Every American history class addresses the civil rights movement. Yet, author
Timothy B. Tyson, in his novel Blood Done Sign My Name, specifically discusses
the use of violence in this well known movement. As a way to draw attention, many
groups turn to acts of violence to attempt to rectify social injustice. Although violence
may not directly change a negative situation, it indirectly helped the civil rights
movement by drawing attention to the rising racial conflicts in Oxford, North

In On The Sufferings of the World, Arthur Schopenhauer has a pessimistic outlook
on life. He believes that suffering is a part of life and that without suffering, the
world would be an even more miserable place. As many people may assume, life
gets better as you grow older. Schopenhauer however disagrees with this statement
and claims that life continually deteriorates. Before reading this piece I strongly
believed that I was an optimist. I always like to see the bright side of situations but,
Schopenhauer really gave me a different outlook on life, a pessimistic view, and I
surprisingly agreed with many of his ideas. Although this is true, at the end of the
reading, I disagreed with more ideas than not. Therefore, I do not think that
Schopenhauer s account on life is a good proposal to live by because not everyone
is continuously miserable in their life and it is perfectly reasonable to have a positive

Schopenhauer believes that our whole lives are supposed to consist of suffering. He
states, It is the good which is negative; in other words, happiness and satisfaction

Acid Rain Formation The formation of acid rain occurs when particular gasses are
dissolved into rainwater which in turn creates acids. When precipitation is caught up
in clouds, potent gasses are capable of polluting the rainwater causing it to become

We filled those hot summer days playing hopscotch and marbles, or rolled down
the hills in my yard until we felt so dizzy that we couldn t stand. The brook below
our house was gentle. Sometimes we would both go down, sit on the bridge while
we let our feet hang loose to let the cooling water drip past our toes, and breathed in

Library Donation Books
This summer I spent hours on the library s third floor, a large area used for storage
since the 1970 s; no air conditioning but lots of dust. I sorted through 177 boxes of
books that were donated to the library. Library staff are not following the current
donation policy and all donated books are given to the Friends BookSale. Many
books in my Adult Fiction section are in well loved condition with water damage,
broken spines and torn pages. Sorting through the boxes led to the addition of 300
adult fiction titles not owed by the library, example added a new copy of Odd
Thomas by Dean Koontz. The donationbooks were used to replace 450 loved books
with newer copies, example replaced a water damaged, broken spine copy of The
Nightingale by Kristin Hannah with a brand new copy. My frustration leads me to
search for information about how to handle book donations in a public library. I
searched the Library and Information Source link on Clarion s online library page
using the term handling gift or donated books . I selected Kay Ann Cassell s article
Handling gift books in libraries: A view from the US. Cassell s article provides an
overview of guidelines to be used in creating a gift book policy. A gift or donated
book policy should be part of the library s Collection Development policy. Library
staff are able to follow a policy that explains the purpose of the library s collection,
what the library provides, who are library users and what types of materials are

Music is one of many forms of art. There are varying types of music which consists of
seven different concepts. These concepts: rhythm, tone, beat, melody, harmony,
expression, and structure, are the fundamental parts of music. These parts of music,
with all of its characteristics, has been proven throughout history to change views of
most humans on earth regardless of age race, sex, and nationality. The creation of
music is still disputed; however its early forms consisted of simple beats, rhythms,
and melodies that would often mimic the human body s natural sounds (Gough, The

These music forms relied on the human voice but contained complex music
structures. The complexity of these music pieces would create states of wonder
and awe to the church members. These musical forms, like all of the future music
genres, relied on the musical scales; however it started using complex math
formulas to add another degree of complexity. An example of these musical forms
is the Gregorian chant. Gregorian chants originated from the Catholic Church
during the reign of Pope Gregory I, a great scholar and musician ( St. Gregory the
Great Pope and Doctor of the Church ). Now, fast forward to the late eighteenth

composers and society as a whole was becoming freer and more open. These
changes affect us today ( Nationalist Composers ). People of many nations were full
of pride for their home countries. Many of these people were composers and
created patriotic music. These music pieces were full of pride and helped unite the
citizens of a country despite their race or social status. But this was not the only
transition in music that occurred in this period; the open minds of the composers
and society helped create a new genre of music unlike its predecessors, Baroque and

When evil people do evil things, they should not deserve being the most powerful
people in our society or government. A monopoly is the exclusive possession of the
supply of a good or service and that means they have complete control of an entire
industry, that just doesn t seem fair. Many monopolists are considered robber barons
and some were captains of industry, however they are all in some way selfish, names
like John Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie and Cornelius Vanderbilt come to mind. That
is why I proposed a bill to target the railroad industry, the most corrupt monopolyof
them all, if we can stop them we can stop everyone else. The railroad industry
promotes horizontal integration, vertical integrationand discriminates against smaller
companies, that is why I wanted to stop them. My first reason to pass this
commerce act is that the railroad industry discriminates against other companies and
people. Some of us may have wondered, How are monopolies harmful? Well,
monopolies are generally viewed as harmful because they obstruct the free
competition that determines the price and quality of products and services offered to

understand what they do negatively affect other people and that it s not right, they
