FAIRMONT - BAB AL BAHR HOTEL,
Abu Dhabi
Nestled between two bridges in Abu Dhabi, this five star resort
aims to offer patrons a memorable experience in highly pleasing
surroundings coupled with a wide selection of amenities.
We were commissioned to complete the structural works for
six facilities, including the entrance canopy, plantation rooms,
banqueting hall, pre functions roof, poolside bar area and
panoramic lift for guests. The total tonnage of steel work involved
approximated 700 tonnes.
We worked very closely with the civil contractor and designed
special build up sections to withstand heavy loading while meeting
the aesthetic challenges of this impressive hotel. For example,
the design requirement included a higher sizing hanging glazed
curtain wall and cantilever. To counteract the resultant deflection,
the build up section was tapered.
We used our STAAD and StruCad systems to design truss
systems that optimised loading with sufficiently specified
steel. With the application of smart technological solutions and
continuous collaboration with the contractors involved in this
project, we completed our requirements within six months and
ahead of schedule by 45 days.

BAWADI MALL, Al Ain
Bawadi Mall is the largest Mall in Al Ain that includes a family leisure area, two floors
of high end shopping and a market that emulates the Souks of old. This modern
facility houses 400 retail outlets in a configuration of three spacious courtyards. It
boasts a 10,000m2
of family entertainment that includes a ski slope, games facility
with rollercoaster, eight movie theatres and a 15 lane bowling alley.
We were appointed to deliver 1500 tonnes of steel structures spanning a total
of 20,000m2
.
We delivered the structural design of the family entertainment area, which includes
an ice skating rink, a games arcade and mini rollercoaster, a go cart and also a ski
slope facility.
At the outset to ensure the wide span safety requirements are met, we utilised
bracing in two directions to counteract lateral deflection.
We designed, fabricated and erected the steel structure that formed the basis
of the actual inclining ski slope. This entailed the consideration of dynamic load
requirements. We delivered materials that were able to withstand and adapt to
changing conditions.
In respect of the ice skating rink and the roller skating rink, we added neoprene
pads to counter excess vibrations and maximise the longevity of the intended
attributes of the steel structure design.
We collaborated closely with the contractor at all times to ensure delivery of the
project in only 18 months.

AL ITIHAD NATIONAL PRIVATE SCHOOL, Abu Dhabi
The Al Itihad National Private School in Abu Dhabi spans 6,000m2
and is senior
school for boys and girls up to the 12th
grade. The facility caters for 1,500 students
and offers all the requisite amenities such as cafeteria, gymnasium and computer
room.
We were hired to deliver 750 tonnes structural works for the mezzanine floor and
air conditioning decking that ultimately covered a built up area of 12,000m2
The roofing structure was erected on reinforced concrete columns (RCC).
With a focus on the delivery of a high quality structure that would retain its quality
over the long term, we consulted intensively with the RCC supplier. To ensure
the long term integrity of the product, we utilised trusses to strengthen the RCC
columns along with a combination of hot rolled and build up sections for the rafters.
One of the design challenges was that a lot of obstruction-free space was required
to ensure mobility of students. To meet the requirements of strength and safety, we
also added jack beams to the structure.
To shorten the time frame, we delivered a support structure for Aluminium
Composite Panel (‘ACP’) Cladding on the front elevation.
We delivered the project within 15 months.

  • 33. FAIRMONT - BAB AL BAHR HOTEL, Abu Dhabi Nestled between two bridges in Abu Dhabi, this five star resort aims to offer patrons a memorable experience in highly pleasing surroundings coupled with a wide selection of amenities. The total tonnage of steel work involved approximated 700 tonnes. We worked very closely with the civil contractor and designed special build up sections to withstand heavy loading while meeting the aesthetic challenges of this impressive hotel. For example, the design requirement included a higher sizing hanging glazed curtain wall and cantilever. To counteract the resultant deflection, the build up section was tapered. We used our STAAD and StruCad systems to design truss systems that optimised loading with sufficiently specified steel. With the application of smart technological solutions and continuous collaboration with the contractors involved in this project, we completed our requirements within six months and ahead of schedule by 45 days. • 34. BAWADI MALL, Al Ain Bawadi Mall is the largest Mall in Al Ain that includes a family leisure area, two floors of high end shopping and a market that emulates the Souks of old. This modern facility houses 400 retail outlets in a configuration of three spacious courtyards. It boasts a 10,000m2 of family entertainment that includes a ski slope, games facility with rollercoaster, eight movie theatres and a 15 lane bowling alley. We were appointed to deliver 1500 tonnes of steel structures spanning a total of 20,000m2 . We delivered the structural design of the family entertainment area, which includes an ice skating rink, a games arcade and mini rollercoaster, a go cart and also a ski slope facility. At the outset to ensure the wide span safety requirements are met, we utilised bracing in two directions to counteract lateral deflection. We designed, fabricated and erected the steel structure that formed the basis of the actual inclining ski slope. This entailed the consideration of dynamic load requirements. We delivered materials that were able to withstand and adapt to changing conditions. In respect of the ice skating rink and the roller skating rink, we added neoprene pads to counter excess vibrations and maximise the longevity of the intended attributes of the steel structure design. We collaborated closely with the contractor at all times to ensure delivery of the project in only 18 months. With a focus on the delivery of a high quality structure that would retain its quality over the long term, we consulted intensively with the RCC supplier. To ensure the long term integrity of the product, we utilised trusses to strengthen the RCC columns along with a combination of hot rolled and build up sections for the rafters. One of the design challenges was that a lot of obstruction-free space was required to ensure mobility of students. To meet the requirements of strength and safety, we also added jack beams to the structure. To shorten the time frame, we delivered a support structure for Aluminium Composite Panel (‘ACP’) Cladding on the front elevation. We delivered the project within 15 months.
