently in South Africa. Nelson Mandela was... Show more content on

They enforced segregation in things such as schools, hospitals, shops, and buses; with the
blacks always having the worst quality of resources. Even the laws were different depending on
skin color. If a black man was found raping a white woman, he would be sentenced life
imprisonment, while a white man found raping a black woman would receive a small fine
(Gilbert). Mandela fought against these injustices throughout his life and ended up with a life
sentence in prison. Although Mandela s jail sentence had a negative effect on the people of
South Africa, it caused the rest of the world to begin taking notice. International businesses
began boycotting South Africa in the 1980 s and young whites began voicing their opposition to
the apartheid across the world. As a result, the National Party began secret negotiations with
Mandela while he was in prison, and they began to cut back on segregation and lift the ban on
the ANC. When Mandela was released from prison in 1990, he continued on with his fight to end
segregation (Schoemaker). Mandela s main goal was to create a Rainbow Nation, in which
everyone, no matter their skin color, was free and had equal rights (Polgreen). His insistence on
forgiveness over vengeance made him a potent symbol of the struggle to end this country s brutally
codified system of racial domination, and the power of peaceful resolution in even the most
intractable conflicts, according to Lydia Polgreen.

Congenital Heart Disease Essay
1)Introduction Congenital heart diseases (CHDs) are the most prevalent of all birth defects and
the leading cause of death in the first year of life, (1) with an annual prevalence ranging from six
to twelve affected infants per 1,000 live births. (2)
Several chronic maternal medical conditions, including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, connective
tissue disorders, and congenital heart disease confer an increased risk of CHD in the offspring. (3)
Congenital cyanotic heart disease (CCHD) is a cardiac defect which facilitates complete mixing of
the deoxygenated systemic venous blood returning from the tissue and the fully oxygenated
pulmonary venous blood from the lung in a common receiving chamber. (4)
Cyanotic congenital heart defects include; Transposition of the great arteries, Truncus arteriosus,
Total anomalous pulmonary venous connection. (5)
Echocardiography is the initial diagnostic modality for a patient with suspected congenital heart
disease. In some patients, however, use of this modality is encumbered by its limited ability to
delineate great arteries and intra cardiac anomalies, pulmonary veins, and coronary arteries. (7)
Besides echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and Multi slice computed
tomography angiocardiography (MSCT) have gained particular importance. (8) The presence of
image degrading artifacts from implanted metal, such as intravascular stents and embolization coils;

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Internationalization...
3. Internationalization of production
3.1. OLI Paradigm
There are different ways in which companies can expand their activities to gain some sort of
competitive advantage. Internationalization is understood as the process of incremental
involvement in a country different from the one where business usually happens. The reasons for
companies to seek international expansion vary (Morschett 2007):
Resource seeking: the MNC is motivated to expand its operations on the supply side to other
countries or regions to secure access to resources.
Technology/talent seeking: many companies have an interest in investing abroad for the sake of
accessing to strategic assets or knowledge. This is the case for many Asian companies that even
though having a vast access to capital and investment in operations, are unable to ... Show more

The eclectic paradigm (Dunning, 1988) proposes that there are patterns determined by the
configuration of the different advantages as perceived by a company and these are the motor for
understanding internationalization. Because of more abundance in resources and knowledge,
companies have more chances of succeeding in their home markets. Therefore the main point of the
eclectic paradigm, proposes that there must exist a competitive advantage that levels the field for a
foreign company to compete with local companies and still have a chance of succeeding. These
advantages need to surpass the break even of costs for setting up operations in a foreign country.
This paradigm contrasts with modern theories of MNCs, which propose that instead of existing a
competitive advantage strong enough to motivate the internationalization of operations, the factor
behind this company behavior has to do with market failure due to high transaction costs. It is
debated whether exploiting transaction or ownership advantages leads to the most successful

How Did Classical Rome Influence The Development Of...
There were several influences the art and architecture of classical Rome had upon the
development of Christian art and architecture. According to Wikipedia (2018), early Christianity
used the same media as the surrounding pagan culture. Artistic media such as fresco sculpture and
mosaic were used. Early Christian art used Romans forms and styles too, for example, the late
classical style where that which had a portrayal of human body and one which presented space its
impression (Wikipedia, 2018). It is also noted that late early Christian frescos had some earliest
Christians art such as those in Catacombs of Rome. The Christian and Churches were firmly
introduced in 313 after the victory of Constantine who issued the Edict of Milan, allowing religious
toleration (Khan Academy, 2018). Though it was not an official... Show more content on

We also see that though most of the temples ere pagan temples, and remained in use for that
purpose until the 6th to 7th centuries when they were converted into churches. Just as I earlier said,
that Constantine was more related to this Christianity in Rome, we find that a familiar conventional
architecture was built, the basilica. This though was a church, it was more similar like former
public basilicas that served as courts and for other public purposes. The other development was on
styles of basilica which had a dome. In classical era of Rome, architecture temples were built in
honour of their gods, for example pantheon of Rome was for the gods of all Romans. In the similar
fashion, it influenced Christian architecture where martyrium was erected often over the burial on a
martyr, though these were small. It noted too that they were changed into churches or chapels in
larger churches erected adjoining or making extension to them (Wikipedia,

Emerson And Conformity
The well known essayist, Ralph Waldo Emerson, exerted his beliefs that conformity is something
that independent individuals should not participate in through out his essay of Self Reliance . The
Merriam Webster dictionary defines conformity as, behavior that is the same as the behavior of
most other people in a society, group, etc. ( Conformity ). Emerson s primary concern with
conformity was the overbearing control that society had on a free individual. I agree that we
should not change our morals and values if pressured from outside forces. However, society, even
though it is merely a concept created by the human brain, is something that holds a country together.
Without society, people would make everyday life very complicated and chaotic.The... Show more

Emerson is trying to explain here that each individual is responsible for accepting information.
Emerson would argue that no one can force any ideas in which you do not agree because they are
not sacred or viewed with accuracy by your own mind. However, when people disagree, they
should not have any feelings of remorse because to be individualistic, the person must outline
what he or she believes and stick to it. I agree with Emerson on the behalf of religious morals
because as a Christian, we are called to keep to our faith, Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep
your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result,
their faith has been shipwrecked (New Living Translation Bible Tim. 1.19). Here, the Bible is
showing that sticking to faith and having a Christian outlook on life is necessary. Without these
foundations in our walk with God then our faith in God will be skewed. So sticking to
something that we believe in is a depiction of Emerson s viewpoint. However, I have internal
conflict with Emerson on the basis of nothing is accepted but that in which we believe. The
influential David Meyers showed us that in group bias is basically the acceptance or support of
some group(s) (100). Meyers gives us a great example that not everything that we accept has to be
accepted by our own mind. There are in group biases in which all humans connect to even though
we are oblivious to them most of the time. For example, we might connect more with people of our
race because as a in group bias, those are the people we are around more often. This is not a racist
standpoint but rather an immediate connection with someone who we unknowingly think is similar
to us. Conformity is something that Emerson despises throughout his essay and it crucial to
understand why nonconformity is disliked in

Components Of Engineering Design And Analysis
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1. ENGINEERING MATERIALS Materials are an important
aspect of engineering design and analysis. The importance of engineering materials can be noted
from the fact that historical ages have been named after materials. Materials Science forms the basic
foundation for engineers in product development because the structures, components, and devices
that design are limited by the properties of the materials. In the customer driven competitive
business environment, the product quality is of paramount importance [1]. The product or end
application quality has been found to be influenced by the engineering design, type of materials
selected and the processing technology employed. Therefore, the importance of engineering
materials and their process techniques are art of today s engineering world. There are wide
categories of materials available which have shown their potential in various engineering
applications ranging from aerospace to household. The materials are usually selected by
considering their properties, specific application areas, advantages and limitations. The challenge
for designers is to select an optimal material suitable for the specific design requirements. The
complex design need in modern science generally lead to development of newer materials to meet
the specific operating conditions and regimes [1]. The new materials are today developed from the
conventional materials by both structural and surface (extrinsic) modifications. In

