Children from single-parent families or those with incarcerated family members are much more likely to end up in jail without positive intervention programs like Big Brothers Big Sisters. The program matches at-risk youth with mentors who spend just one hour per week with them, and this reduces the chances of criminal behavior, drug use, alcohol use, and school absenteeism. Churches are encouraged to help their communities by committing to match ten children each with mentors through Big Brothers Big Sisters.
