Data Centers - Striving Within A Narrow Range - Research Report - MCG - May 2...pchutichetpong
M Capital Group (“MCG”) expects to see demand and the changing evolution of supply, facilitated through institutional investment rotation out of offices and into work from home (“WFH”), while the ever-expanding need for data storage as global internet usage expands, with experts predicting 5.3 billion users by 2023. These market factors will be underpinned by technological changes, such as progressing cloud services and edge sites, allowing the industry to see strong expected annual growth of 13% over the next 4 years.
Whilst competitive headwinds remain, represented through the recent second bankruptcy filing of Sungard, which blames “COVID-19 and other macroeconomic trends including delayed customer spending decisions, insourcing and reductions in IT spending, energy inflation and reduction in demand for certain services”, the industry has seen key adjustments, where MCG believes that engineering cost management and technological innovation will be paramount to success.
MCG reports that the more favorable market conditions expected over the next few years, helped by the winding down of pandemic restrictions and a hybrid working environment will be driving market momentum forward. The continuous injection of capital by alternative investment firms, as well as the growing infrastructural investment from cloud service providers and social media companies, whose revenues are expected to grow over 3.6x larger by value in 2026, will likely help propel center provision and innovation. These factors paint a promising picture for the industry players that offset rising input costs and adapt to new technologies.
According to M Capital Group: “Specifically, the long-term cost-saving opportunities available from the rise of remote managing will likely aid value growth for the industry. Through margin optimization and further availability of capital for reinvestment, strong players will maintain their competitive foothold, while weaker players exit the market to balance supply and demand.”

12. Existing Product
This is an officialposter released for the Matrix . The
matrix is similar to my idea as its based around a
simulatedreality. Thisposter uses the computer code
like text which reiteratesthe fact the film is about
technology and coding. The use of words 'free your
mind' also gives ideasof an alternate reality, that’s
confined to the mind. This is also a very enticing choice
of words as the viewer wants to see how their mind
can be freed. The poster is entirely digitalart, which is
fitting as the theme is a digitalworld.
13. Existing Product
This is the official art for 'the thirteenth floor' which
is another simulatedreality film. This poster also
incorporatesa technological,computergenerated
theme, with a familiarmountainscene presented in
a computer language. Thisgives ideas of an
interactivecomputerworld you can enter. It shows a
man transitioningfrom the normal world, to the
computer generated one. This is very enticing as the
viewer wants to see where he goes, it implies a
definite adventureinto a simulatedworld. The
poster also uses a distinctivephrase 'question
reality'. This is very direct and presents what the film
is about effectively and makes the viewer curious as
to see what reality really is. The lighting is used so
that the brightest areas are the entrance to the
computer-generatedworld, giving ideasthat the
place is beautifuland magical.
14. Existing Product
This poster doesn’t incorporateanything to
do with computergenerated simulation,as
the film isn't about that. However, this film
presents a heaven like place just how I
would like too. We see a vast, magical
looking place with towering pillarsand
grand statues. This is a very atmospheric
and captivatingposter as you can really
see the depth of the world and makes you
want to explore. We see in the foreground
a man and his dog, lookingto be going on
an adventure. This refers to my idea as the
characterwill adventurethrough the
simulatedworld so maybe a poster of this
sort would be effective. The overallred
and orange glowing colour scheme makes
the place seem mythical and wealthy.
15. Existing Product
The game afterlife is a game similar to what I
want to make. Thisgame is based on
creating a functional heaven,this isn't what I
want to do entirely yet I would like to use
the ideas of creating a world with no
boundaries.The game uses a bird's eye view
which is something I would like to use. My
game would consist of a world generation
like this, yet without the heavenaspect. I
aim to havethe main activity as world
building,as if you're in the simulationliving
as one of the elites, where anythingis
possible. This game also uses pixel art
effectively with very detailedobjects and
bright colours.
16. Research Summary
From my research I have gathered that films using simulated reality as a
main theme often base the art on computer code and use computer
generated art for this. I have also learnet that if it's an adventure film, it
is effective to use a person in the foreground, in the middle, walking
into a dramatic location. This gives the idea that a big adventure will
unfold as he is about to enter this vast land, suggesting the film will
show us what's there. I believe I will incorporate this technique into my
poster as I want to show an adventure is taking place. I will also use
computer code like art to present the world the adventure will take
place in.