Dogs Rule, Cats Drool
Dogs are happy to see you no matter what kind of mood you re in. Everyday when I come home
from school my dog, Nemo, is there to greet me at the door by jumping on me and licking my
face. I could ve had an amazing, miserable, tired, or content day and the jumping still continues.
Canines are loyal friends and the relationship between dogs and humans goes way back. Dogs are
better than cats because they assist humans and show more affection.
Dogs have been domesticated for as long as 135,000 years which makes cats seem fairly new to
the household. Both dogs and cats were originally used for reasons that benefited human work.
Now a days, dogs are far more useful with job skills. When I was little, I used to live outside. Not
literally, but just in the sense that I was an outdoors kind of child. I enjoyed helping my dad with
household projects and was ecstatic when I found out he would build a tree house for me. While
he built the major part of it with dangerous equipment, I put myself in charge of collecting sticks to
try and help my father put it together. Sooner or later, Nemo, my dog, was running back and forth
with sticks in his mouth helping me collect what I needed.
Canines have the ability to serve as seeing eye dogs, firedogs, service dogs or just a playful, loyal
companion. The closer the dog and human s relationship is, the stronger the feelings between them
are. Canines have a talent of recognizing dangerous situation and being there for humans in their

Analysis Of Tarzan Of The Apes
Tarzan of the Apes began it all for Edgar Rice Burroughs, propelling him into the world of literature
with no understanding how he happened to succeed in becoming ranked among the finest adventure
story authors. His stories set the stage of adventure story telling through his narrative efficiency in
their construction, capturing and keeping the audience s imagination (Gioia, 2014; Bartlett, 2017).
Although from humble beginnings published as a pulp fictionadventure, there is much debate over
categorising Tarzan of the Apes into a specific genre, as some argue elements of romance and
science fiction. This essay aims to assess the text to determine how it engages in its primary genre
of adventure fiction, and how it may fit in and engage... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adventure novels are highly controlled and contained narrative form, while also containing writing
of excess and exaggeration. This is evident in Burroughs language and writing style. Tarzan is
written to be straightforwardly linear and literal with no room for interpretations. It s wordy and
repetitious, which could be due to the fact that pulp fiction writers were paid by the length of their
stories, but the short sentence lengths used to describe action is a key element of identifying a text
for the adventure genre (Bartlett, 2017; Easthope, 1991; Cawelti, 1976)). This literal telling of
action can be shown through the telling of Tarzan s battle with Bolgani, the huge gorilla:
But the boy had learned in that brief second a use for his sharp and shining toy, so that, as the
tearing, striking beast dragged him to earth he plunged the blade repeatedly and to the hilt into its
breast.
The gorilla, fighting after the manner of its kind, struck terrific blows with its open hand, and tore
the flesh at the boy s throat and chest with its mighty tusks. Burroughs, p. 42
Adventure stories focus on plot development over character development, steering away from
existential writings to concentrate on pure action. Gelder (2004) explains Characters are
developed only in so far as the service the story and realize the sense of danger . The explicit action
in Tarzan of the Apes describing the constant struggle of surviving the

The Pros And Cons Of The Military Service
Although many people are familiar with the heroic conscientious objector, World War II American
Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, very few people are familiar with the names of recent
conscientious objectors. In fact, in an all volunteer force that exists in the United States military
today, some would be shocked to learn that about 60 members of the military still apply for to be a
conscientious objectoreach year. While numerous military members and United States civilians
agree that it is outrageous for a volunteer to the military to decide they cannot fight in a war they
enlisted to participate in, this does not fully encapsulate the issue at hand. The Military Service is
incentivized, offering a career, education, and life long benefits; thus, some will volunteer for
Military Service without deeply considering the ethics of service and their personal convictions;
moreover, the nature of war causes man to struggle with the morality after deployment, resulting in
a conviction arriving late into one s career. Therefore, when faced with unresolved conflict of

Macbeth And The Grave Diggers In Hamlet By William...
The scene takes place in the most suspenseful moment of the play. There has been a series of
tragic scenes before the grave digger scene. Polonius is killed by Hamlet in Claudius s bed
chamber and as a result Claudius orders Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to prepare to take Hamlet
with them to England. Ophelia goes mad and soon Laertes arrives with mob. Soon Hamletsends
back letters to Horatio and the king that he is coming. So when the audience waits to see the
ultimate outcome of all these happenings the two grave diggers come on the stage and engage
themselves in a legalistic chop logic. Thus the grave diggers provide a broad comic relief to an
otherwise deadly serious and grim tragedy. The occasional admission of comic ingredient in a
tragedy or comic relief is used to calm down the tragic feeling momentarily in order to make it
more intensifying. Though Aristotle in his Poetics does not make allowance for the dilution
series action, the Elizabethan dramas are replete with instances of the combination of the comic
and the tragic elements. This tendency of using the comic in tragedy and its final canonization
also became popular in Shakespeare. The comic relief is a regular feature in Shakespeare. The part
played by fool in Kinglear, porter in Macbeth is the same as the apart played by the grave diggers in
Hamlet.

Privileged Insights Of The Mind By Derek Steen Essay

Dwight D. Eisenhower s Leadership During World War II
This world of ours . . . must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be,
instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect ( Dwight D. Eisenhower ). As a military
leader during World War II, Dwight D. Eisenhower understood the importance of mutual trust and

leader: he helped make decisions in Washington during the beginning of the war, he helped plan

who were affected by the decisions allowed Eisenhower to remain influential with the people
continually following his commands. For example, when Eisenhower ordered a soldier to hold a
position, the soldier would not willingly surrender unlike some soldiers during the war. He also
understood what was happening and the fallout certain decisions could cause in a way that gave
him the ability to make calls that boosted the Allies. With every good call he made came the
opportunity to make another decision. Eisenhower s qualities made him a leader with a lot of
influence during the

What Has Been Gone After The War Essay
Let me tell you a little about what s been going on since the war s been going on. When he first
left I just stayed in the house and cooked and did things I would normally do. Then a couple
weeks after he was gone, I got a job. More employment opportunities opened for women. I got a
job where he used to work. At a factory where we lived. Women became the main population of
the factories, and women s movement progressed. The only bad thing about working was that I
got lower pays then my husband. Soon African Americans started showing up. They also got
recruited a bunch of jobs. Finally the war ended. It was November 11th, 1918 at 11:00 am. I woke

But we still didn t have our money that was lost in the bank.
In 1920 the United States added the eighteenth amendment. Which outlawed the production and
consumption of alcohol and was more commonly known as Prohibition. In 1923 we got a
telephone. This was very exciting for all of us. We ve never seen anything like this before.
Probably because we live out in the middle of nowhere. We couldn t figure out how to use it for a
couple of days. But then we finally figured it out. Then in 1925 we moved from
Savannah,Georgia to Casper,Wyoming. This was a very long journey for my husband, two
kids, and I. We had to travel by our car. It was small but it was just enough room for the four of
us. We had to sell some stuff that we had and get money for it. We also had to leave some stuff in
Georgia. It took us around two days to get there. We only stopped for food twice, because we have
limited amounts of money. And we had to save most of it for the house.
Finally we got to where we need to be. It was the most beautiful place we ve ever seen. We lived
here for the rest of our lives. My husband passed away at age 83 and I passed away at age 84 we
lived the happiest life ever. My kids both got married my oldest son Jack to a beautiful lady

stable. These are the dried forms of niosomes. Zidovudine proniosomal gel was prepared of
different formulation. The permeation studies were carried using rat abdominal skin. Higher
percentage release was achieved using the Span 20 i.e., 97.55%В±1.1. Effect of lecithin and effect
of non ionic surfactants was carried out. The higher percent entrapment efficiency was achieved to
F1 formulation of about 74.70%. There was no effect of cholesterol concentration. As the lecithin
concentration was increased the percent drug release also increase but only at a certain extend. At
the certain limit surfactant concentration also increases the drug release. By using the proniosomes

complications. In exchange for their efforts, prisoners received a small amount of bread. They were

