There are three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. A solid changes to a liquid at the melting point, and a liquid changes to a solid at the freezing point, which is equal to the melting point. A liquid changes to a gas at the boiling point, such as water boiling at 100 degrees Celsius. Evaporation is when a liquid turns to a gas at its surface, while boiling occurs throughout the liquid. Some substances like camphor sublimate, changing directly from solid to gas. Distillation involves heating a liquid to boil it, cooling the vapor to recondense it into a pure liquid. Fractional distillation separates mixed liquids based on their different boiling points.

This document discusses aging and living arrangements for the elderly. It notes that the worldwide population over age 60 is nearing 700 million and is expected to reach 2 billion by 2050. Living arrangements can include joint families, nuclear families, living alone, or institutionalization. Joint families traditionally provided support for elders in India but are decreasing. Nuclear families offer job opportunities but full-time elder care is difficult. Institutionalization in old age homes provides medical care and amenities, but oversight and care quality is sometimes lacking. Family, social, economic, and physical support systems are important for elderly well-being.
Older adults in India face several financial challenges in their retirement years. Many lack a steady income source after leaving the workforce and have assets like property but not enough liquid cash, making them "asset rich, cash poor". Healthcare costs are also rising without adequate insurance coverage. Daily living expenses are increasing with inflation. Some seniors feel lonely without a spouse or strong family support network. They are also vulnerable to financial scams. While some families take in elderly parents, many end up in old age homes due to lack of financial support, family disputes, or unavailability of caretakers.

This report explores the significance of border towns and spaces for strengthening responses to young people on the move. In particular it explores the linkages of young people to local service centres with the aim of further developing service, protection, and support strategies for migrant children in border areas across the region. The report is based on a small-scale fieldwork study in the border towns of Chipata and Katete in Zambia conducted in July 2023. Border towns and spaces provide a rich source of information about issues related to the informal or irregular movement of young people across borders, including smuggling and trafficking. They can help build a picture of the nature and scope of the type of movement young migrants undertake and also the forms of protection available to them. Border towns and spaces also provide a lens through which we can better understand the vulnerabilities of young people on the move and, critically, the strategies they use to navigate challenges and access support.
The findings in this report highlight some of the key factors shaping the experiences and vulnerabilities of young people on the move – particularly their proximity to border spaces and how this affects the risks that they face. The report describes strategies that young people on the move employ to remain below the radar of visibility to state and non-state actors due to fear of arrest, detention, and deportation while also trying to keep themselves safe and access support in border towns. These strategies of (in)visibility provide a way to protect themselves yet at the same time also heighten some of the risks young people face as their vulnerabilities are not always recognised by those who could offer support.
In this report we show that the realities and challenges of life and migration in this region and in Zambia need to be better understood for support to be strengthened and tuned to meet the specific needs of young people on the move. This includes understanding the role of state and non-state stakeholders, the impact of laws and policies and, critically, the experiences of the young people themselves. We provide recommendations for immediate action, recommendations for programming to support young people on the move in the two towns that would reduce risk for young people in this area, and recommendations for longer term policy advocacy.

Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.Christina Parmionova
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.

Ageing A Time To Suffer Loneliness

Ageing A Time To Suffer Loneliness
There are many NGOs in India that offer accommodation and care for the elderly. These
organizations depend on donations to operate their programs and services.
The term ‘Golden Years’ may not apply to many, as ageing can be a lonely and depressing
time. Lack of planning, unsuccessful goals, as well as health troubles may reduce one’s
chances at happiness during these years.
People work hard in order to better their lives, with the firm belief that they will reap the
rewards of their efforts during retirement. They anticipate a life sans schedules, time
constraints and family expenditures. However, a comfortable and opulent lifestyle is enjoyed by
few, during their old age.
A few seniors find themselves with such meagre earnings; it is difficult to manage even the
basics - a roof over their heads and food on the table.
Seniors may also experience other emotional upheavals - health troubles, isolation, loss of a
spouse or child and, thus, be forced to live in poverty. The realization that one is unable to
support themselves may distress them, sometimes even to the point physical illness.

Before we can gauge the reality of it all, the children have grown up and beginning their own
lives – making independent choices and living self-sufficiently. Oftentimes, they live far away,
maybe in a different city or state, and visits to their parents gradually decline. They are so busy
chasing career goals; they fail to comprehend the isolation associated with ageing.
Sometimes, all it takes is a little smile or a cheerful greeting to lighten up the day of an elderly
person. One must question oneself – how much time or effort does it take to go a little out of
your way to help an elderly in need? Support comes in various forms – whether it is emotional
care or financial aid.
One may do their bit by providing financial assistance for a good cause. There are many
NGOs in India that offer accommodation and care for the elderly. These organizations run
through donations. Here, one can sponsor grandparents too.
So, why not donate a little time and monetary help to the elderly and contribute to improving
their standard of life and well-being, because they deserve it!
