2. Christianity in Shakespear s Hamlet
Faith plays a large role in how one lives their life. Christianity plays a strong role throughout Hamlet
by William Shakespeare. When reading the play one must think of the controversies of the time
when Shakespeare writes the play. Reformation and Renaissance opinions are reflected throughout.
Shakespeare deals with very controversial attitudes and religious questions dealing with death, the
existence of purgatory, morality, murder, suicide and marriage
in his play Hamlet. It is obvious
throughout the play that Hamlet s life is guided by his faith and his religious beliefs. At first,
Hamlet sees the ghost of his dead father and vows to avenge his death. Christianityforbids followers

To be, or not to be? That is the question whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and
arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And, by opposing, end
them? To die, to sleep No more and by a sleep to say we end the heartache and the thousand
natural shocks that flesh is heir to tis a consummation Devoutly to be wished! (Shakespeare 53).
At this point Hamlet is questioning whether he should live or die and whether it would be better
to live his life in agony or end it and in turn end the pain. He is troubled that if he were to take his
own life he would end up not in purgatory but in hell because taking one s life was considered to
be an unforgiveable sin. It is unfortunate that Hamlet is in a place in his life where he thinks killing
himself would perhaps be more of an option than living under the circumstances, which surround
him. Hamlet decides that he does not want to risk eternal peace in heaven for peace he may find
while on earth in a difficult situation. Hamlet also uses his Christian ideals when struggling with
the idea of killing his step father. He has several opportunities to do so the primary one is when he
walks in on Claudius praying. Hamlet can t commit murder when the person is praying because
then that would send the person straight to heaven. Hamlet does not want Claudius to end up living
in heaven but rather he wants to make sure that Claudius is sent to Hell. Hamlet

3. Analysis Of The Book Maus
Adolf Hitler stated, The Jews are undoubtedly a race, but they are not human. (2) Adolf Hitler
was the man who started the Nazi Regime which became the biggest massacre in the world. The
massacre was known as the Holocaust in which millions of Jews were killed. Maus tells the story
of father who was a Polish Jew at the time of the Holocaust. Maus is also portrayed visually with
high angle shots, low angle shots, curved lines, shadows and rule of thirds. Art Spiegelman drew his
graphics in specific way, which was to grab the reader s attention more to the pictures rather than
the words because a photo can explain a thousand words. There are two underlining stories in
Maus. One story is telling how Vladeck survived Auschwitz and the other story is how Art,
Vladeck s son, gets his story from his father and the relationship between Art and Vladeck.
A graphic novel is a standalone pictorial narrative or a collective of single comic issues published
in a book format. Maus is a graphic novel where Art Spiegelman tell the story of his father s
experience in the Holocaust through pictures. Art Spiegelman does this through the use of
shadows, symmetry, low and high points and rule of thirds. A well balanced frame gives the
readers a sense of peace and security but throughout Maus there are many times where he does
not want us to feel peaceful or safe. The last frame on page 32 is a perfect example. The flag is the
vocal point. The Jews are very scared and worried. The flag is also

The Navajo Indians used to live in northwestern Canada and Alaska. 1,000 years ago the Navajo
Indians traveled south, because there was more qualities they had seeked there. When the
Navajo Indians traveled south there was a lot of oil in the 1940 s. Today the Navajo Indians are
located in the Four Corners. The marriage practices for the Navajo Indians are very unique. The
bride must be bought with horses, sheep, or other valuable items. What many Navajo Indians used
to use in the 40 s were love potions. These love potions include many plants and herbs in them,
and were used to make someone fall in love with someone else. In many traditions for Navajo

utilized and made of brush with a windbreak. The Navajo Indians are separated within two clans
to live together. The two clans were immediate family and extended family. In warm climates
men were mostly naked, but the women wore simple knee length skirts and blouses. In the
colder climates they would wear warm trousers and hooded anoraks. They would mostly wear
animal skin from the animals they hunted or raised. The Navajo Indians would also wear
paintings on their body, or permanent makings of a tattoo. The art on ones body would signify a
persons age, social or material status, or for men, their level of skill as a warrior. The Navajo
Indians would also wear many jewelry pieces. The Navajo Indians did not use silver jewelry until
around 1870. The increase of silver jewelry among the Navajo s at the time reflected the
adaptation of these peoples to life as herds and silversmiths on the newly established reservations.
The Navajo Indians had to make their own weapons, such as the bow and arrow. The bow and