Harley Davidson And The Motorcycle Industry
History:
Foundation:
It all started in Milwaukee, Winsconsin in 1903 when William Harley, Walter and Arthur Davidson
created their first Harley Davidson in their family building. Harley Davidson and the motorcycle
industry wasn t a big company until after the Second World War. Many people rode motorcycles
during the war, with Harley Davidson themselves becoming the major supplier not only for the
U.S. military but other allied forces as well during this time. Many veterans chose to purchase
motorcycles upon returning home, as they enjoyed riding during the war and wanted to continue
riding in their civilian life. This generation quickly became the main target audience for many of
Harley Davidson s marketing efforts and main target for buyers as by 1956, Indian Motorcycles
declared bankruptcy and stopped producing motorcycles altogether, leaving only Harley as a major
producer and seller of motorcycles.
Harley Davidson Today and the challenges:
The motorcycle industry offers products which can be viewed as luxuries or wants as opposed to
necessities. Harley Davidson owns Buell motorcycle and Harley Davidson financial services.
Harley Davidson now holds 55 percent of the entire U.S. motorcycle market, and an even higher
share in the U.S. heavy motorcycle market. This is the result of increasing investment in R D.
Harley Davidson now has over 6,000 employees. Harley Davidson has benefited from a segment of
the U.S. market which enjoys recreational riding. This isn t

The Control Of Mind Control In 1984 By George Orwell
In the novel 1984 George Orwell demonstrates how the government maintains power through
mind control and manipulation of the masses. Orwell hints that when the government (Big
Brother), holds too much power they become crooked and devious towards the rest of the
population. In a nutshell Orwell is conveying that a corrupt government destroys all chances for
an ideal society. Collectively, George Orwell made a prediction of what was going to happen,
and it has become a reality to some extent. Overall this is a great book for the current political
state. As Lewis Beale states in his CNN article nearly all public and private places have large TV
screens that broadcast government propaganda, news and approved entertainment. But they are
also two way monitors that spy on citizens private lives. Today websites like Facebook track our
likes and dislikes, and governments and private individuals hack into our computers and find out
what they want to know. Then there are the ever present surveillance cameras that spy on the
average person as they go about their daily routine . The first clear example occurs with the
posters with the words Big Brother is Watching You (page 5). This is clear evidence that the
government is watching over its people. Shortly afterwards we learn of the Thought Police , who
snoop in on conversations sort of like how the government does today, and always watch your every
move (surveillence cameras) controlling the acts and thoughts of the people.

Environmental Exploring And The Environmental Effects Of...
For centuries, production and absorption of carbon dioxide was in balance with the ecosystem
however, in the last century, human activity has caused detrimental effects to the earth s
atmosphere due to the consequential changes in earth s natural feedback mechanism. This problem
ultimately originated from the industrial revolution in the 18th century where as a result caused the
constant production and burning of fossil fuels which has presently caused the warming of earths
surface. This is ultimately a result of by the greenhouse effect ...which is caused by the interaction
between earth s atmosphere and incoming radiation from the sun. Greenhouse gases primarily
consist of carbon dioxidehowever others such as ...water vapour, methane, and nitrous oxide... are
also associated to the greenhouse effect. Scientifically, solar radiation passes through the
atmosphere to the surface of earth, where it is absorbed and then radiated upward as heat is the
result of the high emission of greenhouse gases. The most substantial and common way of emission
is through the burning of fossil fuels in cars, factories and electricity production. Therefore, human
activities over the past century has ultimately caused the more recent problem of the effects global
warmingis posing to our ecosystem and planet.
Currently, statistics have proven global warming to be a global real crisis that requires an
immediate solution. Through the scientific aid in earth orbiting satellites, it has allowed

How Is Curley Presented by Steinbeck in of Mice and Men Essay
How is Curley presented by Steinbeck in Of Mice and Men? Curley is one of Of Mice and Men
s major characters. Although he does not appear to hold a central role, he is very important in
other respects. The first of these is the way in which he treats George and Lennie, and the ranch
workers in general on the ranch. Curley is the boss son. Therefore he acts like he is the boss
himself. He orders the others around, and, although it is true that he does hold some power on the

they are them below him, and often trying to pick fights. Curley is disliked by pretty much

Curley refuses to let her talk to anyone on the ranch, isolating her from everyone and setting the
stage for trouble. This trouble happens in Section 3, where he accuses Slim of being with his
wife and is completely wrong. He is ganged up on by the ranch workers, and picks on Lennie in
order to vent his anger at being picked on. This turns out to be a mistake. Lennie quickly crushes
his hand, and Curley has to be taken to the hospital. Luckily for George and Lennie, Slim comes
to there aid, telling Curley your hand got caught in a machine . He makes a big show of keeping
his hand soft to caress her, yet also visits the local whorehouse on Saturday night. While he may
strut around the ranch because of his position as the boss son, he obviously cannot satisfy his
wife and is mean, or perhaps simply detached from her. Curley beats up any man who dares to
talk to her, but ironically, he rarely talks to her himself, and they spend the majority of the book
looking for each other. When Curley s wife dies, Curley, rather than showing the reaction that
would be expected of a man whose wife has just been killed. He does not appear to grieve at all in
any way, barely looking at the body, or regarding the her death into his immediate future plans.
Instead, his first thought is towards seeking revenge and hunting down Lennie. It is perhaps this
moment in the novel which epitomises the way in which Curley is aggressive, nasty, and shows no

Airline Passenger Bill of Rights
In 2006 the FlyersRights.org was formed by Kate Hanni because she and her family were
stranded for 9 hours on the tarmac in Austin, Texas. They were not allowed to leave the aircraft
and were forced to endure the heat and smells filling the cabin from the on board lavatories. The
passenger Bill of Rights was not new at that time, FlyersRights.org stated The bill, which had
been stalled in Congress since at least 1999, allows passengers the option of getting off delayed
planes after 3 hours on the ground, and requires airlines to provide adequate food, water,
temperature controls, ventilation and working toilets to accommodate a 3 hour delay
(FlyersRights.org, 2013). Due to Kate Hanni s persistence her congressman Democrat Mike
Thompson introduced legislation which would force airlines to allow passengers to deplane after 3
hours on the tarmac. In 2007 Democrat Senator Barbra Boxer and Republican Senator Olympia

this bill s intent is To amend title 49, United States Code, to ensure air passengers have access to
necessary services while on a grounded air carrier and are not unnecessarily held on a grounded air
carrier before or after a flight, and for other purposes (The Library of Congress, 2013). The major

Molar Mass Case Study
Molar mass is the sum of the masses of each atoms in a compound or element. For example,
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) , a gas that is a combination of carbon and oxygen, has a molar mass of
approximately 44.01 g/mol. The unit that we ll be using in molar mass is g/mol and it is read as
grams per mole. The table on the right side is the list of the atomic masses of elements that are
commonly used in solving problems. If you think that atomic massand molar mass is just the same
then you got it wrong. Molar mass and atomic mass is very different to each other. Atomic mass is
just the mass of an atom that is denoted by amu.

