Albrecht Durer Influence
Albrecht Durer was a German known for his engravings and painting throughout Europe. He lived
from 1471–1528 and during that time made a great impact on the world of art. Durer was raised by
his father and godfather, who were a goldsmith, and printer/publisher, respectively. From these men
he learned his basic art skills such as drawing and woodcutting. His experience with his family as a
child lead to his expertise in painting, printmaking, engraving, math, and theology. Durer, also often
thought about the different proportions that are seen in a human body, which influenced his future
work, such as his Adam and Eve paintings. He is known to be the first northern European to have
been influenced by things going on with the Italian Renaissance. ... Show more content on

In the painting, Eve stands by an evil serpent and is falling for his lies and charm while eating an
apple. On the other side of the painting, Adam is holding the apple that he received from Eve. Adam
and Eve are naked in the paintings, which represents their purity and innocence. They do however
use leaves to cover the private areas of their body. The paintings were made to be life sized. Both,
Adam and Eve are shown to be tall and muscular. Durer did not put too much detail in the
background because he did not want the background to be a distraction from the beauty of Adam
and Eve. Adam appears to be hesitant in the painting, with his right hand open in an almost
defensive kind of matter. Eve on the other hand looks like she is trying to persuade Adam of
something. The painting is an example of implied time and motion because these actions are being
implied and it is hard to know for sure what the actual motions will continue to be, all we know for
sure is that both characters have different things on their mind by the way they are holding their
bodies and their facial

The Works Of Francisco De Goya
Francisco de Goya was born in 1746 in the village of Fuendetodos in Aragon. He started studying
painting before the age of 14. Goya lived in Spain during the French occupation in 1808 that led to
the Peninsular War of 1808–1814;therefore, the war changed Goya's paints pallet from bright colors
to dark colors. Goya painted the struggle the Spanish people went through. For instance, he painted
The Third of May and The Disaster of The War series. Goya also suffered from a severe and
undiagnosed illness in ,1793, which left him completely deaf. This was another reason leading to his
darker paintings. Also Josefa's death affected Goya's painting, while he was mentally and
emotionally processing the war by painting the Second of May, 1808 and ... Show more content on

Goya's painted a man who is about to be shot, men who have just been shot, and line of men who
are about to be shot. Goya makes us see the Spanish people's faces, and their emotions, to make us
have empathy. In the other hand, the solders lined up with their backs toward us leave us with no
feeling for them. Saturn Devouring His Son is another painting by Goya. It was painted from 1819
to 1823. According to the traditional interpretation, it depicts the Greek myth of the Titan Cronus .
Saturn Devouring His Son is one of Goya's darkest paintings. It was painted directly onto the wall of
his house. The painting is about Saturn, the God of time, who was told that one of his sons will
dethrone him. In order to prevent that Saturn devoured his children as they were born, but Jupiter
escaped so Saturn in the end was dethroned and couldn't escape. This terrifying story is depicted in a
horrific way in this painting. We can see the horror in Saturn's eyes as he pulls his son's arm into his
mouth. He is trying to seek revenge, and tells us that no one can take away what he has. Also
Saturn's facial expression gives us the feeling that Saturn knows that he is not doing the right thing,
so he tries to do it as quickly as possible, he is trying not to listen to his heart, but to listen to his
head only. Although this is his son, he thinks he shouldn't feel sorry for him

Saturn Devouring His Son Research Paper
The Myth of Saturn Devouring His Son
The myth of Saturn devouring his son is a dark, morbid, and ghoulish story. The Greek Titan, Saturn
overthrew is father and married the goddess of fertility. Saturn then learned of a prophecy that one
of his sons would overthrow him like he did his father. He then became obsessed with thwarting the
prophecy. At the birth of each child, Saturn would devour the infant. Saturn's wife hid their last
child, Zeus, whom fully grown, fulfilled the prophecy and became ruler of the Olympians. There are
rumors that Saturn would get sexual pleasure out of consuming his children but that has never been
confirmed. Many artists over the years have painted this myth, putting their own creative twist on it.
Two very well–known artists who drew inspiration from the myth are Francisco Goya with his work
Saturn Devouring His Son (1819–1823) and Peter Paul Rubens' Title (1636)
Francisco Goya, (1746–1828) was a Spanish artist often is known to sometimes be called "the father
of modern art." ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Saturn and the child are painted in bright colors in the center of the canvas to stand out from the
dark background. Saturn is holding a long metal tool that looks like a royal staff and like the scythe
of Death. The stars in the sky above him could be a sign of the planet named after him. The child in
his arms has his head thrown back screaming and the audience can see the horrified look on his face.
Saturn's head is down with a look of determination as he tears his son's flesh. Rubens paints the
flesh being torn off the child, and the viewer's eye is drawn directly there. Rubens highlights this
horrible act of cannibalism with realistic looking figures, and Saturn's total lack of remorse helps us
see how evil his act is. Saturn appears to be in control of the situation, and is choosing to destroy his

There are many people out there who are into merchandising, selling T–shirts, and also custom

The major objective is to enhance development and encourage learning and participation in order to
provide access to contemporary art to every person.
Does such a market exist? Absolutely. Taking just Hyderabad into consideration Shilaparamam
proves to be a perfect example. A meeting point for artists and art lovers. Each year, thousands of
cross cultural artists from all across the country share a common ground at Shilparamam. Another
good example could be Numaish (industrial exhibition). These are just two large scale examples.
Each week or month there are various flea markets that thrive throughout the city. These are all
unorganized sectors. Now imagine bringing all that fabulous and diverse art on one forum, one
place. That is artAberrants for you.
Is this venture socially relevant?
Like any other industry, earning a name in the art industry can take years and only with viable
recognition do art houses take interest in the artists. Many a times it becomes immensely tough for
talented artists to sustain in those years of struggle as both their means and opportunities are often
limited. Many talented artists agree to sell their work for a meager price, many quit making art in the
first place. In the process the middlemen end up making the money while the artists suffer greatly.
This leads to not just exploitation of the artists, but exploitation of art itself. We want to fill this void
that exists between the consumers of art and the artists. Thus, this

Analysis Of Pop Art Of Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol's 2–D silkscreen print, Sitting Bull, is a very popular and controversial print from his
series Cowboys and Indians. The print is representational, based on an original archival photo of the
Sioux Chief, Sitting Bull. In the original photograph and print, the Chief is posing for a headshot
photo, with a calm facial expression and stance. The chief has two long braids to both sides of his
head and a feather on his head. In the print, the artist chose to make the chief's skin light blue, his
dress bright red, his hair and braids dark blue, and his shape is outlined in yellow, white and blue,
drawing attention to the subject. As for most of Warhol's Pop style pieces, the photo was redesigned
by the artist to be printed in vivid colors and showcases a lightly colored outline of his body and
shape, giving the original photo a modern touch. The artist's work was printed using the silkscreen
printing process on a 36 inch by 36 inch Lenox Museum Board paper (Sitting Bull 376, 2016).
Sitting Bull is great representation of the artist's famous style. Warhol was a very successful
illustrator and designer in New York City before he and other artists developed the concept of Pop
art, the style in which he is popular for, and the style he chose to recreate Sitting Bull (Andy Warhol
Biography, 2016). Pop art is a modern style of art in which the subject matter is commonplace

Characteristics Of Erges And Escher
Part III. Modernism, Postmodernism and Escher:
Relate Escher's lithographs Magic Mirror, Print Gallery, Waterfall and Relativity to Borges and
Kafka's work. What aspects and/or themes of their work could these prints illustrate? What
Modernist and Postmodernist characteristics do you find in them?
Mauritius Cornelis (M.C.) Escher was a Dutch artist that focused on drawing and printmaking. In
correlation with Escher's work, the themes of his pieces often centered the impossible. These
creative ideas present Modernist and Postmodernist characteristics, as they draw on the
subconscious and fragmentary nature of human life. In the lithograph Magic Mirror, there is a large
emphasis placed on the fictional winged–lion, while Print Gallery ... Show more content on

In this work, Marquez focuses on corruption as Senator Onesimo Sanchez accepts pay offs from his
people. As specified by the text, "In this story he is clearly a corrupt politician who accepts bribes
and stays in power by helping the local property owners avoid reform" (2053). Accordingly, in the
text, Sanchez speaks at a rally and knowingly presents promises that he does not intend to keep. In
the text, it states,"We will no longer be foundlings in our own country, orphans of God in a realm of
thirst and bad climate, exiles in our own land. We will be different people, ladies and gentlemen, we
will be a great and happy people," (2056). This quote emphasizes that Sanchez deceives his people
in order to stay in power. Additionally, Sanchez encounters Nelson Farina, who is an escaped
convict that continuously begs him for a false–identification card. Thus, Farina sends his daughter,
Laura, to seduce Sanchez into providing him with an ID. However, Laura is wearing a chastity–belt
that her father uses to persuade Sanchez into delivering his request. Ultimately, these ideas relate to
the theme of corruption as Sanchez relays and performs deals based on his own satisfaction. Another
theme within the story is loneliness. This theme is prominent in the work, because Sanchez suffers
alone due to his underlying alienation. Sanchez is a husband and a father, yet he never tells any of
them that he has six months and eleven days to live.