The Strategies The Meiji Government Used to Achieve Economic Development?
The Meiji government during the 1880 s created both an institutional and constitution structure that
allowed Japan in the coming decades to be a stabile and industrializing country. Two major policies
and strategies that reinforced stability and economic modernization in Japan were the creation of a
national public education system and the ratification of the Meiji constitution.
Both these aided in stability and thus economic growth.
The creation of a national education system aided in creating stability because it indoctrinated
youth in the ideas of loyalty, patriotism, and obedience. Japan s education system at first stressed

people what to think and not how to think; and as
Edwin Reischauer stated, quot;Japan pioneered in the modern totalitarian technique of using the

perfecting these techniques. quot; Japan s education system was a tool in creating for Japan a
reliable citizenry who respected the government and had the knowledge to act as quot;technically

The ratification of the Meiji constitution drafted in the summer of
1887 and signed into law in 1889 helped create a stable constitutional order in
Japan. The constitution was a gift of the emperor to the people and was made up of a complicated
set of checks and balances between the emperor, his cabinet, and the Diet. The constitution although
it granted voting rights to only one percent of the population in Japan was well received by the
people and played a critical role in lending legitimacy to the oligarchy (Genro) who ran the
government. Before the constitution the Genro had little basis in theory for their continued rule

7. The Stranger
After only a few days of trial, the jury in The Stranger declares that the main character, Meursault,
is to be executed by guillotine in the town square. The trial and its verdict are one of the important
parts of the novel, as Albert Camus uses them as a metaphor to summarize the two main tenets of
absurdism. Camus uses the trial and persecution of Meursault to express his belief that the justice
system is flawed because of his absurdist ideals that truth does not exist, and human life is precious.
In order to reform the justice system, Albert Camus believes that capital punishmentneeds to be
abolished.
The trial portrays the absurdist ideal that absolute truth does not exist. This ideal destroys the very

All the facts the prosecutor presents are valid and true, though unrelated to his case. From the
prosecutor s point of view, Meursault is a monster, a man without morals (96). Even Meursault
agrees that what he was saying was plausible (99). The reader, who knows all of Meursault s
thoughts, knows how absurd the prosecution s accusations are. Throughout the trial, Camus
explains that perception means everything, and there is no absolute truth.
The conviction of Meursault represents another main point of absurdism, that life is precious. It
only takes forty five minutes for an entire jury to unanimously decide to send Meursault to the
guillotine, which is unreasonable. Camus is trying to point this out as one of society s
wrongdoings. The prosecutor s argument had appealed to the jury s emotions and society s
standards rather than reason. If the jury had not felt the emotions that were supposed to influence
their decision, the prosecutor s argument would have seemed completely irrational. In a rational
world, Meursault s emotions regarding his mother or her funeral would not have influenced his
verdict. Meursault commits a crime against an Arab, while Raymond, who had also done so earlier
in the book, did not get into any trouble. He would still be found guilty, but only for the crime he
committed. This would have definitely lightened his sentence; however, Meursault is sentenced to
death. Camus proves the court s hypocrisy and shows how human

wisdom for both us and them (pp. 120 123). Building bridges involves utilizing points of contact to
develop a closer and stronger relationship with others. Thompson offers several suggestions for
various occasions, such as sending cards, making phone calls, or visiting others. Showing God s love
by meeting the needs of others also helps to build these bridges. Thompson closes by addressing
the ultimate point of this book; the act of sharing Christ and helping new believers to grow
spiritually, including making disciples themselves. Evaluation Thompson presents a very
convicting treatise on the significance of relationships in the Christian witness. This book causes
the reader to examine their own relationships, as well as their lifestyle, in order to evaluate the
degree of the reflection of Christ in their incarnational witness. Through his systematic process of
self examination and relational observation, combined with intercessory prayer and discipleship
ministry, Thompson offers a simple, yet profound method of using personal relationships to share
the gospel of Christ with family, friends, coworkers, and complete strangers. He expounds on the
principle that mankind is a relational being, created to fellowship with God and other humans, to

except for 1978 (see Exhibit 2). However, Brazil had incurred an extremely high level of
indebtedness due to the support of this massive development program. The high interest rates on
dollar funds and the unwillingness of foreign lenders to advance additional loans caused a deep
economic recession in Brazil. Interest rates directly affect the credit market (loans) because higher
interest rates make borrowing more costly. As a result, Brazilian government who aimed to balance
the payment had to ask the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for funds.

