The document discusses a 2007 Horizon Report on emerging technologies and their potential applications. It notes that the report highlights technologies likely to be adopted within one, two to three, and four to five years but that little data was found on how the report was actually used. It recommends that the publishers of the Horizon Report advertise it more to make more educators aware of this useful tool, such as through targeted mailers or allowing downloads to be tracked with user satisfaction surveys to gather feedback.
The digital transformation of scholarly communication through electronic resources has significantly impacted academic libraries and their users. It has led to unsustainable inflation in the costs of journals and other periodicals. In response, libraries have had to shift spending away from print to growing expenditures on electronic resources. They have also developed new strategies and services to help users effectively navigate and utilize the growing array of digital information.

Institutional Success Via a Data-Centric Technology EcosystemIT Consultant
This document discusses Lehman College's development of a data-centric ecosystem to improve recruitment, retention, and other initiatives. It has integrated various tools and systems to expose important information, align messaging and branding, and deliver personalized content. This ecosystem allows events to be syndicated across different platforms, newsletters to automate publishing to websites, and media assets to be shared. Analytics are used to track engagement. The college is also using predictive modeling with data on enrollment, attrition rates, and other factors to develop strategies to improve student outcomes.
Exploratory Eye Tracking Research with Curriculum MappingIan Carnaghan
This document summarizes an exploratory eye tracking study of a web-based curriculum mapping system used by the Oakland Public School system. The study tested how easily users could complete tasks like locating lesson plans and curriculum information. It found that search results were cluttered, the distinction between browsing and searching was unclear, and unit pages required too much scrolling. Recommendations included simplifying the search, explaining education terms, and improving the formatting of results and unit pages. Redesigned wireframes were proposed to address these issues. However, the document notes that further research is needed due to the small user sample size and that some flaws could be due to how Atlas was implemented in Oakland specifically.

1. The document proposes the WatchDawgs app to address rising criminal activity, especially sexual assault, and delayed crime reporting at the University of Washington.
2. The app would allow students to report criminal activity in real time and monitor recent crime activity on a map. It would also provide safety resources and a way to contact campus police.
3. The goals are to have one in four new students download the app, improve crime reporting, and ultimately reduce criminal activity on campus by 15% through increased awareness, reporting, and collaboration between students and police.

This document discusses the benefits and concerns of faculty controlling their own online directory profiles. It notes that giving faculty control allows for instant updates but may lead to inconsistencies if not properly managed. Potential issues include typos, lack of consistency across profiles, and unenthusiastic users. Suggested solutions are periodic review of data for typos, providing clear branding guidelines for consistency, and being flexible, conversational and providing training to address unenthusiastic users. The document concludes by outlining future plans such as incorporating all directory data into a single system and exporting additional information like course schedules and contact details.

Academic research and recommendations finalKris Hardy
This document summarizes recommendations from a research compilation on optimizing academic program pages on a college website. It conducted surveys of prospective students to determine key priorities for academic content. Based on the research, it recommends transitioning program pages to a decentralized model within department sites. It also recommends introducing new solutions for displaying course information and alumni outcomes, as well as standardizing key content categories across department sites. The next steps outlined are to finalize these recommendations with university leaders and develop the technical solutions.
Using Analytics to Intervene with Underperforming College Studentsekunnen
Abstract: Data mining is typically associated with business and marketing. For example, Amazon uses people's past purchases to suggest books they might be interested in buying. Similarly, academic analytics can be used to identify and predict students who might be at risk, by analyzing demographic and performance data of former students. However, there is no clear consensus on how to intervene with current students in a way they will accept and not associate with academic "profiling." Why should students think they are exceptions to our rules? This panel presentation will share how three institutions are approaching this problem and provide an overview of related issues.
This document discusses LinkedIn and its importance to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). It outlines three ways VCU can connect on LinkedIn: through a Company Page for news and jobs, a University Page as a database and landing page for students/alumni, and a VCU Alumni Group for career networking. It provides details on the opportunities and audiences for each page and discusses next steps to refine, rebrand, market, and utilize the pages as part of VCU's social media efforts. The goal is to support student success, engagement, and career outcomes data collection through LinkedIn.