Black Death Dbq
Prior to the 14th century, the Crusades were dominating the political system of Europe.
However, the new era paved the way for a new political conflict, the Hundred Year War (1337
1453). At the center of every war is always the dispute over territories, and it was no different in
the Hundred Years War. The conflict over territories was based on who held the legitimate rights to
the French throne. Unfortunately solving the conflict was difficult because of medieval legality
which stated that one king could be the vassal of another king if the first inherited land outside his

Millions of people suffered a painful death because the plague had no cure. This would eventually
lead to a rapid and devastating decrease in the population. The plague s symptoms were tumorous
outgrowth at the roots of the thigh and arms and simultaneously bleeding ulcerations. Initially, it
was said that the plague began in China and traveled along a well known trade route and found its
way to place like Cairo, Florence, and England. What makes the Black Death a tragedy was how
unequipped the society was to handle the outbreak. Symptoms were a mystery, and doctors
would often give into performing dangerous and unsanitary procedures on patients.
Unfortunately, Paris was the hardest city hit and more than half the population died, mainly the
children and poor. In other parts like east Normandy, an alleged 70 to 80 percent of the
population perished. The plague also affected those who were not sick, families had to separate
from their sick loved one, and in Florence people had their clothing and jewelry regulated. A lack
of understanding about the plagued created distress amongst the society. In fact, people believed
the plague was a divine punishment because of their sins and the only way to end the sickness
was asking for God s forgiveness. Rumors also placed the blame on the Jewish community, and
thousands of Jews were massacred. In the end, the plague affected everyone, no matter the social

Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Essay
Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
When reading The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost, I found that it was personal, especially to
the author. The fact that it was written in first person form helped me to conclude that it was
probably about the author. I think the reasoning behind his writing of this poem was because in
life, you have many obstacles to overcome and many choices and decisions to make, which opens
a path that leads the way to your future. Since those things relate to Frost, I think it motivated him
to write this poem on a personal basis, like a short autobiography on his life. It motivated him
because he could then tell others about his life and give advice and guidance to the people that read
his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thing that always holds true though, is that the major issues people s lives are always
ironically similar to each other or, at least can relate to them in many ways. Therefore, I found that
this poem not only symbolizes or relates to the author, but it also symbolizes or holds true to
almost everybody s lives.
One of the major symbols within this poem is the roads. When he says Two roads diverged in a
yellow wood, he is using the roads to symbolize the paths, choices, and decisions that he has to
make in his life. Those decisions guide the way to his future, because when you come to a two way
street or road you have to decide or make a choice on which path to take. Also when he says And
sorry I could not travel both And be on traveler, he is telling us how he is insecure on which road
to take because he is unsure of what s ahead and would like to travel both roads to come up with
a conclusion or a decision on the correct road to take. So overall, what road basically symbolizes
in this poem is the options that he has in his life and the decisions that he has to make.
Another symbol in this poem is the many observations that he makes. When he says long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth, he is using his
observations to symbolize the brainstorming, analyzing, and thinking you have to do before or
ahead of time when you are offered two options in your life and only one path to take.

Factors Affecting The Environment Of A Watershed
Introduction: Environmental issues caused by such human activities as farming, agriculture and
infrastructural development can negatively affect the abiotic factors of the local environment. This
can disturb water equilibrium and pose implications on the biodiversity of a watershed. Various
forms of pollution, including runoff and erosion, can interfere with the health of its aquatic
habitats. The purpose of this lab report is to observe to what extent the abiotic factors of Yellow
Creek correspond with the health status of its ecosystem. This will be done by comparing the
levels of turbidity and acidity and the corresponding level of impairment to four other water streams
in the greater Toronto area.
Research Question: How can the abiotic factors of a watershed such as acidity and turbidity
indicate the health of Yellow Creek?
Background information: Abiotic factors are nonliving, physical and chemical aspects of the
environment. (Rutherford, 2015) The pH level is a quantitative measure of the hydrogen ions
representing the acidity or alkalinity of a water solution. Aquatic life prefer water that has an
acidic level of around 6.5 8.5 pH. pH levels higher than 8.5 become highly basic, while pH levels
below 6.5 become highly acidic for water quality. This does not allow the species to regulate basic
life sustaining processes, primarily the exchanges of respiratory gases and salts within the water in
which they live.

The British did not took over the world by chance, they took over the world because they had the
most advanced technologies by the time. Their weapons were the best in the world. In 1917, the
German propaganda cartoon described the British as, the Bloodsucker of the world (Document
10). Meaning they are setting colonies everywhere around the globe and is ruling many parts of
the world. A map that illustrates the colonial possessions was shown. Under the map, Colin
Nicolson provided a chart of the size of colonial empire in 1913. In 1913, Britain was the biggest
colonial empire. Its area was 33,000,000 sq. km. and has up to 400,000,000 of population.
These numbers by far passes the second largest empire, France. In 1913, France s land area was
11,500,000 sq. km and has only 56,000,000. In this time period, France was one of the most
powerful country. However, if France was compare to Britain, it would be not even half the size of
Britain. (Document 11). The power of Britain have forced other countries to fight more because

Satan s Pity in Paradise Lost
O Hell! Satan s opening exclamation of frustration immediately alerts readers to Satan s state of
mind. As Satan gazes on Adam and Eve, he is struck by their blissful state, which sends him into a
spiral of confusion as he slightly reconsiders his plan to destroy them. To himself, Satan addresses
the pair; he begins regretful and with pity for Adam and Eve. He later shifts in tone to vengeful,
envious, and angry. Further exemplifying Satans contrasting attitudes, Milton uses antonymous
words of emotion throughout the passage. By the end of passage, Milton solidifies Satan s
hardening of heart and ends the struggle that has been festering inside Satan since his first act of
rebellion against God. Milton successfully uses both the shift in tone and the emotional diction to
reveal Satan s stormy internal conflict.
Throughout the passage, Milton inserts beautifully emotional words that describe Satan s
contrasting feelings: grief and joy, woe and bliss, loathing and delight. The positive feelings that
Satan expresses, though describing Adam and Eve s state, reflect the good nature in Satan. That
nature is visibly small, as Satan describes himself as joyful or blissful. He merely observes this
happiness in Adam and Eve; he even speaks the words with hints of regret. The negative words
have a much more powerful effect: Satan uses these words to describe his own feelings and his
own domain, Hell. The feelings of grief, woe, and loathing are his, not Adam and Eve s, and thus

Whale Rider Themes
There is also a clear theme across New Zealand films relating to family related issues, including
acceptance from relatives and what some young people do to gain it. The 2002 film directed by
Niki Caro, Whale Rider, is centered around Paikea, a young girl who was rejected by her
grandfather as the leader of their community due to her gender. She seeks his approval, though he is
reluctant to help her due to the culture s traditions. Such approval seeking is prevalent amongst
New Zealandfilm, notably in the 2010 film by Taika Waititi, Boy. The main character, named Boy,
is reunited with his father, Alamein, whom he idolises and tells stories about to kids at his school.

Human Resource Is Defined As The People Who Constitute
Human resource is defined as the people who constitute an organization s workforce (employees).
Human Resource Management is defined as a function in the organization that is designed to

Southwest Airlines was initially created to serve as a low cost carrier, whose costs were structured
to compete with bus and car transportations. The low cost strategy meant that, unlike other high
priced carriers, the airline did not offer any food, movies, set reservations, or first class. The
unique market approach created a new niche, which led to the organization s fast growth. The
airline s main agenda was to offer air travel opportunities to customers who could not initially
afford it. The simple market approach, with a motivated workforce has made Southwest airline s
market value to be greater than all other airlines in the country combined. The merger between
Southwest Airlines and AirTran is being considered to be the first major merger between Low Cost
Carriers. AirTran runs on a similar strategy to that of Southwest Airlines. AirTran is ranked the
second largest low cost carrier airline in the market. The merger is expected to affect the initial
strategies of the two airlines, by stretching their limits towards a more complicated model. This may
affect Southwest s competitive advantages of employee focus,