19. Synopsis
My film and game will be alternate reality, wherebya hacker stumbles upon a simulated world for the elite and trys to enterit. The
storyline begins with a middle aged, dead end job, bored man goingto and from work every dayand returningto his dingyapartment
to partake in his onlypassion – computer hacking/coding.One eveningwhen hackinggovernment websites, he stumbles upon the
management program for the simulated world. He then spends some days hackinginto the programand seeing the wonders this
world has to offer. After exploringthe world from the restraintsofhis computer, he decides hehas to find a way into the simulated
world. He hacks and codes and explores for days, until he finds the perfect combination ofhardware and software thatcan gethim
into the world. He uses a contraption he made to go on his head and the softwarehe's developed to get in.One eveninghe says
goodbye to his discord call and presses the button to enter the simulated world. Aftervarious glitches and electrical explosions,he
wakes up in the new world.
The rest of the film/game consists ofhis explorationofthe world and him working out how to stayhere perminently(get a house,
stayunder the radar etc.) he begins with an overall exploration-he sees giant mansions, luxurycars, delicious and rare cuisine, gold
and jewlery at amounts unheard ofon earth. Basically, it’s a playgroundfor the elite where they live out their realitylikegods with no
negative life aspects whatsoever. Once he has explored the world, he begins to wonder how he can stayhere forever and get himself
a mansion ofhis own. He befriends a rich man, and slowlymore and more residents meet him and become aware of his situation.
These people help him to stay, giving him their old houses and cars etc. He also has the challenges of secuirtyand people trying to
expose him. The film concludes with him securing a mansion, and all the riches he haswished for.He uses the connections he's made
to stayunder the radar of securityand opposition.
The games actual gameplaywill be only set in the simuated world and have the build up to this location as a cut scene beforehand.
The gameplaywill consist of city building, collecting, and exploring. For example– player will be moving his charicter around the
world lookingfor other people/ items of interest that could give him an item for his inventory (mostlybuildings).Once he has gatherd
an inventory item saya house gifted from an allie he meets, he can then place that house into the world. The overall aim isto meet
more allies and find items that you can then use to build up your empire in the world. A completeion point would be whenyou have
claimed all possible houses/buildings and have met all allies avalable.
20. Style Sheet
The images on the left
represent how I want the
simulatedworld that most
of the game takes place in
to be. It should be a
heaven like place, with
great riches. Though it isnt
actuallyheaven, it should
effectively replicate
society's ideasof heaven
without the religious
aspect. Just an amazing
The images on

design ideasI
want to use as a
secondary theme.
Though most of
the game is set in
a heaven like
world, this world
is simulated.
Therefore, I want
some use of data
stream/binary
graphics to keep
reiteratingthis.
Maybe used in cut
scenes and
loadingscreens.
21. Magazine and advert layouts
These adverts incorporatethings I would like to
use, such as binary data streams. This shows the
technological nature of the game, also so does the
breaking through of pixels in the wreck it wralph
example. The wreck it wraplh example uses
another idea I would like to usefor my advertising,
which is the breakthrough froma normalworld to
a simulated one. The switch fromnon pixel to
pixel world is something I will use. Magazines
tend to use corresponding fonts, likeempire does
there, and I intend to follow this theme to create a
similar overallbrand.

22. Video Game layouts
These two games, afterlife and terraria use
the format I would like to use. I prefer the
birds eye view of afterlife however both
would work. I think this format is great for my
game as I want it to be a very over the top city
builder inspired game, whereby the player
places crazy buildings and systems into place,
effectively doing anything the mind can
imagine. The pixel art is very effective in these
with them having the iconic 8 / 16bit look.

27. Contingency
What can go wrong? What can you do if it does?
Actor unavailability Have a backup, reschedule
Water damage to electronics With some shots being in the rain my camera and
other equipment could get damaged. To ensure it
doesn’t I will only use cameras under cover and secure
the exposed ports etc.
Over exposure to office lighting Check actors are comfortable, dim obviouslybright
lights
Temperature Some shots are in a small bedroom, could get too hot,
check if actors are feeling ok and provide ventilation.
Editingissues – corruption, computercrashing, loss of
files,
Backup files, use powerful computers, make sure to
save
Lack of storage capacity Bring plenty of sd cards
Public interference One locationis a wealthy area with mansionsetc. ,
this could mean residents may not be happy with the
filming and come to interfere.
28. Risk Assessment
What could be a risk to you, others or the
equipment?
How can you make sure that doesn’t happen? What
will you do if it does?
Tripping hazards Ensurecables areeffectively positioned, ensurefloors are dry or wet
floor signs are in place, brief the team of wherehazards arebefore
filming, if someone does trip havebasic firstaid kit on set for plasters
etc. If an issueis moreserious call for an ambulance or take to
hospital...
Roads Some of my shots are of someone waking down the road, therefore with me
wanting to get all the best angles I will probably have to film in the road at points.
This means cars, pedestrians or cyclists could crash into us, or swerve and cause
other accidents. To ensure this doesn’t happen I will only film in roads when it's
very quiet and I'll have someone always looking out where I cant see.
Electrocution I want some of my shots to take place in the rain, this is a great hazard as of the
electrical equipment I will have to have in the rain. To ensure no electrical hazards
occur I will only position the camera under cover for rain shots and ill make sure
microphones and mic cables etc. Are also properly covered and under covered
areas when possible.
Physicalinjuries in editing Editing could be a long process thereforeover exposureto screens
and lighting in studio could affectthe editor or actor's currenthealth.
They could suffer headaches, so dimming screens and lights is helpful.
Also they could suffer fromRSI (repetitivestrain injury) fromover
typing or filming. To stop this we should take breaks and alternate