Online Reporting at Notre Dame High School SheffieldNaace Naace
Notre Dame High School in Sheffield conducted a survey that found 90% of parents had broadband internet access and 98% had internet access overall, higher than expected for a comprehensive city school. The school offers an online "virtual school" portal for staff, students, and parents that includes access to email, learning platforms, student documents and profiles, assessment data, and other school information and resources. The school's strategy has been to make increased use of their management information system (MIS) to digitally collect and share meaningful student data with parents online or in paper form for those without internet access. Parents appreciate being able to access timely information online in a more manageable way, while staff welcome more informed parental engagement and discussion about students.

Leveraging Salesforce to Drive Career Center SuccessSalesforce.org
Presentation from Salesforce.org Higher Ed Summit 2017 by: Katie Connor of the University of Colorado Boulder
Since 2012, the job placement rate for Leeds graduates has increased from an average of 59% to over 90%. Student email click rates are up over 20%, career advising appointments have doubled, and the overall response rate to placement surveys has exceeded 99% in the past 2 years. These numbers were achieved, in part, due to leveraging technology to effectively capture data, analyze it and act on it. The use of Salesforce and Qualtrics, as the technological backbone for Leeds Career Development, combined with strong school-wide partnerships, have enabled us to increase operating efficiency and improve stakeholder engagement to drive student success.

Introduction to Learning Analytics in BlackboardTimothy Harfield
Learning analytics is the measurement and analysis of student data to understand and optimize learning. Blackboard Analytics allows students to monitor their online course engagement over time compared to the class average. Using activity reports in Blackboard, students can view metrics on course access, time spent, interactions, submissions, and current grade to gain insight on their participation and performance.
This document summarizes a study on how blogging and micro-blogging impact the formation of organizational social capital within a large tech corporation. The study used literature reviews, surveys, interviews and content analysis of posts on the corporate blog and micro-blog. Key findings include that the tools facilitated different dimensions of social capital, with the blog strengthening shared knowledge and the micro-blog strengthening relationships and networks. The results provide insights for both improving internal social media strategies and understanding how such tools can benefit knowledge sharing and innovation.

Majors, degrees, and programs ... these are the products that colleges and universities offer, and the act of earning a degree is a life-changing experience for most people. Why, then, are so many major, program, and degree pages on .edu sites so long, lackluster, or lifeless?
This session focused on the content needed to create better user experiences for prospective students browsing major, degree, and program pages. We looked at the assessment, planning, collaboration, and governance needed to get it done.
The document introduces SchoolDude KPIs, which are key performance indicators that allow schools to measure their performance across various operational areas compared to peer institutions. It provides over 50 KPIs across areas like maintenance, technology, energy use, and transportation. Schools can use KPIs to set standards, measure progress over time, and identify areas for improvement by seeing how their metrics compare to national averages. The document explains how KPIs are calculated using actual operational data from SchoolDude's database of over 6,000 school clients, and how schools can gain insights from KPIs to justify needs and resources.

Penify - Let AI do the Documentation, you write the Code.KrishnaveniMohan1
Penify automates the software documentation process for Git repositories. Every time a code modification is merged into "main", Penify uses a Large Language Model to generate documentation for the updated code. This automation covers multiple documentation layers, including InCode Documentation, API Documentation, Architectural Documentation, and PR documentation, each designed to improve different aspects of the development process. By taking over the entire documentation process, Penify tackles the common problem of documentation becoming outdated as the code evolves.

Editor's Notes
Preliminary search of other’s efforts, falling response rates may be becoming the norm. For instance, Person Jerold (2011) compared response rates longitudinally at Stanford and found the following: 50% in 2002, 31.9% in 2008, and 26% in 2010 ("Become a Survey Sophisticate," Currents. v37. n5, p20-23. May - June 2011.) Elsewhere, the University of Colorado at Boulder surveys every 4 years, and their most recent in 2011 yielded 17% response rate of Graduates from 2006-2008, while the University of Connecticut had a 27% response rate in 2011.