The Characteristics Of Impactful Leadership In Jackson Vs....
1. E. Bronson Ingram was known for his strong leadership in both the business world and through
his philanthropic efforts. Describe which leadership characteristics you believe to be essential for
creating greater opportunities at the intersection of entrepreneurship and high impact philanthropy.
Andrew Carnegie once claimed that No man becomes rich unless he enriches others. Carnegie,
alongside other captains of industry, such as Cornelius Vanderbilt, pioneered the pairing of
entrepreneurship and philanthropy, through inspiring leadership. He witnessed the poverty and
destitution of the time and led both the business and philanthropic communities, alike, in the effort
to better society. He was an entrepreneurial and philanthropic leader due to his commitment to his
vision and his continual recognition of the potential he had to thwart society s injustice and
misdeeds. Consequently, with an undying commitment to one s endeavors, as well as constant
recognition of what one can do in order to combat the wrongs of the world, true, impactful
leadership can form at the intersection of philanthropy and entrepreneurship.
Without commitment, no vision can come to fruition. Great tasks require great dedication.
Especially when balancing both entrepreneurship and philanthropy, commitment is integral to every
endeavor. For example, without Steve Job s commitment to becoming a revolutionary innovator, the
devices we hold in our hands everyday would be nonexistent, as would be his charitable and
humanitarian efforts. However, with ardent fervor he thrived in entrepreneurship, founding the
world s most well known tech company, and, subsequently, philanthropy, donating many of the
funds that he raised to noble causes. Dedication was his key to success, putting his whole heart in
every task that he undertook. Thus, in order to maximize the opportunities at the crossroads of
philanthropy and entrepreneurship, this undying pursuance is necessary for successful leaders.
Furthermore, recognition of one s abilities to affect positive change is intrinsic to leading any
mission. The ability to perceive, beyond oneself, is the key to locating and targeting a problem with
success. For entrepreneurship and philanthropy to thrive

Loyalty In The United States Army
According to the Army, Loyalty is to bear true faith and allegiance to the U.S. constitution, the
Army, and other Soldiers. Loyal means to be devoted, faithful, and trustworthy. Therefore, no matter
what situation you find yourself in at wartime or peacetime you have to be faithful, trustworthy,
and devoted to the nation, the people and its customs and traditions. For instance, if I were going
through a financial problem and a foreigner came up to me and offered to pay me lump sum of
money to give them information that are considered classified. Instead of me accepting the easy
way out to get out of debt I would report him to the authority and my chain of command to prevent
myself from committing unlawful act and putting my comrades and my country in danger.... Show

Freight Quote
eShippers What to Look For In a Freight Quote Before Tying the Knot You have a shipment that
is ready to leave your warehouse: It is time to get some freight quotes. But how will you know
when you ve found the freight quote for you? Some low freight quotes are wickedly tantalizing,
but they are just not backed up with a solid fleet of trucks, a new fashioned tracking system, and
established relationships with stakeholders at each stage of the process. So How Do You Find The
Freight Quote You Want To Commit To? Your freight quote should be complete, meaning that all
parts of the logical process have been assigned a quote, which ends up as part of the freight quote s
total. If you are shipping freight from America to England, you need to check that all domestic

Remember, your shipper will be paying out most of the amount you pay them to other parties.
Does your freight quote including international shipping insurance? While many shipping
companies leave this cost off of their freight quote, it should be included as part of the cost of
moving your goods. Even if your shipment is all packed up and ready to go, there may be some
packing materials that will be necessary as your freight moves towards it destination, and, if so,
this cost should be listed. This Freight Quote Has Everything. I Think I Am In Love. One more
thing. If a freight quote seems too good to be true, it probably is. Shippers who take outstanding
care of your products will not be able to do so for cost that is wildly lower than other freight
quotes. So, do your homework: Compare several freight quotes before you decide that it is time to
tie the knot. And make sure that the freight quote that catches your eye comes from an established
shipper, like eShippers, who have been around for more than 18

Intelligence Test and Gifted Requirements Essay
Intelligence Test and Gifted Requirements
The Gifted program exists to provide more academic opportunities for those who qualify as gifted.
Gifted means performing or demonstrating the potential for performing at significantly higher
levels of accomplishment in one or more academic fields due to intellectual ability, when compared
to others of similar age, experience, and environment (Quoted in Gifted ). In order to make it into
the program the student must show higher intellectual ability than the average student at his or her
age, but what determines that factor? The student must take a multidimensional test and score in
the 98th percentile. However, the most weighted part of the test remains an average IQ test. ... Show

She states, In my 24 years as a gifted facilitator, there have been a handful, (3 5) students whose IQ
tests did not accurately reflect their intelligence. She also informed that if a student is close to
making the cut, they are given a second test in a year or two (Sebelius 1). Intelligence tests should
not remain the primary qualification to gain admittance in the gifted program because it allows
minorities and the economically disadvantaged to remain underrepresented in the program. The
minorities and the economically disadvantaged tend to score lower than the average gifted student;
as a result, they fail to gain admittance when they have actually proven qualified. The tests also
effect how they are feeling (sebuleus). If under privileged students feel negatively about their
situation it may affect the score of their test. Under their circumstances, they are not presented with
the same opportunities as other gifted students due to financial or environmental problems. These
problems can alter their psychological state ultimately undermining their score. However, they do
better on the test overall, as opposed to just the IQ segment of the test, but the IQ test still remains
more heavily weighted than other means of testing, when those other means of testing play a more

The International Labour Organization and Its Attempt to...
Introduction This essay will look at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and its attempts
to alleviate child labour up until now. Firstly, a definition of child labour will be provided after
which an introductory overview will be given about the ILO s activities against child labour.
Thereafter, a critical assessment will be provided regarding the ILO s steps against child labour,
and some major problems will be highlighted regarding the ILO s approach to eliminate child
labour. Defining Child Labour Mowing the lawn, washing the car and dishes, or cleaning the
kitchen are the types of tasks that most children dislike to do. However, tasks such as these are
not defined as child labour. Generally speaking, child labour is defined as something along the
lines of: Labour that exploits children and restricts their mental and physical development , and
thus household chores, in most cases, cannot be considered to be a form of child labour. However,
labour that is not appropriate for children, such as working with dangerous machinery, mining, or
work that exposes children to sexual abuse, can be defined as child labour. This is due to the fact
that, in situations like the ones described, children are exposed to exploitation and to circumstances
that are detrimental to their physical and mental health. That being said, labour in itself is not
considered to be necessarily a bad thing for children, since it can provide them with many learning
opportunities. For example,

Knights Impact On Society
Many kings formed armies using feudalism. One way of gathering an army, was through their
nobles. Since the nobles received land from the monarch, they were obliged to get the knights
the king had asked for ( What was the impact 2). To gather the amount of knights the lords were
told to gather, the lords gave land to sub tenants ( What was the impact 2). And to lure knights
into service, they were offered incentives. Knights received incentives in return for their service.
One of the things they were given was wealth. Knights pledged loyalty and military services to a
lord in exchange for clothes, food, a home (sometimes in the castle), other manor made items, and
wealth (Beil 14 15). These gifts were called fiefs. Some knights were given land as... Show more

Also, when receiving land, the lord received power over the peasants of that village. Knights
also got support, a share of the treasure and goods that were taken in battle, and a sort of
insurance. This insurance was that if he died, his children were protected until the girl married
and the boy became a vassal, and that the widow and the land were protected (Smith 3). Also
appealing to would be knights was the rise in status. Knights were given a fief, often land,
making them a vassal, and therefore a lord (Beil 15). Knights were considered to be like the rock
stars of their time as they were well off and thought as honorable, chivalrous, and wealthy (Nardo
29). Because of this they were sought after by high class ladies looking for a husband, and by
troubadours who looked for the heroes of their songs (Nardo 31). Because of these advantages,
the feudal oath became a political tool where it previously had been a vow of military duty (Beil
9). It was understood that if he did not uphold his promise it would all be taken back. (Beil 15).
However, knights did not only gain as they also had to work or their king/lord. A common time