Sangahvi cites reasons other than the 21 year age law that contribute to binge drinking such as
weak state and campus alcohol control policies...and the presence of lots of bingeing older adults
(Sangahvi). In Sangahvi s article, a notation from David Rosenbloom of the Institute of Medicine
concluded that higher taxes reduce alcohol abuse and related harm to young adults and notes the
five states with the highest beer taxes have half the binge drinking [rates] of other states
(Rosenbloom in Sangahvi). The last major part of this debate is maturity. How old is old enough?
Sangahvi mentions the thing most people think first, singling out alcohol to make it off limits is
odd, since 18 year olds may legally join the military, vote, buy cigarettes.. (Sangahvi). Chris
Alexander says This [age 18] marks the time when children become legally responsible for their
actions in American society. This is when they are considered adults (Alexander). The National
Youth Rights Association addresses the developmental aspect of the argument by saying Your body
and mind improve all through out life. A 21 year old is different from an 18 year old, just as a 41
year old is different from a 38 year old. Youth Prohibition activists ignore the fact that maturity is a
gradual but uneven process that continues throughout life and is not complete on one s twenty first
birthday (http://www.youthrights.org).

12. The Community For Survival And Support Essay
Communities play an important role in many lives. Communities are people that come together in
a time of need. It doesn t matter who you are, or where you live, you have a community around
you. Communities are held together by compassion, understanding and the heart of the community
is the volunteers. I live in a smaller community, with four schools. My community is full of
various races, lifestyles, and people. Because there is such a variety of people in my community it
is easy to see the needs for some more than others. One thingis for sure many people rely on the
community for survival and support. I had this paper done, last week, and for some reason I did
not want to turn it in I kept going back and changing a few things, but for the most part, I felt I
had completed it. I recently moved to this small community about a year ago and have never
witnessed or experienced the power of this community until this last week when a horrible
tragedy in our school community occurred. A little girl in the class I assist in was ran over by a
truck. Her condition and outlook was at first, was very grim. One thing I can say about this little
girl is she is feisty and determined but with the reports coming in, we realized this may be so much
more than her. All we had was positive thoughts and prayers; the feelingof helplessness was the
worst feeling ever. The counselor came into our room the next day, and told the kids what

18. Pros And Cons Of Police Demand
A1. Factors that are influencing labor demand.
The Mayor of the city has enacted a new policy of increasing police patrols in high crime areas in
an attempt to reduce crime rates. To meet the demands of this policy, 25 additional police officers
are required. Due to staff shortages, the department has been under public scrutiny for its excessive
work hours and overtime burdens that the current staff handles to meet demands.
The police department is experiencing an aging workforce as the average age on the force is 45
years old. Within the next few years 24% of the current force will be eligible for retirement, which
will leave vacancies that will need to be back filled.
An additional factor that affects labor demand is the current labor union contract that requires the
department to provide opportunity to promote from within. Between vacancies left behind from
retirement and promotion changes, it has been noted that approximately one quarter of the current
force will need to be replaced. These three factors increase demand for a large number of new

A2. Factors that are influencing labor supply.
Fulfilling the city s need to hire new police officers has been a challenge. One factor that affects
the labor supply is an aging workforce. Some of the best quality candidates come from recent

The South Africa the world knows today was not always one of general unity and democracy but of
division and supremacy throughout the races. John Carlin s, Playing the Enemy, guides you
through South Africa s journey during the nineteen eighties and early nineties to non racial
democracy. Through firsthand experiences of many South Africans including the dismantler of
apartheid and former president, Nelson Mandela, Carlin helps the reader understand what Mandela
and many others had to endure to make equality a reality for black South Africans. Carlin s focus
on the destruction of apartheid is coupled with the 1995 Rugby World Cup held in South Africa,
more specifically South Africa s Springboks and how Mandela used them to unite the... Show more

