Functional Web Development – An Introduction to React.js
with Bertrand Karerangabo
Presented at FITC's Web Unleashed 2014 conference
on September 18 2014
More info at www.fitc.ca
React.js is a UI framework created by Facebook and Instagram. Its primary design goal is to help build large applications with data that changes over time. To do so at scale, conventional wisdom and some long-held assumptions about software development had to be challenged. Gone are the “M” and the “C” in MVC. Gone are templates and special HTML directives. Gone also are traditional data-bindings. The results are applications that are extremely fast and reliable, out of the box.
Bertrand Karerangabo will dive into those concepts that make React.js unique and along the way, also learn how to build web applications from simple, composable and reusable components.
OBJECTIVE
Rethink web development best practices and explore how you can build ambitious and performant application using functional programming with a virtual DOM representation.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Javascript developers working on medium to large dynamic applications.
ASSUMED AUDIENCE KNOWLEDGE
A solid understanding of Javascript and the DOM is strongly recommended.
FIVE THINGS AUDIENCE MEMBERS WILL LEARN
What React.js is and why it was built.
How to deal with the “evil” of mutable state in non-trivial applications.
A strategy for working around notoriously slow and expensive DOM operations.
The way to truly separate concerns, instead of just technologies, in an application.
The SEO, performance and usability benefits that come from using a client-side framework that plays nice with the server.

Enabling Ad-hoc Business Process Adaptations through Event-driven Task Decoup...Malinda Kapuruge
The ability to adapt running process instances is a key requirement to handle exceptions in service orchestrations. The design of the orchestration middleware and its underlying meta-model plays an important role to fulfill this requirement. However, current service orchestration middleware such as BPEL engines suffer from their imperative and tightly coupled task execution mechanisms making it difficult to adapt running process instances. In this paper we present a novel service orchestration middleware and its underlying meta-model to overcome this limitation. To achieve this, we combine the benefits of the models@runtime concept with the event-driven publish-subscribe mechanism. We evaluate our approach for its support to process instance adaptation and compare its performance to an existing orchestration runtime.

Presentation: Practical AngularJS
AngularJS has been seen gaining momentum recently. Whether you want to develop a modern single-page application or to spice up only the view enabled by a traditional MVC web framework, AngularJS allows you to write cleaner, shorter code. AngularJS’ two-way data binding feature allows a declarative approach on views and controllers, and ultimately code modulization. With this strategic change and many features offered by AngularJS, learning AngularJS can be challenging. In this session, we will share some of the experiences we had in Angular UI development, we will cover:
AngularJS modules and common project setup
Communicating to a Restful service
Commonly used Angular functions, directives
UI Bootstrap, grid views and forms in AngularJS
Custom Angular directives
Asynchronous functions and event processing
While SQL is a simple declarative language, it can be used in very advanced ways when querying streams of data on Kafka - in this talk Kenny will discuss techniques like advanced time specification, complex event processing (CEP), unifying sparse events, restart from failure, and even using Kafka metadata like message size.He will deep dive into how schema management, data serialization formats, Apache Flink and SQL all work together to successfully process data. He will cover advanced SQL techniques, architecture, recovery and scalability strategies from a full stack point of view.
Attendees will see a demo of end-to-end processing pipeline showing features and capabilities of SQL Stream Builder that show new powerful capabilities within the SQL engine itself. Cosmetic shop management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
Buying new cosmetic products is difficult. It can even be scary for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to skin trouble. The information needed to alleviate this problem is on the back of each product, but it's thought to interpret those ingredient lists unless you have a background in chemistry.
Instead of buying and hoping for the best, we can use data science to help us predict which products may be good fits for us. It includes various function programs to do the above mentioned tasks.
Data file handling has been effectively used in the program.
The automated cosmetic shop management system should deal with the automation of general workflow and administration process of the shop. The main processes of the system focus on customer's request where the system is able to search the most appropriate products and deliver it to the customers. It should help the employees to quickly identify the list of cosmetic product that have reached the minimum quantity and also keep a track of expired date for each cosmetic product. It should help the employees to find the rack number in which the product is placed. It is also Faster and more efficient way.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.