Comparison Of Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief Movie Vs Book
Some people say movies are the way to the heart, but have you ever read a book? Books are way
more descriptive than movies because they add so many more important details. Movies are not
as descriptive because they try squishing an eleven hour reading into a two hour screening.
Finally, movies always leave out important scenes and characters. On the other hand movies are
pretty cool because they do have some pretty creative images that you would have never imagined
before. The book version of Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief is better than the movie version
because the book includes characters like Ares, Cerberus, and the Three Kindly Ones. The first
important character to the story is Ares for many reasons. First reason is he stole Hades s... Show

Cerberus is a super nice dog that is super cute. He is also the creature who guards the entrance to
the underworld. Finally, Cerberus loves Annabeth, is her friend, and obeys her commands.
Even though he is a cool character, he is not the most important to the storyline. He still adds
detail to the storyline though, because he guards the underworld so people who aren t supposed
to be in the underworld get in. As you can see, Cerberus is an important character to the story.
Finally the Three Kindly Ones are important to the story for a variety of reasons. First, one of
them is Mrs. Dodds his old Pre Algebra teacher. Second, they won t stop trying to kill Percy
Jackson. Finally, after they get killed they come back to life. They aren t as important as other
characters because they didn t even hurt Percy once. That shows they are in the story but not
necessarily important to the storyline, but they are still fun to read about. Ms. Dodds is the only
one that is very important to the storyline, that s why she is in the movie too. However, they do
work for Hades and he wants them to get the helm for him. Even though they didn t hurt Percy they
still scared him and attacked many times, which makes the book more interesting. That s why the
Three Kindly Ones make the book more

Escalation Of Conflict
The escalation of conflict is not the only problem the increased number of private military
contractors bring. These contractors have a different object and priority than the stationed troops
in conflicts. The contractor s number one priority is protecting their asset, as the private
corporations know that if the important figure they are assigned to protect gets captured or killed,
it would be devastating for the business and most likely they would lose the funding the
government provides. Since the priority of the contractors is to keep the asset safe, they will often
be very aggressive, securing perimeters and stopping any vehicles that get too close. There has been
many cases where the private contractors shoot at cars to stop them,... Show more content on

Former Blackwater contractor Jerry Zovko has stated that: The company (Blackwater) personnel
had large amounts of cocaine and blocks of hashish and would run around naked. He continued,
stating that often the guards would step out into the balcony and point their automatic rifles at
Iraqi buildings, opening fire. However, this kind of behavior is not limited the Blackwater, as in
2005 a trophy video was posted by contractors affiliate with Aegis Defense Services, showing
presumable Irish and Scottish contractors shooting randomly at Iraqi civilians. Not only does this
showcase the complete lack of civilians lives, but shows these private military forces has no
supervision representing the American and foreign troops and often are very careless, shown
through their rampant drug usage and careless trigger discipline, which is the reality of the
contractors behavior. These contractors often operate out the judicial system, making them above
the law. Laws such as the Coalition Provisional Authority Order Number 17 states that Iraqi laws
and regulations do not apply to contractors makes it extremely difficult to prosecute. These legal
exemptions create a lack of responsibility and accountability and often can result to impunity.
Contractors that have participated in war crimes such as the Nisour Square Massacre and the Abu
Ghraib Scandal, still have not been prosecuted despite cries for justice from the Iraqi population.

Banning Prayer In Schools
If you were to sit in the bleachers of a football game today, would God be mentioned? More and
more schools across the nation are banning prayer that is recited over the loudspeakers. The
controversy has arose over the past 20 years. How would you feel if a Friday night tradition of
praying was taken away from your night? Would you feel as if you were missing something? The
assistant coach for Bremerton High School, Joe Kennedy, prayed at the 50 yard line before and
after every game with his team would join him unforced. It was a Friday night tradition for the
coach. He was asked to stop by the Bremerton High School District because it would be violating
federal law. Kennedy prayed anyway like he had done the past seven years after the team s
homecoming loss. He walked onto the field to pray alone, except when he opened his eyes, he
found a huge crowd of supporters around him. The school district put him... Show more content on

The suspension didn t stop him from being a coach.
In 1995, a case originated out of Galveston County, Texas where two families, one catholic and the
other mormon, sued the Santa Fe School District. The families did not agree with the school s
policy to elect a chaplain to lead prayers at graduation and home football games over their PA
system.
After a five year court battle, the courts ruled that the public school districts cannot let students lead
crowds in prayer before football games. The reasoning was because the prayer is happening on
government land at school sponsored events, that they are pushing the constitutional requirement
that separates church from state.
Players will still be allowed to pray on their own before, during, or after games as long as the prayer
is done by themselves. Some teams have said that their football players can still pray before games
as long as they are the ones initiating it, and the coaches are not allowed to