Mandela was not bitter and was able to put Coetsee at ease right away which unknown to
everyone then, began the spark of Mandela s rule. Carlin takes you through Mandela working his
way up the political ladder starting with Coetsee, than to Niel Barnard, head of state intelligence,
than to President PW Botha, FW de Klerke, the successor of Botha, and lastly, General Constand
Viljoen, the man who wanted to go to war against Mandela s government when Mandela did come
to power. Carlin gives full justice to Mandela and what he had to do to go from prisoner to president
in a matter of 4 years. During apartheid most of the South African population either thought
themselves to be with whites or with the coloured side. The white side was made mostly of the
Afrikaans, the white Dutch descendants. Although a smaller percentage of the population, these
white people were generally the wealthy and based their acceptance of apartheid on fear, Carlin
states. Fear of unemployment, loss of land and sharing the wealth were all factors that contributed
to this outlook. The white population generally did not hate Mandela himself but just feared his
motives. They questioned if he wanted to become president for redemption and make their fears
reality or if Mandela simply wanted equality. The black side was made up of the native peoples of
South Africa including Mandela s native tribe, Tembu Xhosa which is a common native language.
The blacks were obviously against the oppression they

20. Christian Worldview
Critical Thinking Let us ponder about how other religions worldviews relate to the Biblical
worldview. There are three main areas or types of worldviews, Pantheists (Hinduism, Buddhism),
Secularism (naturalism), and Theism (Christianity, Islam, Judaism). I will answer 5 basic
questions on just one of the non Christian worldviews and then compare it to the Biblical
worldview. Part one will be about Buddhism and part two will compare Buddhism and the
Biblical worldview. The questions to be answered are: 1. The Question of Origin. 2. The Question
of Identity. 3. The Question of Meaning/Purpose. 4. The Question of Destiny. Part One The

[xi] Next we need to know, what is our meaning in life? Jesus in John 17:3 states our meaning is
that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. [xii] Our
purpose is to know God. We should seek Him by reading His word and have a close personal
relationship with Him. Buddhism does not have a personal god. They feel we need to treat
every living thing the same way to reach Nirvana. Now let s answer the question of morality. We
get our morality from God. God is the standard by which this is based. God is the ultimate good
and there is no other place that we should seek to justify our actions. Jesus gave us the greatest
commandments as stated in Matt. 22:37 38 You shall love the Lord your God with all your
heart, with all your soul, and with all you mind. And it continues, You shall love your neighbor as
yourself. If we follow these commandments, we will have no problem distinguishing between
right and wrong. The Buddhists follow the Eight Paths, which is very close to love you neighbor
as yourself (Matt. 22:38), but they look internally to the god within them for guidance. [xiii]
Finally, how does the Biblical worldview discuss destiny? This is simple, if we accept Jesus into
our hearts and follow His

Critically analyse how a multi level governance perspective can help us understand the policy

national level governance, national governance, sub national governance is already a reality for the
citizens of the United Kingdom .There is no longer only one or two levels of government as in the
past Central Government and local government . Government is the traditional understanding of
how the UK is governed from Westminster through formal institutions and elected government.

(Held et al.,1999,p8) There are many organisations which operate on the international stage which
broadly fall into two groups intergovernmental organisations (IGOs) such as the United Nations,
World Bank, and the World Trade Organisation, and also non governmental organisations (NGOs)
such as Oxfam, Greenpeace, or the International Red Cross. IGOs and NGOs are important actors
in the governance process. (Hague and Harrop,2001, p.50 ) Multinational companies (MNCs) are
also hugely powerful players on the world stage as nations have often become economically
dependent on the vast amounts of capital which these companies generate. Around fifty percent of
world production is undertaken by multi national companies. The UK government often mounts
huge efforts to encourage multi national companies to remain here in the UK. Multi national
companies can exert real pressure on the policy process in the UK merely by suggesting that they
will relocate. Companies are mobile while the state is not! For example the UK government
managed to persuade Ford to retain production of Jaguar cars within Britain by the use of attractive
financial incentives. ( Hague and Harrop, 2001, p.57 ) In that particular case they were successful,
however there has been an increasing trend for multi national companies to relocate their

23. Social Actors And Organizations As One Working Unit
Blumer lastly notes that although many methodologies observe large social actors and
organizations as one working unit, this does not allow the understanding of how the organization
functions. Researchers should look at the individuals within the organization to see how those
individuals fit together and how they interact. The interactions of the people within the organization
paint a picture of how the organization functions and makes its decisions. Blumer sums up his
essay perfectly by saying respect the empirical world and organize a methodological stance to
reflect that respect (Blumer 1986, p. 60). Criticisms of Symbolic Interactionism As with any theory

