7.  In a press release, the Executive Committee of the European Diagnostics Manufacturers
Association (EDMA) and the Board of the European Medical Technology Industry Association
(Eucomed) - both members of MedTech Europe - in a continuous effort to reinforce their
respective Codes of Ethical Business Practice, announced their recommendation to members
to phase out by 1 January 2018 direct industry sponsorship of healthcare professionals (HCPs)
to third-party organised conferences.

9.  Between 2008 and 2060 the population of the EU-28 aged 65 and over is projected to
increase by 66.9 million and the "very old" (80+) will be the fastest growing segment of the
population.

10.  ”It is expected that life expectancy will continue to rise over the next few decades. Currently,
across the EU-region, 13% of the population is aged 65 or older, but it is predicted that by 2030,
24% of the population will be 65 or older.
For health care systems, the impact of this growth in the older population brings challenges,
such as a growth in the number of people living with multiple chronic conditions, facing loss of
independence, loss of autonomy and potential negative outcomes regarding healthy life
expectancy.

surgeons who have qualified in one country and move to practice in another

 Produce orthopaedic and trauma surgeons who are safe to screen the range of referrals that can
be made to the orthopaedic and/or trauma service.

 Guiding principle:
 Not to impose a European Curriculum.
 To act as a guide for implementation at a national level through national association.
 Both UEMS (European Union of Medical Specialists) and EFORT about wide variation in
Orthopaedics and Traumatology Education in Europe.
 To help in harmonizing the different process of Orthopaedics &Traumatology Education in
Europe.
 Leeway for each National Association to adopt or adjust it to their National requirements.

 It all starts with a survey to our membership network.
 We could filter out information such as:
• Overview of the different aspects of training and assessment around Europe.• Training programmes were mainly based on national curriculum (limitation in external views).• Assessed in priority the list and number of operations.
• Common specialities within Orthopaedics & Traumatology training.

15.  Followed by a call to participate.
 Participation was expected to be low.
 28 participating countries what represents 85 % of the EU member states by population and
60 % of the countries.
 Nowadays the draft curriculum is in consultation with the respective section of UEMS for
endorsement.