The Relief and Intaglio Printmaking Process
Describe the Relief Printmaking process. List an artist who uses the form of printmaking. Refer to
this video for more information.
The Relief Printmaking process is a printmaking process in which someone covers a block of
material, such as wood, in ink. Then they proceed to deeply etch out the inked surface in the form of
a design. Once that is done, they lay paper over the block with pressure so that the ink is shared
generously all over the paper. When the paper is removed, the design will have been transferred and
they will have the finished artwork. Using a block of wood is known as Woodcut Relief
Printmaking, or "Woodcuts". There are also Wood Engravings, where a stronger type of wood is
used so an artist can engrave an image into the surface rather than cut it out. In my opinion, the
second step of the process could be left to remain as the art itself. In the video showing the process
as Lyell Castonguay created his piece, "Hydra", I thought the design in the ink coated wood looked
more bold and real than the actually piece. But this may only be for the reason that the finished
product lacked color in comparison. Of course, Lyell isn't the only artist who uses this printmaking
process. Another artist who uses Relief Printmaking is Katsushika Hokusai. Hokusai used the same
process to create his color woodcut piece called "South Wind, Clear Sky", a portrayal of Mount Fuji.

Victoria Hutson Huntley Analysis
An exhibition never fails in taking the spectator on a journey through the chosen art's narrative. The
vast selection of exhibitions that were available at the National Gallery of Art made it difficult to
narrow down the preferred choices. While examining the exhibition list one word seemed to capture
my attention. Urban. I had the privilege to be born in a foreign city and to grow up in yet another
city. This perspective colored my gallery selection and placed emphasis on the word "Urban."
Located in the West Wing of the Natural Gallery of Art, "Urban Scene 1920–1950" is an exhibition
that reveals the four century–old artistic interpretation of the dynamic life that comes with residing
in a city. Part of the beauty of the exhibition is the incorporation of less recognized American artists
that worked on various printmaking techniques to create these astonishing achievements. The
installation utilized minimalistic styles that introduced the viewer to various cities in the US. During

mastery of manipulation on printmaking that successfully creates an illusion of depth utilizing lights

accompanied with a small text labeling the print as one of the works that was produced in 1934 and

Leo Steinberg Flatbed Picture Plane Analysis
In the late 1950s, Rauschenberg began to make the groundbreaking works he dubbed Combines.
These works inspired Leo Steinberg's theorization of the "flatbed picture plane." This term was
posited in his essay "Reflections on the State of Criticism." The essay's first manifestation was as a
lecture given at the Museum of Modern Art in March 1968, and was subsequently published in
Artforum in 1972. Notably, it was also the title essay in Steinberg's book Other Criteria:
Confrontation with Twentieth–Century Art, of 1972. Steinberg's notion of the flatbed picture plane
has several facets. This picture plane relies on the actual flatness of the painting's surface, the
horizontality of the work's construction and reception, an interaction between ... Show more content

Unlike canvas or paper, printing stones and plates can only be worked on while they are flat. The
weight of the lithography stones, the acid bath of etchings, and the carving of woodcuts do not allow
for any other orientation. Furthermore, presses are always kept horizontal; any other orientation
would not create enough pressure to transfer the image to paper. Rauschenberg's affinity for
lithography (I am suggesting) is foreshadowed in his Combines as well as in his early indexical
works. In fact, it can be asserted that critical concerns like the flatbed and the index better suit his
lithographs than his other

The Album Of La Revue Blanche
Exhibition Overview:
Among the many fabulous pieces of art housed at the DMA, there lies a hidden gem that has yet to
be on display. The Album of La Revue Blanche, a collection of prints commissioned by the late 19th
century Parisian anarchist journal, provides not only an insight into popular fin–de–siècle French
print culture, but also a beautiful case–study in the techniques developed by leading artists in the
realm of fine art lithography. It is the goal of this exhibit to explore the place of the graphic arts in
early modern art through the example of this journal, and to examine more closely the stylistic
hallmarks of the lithograph in a more detailed way.
Lithography: Method
Lithography is planographic printing process that makes use of the immiscibility of grease and
water. In the lithographic process, ink is applied to a grease–treated image on the flat printing
surface. Non–image areas hold moisture and repel the lithographic ink. This inked surface is then
printed by means of a special press as in most fine–art printmaking . The earliest–though no longer
the only–method of creating lithographs involved the use of a block of porous limestone. An image
is drawn with "tusche"– a carbon pigment in liquid form, and "litho" crayon – a type of grease
pencil– before the printing surface is fixed, moistened, and inked in preparation for printing. The
printing itself is done on a press that exerts a sliding pressure, and because it undergoes virtually no
wear in

Should Graffiti Be Banned And Graffiti Artists Be Banned?
Should graffiti be banned and graffiti artists be prosecuted? This and a variety of related questions
have been increasingly perplexing society as a result of the popularization of graffiti, starting with
dissemination of its works in New York City in the early 1980s (346). Since then, graffiti artists
have both been banned and cherished, deprived of their work and allowed in art galleries. Thus,
another question has been raised: Should graffiti be considered art or a form of communication with
aesthetics on a background? This question is addressed in the essay, "Revolution in a Can," written
by Blake Gopnik and first published in the November 2011 edition of Foreign Policy (345). In the
essay, Gopnik presents an argument that essentially divides the world of graffiti in two spheres:
Western and non–Western. In the former, graffiti has gone from being a means of speaking against
prevailing inequalities to "[saddling] with the oldest high–culture clichés" associated with art (346).
While in the latter, graffiti is used to communicate ideas and to "[speak] truth to power" (346).
Ultimately, what is at stake here is how do we accept and identify new forms of self–expression
which are vital to human development? While many can agree that the likelihood of a person
running into graffiti in a Western art gallery is greater than doing so in the non–Western world, the
act of regionally dividing the purpose of art seems questionable to say the least. Thus, even though
Gopnik makes a

Albert Durer's Whore Of Babylon
Albert Durer's Whore of Babylon, from the Apocalypse
The Whore of Babylon woodcut by Albert Durer was one of fifteen woodcuts in his famous series,
The Apocalypse which was published in 1498. This woodcut series portrays scenes from the book of
Revelation in the bible, concerning the end of the world. It was created at a time when Europe
anticipated the "Last Judgement", as Germany was experiencing plagues, religious debates, and
peasant movements towards the end of the 15th century. Durer became wealthy and rapidly well
known across Europe because of this series. He began working on these woodcuts on his trip to Italy
in 1494–1495, and the first two editions were published in 1498 in Nuremberg, Germany, in both
German and Latin. He later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is due to the use of a tool, a burin, to create extremely thin and subtle lines in an engraving. The
medium used for an engraving is metal and is created using an intaglio method. Unlike the relief
process of printmaking, this process is a positive one. The artist scratches the image onto the metal
plate, inks the surface of it, and wipes it clean. As a result, ink is placed into the carved out drawing.
Next, the plate is run through a roller press which causes the ink to absorb to the paper. The
difference in appearance between a relief print and an intaglio print is because of essentially drawing
the image to be created onto the metal plate for an intaglio print. Also cross–hatching, the use of fine
parallel lines to create the illusion of shade, allowed for more subtle shading in the engraving. This
engraving portrays the melancholy personality of artists and Durer, himself. It is suggested that the
winged figure represents Durer because of the location of his monogram or logo underneath the
bench that figure is sitting on. Her pondering stance represents an artistic genius who is looking for
inspiration, but cannot find it, therefore experiences despair in her/himself. The winged child sitting
to the left of the winged female, represents anxiety that the uninspired artist could be experiencing.
In addition, in the upper left corner, a bat is found with the words "melencholia" beside it. The bat
represents melancholy because it only appears or comes out at night and is linked with the darkness.
Durer contrasts melancholy and the light of inspiration by associating this bat in the dark sky with
rays of light. Essentially, because of the wood medium used in the Whore Of Babylon, lines appear
broader, whereas using metal as a medium allowed the Melencollia engraving to display more subtle
lines and

How Does Goya Design Transcend Into Modern Caricature And...
Baudelaire once said, "Caricatures are often the most faithful mirror of life." The art of caricature
was established into print in eighteenth–century England as a form of commentary on the current
events of the time. Caricature as a style itself is a combination of two separate social inventions.
"Caricature Adopting the Italian invention of caricatura–the graphic exaggeration of facial and
bodily features for comic effect and combining it with an updated repertoire of visual metaphor,
personification, and allegorical attributes. " Though born in England, the story about to be told in
this paper is one of Spanish origin, a story about Francisco Goya. This paper will discuss how Goya
implemented painting, drawing, and printing technique to stimulate social critique of and satirize the
subjects of his works. Then how does Goya's methodology transcend into modern caricature and
social critique?
Before one can talk about his prints, one must understand who Francisco Goya is as an artist. Goya
was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker of late 18th and early 19th centuries and throughout
his long career was an important commentator and chronicler of his era. Goya produced a great
number of works in a variety of media in his lifetime. He did religious subjects in painted frescos
and portraits, he then also depicted life in Spain through aquatints, etchings, and lithographs .
Gautier comments saying:

