Design and Development Techniques for Accessibility: WordCamp Tampa 2015Robert Jolly
I’ll explore basic web accessibility principles for web designers, developers, and site owners, then show how to turn seemingly daunting and confusing accessibility requirements into understandable, actionable tasks and techniques. The talk will cover some of the accessibility-specific WordPress plugins and themes available, as well as some quick, easy tests to integrate into design and development workflows.
Presentation for the Western Arts Federation Accessibility Institute 2013. How to understand whether sites are accessible and how to encourage staff and creatives to get on board!
So much of the library information and service we provide is online, and making our digital content accessible helps everyone in our community succeed. Following accessibility best practices not only improves the library experience, it also promotes diversity and inclusion by directly improving the equity of access for all library users. Learn some simple, inclusive-design guidelines for creating accessible digital content such as your website, LibGuides, Word docs, PDFs, and more. Finally, leave with tools and actionable tips for how to help make your library services and digital content more accessible and inclusive.
This presentation introduces technology and the good, the bad, and the ugly aspects of it. How assistive technology hardware and software improve people's lives and give them so much freedom, regardless of their abilities. Next, it focuses on the cognitive issues and why UX Designers and Developers need to empathetic and consider specific points as they design and create accessible designs, also known as Universal Design. It closes with tips for designing with empathy and emphasizing the "Empathy is the next differentiator!"
eLearning and Networking Technologies to Mimic the In-Person Experiencejanetkrenn
Conducting an online graduate-level course poses many technological challenges that aren’t often experienced in e-Learning, which typically involves undergraduate-level students watching slideshow presentations. Not only were the students of Theory and Practice of Collaborative Fisheries Research course expected to view lectures synchronously, they were expected to verbally contribute to discussions in the online classroom, and occasionally present their own lecture. Outside of the classroom, PIs hoped to provide a private social networking space for students to interact with the goal of developing a future cohort of professional researchers interested in working collaboratively with industry. Following a needs and goals assessment, technologies were chosen that resulted in an overall successful solution. This presentation will review the considerations, opportunities, and challenges of conducting an online experience to mimic in-person education and networking.
What is user experience and why does it matterSarah Horton
Many factors influence decision-making when producing websites, applications, and apps. In many cases, decision-making is focused on addressing the values of the producer, and the most important factor is overlooked: the consumer. People are loyal to products and services that satisfy their needs and provide content and features that they value. Providing a good user experience benefits both consumer and producer.
In this session we will look at user experience broadly, and then through the lens of accessibility, as a way of bringing into focus the value of providing accessible and enjoyable user experiences.

# Internet Security: Safeguarding Your Digital World
In the contemporary digital age, the internet is a cornerstone of our daily lives. It connects us to vast amounts of information, provides platforms for communication, enables commerce, and offers endless entertainment. However, with these conveniences come significant security challenges. Internet security is essential to protect our digital identities, sensitive data, and overall online experience. This comprehensive guide explores the multifaceted world of internet security, providing insights into its importance, common threats, and effective strategies to safeguard your digital world.
## Understanding Internet Security
Internet security encompasses the measures and protocols used to protect information, devices, and networks from unauthorized access, attacks, and damage. It involves a wide range of practices designed to safeguard data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Effective internet security is crucial for individuals, businesses, and governments alike, as cyber threats continue to evolve in complexity and scale.
### Key Components of Internet Security
1. **Confidentiality**: Ensuring that information is accessible only to those authorized to access it.
2. **Integrity**: Protecting information from being altered or tampered with by unauthorized parties.
3. **Availability**: Ensuring that authorized users have reliable access to information and resources when needed.
## Common Internet Security Threats
Cyber threats are numerous and constantly evolving. Understanding these threats is the first step in protecting against them. Some of the most common internet security threats include:
### Malware
Malware, or malicious software, is designed to harm, exploit, or otherwise compromise a device, network, or service. Common types of malware include:
- **Viruses**: Programs that attach themselves to legitimate software and replicate, spreading to other programs and files.
- **Worms**: Standalone malware that replicates itself to spread to other computers.
- **Trojan Horses**: Malicious software disguised as legitimate software.
- **Ransomware**: Malware that encrypts a user's files and demands a ransom for the decryption key.
- **Spyware**: Software that secretly monitors and collects user information.
### Phishing
Phishing is a social engineering attack that aims to steal sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details. Attackers often masquerade as trusted entities in email or other communication channels, tricking victims into providing their information.
### Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) Attacks
MitM attacks occur when an attacker intercepts and potentially alters communication between two parties without their knowledge. This can lead to the unauthorized acquisition of sensitive information.
### Denial-of-Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) Attacks