His reasoning behind why he believes this is a bit confusing and does not fully explain why this
data is unreliable. He does explain that data created from a recreated world is not useable which
is understandable because it is not being taken from the real world, but he does not fully explain
why quantitative data taken from the real world is inherently wrong. He dismisses any validity
it may hold. This is also confusing for the reader because he is very vocal about testability. He
sees testability as important but throws out research types with clear testability. Many believe that
Blumer s symbolic interactionism lacks hard evidence and testability. A person interprets a
symbol and acts how they choose to act. This lacks the ability to be tested incorrect. Because this
theory allows for the actor to respond in any way they want, then the theory can never be proven
wrong meaning there is no testability (Melzer, Petros, and Reynolds 1975). Skidmore (1975)
points out that Blumer s theory does not account for why an actor will make the same choice in a
given situation. This paper allows for the assumption that every time an actor faces a situation they
consciously interpret it and then make a choice on how to respond. This does not account for the
unconscious acts and feelings that go into an action. Some actions are made without a full

24. Equal Rights Amendment Argument
The Boundless Push for the Equal Rights Amendment
The progress that lead to the ratification process of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), in 1972,
began over a century earlier. The advocates for women s rights began their efforts in 1848 at the
first Women s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York , where a meeting of 300 men and
women was held which called for justice for women in a society that limited their privileges. By
1900, women had gained the right to keep their earnings and own property. By 1920, they had
gained the right to vote. By 1963, women were paid equally to men for completing the same work.
In 1964, the Civil Rights Amendment was passed and outlawed discrimination based on gender,
religion, and race. In 1972, Title IX ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Equal Rights Amendment stated, Equality of rights under the law shall not be abridged by the
United States or by any State on account of sex. Schlafly, and her Stop ERA movement, were
strongly opposed to this societal change. In Schlafly s speech, What s Wrong with Equal Rights
for Women?, in 1972, she vocalized that, Of all the classes of people who ever lived, the
American woman is the most privileged. We have the most rights and rewards, and the fewest
duties. Our unique status is the result of a fortunate combination of circumstances. The anti equal
rights group believed that the ERA would lead women away from the support of their husbands,
overturn privacy rights, send women into combat, uphold abortion rights and same sex
marriages, and ultimately leave women with less rights than before. Phyllis Schlafly and Stop
ERA supporters believed that the ERA was morally impractical because it would eliminate the
traditional role of a female in society. Despite Schlafly s speeches, feminists and pro ERA
supporters continued to push for equal rights and finally, on March 22, 1972, the Equal Rights
Amendment passed the U.S. Senate and then the House of Representatives and continued to the
states in order to be ratified. In order for the ERA to be added to the Constitution, it needed
approval from thirty eight of the fifty states within the span of seven years. After the seven years,
only thirty five states had approved the amendment, falling three states short of ratification. This
lack in support was influenced by Schlafly s anti abortion and gay rights opinions after delegates
and female protesters began to support taxpayer funding of abortions and a new gay rights agenda.

The Spread of Buddhism and Christianity
Buddhism and Christianity were each founded by one person, and then eventually grew into two of
the largest religions in the world. Each religion had different reasons for the success in the
spreading of each respected belief. Although both faced many hardships, the two religions
overcame and prevailed through their problems and continued to find ways to attract new believers
every day.
Buddhism was founded by one man, Siddhartha Guatama. He was born into royalty around 563
B.C.E. in a Kingdom near the border of India and Nepal. He was raised in wealth and luxury, and
at the age of 16, he married a wealth woman and they had a child together. Around the age of 29,

When, through his Buddhahood, he had cognized this fact, the earth swayed like a woman
drunken with wine, the sky shone bright with the Siddhas who appeared in crowds in all the
directions, and the mighty drums of thunder resounded through the air. Pleasant breezes blew
softly, rain fell from a cloudless sky, flowers and fruits dropped from the trees out of season in an
effort, as it were, to show reverance for him,? (The Global Experience, Ashvaghosha, pg. 79).
Having achieved enlightenment, the Buddha began spreading his knowledge to help others achieve
?Nirvana?, which means to be released from the reincarnation cycle. He preached that there were 4
Noble Truths: (1) all life is suffering; (2) the source of suffering is desire; (3) to end desiring is to
end suffering; (4) there is an eight fold path to end suffering; to have the right understanding,
thought, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and concentration. This idea of being
released from suffering attracted many people, and Buddhism soon spread rapidly through Northern
India, and then through Southern India.
However, the popularity of this form of Buddhism (Theravada, as it came to be known, meaning
?way of the elders?) began to dwindle as only a few people were being able to enlightenment as it
was so difficult. It was mainly monks who were practicing the eight fold path, and they would