Honore Daumier Research Paper
Honore Daumier was a French artist most famously known for his caricatures and lithographs.
While he was highly credited with these artworks, he was a man of many mediums, studying in
these as well as painting, printmaking and sculpting. He had a strong passion for the arts from an
early age, as many of the greats did, and it was sharpened into what we know now as the great
works of Honore Daumier. He was born in Marseille, France, living with his father Jean–Baptiste
Louise Daumier and Cecile Cathrine Philippe in 1808. His father was a glazier, but his profession
was not earning his family enough to live on. The practice was dying, and he left to Paris in 1814 to
pursue his artistic inclinations as a poet. He worked to become successful, and was able to have his
work seen by the king and was able to have a few of his works published. In 1816, Daumier and his
mother followed Jean–Baptiste to Paris. They were able to live and get by, but they were still faced

earliest drawings. It wasn't until 1822 that his family allowed him to study the arts. They let him
work under Alexander Lenoir, an artist and architect, that introduced him to some of the classic
sculptors and artists like Titian and Rubens. He was pushed in a healthy direction by Lenoir, and
soon began formal study at the Academie Suisse. Under the reign of King Louis Philippe (1830–
1848), Daumier created some of his most iconic caricatures. He began working for a comic journal

Ability to Customize Products
Customization is a standard for 3D printing. With any raw materials that you desire, blueprints and a
3D printer, you can create any object you want, with your own specifications and design.
Rapid Production of Prototypes
3D printing lets us quickly produce any prototypes or small versions of the original product. This
helps researchers and engineers plan the actual object and look for flaws may affect quality and
functionality.
Low Production Cost
Although the cost of setting up a 3D printer is high, overall savings of labor costs, time saved, and
equal effort for small–scale and mass manufacturing ensures that the cost of production is relatively
low.

Uses of 3D Printing
Industry (Business)
Manufacturing and Cost
In the industry, manufacturing products takes time, money and lots of materials. Businessmen want
to advertise their products to large companies. But how can they present their products in an instant?
This is where 3D printing comes in; using this technology for business can help businessmen win
their businesses with companies.
Manufacturing prototypes with 3D printers costs are low compared to other manufacturing
companies. We can increase the production of goods faster, cheaper and even strengthen the
durability of the product. 3D printers may cost high but look at the benefits that it can give to
society.
Consumer
In a consumer's perspective, 3D printers are convenient to anyone. People don't have to go to stores
or online to buy parts for their machines. They only need the materials and blueprints in order to
create anything they want. This technology helps people to save time, energy and money.

What Is Fashion Design Thinking
Firstly, fashion design thinking is a framework for making products aesthetically attractive by
adopting new innovative approaches. But I was intrigued by seeing the disparity between conceptual
fashion design thinking of designers and its industrial production viability. Questions like what type
of fabric is best for what type of printing process and which process is more cost–effective with less
limitation, are still some burning issues in the fashion world. Many times fashion designers demand
very critical development like reactive printing on polyester–cotton blend fabric or discharge
printing on double part dyed cotton–polyester fabric. But unfortunately, considering current
technological aspects in Bangladeshi industrial sector, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My aim is to develop the easiest way so that conventional process can be merged within digital
textile printing and economic additive manufacturing process for synthetic leather production.
Thirdly, due to widespread support and shifting fashion trends towards smart textiles, there is an
exponential room for growth and expansion in terms of innovations and development. I always
thought about how mass people can easily get access to products like antimicrobial garments and
fully functionalized electronic integrated apparels. Clearly, conventional screen printing technique
can be used to produce antibacterial coated printing by using silver nanoparticles or to produce
integrated electrical features like wearable electronic sensory textiles, energy harvesting
photovoltaic textiles, electroluminescent lamps on fabric by conductive ink and polymers.
Moreover, both screen printing and inkjet printing technology could be used to deposit the various
functional protective coating on textiles to produce different physical properties like water repellent,
UV ray absorbent, flame retardant, moisture absorbent textiles. The new branch of technology, 3D
printing–additive manufacturing, not only create an opportunity to reduce pollutants but also could
be used to produce completely personalized functional garments. And surely there are innovations
that keep evolving not only technically but

Rembrandt Analysis
The landscape etching presented here, The Three Trees, is a masterpiece created by Rembrandt
Harmenszoon van Rijn. Rembrandt was a prolific Dutch Baroque painter, printmaker, and
draughtsman, who had produced over a thousand paintings and etchings throughout his career
("Rembrandt and the Face of Jesus"). He was one of the most celebrated visual artists during the
Renaissance and one of the pioneers of the Dutch Golden Age, a period of commercial and artistic

In this landscape etching, The Three Trees, Rembrandt portrays all the Dutch landscape elements –
the flat reclaimed farmland, the dike and dale, the canal, the cityscape, and the unpredictable
weather. He adopted an elevated viewpoint with a low horizon, allowing him to devote the majority
of the canvas to the sky, which is unusual among Rembrandt's landscape etchings. In the foreground,
three trees stand on top of a dike by the canal, which are the main focuses on the etching. The
turbulence ruffles their foliage. On the lower left corner, we can see a couple sitting near the water.
The man is fishing using a fishing pole and the woman is sitting on the bush while holding a basket.
On top of the dike, there are a cart with travelers in silhouette and a draughtsman looking towards
the right, who might refer to Rembrandt himself since he was also capturing the landscape. In the
background, the etching captures the cottages in the middle of neat farmland, the cowherds with
their cattle, and the skyline of Amsterdam with the characteristic windmills and masts. The elaborate
curves and the staring lines in the sky imply an incoming rainstorm. The Three Tress is not only
intriguing in its subject matter, but also technically challenging. Rembrandt utilized multiple
printmaking techniques while creating this artwork, including etching, engraving and drypoint.
Etching is a process in which the etcher use an

Sitting Bull Essay
Andy Warhol's 2–D silkscreen print, Sitting Bull, is a very popular and controversial print from his
series Cowboys and Indians. The print is representational, based on an original archival photo of the
Sioux Chief, Sitting Bull. In the original photograph and print, the Chief is posing for a headshot
photo, with a calm facial expression and stance. In the print, the artist chose to make the chief's skin
light blue, his dress bright red, his hair dark blue, and his shape is outlined in yellow, white and blue.
As for most of Warhol's Pop style pieces, the photo was redesigned by the artist to be printed in
vivid colors and showcases a lightly colored outline of his body and shape, giving the original photo
a modern touch. The artist's work was printed using the silkscreen printing process on a 36 inch by
36 inch Lenox Museum Board paper (Sitting Bull 376, 2016). Sitting Bull is great representation of
the artist's style. Andy Warhol was a very successful illustrator and designer in New York City,
where he and other artists developed the concept of Pop art, the style in which he is famous for, and
the style he chose to recreate Sitting Bull (Andy Warhol Biography, 2016). Pop art is a modern style
of art in which the subject matter is commonplace objects and people of everyday life, seeking to
elevate the culture of the time and straying away from traditional themes such as mythology or
religion. Warhol was a pioneer of contemporary art and really had a great impact on the

The Crucifixion By Brecht Durer Analysis
Brecht Durer once said, "What beauty is, I know not, though it adheres to many things." Brecht
Durer was a German painter, print maker, and theorist who was born on May 21, 1471 and died on
April 6, 1528 in Nuremberg, Germany. His extensive work in printmaking established his reputation
in Europe, making him one of the leading artists of the Renaissance period. "A print is a work of art
made up of ink on paper and existing in multiple examples." Durer's woodcut prints often depicted
religious subjects and revealed technical skills that had never before been seen. Woodcut is a
technique in printmaking where the artist carves images from a piece of wood. Then it is covered
with a thin layer of ink so the carved parts remain ink–less. His woodcut piece, The Crucifixion, was
made in Nuremberg, Germany in 1498 during the Northern Renaissance period. This print is one out

After Christ was captured, he was flogged with a lead–tipped whip and mocked for being the "King

Simon had to carry his cross. The Romans nailed his wrists and ankles to the cross, and at nine
o'clock in the morning, he was crucified. There was a darkness that fell across the land from noon to
three o'clock. When the darkness vanished, Christ called out to God, saying "My God, my God, why
have you forsaken me?" The viewers were confused, as they thought he was calling out to a prophet
to save him from his fate and they decided to see if the prophet would come. However, the only
thing that happened was Christ cry as his soul was leaving his body and ascending into Heaven.

