WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
In order to determine whether I have been successful in
conforming to the brief of creating a promotion package
for the release of an album, consisting of a music promo
video, digipak and advert, I have constructed a
questionnaire including questions based on this brief and
which will allow me to obtain relative results,
demonstrating how I have been successful in the creation
of my 3 media texts. In this presentation, I will discuss
each question that was included within my questionnaire
in detail and reflect upon the answers I received.

I asked this question to determine whether I have been successful in portraying
the genre of Hip Hop through my music video and ancillary tasks. Personally, I
believe my products clearly fit this genre due to the mise en scene of each, as
they all refer to the dark clothing of the artist as well as the black and white
effect in each production, which are conventional features of this genre. As the
bar chart in the previous slide displays, 100% of people I asked stated that they
believe my music video and ancillary tasks fit the Hip Hop genre. This is
beneficial as it shows that I have been successful in portraying this aspect of the
genre.

This question enabled me to determine whether my audience thought that each
of these products fit this genre well as well as hot they did so. As portrayed from
the bar chart in the previous slide, the vast majority of people I asked thought
that my products did fit the Hip Hop genre. As I mentioned earlier, I believed how
the mise en scene, specifically the costuming, and the black and white effect
enabled each of my products to fit the Hip Hop genre and most agreed with this
statement. They stated how the dark costuming and black and white theme’s are
typical of the Hip Hop genre and this is apparent on all my products. Those who
disagreed, however stated that the costuming of my artist wasn’t typical of the
Hip Hop genre as you would expect more bling, hoodie’s and other typical
gangster clothing.

By asking this question allowed me to identify that my audience could clearly view the link between
both my music video and ancillary tasks and how they all promote the same thing, as the vast
majority answered “yes”. Most of these candidates stated this was due to the colour of the all 3
media texts were similar/the same. They were able to identify the constant black and white colour
theme apparent throughout my music video and in my advert and digipak. This was due to the fact
of how in the digipak and advert, the artist was the only thing in colour, compared to the black and
white background, which links with the black and white music video. They also mentioned the theme
of power and authority was apparent in all 3 media productions. As the song is based on
stereotypes and prejudice, I decided to include the black and white theme to demonstrate the
seriousness of the theme and how it should be taken seriously. In addition to this, in my digipak and
advert, my artist was the only one in colour to portray how the way he thinks is different to the
thoughts and opinions around him, thus wanting to gain power to share his thoughts. My feedback
showed that people were able to identify the link of the use of colour and themes within my music
video as well as in my digipak and magazine advert.

As displayed in the bar chart, the majority of people were able to understand the narrative of
the music video and how it links to my artist. This is beneficial as I wasn’t sure if people were
going to understand and identify this link and the deep messages in my video. As the people
stated, the link between the narrative and the artist is the fact the video is from his perspective
and opinion on the stereotypical and prejudice representations of different ethnicities (such as
the Asian character meditation is a stereotype) . It was also stated how the fact that the artist’s
ethnicity is black is what gave them the idea of stereotypes and discrimination as their
ethnicity is largely prejudiced against and how there is a lot of racism against them in society.
Due to this, I thought It would be a good idea for a black person to be the one to share his
idea on this unfair society with the audience, thus justifying why the poster has the artist
looking at the camera; also due to how it is conventional for black people to be associated
with Hip Hop. This is beneficial as the audience can fully understand the meaning and
messages behind the narrative, thus becoming appealed to it.

