DevOps is not a new technology or a product. It's an approach or culture of SW development that seeks stability and performance at the same time that it speeds software deliveries to the business. We will discuss this cultural shift where development teams have to accept the feedback of operations teams and the operations team should be ready to accept frequent updates to the SW that it's running.

A session on how to use Azure DevOps best practices for developing and publishing applications and infrastructure to Azure, whether you use PaaS, FaaS or IaaS
DevOps is an increasingly useful tool for achieving business objectives, enabling your teams to work together to improve the efficiency and quality of software delivery. However, despite its growing popularity, there is still a lack of clarity over what DevOps actually means, how organizations should do it and what's the best way to get started.
DevOps 101 takes a brief look at the history of DevOps, why it started, what problems it is intended to solve and how you can start implementing it.
The slides were delivered by James Betteley, Head of Education at the DevOpsGuys in a one-hour webinar. The full recording is available here - https://youtu.be/4gC3WpbetKs?t=2s
James has spent the last few years neck-deep in the world of DevOps transformation, helping a wide range of organizations optimize the way they collaborate to deliver better software, faster. James was joined by Elizabeth Ayer, Portfolio Manager, from Redgate Software. Elizabeth looks after a range of Redgate products that help teams extend their DevOps practices to SQL Server databases.

DevOps is a methodology capturing the practices adopted from the very start by the web giants who had a unique opportunity as well as a strong requirement to invent new ways of working due to the very nature of their business: the need to evolve their systems at an unprecedented pace as well as extend them and their business sometimes on a daily basis.
While DevOps makes obviously a critical sense for startups, I believe that the big corporations with large and old-fashioned IT departments are actually the ones that can benefit the most from adopting these principles and practices.

This presentation gives a comprehensive introduction to DevOps, for Agile development practitioners. In 2018, there are many misunderstandings about Agile & DevOps and how they relate to one another. Too many think of Agile (development) as primarily "Scrum", and that DevOps is Continuous Integration & Delivery (both of which are wrong). This presentation describes the meaning, origin & history of DevOps from an Agile development perspective.

This is an intro guide to share some of the common concepts of SRE to a non-technical audience. We will look at both technical and organizational changes that should be adopted to increase operational efficiency, ultimately benefiting for global optimizations - such as minimize downtime, improve systems architecture & infrastructure:

- Defining error budgets
- Better monitoring of systems
- Getting the best out of systems alerting
- Eliminating manual, repetitive actions (toils) by automation
- Designing better on-call shifts/rotations
How to design the role of the Site Reliability Engineer (who effectively works between application development teams and operations support teams)

DevOps movement emphasizes tearing the boundaries between makers (Development) & caretakers (Operations) of IT services/products.
DevOps is the combination of two words: “Dev,” meaning a compound development, and “Ops,” representing operations. And the combination of words refers to the union of people, processes, and technology to deliver continuous development and provide value to the customers. In simple terms, DevOps is a development methodology that not just brings everyone to the table to create highly effective and secure code faster but also combines cultural philosophies, practices, and tools to meet the organization’s demand to deliver services at high velocity.
This presentation was delivered by Pink Elephant for the launch of the DevOps Certification framework in Asia. During the two-hour breakfast session, speakers Jan-Willem Middelburg and Karen Chua explained the business case for DevOps and provided an overview of the DevOps Certification Scheme of the DevOps Agile Skills Association (DASA).
DevOps is a culture, movement or practice that emphasizes the collaboration and communication between all relevant information-technology (IT) professionals to deliver high quality, valuable IT services to customers. It aims to improve the performance of the IT services through establishing flow in the delivery of all aspects of the IT service. Which means creating a culture, organization, and environment in which the building, testing, releasing and supporting software and infrastructure changes can happen rapidly, frequently and more reliably, often through extensive automation.
AWS re:Invent 2016: Lift and Evolve – Saving Money in the Cloud is Easy, Maki...Amazon Web Services
Every enterprise knows by now that it can save money by simply lifting and shifting workloads to the cloud, but many are missing the larger opportunity to also make money by moving. While quick costs savings are good for the bottom line, they do little to move the top line numbers. To achieve both savings and earnings, corporate thinking about technologies must change in order to enable faster processes leveraged enterprise-wide. In this session we will explore multiple customer success stories where the customers have evolved from leveraging basic compute and storage products (EC2 and S3) to integrating new services into operations by leveraging Lambda, DynamoDB, CodeDeploy, etc. Once this is achieved, enterprises are enabled to manage and deploy code rapidly in a programmatic and elastic secure network, ensuring governance and security standards across the globe. We will look at the migration process trusted by hundreds of clients as well as how to cope with the process and people components that are so important to enable agility, while focusing heavily on the technology. The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) and 2nd Watch story will dive deep into the technology that allows TCCC to manage hundreds of AWS Accounts, hundreds of workloads, thousands of instances, and hundreds of business partners around the globe. TCCC’s Configuration Management System has Puppet at the core and relies on over a dozen core and emerging AWS products across accounts, availability zones and regions. This complex and globally-available system ensures all of TCCC’s workloads in AWS meet corporate policies but also allows for rapid scale of both consumer and enterprise workloads. Session sponsored by 2nd Watch.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