Visit The Leepa Rattner Museum
For my museum trip I chose to visit the Leepa–Rattner museum in Tarpon Springs. I have never
been to an art museum before so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. With that being said, I must
admit I really found enjoyment from the distinctive emphasis that artists put within many of these
images. Furthermore, it is truly amazing how you can gaze at a work of art and begin to establish an
idea of the narrative being told within the image. The Leepa–Rattner museum is not very large, and
it did not take very long to view everything that was on display. But to a great degree, I was
fascinated with the workmanship and focus of many of the paintings. The museum was very
beautiful, and the architecture was very well done as well. The building presents an image of a ship
at sea. Additionally, I really valued the size of the museum, which is not huge, yet rather more
personal and relaxed. I found a few of the works strong and persuasive, and the more diminutive
size keeps things in perspective.
The first painting that really drew my attention was the full sized image by Picasso called Guernica.
The proportion and balance of the painting is astounding. The scene portrayed in Guernica is a room
filled with moving, shouting and anguished adults, and creatures. Also, I was told by someone at the
museum one of the more fascinating parts of the piece, and that is that it is done in monochrome.
Generally, Picasso was known for his energetic abstract and cubist works of art, so why did he

Analysis Of The Book ' The Principle '
Selected lithograph Paper (Edited) The "The Principle" was lithographed in 1918 by the artist
named "Oskar Kokoschka". The Principle is a stationary, bust sculpture like lithograph that depicts a
sad laughing clown. The lithograph seems like it takes place in a large bare room with the clown
bust gazing up and to the right of the room as if is pondering or thinking and has been for a very
long time which gives the bust like lithography life.
The Principle, was published in 1919 on cream, smooth, Japanese woven paper. Was published by
Verlag Gustav Kiepenheuer from Berlin with the theme of death and war with political. The art work
has blood splatter all over it, especially from the mouth the meaning is war with the clown face
showing some type of comic sadness, and sadness is the heart of all comedy.
He was friends with a sculptor and critic named Adolf Loos, which influenced Oskar to turn away
from many of his old ways of decorative ideas and move on an expressive style of painting. 1910 he
was in contact with many expressionist circles in Berlin, one specifically was Herwarth Walden who
pushed and spread his work out to many others. Oskar was in the Great War, he volunteered for the
Austrian Army when the war started, but was heavily wounded in 1915 and left the army. From
1916 to 1931 a fellow named Paul Cassirer who supported and showed many of Oskar works of art

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Linocut
Linocut –A block made of linoleum
–Carving tools –Paper fabrics
Linocut is a form of relief printing in which the artist cuts a design into the surface of the block.
Then a mirror image is created when the artist places a paper or fabric over the surface and presses
down with a hand or a roller. The raised parts of the piece transfer over on to the paper or fabric to
create the overall desired print. Linocut has both benefits and drawbacks as a form of printmaking.
The major benefit of this form of art is that it is softer than wood making it easier to carve and use.
Another benefit is that color can be added to the prints. However, there are several drawbacks of
using linocut such as linoleum "wears down more quickly under pressure, ... Show more content on

The artist first coats the metal plate in an acid–resistant substance known as ground and is drawn on.
The artist then uses a sharp tool or etching needle down to the plate. "Hard grounds are employed
for finely detailed linear work. Soft ground can also be used, and virtually any tool can be used to
expose the plate and resembles crayon and pencil drawings" (Sayre, 2012). Whichever ground is
used by the artist is then placed in an acid bath. "The acid eats, or etches, into the plate where the
lines have been drawn; the longer the exposed plate is left in the bath, and the stronger the solution,
the greater the width and depth of the etched line" (Sayre, 2012). An artist can also create a way in
stopping out a section by using varnishes or ground over the etched surface. Once the plate is
finished being exposed to acid, it is inked and printed. Etching has both benefits and drawbacks.
Some of the benefits to etching are that it is a fluid and free process and it is able to capture the
sense of immediacy as a sketch. However, some drawbacks to etching include "it is a medium that
requires calculations and planning, an ability to manipulate chemicals, and a willingness to risk
losing everything in order to achieve the desired effect" (Sayre,

Silent Words in Art
The Magdalen with a smoking flame is an art piece that was done by George De La Tour in 1640.
De La Tour painted this work using oil and paint on a material known as canvas. This painting was
created in France then it was moved to the one of the most respected museums of the Los Angeles
county Museum of art. The size of the painting is 128cm by 94cm, by looking at this painting the
elements that were used are very noticeable the texture in this work gives it a very smooth and rough
feel at the same time. Looking at the painting Magdalen is sitting vertically in this painting and so is
the flame . The value of this art piece is stands out as we can see all the light that illuminates
Magdalen and part of the wall. You can also see that Mary Magdalen is thinking of something that is
unknown to us. All of the objects in the painting including the, Skull, Book, lamp, and lighting of
the candle make up the unity of this image, to better identify what Mary may be thinking as she
meditates on the flame. In this painting the light is what calls the attention to the art. "Magdalen is
an actual character that was drawn from the bible as she sitting in solitude and gazing into a simple
flame lamp"(Louvre, de Musee Paris).
This painting is a very religious work of art because the skull symbolizes the suffering of Jesus
Christ. De
La Tour is most known for depicting scenes from the bible and characters. The books that are on top

Challenging Society Through Art.
Challenging Society Through Art
Art makes a statement, it is as simple as that. The most preferred type of art emotes happiness to the
viewer throughout all of history. Yet, throughout the years, artists have come to challenge society's
preference of art. Artists like Gustave Courbet, Francisco Goya, and Ai Weiwei, who decided to take
the challenge and start a new progression. Social critique through art is blatantly shown throughout
each of their pieces: Stonebreakers, The Third of May 1808, and Sunflower Seeds. All three are
similar yet different. Through comparison, a similar theme still remains present: Each artist 's social
critique through their artwork. These particular types of artwork will show how one moment in
history changed the view of millions throughout centuries of time. With the use of symbolism,
positioning of figures, historical context, color usage, and many other elements, these three works of
art make an inspiring statement to the world.
The first painting, Stone Breakers by Gustave Courbet depicts two males that go to work breaking
stone and wearing torn and tattered clothing. This job was usually done by the lower classes of
society. At this time in France there was a rising of revolutionary thinking. The reason for the
sudden outbreak involved many factors, the ones portrayed in this painting are the demands of the
working classes. The figures are not arranged in the typical way. Both the young and the old males
are turned away from the viewer.

Symbolism of Albrecht Durer Essay
Symbolism of Albrecht Durer Albrecht Durer completed the "Master Engravings" in the years 1513
and 1514. With these three engravings (Knight, Death, and Devil, St. Jerome in His Study, and
Melencolia I) he reached the high point of his artistic expression and concentration. each print
represents a different philosophical perspective on the "worlds" respectively of action, spirit, and
intellect. Although Durer himself evidently did not think of the three as a set, He sometimes sold or
gave St. Jerome and Melencolia I as a pair.
In the engraving, Knight, Death, and Devil, it appears that the hero (the Knight) is gaining a moral
victory over death. The Knight has often been interpreted as Erasmus's sturdy Christian soldier who

Death also has snakes encircling his head and neck as he slides up to the Knight and tries in vain to
frighten him by holding up an hourglass while the swine–snouted Devil sneaks up behind him with a
pickaxe. Their failed attempt to capture the rider's attention conveys the idea of unconquerable
progress.
The 1514 engraving of 'St. Jerome in his Study' is chronologically approximately in the middle of
the group, but it shows the deepest penetration of the subject. The Saint has ceased to be a legendary
figure and has become the symbol of learned existence and felicity. St. Jerome is working at the far
end of the room, which in itself gives the impression of remoteness and peace. His little desk is
placed on a large table which otherwise holds nothing but an inkpot and a crucifix. Engrossed in his
writing, he if blissfully alone with his thoughts, with his animals, and with his God. The cell, which
in previous versions was always more or less cave–like, cold and drear, has now become a warm,
comfortable, Late Gothic study; the lion is now really a household pet, blinking peacefully, with a
dog asleep at his side. The landscape element is restricted to the morning sun shining in at the
window and intimated by the great gourd, transformed into a household plant. Even this harmless
gourd has not escaped the attention of the learned seekers after hidden meanings. Wustmann

Upcomng Advances in 3D Printing
Introduction [271]
3D printing is a means of revolutionising almost any and all aspects of life. The potential to bringing
into the physical world anything that can be conceived in the mind (and created on a computer)
brings a myriad of variety ; expanding markets and capabilities, whether new or improving products
and processes that are already in practice. 3D printers are falling in price as the technology improves
and the want for them increases making the ability to create anything domestically more practical ,
this would allow for an influx of material that would be hard to control or monitor, this can include
guns, weapons and equipment for drugs manufacture along with the mundane domestic items like
faucets, plugs or pots. Such a possibility would involve the morals of the manufacturer and the
ethics of the wider collective that have an input on the advancements, though there are other
limitations that play a part in the progression of 3D printing that are independent of ethics. As the
technology and concept has the potential to create anything, it doesn't not yet have the capability to
do so therefore the anticipation of the possibilities is the only preparation the 3D printing industry
can do, as a result I shall conduct an investigation looking at the extent of ethical and moral
influences as well as physical and scientific limitations and how they could limit any potential
advancements, in accordance with the resulting benefits from some upcoming advancements in

Analysis Of El Buen Pastor By Luis Jimenez
Luis Jimenez's piece titled El Buen Pastor (The Good Shepherd) from the Winthrop Rockefeller
Gallery represents the react against the seminal post–war American movement. The works of art
were chosen by a Contemporary and Modern collection created during the past century. The
commonality amongst the works of art that lead to them being displayed together was the abstract
expressionism; all the paintings reacted against the seminal post–war American movement. This
piece was made in 1998 as a depiction of the murder of Esequiel of Redford, Texas while he tended
his goats. The piece's present location is the Arkansas Arts Center, and its original location is the
Lawrence Lithography Workshop in Saint Louis, Missouri. The piece is water color and crayon on
paper, and it can only be seen from one side by looking up because it is hanging on the wall. The
subject of the work of art by Jiménez is a young man tending his goats who was shot by assassins
because they thought he was a drug smuggler. This work of art was made in 1998 in Saint Louis,
Missouri for Esequiel Hernandez. This painting was not a copy, it was originally made. The art was
made after similar works. The technique used was lithograph (water color) and crayon on paper. The
painting was a pretty nice size, more on the bigger side. Luis Jimenez is the artist of El Buen Pastor

