UTM has implemented the Sustainable Energy Management Program (SEMP) to reduce its energy consumption and carbon footprint. As part of SEMP, UTM conducted energy audits, installed energy meters and energy-efficient lighting, established an energy management committee and policies, and conducted training and awareness campaigns involving the campus community. While initial initiatives lacked organization, SEMP has led to more structured energy management practices across campus. Challenges remain in sustaining efforts and reaching all stakeholders, but a low-cost approach and top management support have already achieved energy and cost savings without compromising operations.
