Help Ingrid to understand how the district’s CFA can assist her instructional efforts. Given her current second-quarter goals, offer one suggestion for an appropriate formative assessment strategy in Language Arts and Math.
The tricky thing would be spending time on a lesson while having students understand the material. However, more than half may fail or barely pass on the assessments. As a new teacher, I know that she may feel a little bit more pressure. Mentoring Ingrid includes explaining to her that Common Formative Assessments (CFAs) are provided to the students multiple times a year for several reasons. One of the main reasons would be to ensure that every student in the classroom is at the same level. This means that she will know if a student is falling behind or working ahead of the other students, meaning they may need more attention. Another reason would be a perpetual configuration of the classroom, school, and district assessments to prepare students better for success on the state assessments, according to Ainsworth (2008). Basically, she could do a practice test for the state assessment at the end of the year. Ingrid would ensure all her students will pass since she knows what needs to be worked on to prepare them for testing. One formative assessment strategy for Language Arts and Math would be to set daily assessments such as one or two questions on the material being taught. This way, she knows who is grasping the material and where they may be lost. According to Hansen (2015), for math, the assessment will include adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions, dividing a whole number by a fraction, and estimating.
What advice would you give Melanie for developing assessments for learning that encourage and bring smiles to her kindergartners?
The advice that I can give Melanie is that every kid loves playing games. My favorite thing about students in kindergarten is that they have the wildest or craziest imaginations ever. I would use those towards any assessment because she could ask them what they think the number one looks like. She can have them draw what the number looks like to them. I would also tell her not to give up on helping them learn because within the first 5-6 years of anyone’s life is where we will learn the most.

Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

What educational requirements did you complete to become a
teacher?
"My degree is in Elementary Education (BSIS ) Bachelor of Science in
Interdisciplinary Studies. I hold specializations in Reading and ESL. I
also have a Masters in Educational Leadership. I remember taking all
the basics like English, Government, Speech, Zoology. The classes
related directly to teaching included 36 hours of Reading.
Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of each class. I do
remember teaching at the ECH Lab at SFA and the Reading Clinic. I
remember learning to set up learning centers and teaching phonics.
When I started my classes for ESL, I remember taking Contrastive
Linguistics. I remember this class because it was challenging for me
but I had a great professor!"
5. REFLECTION ONE
After Mrs. Murray answered my first question, I am more
aware of the requirements that I must undergo to get
my certification. Mrs. Murray provides information on
how she specialized in Reading and ESL. She also
provided information on the master she had in order to
become an assistant principal. This information was very
helpful because maybe someday I also may want to
become a principal. She has taught for many years and
has shown much promise into become an assistant
principal. I am now more knowledgeable in steps I can
take if I want to pursue a different path other than
teaching.
6. QUESTION TWO
What professional development have you participated in
since becoming a teacher?
"Since becoming a teacher I have been to professional
development on teaching creative writing, Science, Math,
and a lot of technology. I have been to CAST (science
conference), CAMT (math conference) numerous times.
Both of these conferences offer sessions on best
practices for teaching math and science for all grade
levels. I have attended many technology classes at the
Region 7 service center on how to use technology in the
classroom to supplement student instruction. I have been
to sessions on the best educational software, and online
programs which will enhance student learning."
7. REFLECTION TWO
Mrs. Murray provided an entire list of professional developments she
has been to. She explains how all of these professional developments
will enhance student learning. This has given me a better idea of just
how many professional developments are offered once I enter the
teaching world. I was worried that once I became a teacher,
professional developments would only happen a couple times a year,
but she has reassured me that there will be much more opportunities
to learn and enhance my teaching in order to engage my students. As
a future teacher, I would want to learn more about how to
continuously engage my students and make their learning better.