Shakespeare was a great writer and penned dramas, comedies, and tragedies. (Backman, 530). One
of the pieces is a beautiful print, A Midsummer Night's Dream (Shakespeare, Act 4, Scene 1), is a
print which was engraved after Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (1802 – 1873), from London. The British
engraver, Samuel Cousins (1801 – 1887), created the print in November 1857, using a mixed
method engraving process with mezzotint, on chine coolé. Upon viewing the print, it is engaging as
the characters are expressive and detailed despite the absence of bright colors. The reproduction
represents Bottom, the weaver with a head of an ass being favored by the fairy queen Titania. They
are surrounded by fairies, and enchanted animals while the sprite, Puck watches from behind. The
technique of mezzotint originated in the seventeenth century by a German inventor, Ludwig von
Siegen. Mezzotint was a laborious method which used an engraved metal plate. The highly skilled
artist, engraved or pricked by hand, the plate making numerous small holes that would hold ink.
When the plate was filled with ink, it would create large areas of tone to reproduce a painting.
During the seventeenth through the nineteenth centuries, according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica,
"mezzotints were the only means most people had of becoming acquainted with the paintings of
major artists". After the invention of photography in the nineteenth century, the use of mezzotint was
rare. Upon learning more on the subject of the print, and the techniques used to create the print, the

The construction of the picture space, impeccably correct from a mathematical point of view, is
characterized, first, by the extreme shortness of the perspective distance which, if the room were
drawn to natural scale, would amount to only about four feet; second, by the lowness of the horizon
which is determined by the eye level of the seated Saint; third, by the eccentric position of the
vanishing point which is little more than half a centimeter from the right margin. The shortness of
the distance, combined with the lowness of the horizon strengthens the feeling of intimacy.
However, the vanishing point prevents the small room from looking cramped and box–like because
the north wall is not visible; it gives greater distinction to the play of light on the embrasures of the
windows; and it suggests the experience of casually entering a private room rather than of facing an
artificially arranged stage.
Finally, Durer himself christened his engraving; with the inscription ‘Melencolia'. (Fig. 3) Durer
also interpreted two of the attributes of the seated female figure; he noted down on one occasion:
‘the key means power; the purse means wealth.' Durer has also told us quite clearly what he
understood by melancholy. And we also know something about his spiritual condition at the time
when he made this engraving – in May 1514,

How Does Randall Jarrell Use the Imagery in Durer’s...
How does Randall Jarrell use the imagery in Durer's engraving of the knight, the devil and death to
symbolically convey a philosophy of life using powerful poetic devices?
'The knight, Death and the Devil' poem written by Randall Jarrell, based on the engraving by
German artist 'Albert Durer' depicting a valiant knight, on horseback treading along the path of life.
A path beset on all sides by many obstacles, and the dark forces ranged against the knight in his
journey. Created in 1513, Durer's engraving's key characters include a Knight in armour, riding
along a narrow road with the grinning devil at one end and on the other, a figure of death in the form
of deceased knight. Jarrell uses the elements of the vivid imagery contained in ... Show more content

The fourth and final stanza portrays externalizations of our feelings for Death and the Devil thus
making them allegorical figures.
'Death of his own flesh, set up outside him
The flesh of his own soul, set up outside him'
Jarrell uses repetition as a device in the final stanza to emphasize the importance and allegory of
these figures towards the Knight.
'His being accuses him –yet his face is firm'
The alliteration of face and firm exaggerates the strength of the Knight, to reinforce the meaning of
his power in the reader's mind.
'In resolution, in absolute persistence
The folds of smiling do for steadiness
The face is its own fate–a man does what he must–
And the body underneath it says I am.'
Randall Jarrell includes another allegory to explain how the Knight kept a steady state of mind to
strengthen the body to not display his real feelings in his soul. His look completed him, and
determining his own fate by forcing a straight face.
Imagery has been used historically to convey morality. Jarrell is using imagery in a similar way to
reinforce and decorate the poem in a profound way by contrasting the robust and valiant figure of
the Knight onto everything that we come

Can a Small Business Keep Up in Society Today?
Growing up with a father that owned a small business, I have learned that it's hard to make it in a
society like today. A couple years ago I became one of his employees, and I've noticed that there
have been changes made to the business. I was always curious what it was like before I started
working there. Owning a small town business in a world full of online shopping can be difficult, but
O'Henry's is continuing to make money because of offering the broader variety of clothing,
investing in advanced technology for graphic design, and utilizing social media.
One difference between O'Henry's now than in the past would be the the type of merchandise they
have to offer. When the business first opened in the small town of Cresco, Iowa, the owners, Phil
Henry and Jackie Lickteig, were just like every other new business. They were new to everything,
and it became a little overwhelming at times. Phil and Jackie are brother and sister, and had a
screen–printing business at their house in the basement for a couple years. After a few years, they
decided they wanted to move the business to town where they would have many more opportunities.
When asked if opening a business in a small town was a risk taker, he responded, "I was pretty
confident because it is something that everyone wears every day in one way or another, so I knew I
was going to have customers" Phil and Jackie didn't have much to offer for clothing at the
beginning. It

Francisco Goya and Vincent Van Gogh
A Giant Seated in a Landscape, sometimes called The Colossus by Francisco de Goya y Lucientes
and Peasant Woman Cooking by a Fireplace that was painted by Vincent Van Gogh are two very
meaningful artworks. Regarding their nationalities, Goya's artwork's geographic location is Spain
while Van Gogh's is Dutch. Goya's art is an etching that is part of the romanticism movement.
Contrary to Goya's, Van Gogh's painting was created during the time of the post–impressionism art
movement. These two artworks contrast each other very well, while also containing a few
similarities with each other. Both artists depict a simple yet strong message in their artworks, ...

David Milne : An Artist, Who Captured The Essence Of...
David Milne was a painter, printmaker, and writer, who captured the essence of Canadian art. Milne
showed a pure aesthetic approach to his work that was dependant of his specific formula. Essentially
Milne sought to reduce a painting to the basic form. David Milne was born on January 8, 1882, in a
southern Ontario village named Burgoyne. David was the last of ten children to his Scottish
immigrant parents. David Milne was born to be an artist, he began drawing even before starting
kindergarten, and ironically enough the only subject he had ever failed in elementary school was
drawing. Although Milne spent most of his artists' career in the United States and received much
adulation in New York, in Canada he was well known as a Canadian nationalist and monarchist. In
his practices David used predominately oil paint, water color and drypoint printmaking. Milne's
work was similar in context and location compared to the Group of Seven, he primarily choose
landscape as an image of interest. Unlike the Group of Seven, David approached his paintings with a
more modern feel and developed his own particular style that was beautiful and simple. His
landscapes and still images portrayed a sense of touch and feel. While the subject of Milne's choice
was from the visible world, streets, people and landscapes he portrayed a modernist style that he had
learned in New York. Milne formally believed that the elements such as line, color, shape, and
composition were predominating in any piece