26. The Cherry Orchard by Anton Pavlovich Chekov
What is memory? Memory is the power or process of reproducing or recalling what has been
learned and retained especially through associative mechanisms. Having this in mind I am
confronted with a question which is what is the major theme in The Cherry Orchard? Memory
plays an enormous role in the story. Memory is one of the many main necessities within society.
Memory is a fundamentally important part of development for society. It is a way to have
knowledge of our past selves, to gaze upon how things were so great, or how much society has
changed throughout the years. The Cherry Orchard, by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, is a
significant story in terms of various symbolisms it includes. As the title suggests, the play took
place in a cherry orchard. The plot includes lots of various symbolisms. For instance, memory is
an important symbol in the play. What memory means for each character and what it represents
varies between each character. In The Cherry Orchard, memory is seen both as a source of
personal identity and as a burden. Each character is involved in a struggle to remember, but at the
same time in a struggle to forget certain aspects of their past. When looking back to the past,
society tends to look at the major defaults of the past, or vice versa looking at the major
accomplishments of the past. Society must learn to look at the everyday normal events that
happens in life, this means that it can be an everyday routine like a walk in the park, meeting up

29. Comparing Oedipus and Job Essay
Classical literature is filled with stories of capricious deities playing with human lives as if they
were only toys. The Greek tradition of tragedy is based upon celebrating this very aspect of the
nature of the pantheon of Greek gods. Sophocles finds a perfect example of this celebration of fate,
in the tragedy Oedipus the King. Conversely, the Story of Job uses the dramatic tension of a wager
between Godand Satan on the sincerity of Job s devotion to God. Where Oedipus life, regardless
of personal choice, is bound up by fated situations and their fated outcomes, Job s story is one of
choice in the midst of supernaturally imposed difficulties. While both strive to teach resignation to

/ Even if I should shroud it all in silence. (321) This expresses a notion of fated beginnings and
fated endings. The view of fate the book of Job expresses, though similar in that it originates from
God, differs in a few important ways. In Job, situations are predetermined to occur, but the personal
choices of the people involved determine the outcome of the situation. The story of Job opens with
Job s fate of suffering being planned. Satan presents himself in an audience before God. God
makes example of Job, and Satan rebuffs, stating that Job s constancy is only because of God s
preferential treatment. Satan tells God, But put forth thy hand now and touch all he hath, and
he will curse thee to thy face. (40). In response, power is given to Satan to torment Job as a test.
Job s life and finally health are viciously mangled and destroyed by Satan. Though Job does not
know the reasons behind his great suffering, we are told that In all this Job sinned not, nor
charged God foolishly. (41), and In all this did not Job sin with his lips. (41). Self pity creeps into
Job s thoughts and words, but there is no disenchanted turn from God. Instead in Job the reader
sees a turn to God for relief and

We are socialized to assumed heterosexuality is normal because it is all around us. Most of us are
born into a heterosexual, mom and dad relationship. As we grow up looking up to them it becomes
normal to see heterosexuality. Throughout my upbringing, my parents did not talk about
homosexuality much. All of my family members throughout at least the first two generations
identify as straight, so it was not something I grew up being around. Therefore it was never
talked about in a positive or negative way. In biology class and church we are taught that we are
on this earth to reproduce and contribute to the renewal of civilization. To do this the normal way
you would get married and heterosexually reproduce. It is taught that the only natural way to have
sex is inserting a penis into a vagina. Institutions reinforce this by continuing to teach children
throughout their education that man and woman are the normal thing. This belief came from the
fact that a female egg cannot turn into a fetus unless it is fertilized by a male sperm. The cycle of
heterosexual socialization promotes heterosexism because it is promoted as the right thing to do
throughout all forms of media and teachings. When all you see as a positive thing growing up is
heterosexual, married couples with biological kids you are conformed to think that is the only way
to find happiness. Heteronormative socialization excludes many different types of people such as

