Animals Displaying Homosexual
Behaviour
By Ana Vasilescu
Can animals show homosexual tendencies
It is well known that many humans are
homosexual is well known but this behaviour is
also common across the animal kingdom.
Animals have been observed engaging in same-
sex matings for decades. But for most of that
time, the documented cases were largely seen
as anomalies or curiosities. Researchers say “in
many species males and females look pretty
much alike. But while hundreds of species have
been documented doing it on isolated
occasions, only a handful have made it a
habitual part of their lives”
Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection implies that genes
have to get themselves passed on to the next generation, or they will
die out. Any genes that make an animal more likely to engage in same-
sex matings would be less likely to get passed on than genes pushing
for heterosexual pairings, so homosexuality ought to quickly die
out.But that evidently isn't what's happening. For some animals,
homosexual behaviour isn't an occasional event – which we might put
down to simple mistakes – but a regular thing.
Which animals show homosexual tendencies
Many animals have been shown portraying homoseual behaviour, be it temporary or long-term, here are the most
famous homosexual animals:
Rams
Giraffes
Penguins
Dragonflies
Bonobos
Seagulls
Can dogs show homosexual tendencies and
how?
In order to make our film accurate i wanted to
research the behaviour which dogs specifically
portray when showing homosexual behaviour and if
they can be homosexual in the first place.
Studies have shown that dogs to postray
homosexual behaviour like trying to mate with the
same-sex however, we don’t know whether they are
“gay” in the same way humans are simply because
dogs don’t have a sexual orientation the way
humans do. Nevertheless, dogs can still portray
sexual behaviour.
In terms of how dogs show this type of behaviour dogs are
either try to mate with other same-sex dogs or might be
overly affectionate and friendly.