Albrecht Durer Influence

  • 1. Albrecht Durer Influence Albrecht Durer was a German known for his engravings and painting throughout Europe. He lived from 1471–1528 and during that time made a great impact on the world of art. Durer was raised by his father and godfather, who were a goldsmith, and printer/publisher, respectively. From these men he learned his basic art skills such as drawing and woodcutting. His experience with his family as a child lead to his expertise in painting, printmaking, engraving, math, and theology. Durer, also often thought about the different proportions that are seen in a human body, which influenced his future work, such as his Adam and Eve paintings. He is known to be the first northern European to have been influenced by things going on with the Italian Renaissance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the painting, Eve stands by an evil serpent and is falling for his lies and charm while eating an apple. On the other side of the painting, Adam is holding the apple that he received from Eve. Adam and Eve are naked in the paintings, which represents their purity and innocence. They do however use leaves to cover the private areas of their body. The paintings were made to be life sized. Both, Adam and Eve are shown to be tall and muscular. Durer did not put too much detail in the background because he did not want the background to be a distraction from the beauty of Adam and Eve. Adam appears to be hesitant in the painting, with his right hand open in an almost defensive kind of matter. Eve on the other hand looks like she is trying to persuade Adam of something. The painting is an example of implied time and motion because these actions are being implied and it is hard to know for sure what the actual motions will continue to be, all we know for sure is that both characters have different things on their mind by the way they are holding their bodies and their facial ... • 5. The Works Of Francisco De Goya Francisco de Goya was born in 1746 in the village of Fuendetodos in Aragon. He started studying painting before the age of 14. Goya lived in Spain during the French occupation in 1808 that led to the Peninsular War of 1808–1814;therefore, the war changed Goya's paints pallet from bright colors to dark colors. Goya painted the struggle the Spanish people went through. For instance, he painted The Third of May and The Disaster of The War series. Goya also suffered from a severe and undiagnosed illness in ,1793, which left him completely deaf. This was another reason leading to his darker paintings. Also Josefa's death affected Goya's painting, while he was mentally and emotionally processing the war by painting the Second of May, 1808 and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Goya's painted a man who is about to be shot, men who have just been shot, and line of men who are about to be shot. Goya makes us see the Spanish people's faces, and their emotions, to make us have empathy. In the other hand, the solders lined up with their backs toward us leave us with no feeling for them. Saturn Devouring His Son is another painting by Goya. It was painted from 1819 to 1823. According to the traditional interpretation, it depicts the Greek myth of the Titan Cronus . Saturn Devouring His Son is one of Goya's darkest paintings. It was painted directly onto the wall of his house. The painting is about Saturn, the God of time, who was told that one of his sons will dethrone him. In order to prevent that Saturn devoured his children as they were born, but Jupiter escaped so Saturn in the end was dethroned and couldn't escape. This terrifying story is depicted in a horrific way in this painting. We can see the horror in Saturn's eyes as he pulls his son's arm into his mouth. He is trying to seek revenge, and tells us that no one can take away what he has. Also Saturn's facial expression gives us the feeling that Saturn knows that he is not doing the right thing, so he tries to do it as quickly as possible, he is trying not to listen to his heart, but to listen to his head only. Although this is his son, he thinks he shouldn't feel sorry for him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Saturn Devouring His Son Research Paper The Myth of Saturn Devouring His Son The myth of Saturn devouring his son is a dark, morbid, and ghoulish story. The Greek Titan, Saturn overthrew is father and married the goddess of fertility. Saturn then learned of a prophecy that one of his sons would overthrow him like he did his father. He then became obsessed with thwarting the prophecy. At the birth of each child, Saturn would devour the infant. Saturn's wife hid their last child, Zeus, whom fully grown, fulfilled the prophecy and became ruler of the Olympians. There are rumors that Saturn would get sexual pleasure out of consuming his children but that has never been confirmed. Many artists over the years have painted this myth, putting their own creative twist on it. Two very well–known artists who drew inspiration from the myth are Francisco Goya with his work Saturn Devouring His Son (1819–1823) and Peter Paul Rubens' Title (1636) Francisco Goya, (1746–1828) was a Spanish artist often is known to sometimes be called "the father of modern art." ... Saturn is holding a long metal tool that looks like a royal staff and like the scythe of Death. The stars in the sky above him could be a sign of the planet named after him. The child in his arms has his head thrown back screaming and the audience can see the horrified look on his face. Saturn's head is down with a look of determination as he tears his son's flesh. Rubens paints the flesh being torn off the child, and the viewer's eye is drawn directly there. Rubens highlights this horrible act of cannibalism with realistic looking figures, and Saturn's total lack of remorse helps us see how evil his act is. • 14. Does such a market exist? Absolutely. Taking just Hyderabad into consideration Shilaparamam proves to be a perfect example. A meeting point for artists and art lovers. Each year, thousands of cross cultural artists from all across the country share a common ground at Shilparamam. Another good example could be Numaish (industrial exhibition). These are just two large scale examples. Each week or month there are various flea markets that thrive throughout the city. These are all unorganized sectors. Now imagine bringing all that fabulous and diverse art on one forum, one place. That is artAberrants for you. Is this venture socially relevant? Like any other industry, earning a name in the art industry can take years and only with viable recognition do art houses take interest in the artists. Many a times it becomes immensely tough for talented artists to sustain in those years of struggle as both their means and opportunities are often limited. Many talented artists agree to sell their work for a meager price, many quit making art in the first place. In the process the middlemen end up making the money while the artists suffer greatly. This leads to not just exploitation of the artists, but exploitation of art itself. We want to fill this void that exists between the consumers of art and the artists. Thus, this ... • 18. Analysis Of Pop Art Of Andy Warhol Andy Warhol's 2–D silkscreen print, Sitting Bull, is a very popular and controversial print from his series Cowboys and Indians. The print is representational, based on an original archival photo of the Sioux Chief, Sitting Bull. In the original photograph and print, the Chief is posing for a headshot photo, with a calm facial expression and stance. The chief has two long braids to both sides of his head and a feather on his head. In the print, the artist chose to make the chief's skin light blue, his dress bright red, his hair and braids dark blue, and his shape is outlined in yellow, white and blue, drawing attention to the subject. As for most of Warhol's Pop style pieces, the photo was redesigned by the artist to be printed in vivid colors and showcases a lightly colored outline of his body and shape, giving the original photo a modern touch. Modernism, Postmodernism and Escher: Relate Escher's lithographs Magic Mirror, Print Gallery, Waterfall and Relativity to Borges and Kafka's work. What aspects and/or themes of their work could these prints illustrate? What Modernist and Postmodernist characteristics do you find in them? Mauritius Cornelis (M.C.) Escher was a Dutch artist that focused on drawing and printmaking. In correlation with Escher's work, the themes of his pieces often centered the impossible. These creative ideas present Modernist and Postmodernist characteristics, as they draw on the subconscious and fragmentary nature of human life. In the lithograph Magic Mirror, there is a large emphasis placed on the fictional winged–lion, while Print Gallery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this work, Marquez focuses on corruption as Senator Onesimo Sanchez accepts pay offs from his people. As specified by the text, "In this story he is clearly a corrupt politician who accepts bribes and stays in power by helping the local property owners avoid reform" (2053). Accordingly, in the text, Sanchez speaks at a rally and knowingly presents promises that he does not intend to keep. In the text, it states,"We will no longer be foundlings in our own country, orphans of God in a realm of thirst and bad climate, exiles in our own land. We will be different people, ladies and gentlemen, we will be a great and happy people," (2056). This quote emphasizes that Sanchez deceives his people in order to stay in power. Additionally, Sanchez encounters Nelson Farina, who is an escaped convict that continuously begs him for a false–identification card. Thus, Farina sends his daughter, Laura, to seduce Sanchez into providing him with an ID. However, Laura is wearing a chastity–belt that her father uses to persuade Sanchez into delivering his request. Ultimately, these ideas relate to the theme of corruption as Sanchez relays and performs deals based on his own satisfaction. Another theme within the story is loneliness. This theme is prominent in the work, because Sanchez suffers alone due to his underlying alienation. Sanchez is a husband and a father, yet he never tells any of them that he has six months and eleven days to live. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. The Relief and Intaglio Printmaking Process Describe the Relief Printmaking process. List an artist who uses the form of printmaking. Refer to this video for more information. The Relief Printmaking process is a printmaking process in which someone covers a block of material, such as wood, in ink. Then they proceed to deeply etch out the inked surface in the form of a design. Once that is done, they lay paper over the block with pressure so that the ink is shared generously all over the paper. When the paper is removed, the design will have been transferred and they will have the finished artwork. Using a block of wood is known as Woodcut Relief Printmaking, or "Woodcuts". There are also Wood Engravings, where a stronger type of wood is used so an artist can engrave an image into the surface rather than cut it out. In my opinion, the second step of the process could be left to remain as the art itself. In the video showing the process as Lyell Castonguay created his piece, "Hydra", I thought the design in the ink coated wood looked more bold and real than the actually piece. But this may only be for the reason that the finished product lacked color in comparison. Of course, Lyell isn't the only artist who uses this printmaking process. Another artist who uses Relief Printmaking is Katsushika Hokusai. Hokusai used the same process to create his color woodcut piece called "South Wind, Clear Sky", a portrayal of Mount Fuji. These works inspired Leo Steinberg's theorization of the "flatbed picture plane." This term was posited in his essay "Reflections on the State of Criticism." The essay's first manifestation was as a lecture given at the Museum of Modern Art in March 1968, and was subsequently published in Artforum in 1972. Notably, it was also the title essay in Steinberg's book Other Criteria: Confrontation with Twentieth–Century Art, of 1972. Steinberg's notion of the flatbed picture plane has several facets. This picture plane relies on the actual flatness of the painting's surface, the horizontality of the work's construction and reception, an interaction between ... The Album of La Revue Blanche, a collection of prints commissioned by the late 19th century Parisian anarchist journal, provides not only an insight into popular fin–de–siècle French print culture, but also a beautiful case–study in the techniques developed by leading artists in the realm of fine art lithography. It is the goal of this exhibit to explore the place