Morally ambiguous characters are seen all throughout different works of literature. In The
Crucible by Arthur Miller, Reverend Hale can be considered a morally ambiguous character
because of the actions he takes throughout the play. Reverend Hale can be considered morally
ambiguous because he helps capture the accused witches but he consoles them as he is doing it
and is reassuring them that everything will be okay. This can be taken as morally ambiguous
because he is considered evil for going around and arresting the accused without proof that isn t an
accusation and taking part in the witch hunts in general, but he is also making them feel better by
telling them that they will be okay, which also gives him good quality. An example of this is when
he arrests Rebecca Nurse. When he is arresting her and taking her into custody, he is telling her that
it breaks his heart to capture her like that but they must because they cannot be sure that the Devil

Thomas Edison Discovers Light Have you ever wondered who made light and where it came

38. Analysis Of Manifest Destiny By John Ghast
When analyzing the components of the American Dream, success, hard work, perseverance, and
luck all can be considered. During the late 1800 s hardworking immigrants from all walks of life
had a dream of clearing their own way to a better future through the newly developing United States
of America. Although some would argue that the immigrants and frontiersmen of the early eighth
century were quite different from one another, they all had one equal goal and dream. The right and
hope that they would prosper in a land as foreign as often time the language they would encounter.
In 1872 painter John Ghast created an art piece entitled Manifest Destiny. In what would become a
lasting symbol of the development of the west, Ghast tied several different people and goals into
one beautiful painting. Through several different art forms, styles, and smaller scenes throughout
the painting, it becomes evident that the american dream, more importantly the right of prosperity,
was not only tangible to the men and women of the great american frontierbut, also a basic human
right.
Manifest Destiny stretches a process of cultivation that naturally occurred over one hundred
years into one single elegant painting. The painting has a natural transition across the frontier,
from the right to the left, in chronological order of expansion. In the top right of the art piece a
river lazily bends and twist along flat, barren land. Dotting the banks of the river, if someone

Death on the Prairies: The Murderous Blizzard of 1888 On January 12, 1888, the weather in the
west was mild, compared to previous weeks. Little did the people know that a massive cold front
was in route and would be catastrophic to the people, their livestock, and the economy in the
dekota and nebraska praries. The cold front would cause one of the worst blizzards for the region,
killing close to 500 people. The factors that made the death toll so high involve the mild weather
before the storm, the lack of technology for warning systems, and bad timing. On the day of
January 12, farmers and children from all over the nebraska territory believed that that day was

The team of investigators is finished recording for today. They begin reviewing the footage and

considered to be spirits of deceased people. They are known to possess objects and haunt people.
Their existence is very controversial because there is little evidence in order to prove they are
real. Ghosts are real because there is photographic evidence, auditory evidence, and there is no way
to prove that they are not real. There is photographic evidence for the existence of ghosts.

The Smithsonian Magazine article How Japan Copied American Culture and Made it Better
describes how Japan outdoes America in Americana, taking iconic American products such as
bourbon, burgers, jazz, and clothing, improving and elevating them (Downey). It is simply
incredible that they have taken their single minded attention to detail and focused on what makes
these American products good, and then reinvented them into an even greater version than the
original. Even Kumon, the Japanese math enrichment program, is based on a system of self
learning through repetition resulting in perfecting the student s ability to perform math calculations
accurately and to retain the material learned (Kumon). As the saying goes, Practice makes perfect,
and what is repetition, but practice? Another hallmark of the shokunin philosophy which is seen in
Japanese culture is their sense of purpose with regard to work. The shokunin seeks perfection in
their craft, not for personal gain or accolades, but rather to push the boundaries of the craft and
make it better. A shokunin who is trained in the craft of tategu shi, shoji screen making, Toshio
Odate, is interviewed in the article The Craft of the Shokunin (Warner 1). Odate s work is done

44. The Political Definition Of Fascism
For the average citizen of a nation, the political definition of fascism and even the word itself
has been left out of people s everyday vernacular. The most recent extent of fascism that people
can remember is Adolf Hitler s era of political control over seventy two years. In recent decades,
however, European Countries and even the United States of America have seen a recent rise in
fascist leaning ideologies and political parties due in part to online development, Immigration and
elections trends, and a paradoxical view of tolerance. These recent trends have signaled that fascism
is still a problem and presents a clear danger to society and democratic principles at large. While
the general ideology was technically developed by Italian Dictator and ally to Hitler, Benito
Mussolini, it is Adolf Hitler himself who is best known as the face of fascist movements of the
past and movements today. In early 1930 s Germany, Hitler was able to capitalize on the social
and economic woes of a country who felt disenfranchised and left behind by the world. By
promoting ideas of German nationalism including a strong German military, a strong pure
German culture and nation, and using minority groups such as the Jew s as a scapegoat, Hitler
was able to take control of Germany and institute a Fascist system of government and create the
similar ideological trends we see in Fascist idea s and similar groups today. Today fascism as an

