Solution Focus & ADHD: Presentation at the ADHD Hellas Conference 2014 ENFania Pallikarakis
More than 300 people attended the 2nd Conference “ADHD: An Enduring Challenge” organized by ADHD Hellas on the 18th & 19th October in Athens.
The Conference was held under the auspices of the Athens Medical School, the World Federation for Mental Health, and the City of Athens, and with the support of the U.S. Embassy.
During the conference, the participants had the opportunity to listen to speakers from various disciplines, approaching the ADHD from various perspectives.
In the framework of the Conference was held the workshop “Solution Focus; Focus on the Parents”. The results of the workshop were thereafter presented in the plenary session, along with a debriefing of how the Solution Focus approach is used abroad.
This presentation provides a brief overview of Dr. Fay's Love and Logic philosophy. Love and Logic is a Classroom management philosophy that uses simple techniques designed to enhance relationships between students and teachers.
Firm Hand, Open Heart is a classroom management program specifically designed for the secondary ESL classroom. The main thrust of the design is on leading positively and sometimes passively, as the role of the teacher varies as the needs of the class dictate. Several myths about classroom management will be addressed, such as the misguided notion that smiling indicates weakness or that a teacher deemed “cool” by students cannot be an effective classroom supervisor. Classroom management of ESL classes is more than classroom leadership. It’s about making choices that can have an everlasting effect on the education of second language learners. In order to have a successful classroom, both instructor and student need to live with integrity, be humble, practice generosity, build together, choose optimism and have a purpose. As in the business world, a successful teacher needs to know the customers, what makes students, parents and co-workers unique and what will serve as motivating factors even during the most challenging circumstances. Firm Hand, Open Heart features methodologies and philosophies that will demonstrate how reason, policy and empathy can work together, just as instructors and students can succeed together, to create a classroom environment that is enjoyable and instructive.

What if school actually prepared you for life?Scott Schimmel
You can succeed in school but never find the meaning, purpose, or connection you deeply desire. What if there was a way for students to find clarity about their identity, their purpose, and relationships?

Scenario # 1: You were hired in June to teach first grade. It is now August and the principal that hired you has now been moved to another campus. It is 5 days before school begins and the new principal is standing at your classroom door. He/she wants you to explain your lesson plan that includes learning centers. 2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
