Psoriasis is more common in African Americans than Caucasians. The data showed that African Americans have a higher rate of psoriasis than Caucasians despite the initial hypothesis that psoriasis would be more common in Caucasians due to dry skin from temperature changes. African Americans experience more humid conditions that cause dry, irritated skin, increasing the concentration of irritants and risk of psoriasis compared to Caucasians living in more tropical climates. Maintaining moisturized skin can help prevent psoriasis flare-ups.