of the graphic arts in early modern art through the example of this journal, and to examine more closely the stylistic hallmarks of the lithograph in a more detailed way. Lithography: Method Lithography is planographic printing process that makes use of the immiscibility of grease and water. In the lithographic process, ink is applied to a grease–treated image on the flat printing surface. Non–image areas hold moisture and repel the lithographic ink. This inked surface is then printed by means of a special press as in most fine–art printmaking . The earliest–though no longer the only–method of creating lithographs involved the use of a block of porous limestone. An image is drawn with "tusche"– a carbon pigment in liquid form, and "litho" crayon – a type of grease pencil– before the printing surface is fixed, moistened, and inked in preparation for printing. The printing itself is done on a press that exerts a sliding pressure, and because it undergoes virtually no wear in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Should Graffiti Be Banned And Graffiti Artists Be Banned? Should graffiti be banned and graffiti artists be prosecuted? This and a variety of related questions have been increasingly perplexing society as a result of the popularization of graffiti, starting with dissemination of its works in New York City in the early 1980s (346). Since then, graffiti artists have both been banned and cherished, deprived of their work and allowed in art galleries. Thus, another question has been raised: Should graffiti be considered art or a form of communication with aesthetics on a background? This question is addressed in the essay, "Revolution in a Can," written by Blake Gopnik and first published in the November 2011 edition of Foreign Policy (345). In the essay, Gopnik presents an argument that essentially divides the world of graffiti in two spheres: Western and non–Western. In the former, graffiti has gone from being a means of speaking against prevailing inequalities to "[saddling] with the oldest high–culture clichés" associated with art (346). While in the latter, graffiti is used to communicate ideas and to "[speak] truth to power" (346). Ultimately, what is at stake here is how do we accept and identify new forms of self–expression which are vital to human development? While many can agree that the likelihood of a person running into graffiti in a Western art gallery is greater than doing so in the non–Western world, the act of regionally dividing the purpose of art seems questionable to say the least. Albert Durer's Whore Of Babylon Albert Durer's Whore of Babylon, from the Apocalypse The Whore of Babylon woodcut by Albert Durer was one of fifteen woodcuts in his famous series, The Apocalypse which was published in 1498. This woodcut series portrays scenes from the book of Revelation in the bible, concerning the end of the world. It was created at a time when Europe anticipated the "Last Judgement", as Germany was experiencing plagues, religious debates, and peasant movements towards the end of the 15th century. Durer became wealthy and rapidly well known across Europe because of this series. He began working on these woodcuts on his trip to Italy in 1494–1495, and the first two editions were published in 1498 in Nuremberg, Germany, in both German and Latin. He later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is due to the use of a tool, a burin, to create extremely thin and subtle lines in an engraving. The medium used for an engraving is metal and is created using an intaglio method. Unlike the relief process of printmaking, this process is a positive one. The artist scratches the image onto the metal plate, inks the surface of it, and wipes it clean. As a result, ink is placed into the carved out drawing. Next, the plate is run through a roller press which causes the ink to absorb to the paper. The difference in appearance between a relief print and an intaglio print is because of essentially drawing the image to be created onto the metal plate for an intaglio print. Also cross–hatching, the use of fine parallel lines to create the illusion of shade, allowed for more subtle shading in the engraving. This engraving portrays the melancholy personality of artists and Durer, himself. It is suggested that the winged figure represents Durer because of the location of his monogram or logo underneath the bench that figure is sitting on. Her pondering stance represents an artistic genius who is looking for inspiration, but cannot find it, therefore experiences despair in her/himself. The winged child sitting to the left of the winged female, represents anxiety that the uninspired artist could be experiencing. In addition, in the upper left corner, a bat is found with the words "melencholia" beside it. The bat represents melancholy because it only appears or comes out at night and is linked with the darkness. Durer contrasts melancholy and the light of inspiration by associating this bat in the dark sky with rays of light. Essentially, because of the wood medium used in the Whore Of Babylon, lines appear broader, whereas using metal as a medium allowed the Melencollia engraving to display more subtle lines and ... • 58. How Does Goya Design Transcend Into Modern Caricature And... Baudelaire once said, "Caricatures are often the most faithful mirror of life." The art of caricature was established into print in eighteenth–century England as a form of commentary on the current events of the time. Caricature as a style itself is a combination of two separate social inventions. "Caricature Adopting the Italian invention of caricatura–the graphic exaggeration of facial and bodily features for comic effect and combining it with an updated repertoire of visual metaphor, personification, and allegorical attributes. " Though born in England, the story about to be told in this paper is one of Spanish origin, a story about Francisco Goya. This paper will discuss how Goya implemented painting, drawing, and printing technique to stimulate social critique of and satirize the subjects of his works. Then how does Goya's methodology transcend into modern caricature and social critique? Before one can talk about his prints, one must understand who Francisco Goya is as an artist. Goya was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker of late 18th and early 19th centuries and throughout his long career was an important commentator and chronicler of his era. Goya produced a great number of works in a variety of media in his lifetime. He did religious subjects in painted frescos and portraits, he then also depicted life in Spain through aquatints, etchings, and lithographs . While he was highly credited with these artworks, he was a man of many mediums, studying in these as well as painting, printmaking and sculpting. He had a strong passion for the arts from an early age, as many of the greats did, and it was sharpened into what we know now as the great works of Honore Daumier. He was born in Marseille, France, living with his father Jean–Baptiste Louise Daumier and Cecile Cathrine Philippe in 1808. His father was a glazier, but his profession was not earning his family enough to live on. The practice was dying, and he left to Paris in 1814 to pursue his artistic inclinations as a poet. He worked to become successful, and was able to have his work seen by the king and was able to have a few of his works published. In 1816, Daumier and his mother followed Jean–Baptiste to Paris. In this landscape etching, The Three Trees, Rembrandt portrays all the Dutch landscape elements – the flat reclaimed farmland, the dike and dale, the canal, the cityscape, and the unpredictable weather. He adopted an elevated viewpoint with a low horizon, allowing him to devote the majority of the canvas to the sky, which is unusual among Rembrandt's landscape etchings. In the foreground, three trees stand on top of a dike by the canal, which are the main focuses on the etching. The turbulence ruffles their foliage. On the lower left corner, we can see a couple sitting near the water. The man is fishing using a fishing pole and the woman is sitting on the bush while holding a basket. The print is representational, based on an original archival photo of the Sioux Chief, Sitting Bull. • 93. Visit The Leepa Rattner Museum For my museum trip I chose to visit the Leepa–Rattner museum in Tarpon Springs. I have never been to an art museum before so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. With that being said, I must admit I really found enjoyment from the distinctive emphasis that artists put within many of these images. Furthermore, it is truly amazing how you can gaze at a work of art and begin to establish an idea of the narrative being told within the image. The Leepa–Rattner museum is not very large, and it did not take very long to view everything that was on display. But to a great degree, I was fascinated with the workmanship and focus of many of the paintings. The museum was very beautiful, and the architecture was very well done as well. The building presents an image of a ship at sea. Additionally, I really valued the size of the museum, which is not huge, yet rather more personal and relaxed. I found a few of the works strong and persuasive, and the more diminutive size keeps things in perspective. The first painting that really drew my attention was the full sized image by Picasso called Guernica. The proportion and balance of the painting is astounding. The scene portrayed in Guernica is a room filled with moving, shouting and anguished adults, and creatures. Also, I was told by someone at the museum one of the more fascinating parts of the piece, and that is that it is done in monochrome. Generally, Picasso was known for his energetic abstract and cubist works of art, so why did he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 97. Analysis Of The Book ' The Principle ' Selected lithograph Paper (Edited) The "The Principle" was lithographed in 1918 by the artist named "Oskar Kokoschka". The Principle is a stationary, bust sculpture like lithograph that depicts a sad laughing clown. The lithograph seems like it takes place in a large bare room with the clown bust gazing up and to the right of the room as if is pondering or thinking and has been for a very long time which gives the bust like lithography life. The Principle, was published in 1919 on cream, smooth, Japanese woven paper. Was published by Verlag Gustav Kiepenheuer from Berlin with the theme of death and war with political. The art work has blood splatter all over it, especially from the mouth the meaning is war with the clown face showing some type of comic sadness, and sadness is the heart of all comedy. He was friends with a sculptor and critic named Adolf Loos, which influenced Oskar to turn away from many of his old ways of decorative ideas and move on an expressive style of painting. 