Choking or airway obstruction is an emergency and this situation can develop anywhere. This presentation can help everybody to deal this kind of emergency
This presentation is designed to cover some of the principles of Basic Life Support & First Aid as of January 2012. This includes things such as;
- DRABCD
- Care for Bleeding
- Care for Shock
- First Aid for Sprains & Strains
- Care for dislocations and fractures
- Poisoning
- Burns
- Diabetic Emergencies
It is not comprehensive, but is designed to refresh those who have had any previous experience in Basic Life Support. In saying that being able to apply some of these skills is useful for anyone.
This is the latest version of the presentation.
Deaths from choking most often occur in the very young (children under 2 years old) and in the elderly (adults over 75 years). Obstruction of the airway can occur at the level of the pharynx or the trachea. Foods that can adapt their shape to that of the pharynx (such as bananas, marshmallows, or gelatinous candies) can be a danger not just for children but for persons of any age.
Insufficient oxygen being delivered to the body will result in oxygen deprivation. Although oxygen stored in the blood and lungs can keep a person alive for several minutes after breathing stops, this sequence of events can lead to death

“Saving Lives Whilst Giving Peace Of Mind”
LifeVac is a revolutionary
novel anti choking device,
that can be used by anyone.
LifeVac is designed with a patented valve to prevent any air from
exiting through the mask. This patented designed valve prevents
air from pushing food or objects downward. This creates a
one-way suction to remove the lodged food or object.
• No prescription required
• Generates over 300 mmhg of suction
A choking death occurs every two hours and over
100,000 cases are treated in the UK every year.
Abdominal thrusts and back blows only work upto
47% of the time, LifeVac is 99.9% effective, non
invasive and is no risk to the casualty.
We have given peace of mind to hundreds of people
worldwide. Pregnancy, neurological disorders, obesity,
the elderly and disability are just a few reasons why
people can’t receive abdominal thrusts and back blows.
LifeVac is FDA approved, Canadian Health Service
approved, MHRA approved as a class 1 medical device
and CE accredited. Help us save lives and be a
member of our growing LifeVac family.
Choking is the third leading cause of death in children under 5.
One child dies every five days from choking.
There are 400 million people worldwide with a swallowing disorder.
Roughly 4500 people die each year from choking.
Together we can end these unnecessary deaths and
people becoming brain damaged through choking.