the globe, that an industry that is heavily technological based should also follow suit. This allows
for both old and new organizations to tap in the growth of both the human and technological capital

s considered the largest cable distributor in the US and despite the growing competition from Pay
TV providers such as Hulu and Netflix, it still maintains a strong position as an organization that
can thrive in today s highly competitive global economy. However, given this realization, the
shareholder should also be a little cautious, because Comcast still faces a number of obstacles that
might impede or compromise the growth of expected return when shareholders invest in their
securities. As mentioned before, there s a growing number of competitors that offer different,
cheaper telecommunication services that still uphold the consumer s expectations in regards of
entertainment, such as streamlining content from the internet and offering the consumer the choice
of preferring skinnier packages (cable/TV programming) at cheaper rates. These rising competitors
will give Comcast a run for their money as consumers will switch from the traditional cable outlets,
such as Comcast and Cox, in favor for a service such as Google or Sling. Another thing to take into
account is the uncertainty of the FCC s decisions at imposing stronger regulations in regards to
broadband width and internet connections; the Net Neutrality Act might place a hindrance on the

46. Difference Between Nation And State
Professor Now, we re all familiar, I think, with the United Nations organization, and we re very
accustomed to a world divided into nations but many of you may not realize how recent the idea
of the nation state really is. Most of the history of civilization s been a history of much smaller
units from primitive tribes to Greek city states and later of the much larger units usually called
empires. The concept of a political and cultural nation, as we know it today, didn t appear until near
the end of the 18th century, at the time of the French and American Revolutions. Let s look at a
couple of terms first, just to make them clear. Strictly speaking, a nation is a cultural concept a

So maybe we d better take a more careful look at the factors that seem to contribute to the idea of
nation statehood . First, geography is an obvious factor. Countries like Japan and New Zealand
have very clear boundaries, and their physical isolation makes these nations very homogeneous.
However, geography is often irrelevant Ireland and Cyprus are certainly very strongly divided
islands. And many countries, notably African countries, have boundaries that have nothing to do
with natural features or ethnicity or anything else. They are simply straight lines drawn in the last
century by former colonial powers. Is there a question?
Student Yes! Isn t the language also a determining factor?
Professor Indeed! And then there s language, which is also used as a rationale for nationhood. The
United States and Germany and France are all large, successful states that are defined mostly by
language. But on one hand, many international boundaries cut directly across language lines, as
with Belgium and The Netherlands while on the other hand, countries like South Africa and India
include speakers of many different languages. And a common ethnicity that is, a common genetic
background and a common cultural heritage have certainly helped determine the identity of many
nation states.

The main theme in The Distant Past is a depiction of how the past continues to affect the present,
even after fifty years. Although over the past several years, it seems that past events have been
laid to rest after Ireland s most independence from Britain in 1921, old conflicts in the city fade
away. However, the Middletons, an Anglo Irish family still loyal to Britain, of living with the
Catholic people in the town that is loyal to Ireland, not Britain, has been forgotten. This includes
even the incident where Fat Conroy and two other men stood in the Middleton houseroom, ready
to shoot at British soldiers, while Middleton, who was children at the time, was locked in a room
on the top floor. After many years, participants in this incident are able to laugh with each other
about it. It seems as if the old wounds have healed. When violence broke out again in the late 1960s,
this time between Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland, it initially seemed that it would
not cause any harm to the city s relations. Residents of the Catholic town and the Protestant
Middleton speak of violence with a common voice, condemning violence. But when British
troops are sent to Northern Ireland and tourism drops to the city because people fear Ireland is no
longer a safe place to visit, attitudes are changing. People are angry at the decline in trade and
asked someone to blame. As a result, the friendships that have passed for years crossed political,

All of the examined risk factors and demographic features, except parental relationship status and

using CP, where as those who were Hispanic, foreign born or Catholic were at lower than average
risk. According to Table 2 in the article, as with CP, higher levels of each of the assessed
maternal parenting risks were associated with risks for higher levels of child aggression. These

CP and child aggression. In addition, children who were male or whose mothers were younger,
