seen as health, maturity and personal growth, self–acceptance, happiness, generativity, coping, and

The size of the elderly rose in absolute terms during the last century from 12 million in 1901 to
approximately 71 million in 2001 and is likely to reach 113 million in 2016. Yet another feature of
ageing in India is the fact that the proportion of elderly is much higher in the rural areas than in the
urban areas. The sex–wise pattern of growth of elderly population reveals that the increase is greater
among women in the recent past, which indicates that elderly women will outnumber elderly men in
the future.
There is therefore an urgent need to examine the various aspects of this new and fast growing
population to ensure the design of appropriate policy and programmes directed to meet the varied
needs of this vulnerable and dependent group. India, like many traditional societies, today faces a
unique situation in providing care for its elderly as the existing old–age support structures in the
form of family, kith and kin, are fast eroding and the elderly are ill–equipped to cope alone with their
lives in the face of infirmity and disability. The onus of caring for the elderly is therefore now much
more on the state than the family and will necessitate the creation of adequate institutional support.
While the western countries have a fairly well organised network of institutions for the care of the

Sometimes visitors visits the old age home at their happiest occasions like Birthday, Wedding day,
remembering of the family members or at any festival times. They bought some blankets, food items,

As far as possible, elderly who are capable, should be encouraged, and if necessary, supported to be
engaged in some economically productive manner. Others who are incapable of supporting
themselves should be provided with partial or full social welfare grants that at least provide for their
basic needs. Families and communities may be encouraged to support the elderly living with them
through counseling and local self–governance.
Neglect
The elderly, especially those who are weak and/or dependent, require physical, mental and
emotional care and support. When this is not provided, they suffer from neglect, a problem that
occurs when a person is left uncared for and that is often linked with isolation. Changing lifestyles
and values, demanding jobs, distractions such as television, a shift to nuclear family structures and
redefined priorities have led to increased neglect of the elderly by families and communities. This is
worsened as the elderly are less likely to demand attention than those of other age groups.
The best way to address neglect of the elderly is to counsel families, sensitise community leaders
and address the issue at all levels in different forums, including the print and audio–visual media.
Schools and work places offer opportunities where younger generations can be addressed in groups.

Old–age homes have become popular in Bangladesh. The traditional structure of a family of
Bangladesh is turning into a fast, racy lifestyle, where ambitious youth are discarding the old values
and in turn, their parents.
The parents are forced to live out their old age alone. An old man, once the head of the family is
now a subdued member of a house of strangers. The woman who once happily cooked three meals a

Lastly I will put question when old homes can be beneficial for our country.
I intend to find answers to such questions through my research work. The primary data will be
collected by interviewing and passing questionnaires to the general citizens of Dhaka city. To further
clarify matters, I will take help from a wide range of interesting secondary sources. They mostly
include the related materials published in the books, internet, newspapers, magazines, journals,
reports, motion pictures and even in a song. By integrating my primary and secondary data, I hope to
give conclusive evidence to support my hypothesis.
In brief, the hypothesis I am aiming to prove in this research is that, our parents do not deserve to
live in an old home at their old age and the children of our country should keep their parents with
them till their last breath.

Now that I don't have to deal with animals my life is completely different and a lot easier, but some
way is boring. Going to the market where is a quick 20–minute trip and I just pick everything I need
for at least a week, which is very convenient. Of course, they are different countries, which implies a
different lifestyle.
Likewise, In Romania I was used to living in a big house, where everybody has plenty of space,
like large bedrooms, bathrooms, living room, and a big playroom. Then behind the house it was
the yard with the swimming pool and a huge garden followed by rows of fruit trees. At the end of
the garden runs the big river, which is similar in size to the Colorado River. In the front yard there
was a water fountain and a long driveway with nice pine trees all the way up to the road. Here in
Los Angeles there is a huge difference between the housing situations; the living style is quit
different. Lifestyle in Los Angeles is living in a small apartment for almost too much money, but
you are close to anything you can imagine. Another thing is that there is no front or back yard,
and if there is it's very small with out a garden nor trees. The good part about it is that there is no

While elderly abuse is difficult to trace throughout the year, it is clear that as these long term care
facilities became more popular, people also became more aware of neglect and abuse on aging
adults. Through different acts and mandated legislation, it is shown that the US government has
been continually increasing regulations and restrictions on care facilities to help with the
problem of elderly abuse. Title XX of the Social Security Act in 1974 was one of the first acts that
pushed for states to provide Adult Protective Services (NAPSA). This act gave permission for
states to use funds from Social Services Block Grant funds for the protections of adults as well as
children. As this act began to be implemented in states, there was also a concern about the
paternalistic nature of these services and how involved the government and state was going to be.
However, by 1981 all states had an office with the responsibility of providing protective services to
some segment of the population and states reported that they had spent a total of $83,260,303 in
Social Security Block Grant funds for Adult Protective Services (NAPSA). Even with all of this