  • 2. Nelson Mandela is a Worldwide Influence Nelson Mandela once said, There is no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living. His life is a prime example of how passionately he believes these words. Even though he had to undergo many hardships, such as spending twenty seven years in prison and battling tuberculosis, he never stopped striving to make a large impact on not only South Africa, but the world as well (Schoemaker). Nelson Mandela is a major worldwide influence due to his key role in the transformation of South Africa from apartheid to democracy, the numerous charities he established and supported, and his lifelong dedication to ending racial segregation permanently in South Africa. Nelson Mandela was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They enforced segregation in things such as schools, hospitals, shops, and buses; with the blacks always having the worst quality of resources. Even the laws were different depending on skin color. If a black man was found raping a white woman, he would be sentenced life imprisonment, while a white man found raping a black woman would receive a small fine (Gilbert). Mandela fought against these injustices throughout his life and ended up with a life sentence in prison. Although Mandela s jail sentence had a negative effect on the people of South Africa, it caused the rest of the world to begin taking notice. International businesses began boycotting South Africa in the 1980 s and young whites began voicing their opposition to the apartheid across the world. As a result, the National Party began secret negotiations with Mandela while he was in prison, and they began to cut back on segregation and lift the ban on the ANC. When Mandela was released from prison in 1990, he continued on with his fight to end segregation (Schoemaker). Mandela s main goal was to create a Rainbow Nation, in which everyone, no matter their skin color, was free and had equal rights (Polgreen). His insistence on forgiveness over vengeance made him a potent symbol of the struggle to end this country s brutally codified system of racial domination, and the power of peaceful resolution in even the most intractable conflicts, according to Lydia Polgreen. ... • 4. The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Internationalization... 3. Internationalization of production 3.1. OLI Paradigm There are different ways in which companies can expand their activities to gain some sort of competitive advantage. Internationalization is understood as the process of incremental involvement in a country different from the one where business usually happens. The reasons for companies to seek international expansion vary (Morschett 2007): Resource seeking: the MNC is motivated to expand its operations on the supply side to other countries or regions to secure access to resources. Technology/talent seeking: many companies have an interest in investing abroad for the sake of accessing to strategic assets or knowledge. The eclectic paradigm (Dunning, 1988) proposes that there are patterns determined by the configuration of the different advantages as perceived by a company and these are the motor for understanding internationalization. Because of more abundance in resources and knowledge, companies have more chances of succeeding in their home markets. Therefore the main point of the eclectic paradigm, proposes that there must exist a competitive advantage that levels the field for a foreign company to compete with local companies and still have a chance of succeeding. These advantages need to surpass the break even of costs for setting up operations in a foreign country. This paradigm contrasts with modern theories of MNCs, which propose that instead of existing a competitive advantage strong enough to motivate the internationalization of operations, the factor behind this company behavior has to do with market failure due to high transaction costs. • 8. Emerson And Conformity The well known essayist, Ralph Waldo Emerson, exerted his beliefs that conformity is something that independent individuals should not participate in through out his essay of Self Reliance . The Merriam Webster dictionary defines conformity as, behavior that is the same as the behavior of most other people in a society, group, etc. ( Conformity ). Emerson s primary concern with conformity was the overbearing control that society had on a free individual. I agree that we should not change our morals and values if pressured from outside forces. However, society, even though it is merely a concept created by the human brain, is something that holds a country together. Without society, people would make everyday life very complicated and chaotic.The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Emerson is trying to explain here that each individual is responsible for accepting information. Emerson would argue that no one can force any ideas in which you do not agree because they are not sacred or viewed with accuracy by your own mind. However, when people disagree, they should not have any feelings of remorse because to be individualistic, the person must outline what he or she believes and stick to it. I agree with Emerson on the behalf of religious morals because as a Christian, we are called to keep to our faith, Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked (New Living Translation Bible Tim. 1.19). Here, the Bible is showing that sticking to faith and having a Christian outlook on life is necessary. Without these foundations in our walk with God then our faith in God will be skewed. So sticking to something that we believe in is a depiction of Emerson s viewpoint. However, I have internal conflict with Emerson on the basis of nothing is accepted but that in which we believe. The influential David Meyers showed us that in group bias is basically the acceptance or support of some group(s) (100). Meyers gives us a great example that not everything that we accept has to be accepted by our own mind. There are in group biases in which all humans connect to even though we are oblivious to them most of the time. For example, we might connect more with people of our race because as a in group bias, those are the people we are around more often. This is not a racist standpoint but rather an immediate connection with someone who we unknowingly think is similar to us. Conformity is something that Emerson despises throughout his essay and it crucial to understand why nonconformity is disliked in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The importance of engineering materials can be noted from the fact that historical ages have been named after materials. Materials Science forms the basic foundation for engineers in product development because the structures, components, and devices that design are limited by the properties of the materials. In the customer driven competitive business environment, the product quality is of paramount importance [1]. The product or end application quality has been found to be influenced by the engineering design, type of materials selected and the processing technology employed. Therefore, the importance of engineering materials and their process techniques are art of today s engineering world. There are wide categories of materials available which have shown their potential in various engineering applications ranging from aerospace to household. Everyday when I come home from school my dog, Nemo, is there to greet me at the door by jumping on me and licking my face. I could ve had an amazing, miserable, tired, or content day and the jumping still continues. Canines are loyal friends and the relationship between dogs and humans goes way back. Dogs are better than cats because they assist humans and show more affection. Dogs have been domesticated for as long as 135,000 years which makes cats seem fairly new to the household. Both dogs and cats were originally used for reasons that benefited human work. Now a days, dogs are far more useful with job skills. When I was little, I used to live outside. Not literally, but just in the sense that I was an outdoors kind of child. I enjoyed helping my dad with household projects and was ecstatic when I found out he would build a tree house for me. While he built the major part of it with dangerous equipment, I put myself in charge of collecting sticks to try and help my father put it together. Sooner or later, Nemo, my dog, was running back and forth with sticks in his mouth helping me collect what I needed. • 15. Analysis Of Tarzan Of The Apes Tarzan of the Apes began it all for Edgar Rice Burroughs, propelling him into the world of literature with no understanding how he happened to succeed in becoming ranked among the finest adventure story authors. His stories set the stage of adventure story telling through his narrative efficiency in their construction, capturing and keeping the audience s imagination (Gioia, 2014; Bartlett, 2017). Although from humble beginnings published as a pulp fictionadventure, there is much debate over categorising Tarzan of the Apes into a specific genre, as some argue elements of romance and science fiction. Adventure novels are highly controlled and contained narrative form, while also containing writing of excess and exaggeration. This is evident in Burroughs language and writing style. Tarzan is written to be straightforwardly linear and literal with no room for interpretations. It s wordy and repetitious, which could be due to the fact that pulp fiction writers were paid by the length of their stories, but the short sentence lengths used to describe action is a key element of identifying a text for the adventure genre (Bartlett, 2017; Easthope, 1991; Cawelti, 1976)). This literal telling of action can be shown through the telling of Tarzan s battle with Bolgani, the huge gorilla: But the boy had learned in that brief second a use for his sharp and shining toy, so that, as the tearing, striking beast dragged him to earth he plunged the blade repeatedly and to the hilt into its breast. The gorilla, fighting after the manner of its kind, struck terrific blows with its open hand, and tore the flesh at the boy s throat and chest with its mighty tusks. Burroughs, p. 42 Adventure stories focus on plot development over character development, steering away from existential writings to concentrate on pure action. Doss, very few people are familiar with the names of recent conscientious objectors. In fact, in an all volunteer force that exists in the United States military today, some would be shocked to learn that about 60 members of the military still apply for to be a conscientious objectoreach year. While numerous military members and United States civilians agree that it is outrageous for a volunteer to the military to decide they cannot fight in a war they enlisted to participate in, this does not fully encapsulate the issue at hand. The Military Service is incentivized, offering a career, education, and life long benefits; thus, some will volunteer for Military Service without deeply considering the ethics of service and their personal convictions; moreover, the nature of war causes man to struggle with the morality after deployment, resulting in a conviction arriving late into one s career. Therefore, when faced with unresolved conflict of conscience, it is necessary for a military member to examine their moral beliefs in order to make an ethical decision regarding whether to continue military participation. • 18. Macbeth And The Grave Diggers In Hamlet By William... The scene takes place in the most suspenseful moment of the play. There has been a series of tragic scenes before the grave digger scene. Polonius is killed by Hamlet in Claudius s bed chamber and as a result Claudius orders Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to prepare to take Hamlet with them to England. Ophelia goes mad and soon Laertes arrives with mob. Soon Hamletsends back letters to Horatio and the king that he is coming. So when the audience waits to see the ultimate outcome of all these happenings the two grave diggers come on the stage and engage themselves in a legalistic chop logic. Thus the grave diggers provide a broad comic relief to an otherwise deadly serious and grim tragedy. The occasional admission of comic ingredient in a tragedy or comic relief is used to calm down the tragic feeling momentarily in order to make it more intensifying. Though Aristotle in his Poetics does not make allowance for the dilution series action, the Elizabethan dramas are replete with instances of the combination of the comic and the tragic elements. This tendency of using the comic in tragedy and its final canonization also became popular in Shakespeare. The comic relief is a regular feature in Shakespeare. The part played by fool in Kinglear, porter in Macbeth is the same as the apart played by the grave diggers in Hamlet. Consequently, Eisenhower was the most