About Mule execution units
Mule ESB supports three main architectural approaches: Flows, Services, and Configuration Patterns. Flows are the newest and most flexible approach, allowing building blocks to be arranged into a custom message processing flow. Configuration Patterns provide pre-configured patterns optimized for common use cases like exposing APIs or proxying services. Services were previously the primary approach but provide a fixed framework, requiring configuration of inbound and outbound routers and endpoints.
Working with components
This document discusses the key building blocks of Mule flows:
- Messages entering flows can be validated, enriched, transformed, processed by custom logic, logged, and used to determine a response.
- The main building blocks are optional message sources, message processors, message processing blocks, and endpoints.
- Message sources receive incoming messages to trigger flow instances. Message processors perform actions like validation and transformation. Processing blocks combine multiple processors. Endpoints implement transport channels to insert and extract data.
About mule transformers
Mule transformers strictly enforce the types of incoming and outgoing data by default, but this can be configured to be more relaxed. Transformers can change the payload type, format, or message properties. Mule provides many built-in transformers across its core and modules to handle common transformation needs like payload type changes or property modifications. Individual transformer configurations can ignore invalid inputs or enforce a specific return type.
About jms
JMS is an option for application integration in a Java environment that is asynchronous, secure, reliable, and fast. It allows sending and receiving of JMS messages on queues and topics using the JMS 1.0.2b or 1.1 specifications. Mule does not implement a JMS server, so a JMS broker like ActiveMQ must be used. Configuring JMS with the broker can sometimes be tricky, but Mule provides options for JMS connectors and endpoints. The JMS transport will create different types of JMS messages depending on the data type, such as a BytesMessage for a byte array. Sending messages to a queue is similar to topics by changing the endpoint configuration attribute. Durable subscribers
Webservices
Mule can facilitate the use of web services in several ways: it can host or consume web services, decouple transport from protocol to send and receive over different mediums, support JAX-WS or simple web services, and proxy or modify web services with little code. Mule can also act as a web service gateway or proxy to route requests to backend services, transform messages between versions, bridge protocols, validate requests, enforce security and policies. It provides utilities like protocol bridging and WSProxyService to forward requests and proxy remote web services while serving local WSDLs.
Generating the mule flow as html document
Anypoint Studio allows developers to generate HTML documentation for their Mule applications with a single click. It can document each flow, element, and attribute in the application. The documentation generator plugin exports project documentation to a specified folder, creating index.html and other files that provide details about the application in an easy-to-understand format.
Sftp connector

The FTP Connector allows Mule applications to exchange files with an external FTP server by implementing a file transport channel. The FTP endpoint can be configured as an inbound endpoint to receive files or an outbound endpoint to write files to the FTP server. Configuring the FTP endpoint involves placing it in the Mule flow, and then configuring properties like the host, port, path, user and password on various tabs in the properties editor. An example flow retrieves files from an FTP server using an inbound FTP endpoint and writes them to a local directory using a file outbound endpoint.
Hdfs connector
The HDFS connector allows bi-directional integration between Mule applications and an Apache Hadoop instance. To use the connector, a global HDFS configuration must be defined containing parameters like the nameNodeUri and username. The connector supports operations like writing to, reading from, and deleting files from HDFS. An example flow demonstrates creating a file in HDFS by writing the HTTP request payload to the specified path.
Basic example using vm component

Ajax connector
- 2. Ajax Connector Ajax is an acronym for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, a cluster of related technologies that facilitate the creation of asynchronous Web applications. The Ajax Connector, which can be configured as an inbound or outbound endpoint, creates a transport channel to send messages asynchronously to and from an Ajax server, which communicates with external Web resources.
- 3. Configuration Configuration of an Ajax endpoint typically requires two steps: Decide where you want to place the Ajax endpoint within your Mule flow, then drag it from the Palette to the appropriate place in the sequence of building blocks that make up your Mule flow. If you place the Ajax endpoint at the beginning of the flow, it acts as an inbound endpoint (such as in your message source). If you place the Ajax building block in the middle or at the end of the flow, it serves as an outbound endpoint. Configure the Ajax endpoint (and the Connector Configuration it depends on to define its transport channel) by providing values for the fields on the various tabs on the Ajax endpoint properties editor, which you open by double- clicking the Ajax icon on the Message Flow canvas.