1910 he was in contact with many expressionist circles in Berlin, one specifically was Herwarth Walden who pushed and spread his work out to many others. Oskar was in the Great War, he volunteered for the Austrian Army when the war started, but was heavily wounded in 1915 and left the army. From 1916 to 1931 a fellow named Paul Cassirer who supported and showed many of Oskar works of art in his gallery and published many of his works, during this time Oskar had moved to Dresden in 1917 and ... Advantages And Disadvantages Of Linocut Linocut –A block made of linoleum –Carving tools –Paper fabrics Linocut is a form of relief printing in which the artist cuts a design into the surface of the block. Then a mirror image is created when the artist places a paper or fabric over the surface and presses down with a hand or a roller. The raised parts of the piece transfer over on to the paper or fabric to create the overall desired print. Linocut has both benefits and drawbacks as a form of printmaking. The major benefit of this form of art is that it is softer than wood making it easier to carve and use. Another benefit is that color can be added to the prints. However, there are several drawbacks of using linocut such as linoleum "wears down more quickly under pressure, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The artist first coats the metal plate in an acid–resistant substance known as ground and is drawn on. The artist then uses a sharp tool or etching needle down to the plate. "Hard grounds are employed for finely detailed linear work. Soft ground can also be used, and virtually any tool can be used to expose the plate and resembles crayon and pencil drawings" (Sayre, 2012). Whichever ground is used by the artist is then placed in an acid bath. "The acid eats, or etches, into the plate where the lines have been drawn; the longer the exposed plate is left in the bath, and the stronger the solution, the greater the width and depth of the etched line" (Sayre, 2012). An artist can also create a way in stopping out a section by using varnishes or ground over the etched surface. Once the plate is finished being exposed to acid, it is inked and printed. Etching has both benefits and drawbacks. Some of the benefits to etching are that it is a fluid and free process and it is able to capture the sense of immediacy as a sketch. However, some drawbacks to etching include "it is a medium that requires calculations and planning, an ability to manipulate chemicals, and a willingness to risk losing everything in order to achieve the desired effect" (Sayre, ... De La Tour painted this work using oil and paint on a material known as canvas. This painting was created in France then it was moved to the one of the most respected museums of the Los Angeles county Museum of art. The size of the painting is 128cm by 94cm, by looking at this painting the elements that were used are very noticeable the texture in this work gives it a very smooth and rough feel at the same time. Looking at the painting Magdalen is sitting vertically in this painting and so is the flame . The value of this art piece is stands out as we can see all the light that illuminates Magdalen and part of the wall. You can also see that Mary Magdalen is thinking of something that is unknown to us. All of the objects in the painting including the, Skull, Book, lamp, and lighting of the candle make up the unity of this image, to better identify what Mary may be thinking as she meditates on the flame. In this painting the light is what calls the attention to the art. "Magdalen is an actual character that was drawn from the bible as she sitting in solitude and gazing into a simple flame lamp"(Louvre, de Musee Paris). This painting is a very religious work of art because the skull symbolizes the suffering of Jesus Christ. De La Tour is most known for depicting scenes from the bible and characters. • 109. Challenging Society Through Art. Challenging Society Through Art Art makes a statement, it is as simple as that. The most preferred type of art emotes happiness to the viewer throughout all of history. Yet, throughout the years, artists have come to challenge society's preference of art. Artists like Gustave Courbet, Francisco Goya, and Ai Weiwei, who decided to take the challenge and start a new progression. Social critique through art is blatantly shown throughout each of their pieces: Stonebreakers, The Third of May 1808, and Sunflower Seeds. All three are similar yet different. Through comparison, a similar theme still remains present: Each artist 's social critique through their artwork. These particular types of artwork will show how one moment in history changed the view of millions throughout centuries of time. With the use of symbolism, positioning of figures, historical context, color usage, and many other elements, these three works of art make an inspiring statement to the world. The first painting, Stone Breakers by Gustave Courbet depicts two males that go to work breaking stone and wearing torn and tattered clothing. This job was usually done by the lower classes of society. At this time in France there was a rising of revolutionary thinking. The reason for the sudden outbreak involved many factors, the ones portrayed in this painting are the demands of the working classes. The figures are not arranged in the typical way. With these three engravings (Knight, Death, and Devil, St. Jerome in His Study, and Melencolia I) he reached the high point of his artistic expression and concentration. each print represents a different philosophical perspective on the "worlds" respectively of action, spirit, and intellect. Although Durer himself evidently did not think of the three as a set, He sometimes sold or gave St. Jerome and Melencolia I as a pair. The 1514 engraving of 'St. Jerome in his Study' is chronologically approximately in the middle of the group, but it shows the deepest penetration of the subject. The Saint has ceased to be a legendary figure and has become the symbol of learned existence and felicity. St. Jerome is working at the far end of the room, which in itself gives the impression of remoteness and peace. His little desk is placed on a large table which otherwise holds nothing but an inkpot and a crucifix. Engrossed in his writing, he if blissfully alone with his thoughts, with his animals, and with his God. The cell, which in previous versions was always more or less cave–like, cold and drear, has now become a warm, comfortable, Late Gothic study; the lion is now really a household pet, blinking peacefully, with a dog asleep at his side. The landscape element is restricted to the morning sun shining in at the window and intimated by the great gourd, transformed into a household plant. The potential to bringing into the physical world anything that can be conceived in the mind (and created on a computer) brings a myriad of variety ; expanding markets and capabilities, whether new or improving products and processes that are already in practice. 3D printers are falling in price as the technology improves and the want for them increases making the ability to create anything domestically more practical , this would allow for an influx of material that would be hard to control or monitor, this can include guns, weapons and equipment for drugs manufacture along with the mundane domestic items like faucets, plugs or pots. Such a possibility would involve the morals of the manufacturer and the ethics of the wider collective that have an input on the advancements, though there are other limitations that play a part in the progression of 3D printing that are independent of ethics. As the technology and concept has the potential to create anything, it doesn't not yet have the capability to do so therefore the anticipation of the possibilities is the only preparation the 3D printing industry can do, as a result I shall conduct an investigation looking at the extent of ethical and moral influences as well as physical and scientific limitations and how they could limit any potential advancements, in accordance with the resulting benefits from some upcoming advancements in ... One of the pieces is a beautiful print, A Midsummer Night's Dream (Shakespeare, Act 4, Scene 1), is a print which was engraved after Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (1802 – 1873), from London. The British engraver, Samuel Cousins (1801 – 1887), created the print in November 1857, using a mixed method engraving process with mezzotint, on chine coolé. Upon viewing the print, it is engaging as the characters are expressive and detailed despite the absence of bright colors. The reproduction represents Bottom, the weaver with a head of an ass being favored by the fairy queen Titania. They are surrounded by fairies, and enchanted animals while the sprite, Puck watches from behind. The technique of mezzotint originated in the seventeenth century by a German inventor, Ludwig von Siegen. Mezzotint was a laborious method which used an engraved metal plate. The highly skilled artist, engraved or pricked by hand, the plate making numerous small holes that would hold ink. When the plate was filled with ink, it would create large areas of tone to reproduce a painting. During the seventeenth through the nineteenth centuries, according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, "mezzotints were the only means most people had of becoming acquainted with the paintings of major artists". After the invention of photography in the nineteenth century, the use of mezzotint was rare. The construction of the picture space, impeccably correct from a mathematical point of view, is characterized, first, by the extreme shortness of the perspective distance which, if the room were drawn to natural scale, would amount to only about four feet; second, by the lowness of the horizon which is determined by the eye level of the seated Saint; third, by the eccentric position of the vanishing point which is little more than half a centimeter from the right margin. The shortness of the distance, combined with the lowness of the horizon strengthens the feeling of intimacy. However, the vanishing point prevents the small room from looking cramped and box–like because the north wall is not visible; it gives greater distinction to the play of light on the embrasures of the windows; and it suggests the experience of casually entering a private room rather than of facing an artificially arranged stage. Finally, Durer himself christened his engraving; with the inscription ‘Melencolia'. (Fig. 3) Durer also interpreted two of the attributes of the seated female figure; he noted down on one occasion: ‘the key means power; the purse means wealth.' Durer has also told us quite clearly what he understood by melancholy. And we also know something about his spiritual condition at the time when he made this engraving – in May 1514, ... How does Randall Jarrell use the imagery in Durer's engraving of the knight, the devil and death to symbolically convey a philosophy of life using powerful poetic devices? 'The knight, Death and the Devil' poem written by Randall Jarrell, based on the engraving by German artist 'Albert Durer' depicting a valiant knight, on horseback treading along the path of life. A path beset on all sides by many obstacles, and the dark forces ranged against the knight in his journey. Created in 1513, Durer's engraving's key characters include a Knight in armour, riding along a narrow road with the grinning devil at one end and on the other, a figure of death in the form of deceased knight. 'Death of his own flesh, set up outside him The flesh of his own soul, set up outside him' Jarrell uses repetition as a device in the final stanza to emphasize the importance and allegory of these figures towards the Knight. 'His being accuses him –yet his face is firm' The alliteration of face and firm exaggerates the strength of the Knight, to reinforce the meaning of his power in the reader's mind. 'In resolution, in absolute persistence The folds of smiling do for steadiness The face is its own fate–a man does what he must– And the body underneath it says I am.' Randall Jarrell includes another allegory to explain how the Knight kept a steady state of mind to strengthen the body to not display his real feelings in his soul. His look completed him, and determining his own fate by forcing a straight face. Imagery has been used historically to convey morality. Growing up with a father that owned a small business, I have learned that it's hard to make it in a society like today. A couple years ago I became one of his employees, and I've noticed that there have been changes made to the business. I was always curious what it was like before I started working there. Owning a small town business in a world full of online shopping can be difficult, but O'Henry's is continuing to make money because of offering the broader variety of clothing, investing in advanced technology for graphic design, and utilizing social media. One difference between O'Henry's now than in the past would be the the type of merchandise they have to offer. They were new to everything, and it became a little overwhelming at times. Phil and Jackie are brother and sister, and had a screen–printing business at their house in the basement for a couple years. • 157. David Milne : An Artist, Who Captured The Essence Of... David Milne was a painter, printmaker, and writer, who captured the essence of Canadian art. Milne showed a pure aesthetic approach to his work that was dependant of his specific formula. Essentially Milne sought to reduce a painting to the basic form. David Milne was born on January 8, 1882, in a southern Ontario village named Burgoyne. David was the last of ten children to his Scottish immigrant parents. David Milne was born to be an artist, he began drawing even before starting kindergarten, and ironically enough the only subject he had ever failed in elementary school was drawing. Although Milne spent most of his artists' career in the United States and received much adulation in New York, in Canada he was well known as a Canadian nationalist and monarchist. In his practices David used predominately oil paint, water color and drypoint printmaking. Milne's work was similar in context and location compared to the Group of Seven, he primarily choose landscape as an image of interest. Unlike the Group of Seven, David approached his paintings with a more modern feel and developed his own particular style that was beautiful and simple. His landscapes and still images portrayed a sense of touch and feel. While the subject of Milne's choice was from the visible world, streets, people and landscapes he portrayed a modernist style that he had learned in New York.