influential leader: he helped make decisions in Washington during the beginning of the war, he helped plan invasions on multiple fronts, he had all the right qualities of a leader with many following his command, and despite the amount of influence Hitler had, Eisenhower was more influential being able to win the war for the Allied Forces. After the decisions were made, the trust, loyalty, and respect Eisenhower had coming from those who were affected by the decisions allowed Eisenhower to remain influential with the people continually following his commands. • 30. The Control Of Mind Control In 1984 By George Orwell In the novel 1984 George Orwell demonstrates how the government maintains power through mind control and manipulation of the masses. Orwell hints that when the government (Big Brother), holds too much power they become crooked and devious towards the rest of the population. In a nutshell Orwell is conveying that a corrupt government destroys all chances for an ideal society. Collectively, George Orwell made a prediction of what was going to happen, and it has become a reality to some extent. Overall this is a great book for the current political state. As Lewis Beale states in his CNN article nearly all public and private places have large TV screens that broadcast government propaganda, news and approved entertainment. But they are also two way monitors that spy on citizens private lives. Today websites like Facebook track our likes and dislikes, and governments and private individuals hack into our computers and find out what they want to know. Then there are the ever present surveillance cameras that spy on the average person as they go about their daily routine . The first clear example occurs with the posters with the words Big Brother is Watching You (page 5). This is clear evidence that the government is watching over its people. • 36. Black Death Dbq Prior to the 14th century, the Crusades were dominating the political system of Europe. However, the new era paved the way for a new political conflict, the Hundred Year War (1337 1453). At the center of every war is always the dispute over territories, and it was no different in the Hundred Years War. The conflict over territories was based on who held the legitimate rights to the French throne. Unfortunately solving the conflict was difficult because of medieval legality which stated that one king could be the vassal of another king if the first inherited land outside his own kingdom. Such was the case for Edward III of Englandwho was also the Duke of Guyenne in France and thus he felt entitled to the French throne. In spite of this, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Millions of people suffered a painful death because the plague had no cure. This would eventually lead to a rapid and devastating decrease in the population. The plague s symptoms were tumorous outgrowth at the roots of the thigh and arms and simultaneously bleeding ulcerations. Initially, it was said that the plague began in China and traveled along a well known trade route and found its way to place like Cairo, Florence, and England. What makes the Black Death a tragedy was how unequipped the society was to handle the outbreak. Symptoms were a mystery, and doctors would often give into performing dangerous and unsanitary procedures on patients. Unfortunately, Paris was the hardest city hit and more than half the population died, mainly the children and poor. In other parts like east Normandy, an alleged 70 to 80 percent of the population perished. The plague also affected those who were not sick, families had to separate from their sick loved one, and in Florence people had their clothing and jewelry regulated. A lack of understanding about the plagued created distress amongst the society. In fact, people believed the plague was a divine punishment because of their sins and the only way to end the sickness was asking for God s forgiveness. Rumors also placed the blame on the Jewish community, and thousands of Jews were massacred. • 37. Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Essay Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost When reading The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost, I found that it was personal, especially to the author. The fact that it was written in first person form helped me to conclude that it was probably about the author. I think the reasoning behind his writing of this poem was because in life, you have many obstacles to overcome and many choices and decisions to make, which opens a path that leads the way to your future. Since those things relate to Frost, I think it motivated him to write this poem on a personal basis, like a short autobiography on his life. It motivated him because he could then tell others about his life and give advice and guidance to the people that read his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The thing that always holds true though, is that the major issues people s lives are always ironically similar to each other or, at least can relate to them in many ways. Therefore, I found that this poem not only symbolizes or relates to the author, but it also symbolizes or holds true to almost everybody s lives. One of the major symbols within this poem is the roads. When he says Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, he is using the roads to symbolize the paths, choices, and decisions that he has to make in his life. Those decisions guide the way to his future, because when you come to a two way street or road you have to decide or make a choice on which path to take. Also when he says And sorry I could not travel both And be on traveler, he is telling us how he is insecure on which road to take because he is unsure of what s ahead and would like to travel both roads to come up with a conclusion or a decision on the correct road to take. So overall, what road basically symbolizes in this poem is the options that he has in his life and the decisions that he has to make. Another symbol in this poem is the many observations that he makes. When he says long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth, he is using his observations to symbolize the brainstorming, analyzing, and thinking you have to do before or ahead of time when you are offered two options in your life and only one path to take. ... • 39. Factors Affecting The Environment Of A Watershed Introduction: Environmental issues caused by such human activities as farming, agriculture and infrastructural development can negatively affect the abiotic factors of the local environment. This can disturb water equilibrium and pose implications on the biodiversity of a watershed. Various forms of pollution, including runoff and erosion, can interfere with the health of its aquatic habitats. The purpose of this lab report is to observe to what extent the abiotic factors of Yellow Creek correspond with the health status of its ecosystem. This will be done by comparing the levels of turbidity and acidity and the corresponding level of impairment to four other water streams in the greater Toronto area. Research Question: How can the abiotic factors of a watershed such as acidity and turbidity indicate the health of Yellow Creek? Background information: Abiotic factors are nonliving, physical and chemical aspects of the environment. (Rutherford, 2015) The pH level is a quantitative measure of the hydrogen ions representing the acidity or alkalinity of a water solution. Aquatic life prefer water that has an acidic level of around 6.5 8.5 pH. pH levels higher than 8.5 become highly basic, while pH levels below 6.5 become highly acidic for water quality. This does not allow the species to regulate basic life sustaining processes, primarily the exchanges of respiratory gases and salts within the water in which they live. • 41. Satan s Pity in Paradise Lost O Hell! Satan s opening exclamation of frustration immediately alerts readers to Satan s state of mind. As Satan gazes on Adam and Eve, he is struck by their blissful state, which sends him into a spiral of confusion as he slightly reconsiders his plan to destroy them. To himself, Satan addresses the pair; he begins regretful and with pity for Adam and Eve. He later shifts in tone to vengeful, envious, and angry. Further exemplifying Satans contrasting attitudes, Milton uses antonymous words of emotion throughout the passage. By the end of passage, Milton solidifies Satan s hardening of heart and ends the struggle that has been festering inside Satan since his first act of rebellion against God. Milton successfully uses both the shift in tone and the emotional diction to reveal Satan s stormy internal conflict. Throughout the passage, Milton inserts beautifully emotional words that describe Satan s contrasting feelings: grief and joy, woe and bliss, loathing and delight. The positive feelings that Satan expresses, though describing Adam and Eve s state, reflect the good nature in Satan. That nature is visibly small, as Satan describes himself as joyful or blissful. He merely observes this happiness in Adam and Eve; he even speaks the words with hints of regret. The negative words have a much more powerful effect: Satan uses these words to describe his own feelings and his own domain, Hell. The feelings of grief, woe, and loathing are his, not Adam and Eve s, and thus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Characteristics Of Impactful Leadership In Jackson Vs.... 1. E. Bronson Ingram was known for his strong leadership in both the business world and through his philanthropic efforts. Describe which leadership characteristics you believe to be essential for creating greater opportunities at the intersection of entrepreneurship and high impact philanthropy. Andrew Carnegie once claimed that No man becomes rich unless he enriches others. Carnegie, alongside other captains of industry, such as Cornelius Vanderbilt, pioneered the pairing of entrepreneurship and philanthropy, through inspiring leadership. He witnessed the poverty and destitution of the time and led both the business and philanthropic communities, alike, in the effort to better society. He was an entrepreneurial and philanthropic leader due to his commitment to his vision and his continual recognition of the potential he had to thwart society s injustice and misdeeds. Consequently, with an undying commitment to one s endeavors, as well as constant recognition of what one can do in order to combat the wrongs of the world, true, impactful leadership can form at the intersection of philanthropy and entrepreneurship. Without commitment, no vision can come to fruition. Great tasks require great dedication. Especially when balancing both entrepreneurship and philanthropy, commitment is integral to every endeavor. For example, without Steve Job s commitment to becoming a revolutionary innovator, the devices we hold in our hands everyday would be nonexistent, as would be his charitable and humanitarian efforts. However, with ardent fervor he thrived in entrepreneurship, founding the world s most well known tech company, and, subsequently, philanthropy, donating many of the funds that he raised to noble causes. Dedication was his key to success, putting his whole heart in every task that he undertook. Thus, in order to maximize the opportunities at the crossroads of philanthropy and entrepreneurship, this undying pursuance is necessary for successful leaders. Furthermore, recognition of one s abilities to affect positive change is intrinsic to leading any mission. The ability to perceive, beyond oneself, is the key to locating and targeting a problem with success. For entrepreneurship and philanthropy to thrive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thereafter, a critical assessment will be provided regarding the ILO s steps against child labour, and some major problems will be highlighted regarding the ILO s approach to eliminate child labour. Defining Child Labour Mowing the lawn, washing the car and dishes, or cleaning the kitchen are the types of tasks that most children dislike to do. However, tasks such as these are not defined as child labour. Generally speaking, child labour is defined as something along the lines of: Labour that exploits children and restricts their mental and physical development , and thus household chores, in most cases, cannot be considered to be a form of child labour. However, labour that is not appropriate for children, such as working with dangerous machinery, mining, or work that exposes children to sexual abuse, can be defined as child labour. This is due to the fact that, in situations like the ones described, children are exposed to exploitation and to circumstances that are detrimental to their physical and mental health. That being said, labour in itself is not considered to be necessarily a bad thing for children, since it can provide them with many learning opportunities. For example, ...
