The document summarizes a lecture on creating a new addiction science for the 21st century. It discusses several key points:
1) Research over the last 30 years has identified predictors of substance use and addiction in social and individual factors, as well as biological and genetic factors involved in addiction processes.
2) Research has also identified effective prevention and treatment programs, however not all individuals respond to these interventions. A better understanding of neurobiological and environmental interactions is needed to develop more effective approaches.
3) The new addiction science aims to identify how genetic, individual, environmental influences and interventions impact substance use over development to inform the timing of prevention strategies.

Whole systems demonstrator programme 2011Alfredo Alday
The Whole System Demonstrator programme was the largest randomized controlled trial of telehealth and telecare in the world. It involved over 6,000 patients across three sites testing the impact of remote monitoring technologies on patients with long term conditions like diabetes, heart failure, and COPD. The initial findings show telehealth reduced mortality by 45%, emergency hospital admissions by 20%, bed days by 14%, and costs by 8%. The program demonstrates that remote monitoring technologies can transform care delivery by empowering patients and reducing strain on hospitals if integrated into healthcare systems properly.

A dissertation on anti-smoking advertising aimed at adolescents (1)mohsinsane
The document summarizes a research study that investigated the effects of anti-smoking advertisements on high school students aged 15-17. The study involved a field experiment with 100 students divided into a control group and experimental group. The experimental group was exposed to various anti-smoking ads while the control group was not. Questionnaires administered before and after found that students exposed to the ads were less likely to smoke, have lower smoking intentions, and greater intentions to quit smoking compared to the control group. Effects of the ads differed based on grade level, socioeconomic status, and level of exposure. Overall, the study indicates anti-smoking ads can help reduce smoking among adolescents when incorporated into tobacco education programs.
5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT or Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that serves a range of roles in the human body. It is sometimes referred to as the happy chemical since it promotes overall well-being and happiness.
It is mostly found in the brain, intestines, and blood platelets.
5-HT is utilised to transport messages between nerve cells, is known to be involved in smooth muscle contraction, and adds to overall well-being and pleasure, among other benefits. 5-HT regulates the body's sleep-wake cycles and internal clock by acting as a precursor to melatonin.
It is hypothesised to regulate hunger, emotions, motor, cognitive, and autonomic processes.
The biomechanics of running involves the study of the mechanical principles underlying running movements. It includes the analysis of the running gait cycle, which consists of the stance phase (foot contact to push-off) and the swing phase (foot lift-off to next contact). Key aspects include kinematics (joint angles and movements, stride length and frequency) and kinetics (forces involved in running, including ground reaction and muscle forces). Understanding these factors helps in improving running performance, optimizing technique, and preventing injuries.
This presentation gives information on the pharmacology of Prostaglandins, Thromboxanes and Leukotrienes i.e. Eicosanoids. Eicosanoids are signaling molecules derived from polyunsaturated fatty acids like arachidonic acid. They are involved in complex control over inflammation, immunity, and the central nervous system. Eicosanoids are synthesized through the enzymatic oxidation of fatty acids by cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase enzymes. They have short half-lives and act locally through autocrine and paracrine signaling.

GASTROINTESTINAL INFECTIONS AND GASTRITIS
Osvaldo Bernardo Muchanga
Gastrointestinal Infections
GASTROINTESTINAL INFECTIONS result from the ingestion of pathogens that cause infections at the level of this tract, generally being transmitted by food, water and hands contaminated by microorganisms such as E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio cholerae, Campylobacter, Staphylococcus, Rotavirus among others that are generally contained in feces, thus configuring a FECAL-ORAL type of transmission.
Among the factors that lead to the occurrence of gastrointestinal infections are the hygienic and sanitary deficiencies that characterize our markets and other places where raw or cooked food is sold, poor environmental sanitation in communities, deficiencies in water treatment (or in the process of its plumbing), risky hygienic-sanitary habits (not washing hands after major and/or minor needs), among others.
These are generally consequences (signs and symptoms) resulting from gastrointestinal infections: diarrhea, vomiting, fever and malaise, among others.
The treatment consists of replacing lost liquids and electrolytes (drinking drinking water and other recommended liquids, including consumption of juicy fruits such as papayas, apples, pears, among others that contain water in their composition).
To prevent this, it is necessary to promote health education, improve the hygienic-sanitary conditions of markets and communities in general as a way of promoting, preserving and prolonging PUBLIC HEALTH.
Gastritis and Gastric Health
Gastric Health is one of the most relevant concerns in human health, with gastrointestinal infections being among the main illnesses that affect humans.
Among gastric problems, we have GASTRITIS AND GASTRIC ULCERS as the main public health problems. Gastritis and gastric ulcers normally result from inflammation and corrosion of the walls of the stomach (gastric mucosa) and are generally associated (caused) by the bacterium Helicobacter pylor, which, according to the literature, this bacterium settles on these walls (of the stomach) and starts to release urease that ends up altering the normal pH of the stomach (acid), which leads to inflammation and corrosion of the mucous membranes and consequent gastritis or ulcers, respectively.
In addition to bacterial infections, gastritis and gastric ulcers are associated with several factors, with emphasis on prolonged fasting, chemical substances including drugs, alcohol, foods with strong seasonings including chilli, which ends up causing inflammation of the stomach walls and/or corrosion. of the same, resulting in the appearance of wounds and consequent gastritis or ulcers, respectively.
Among patients with gastritis and/or ulcers, one of the dilemmas is associated with the foods to consume in order to minimize the sensation of pain and discomfort.

AliveCor, founded by Dr. David E. Albert, has
created an incredibly powerful and elegant
system that transforms the iPhone 4 into an
ECG heart monitor
Azumio, provides immediate information
satisfaction. The install takes under a minute, and
the app couldn’t be any simpler. Click “measure”,
place your finger over your phones’ camera, and
wait 10 seconds for the results. The app uses the
camera light to shine into your finger, and then the
camera lens itself detects changes in your blood
flow , and then calculate your pulse.

Proposed system solution
• A mobile application that could test the sobriety level of a person who is
under substance influence.
• A device in a car or with an alcohol serving place (restaurant /pub) , that could
monitor the breathe and diagnose
whether the driver is sober enough to drive.
• A traffic police officer could have a device that could monitor, diagnose and
analyze the driver’s condition and within seconds the result appears.
The report could further be sent to the police station with a click.

Occupation : Doctor at an NGO
“I don’t believe in regretting the past”
Scenario
Yukta Sen had been working at Hope for Joy for the past 7 years. It’s an Ngo that helps any
kind of substance addict to detoxify their illness. She had quite an experience with her
clients. She believes people are regretful and feel guilty for their past mistakes. A lot of
time people in general are ignorant of the fact that they need help and guidance. They try
to hide their flaws by not sharing it with their loved ones ; which later on makes it bigger
challenge for the family. She thinks there is a whole need to spread awareness among the
masses.

“Better to be safe than sorry”
Scenario
I am fed up of those people who drink more than 1 bottle of alcohol and then plan to drive.
It makes me really angry. Last night incident itself, when I got into an argument with this big
time builder son who was adamant to drive his car after being fully drunk. We finally had to
call cops so that we don’t get involved in any trouble. Thought these kind of problems are
quite often especially during Wedding and New year season.