This question was specifically aimed at identifying my target audience and whether I have obtained
a secondary audience. As shown from the bar chart, the vast majority of people stated that each of
these products do appeal to them. Most people stated that this was because of the way ach product
linked with each other and how they were able to identify that they were promoting the same thing,
just by viewing them, which was my intention. Most also said how they liked the editing techniques
in used in my video, specifically the black and white effect, which is also apparent in my ancillary
tasks. Most people also stated how they were appealed to the costuming of the artist due to how it
is currently fashionable, thus they said that it is what they would typically wear. In addition to this,
some also found the narrative relatable and interesting as some of them stated how they were a
victim to prejudice and/or someone else having power over them and wish for it to stop, just as the
artist wishes and what is represented in my 3 products. I found that the vast majority of teens I
asked answered “yes”, as opposed to nearly no people of other ages answered “yes”. This then
clearly demonstrates that I am targeting the correct age group and proves the fact that teenagers
are my primary audience. Some older people, who are my secondary audience, stated that this does
now appeal to them and how it would to their teenage children, therefore showing how they may still
consume these products.
REFLECTION
Overall, It is vital that I have been successful in conforming to the brief, which is ‘To
create a promotion for the release of an album, to include a music promo video,
together with a digipak and advert’. This is due to the fact that I was able to
differentiate my primary and secondary audience and identify that my primary
audience are teenagers. The results shown from each question, as far as the
majority voted, were all positive, therefore proving how I have been successful.
From fulfilling this evaluation, I have learnt what my specific target audience are
appealed to within each of my products, such as the black and white theme, the use
of props, the costumes, the representation of my artist, etc. Therefore, this enables
me to gain an understanding on how to properly target my audience in the future. If I
were to change any factor within my music video, it would be to alter the location for
my artist and my artist’s attire as some commented on how it would represent the
black ethnicity and stereotype well if I made him out to be more like a gangster
(wearing blind, tracksuits, hoodies, etc.) and be set in ghetto/rough areas.

How audience feedback helped improve a music promotion package

  • 1. Diego Nuccio WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
  • 2. In order to determine whether I have been successful in conforming to the brief of creating a promotion package for the release of an album, consisting of a music promo video, digipak and advert, I have constructed a questionnaire including questions based on this brief and which will allow me to obtain relative results, demonstrating how I have been successful in the creation of my 3 media texts. In this presentation, I will discuss each question that was included within my questionnaire in detail and reflect upon the answers I received.

  • 4. WHAT GENRE DO YOU THINK MY PRODUCTIONS ARE A PART OF? I asked this question to determine whether I have been successful in portraying the genre of Hip Hop through my music video and ancillary tasks. Personally, I believe my products clearly fit this genre due to the mise en scene of each, as they all refer to the dark clothing of the artist as well as the black and white effect in each production, which are conventional features of this genre. As the bar chart in the previous slide displays, 100% of people I asked stated that they believe my music video and ancillary tasks fit the Hip Hop genre. This is beneficial as it shows that I have been successful in portraying this aspect of the genre.

  • 6. DO YOU THINK THEY FIT THE GENRE WELL? This question enabled me to determine whether my audience thought that each of these products fit this genre well as well as hot they did so. As portrayed from the bar chart in the previous slide, the vast majority of people I asked thought that my products did fit the Hip Hop genre. As I mentioned earlier, I believed how the mise en scene, specifically the costuming, and the black and white effect enabled each of my products to fit the Hip Hop genre and most agreed with this statement. They stated how the dark costuming and black and white theme’s are typical of the Hip Hop genre and this is apparent on all my products. Those who disagreed, however stated that the costuming of my artist wasn’t typical of the Hip Hop genre as you would expect more bling, hoodie’s and other typical gangster clothing.

  • 8. IS THERE ANY RECOGNIZABLE LINK BETWEEN MY MUSIC VIDEO AND THE ANCILLARY TASKS? By asking this question allowed me to identify that my audience could clearly view the link between both my music video and ancillary tasks and how they all promote the same thing, as the vast majority answered “yes”. Most of these candidates stated this was due to the colour of the all 3 media texts were similar/the same. They were able to identify the constant black and white colour theme apparent throughout my music video and in my advert and digipak. This was due to the fact of how in the digipak and advert, the artist was the only thing in colour, compared to the black and white background, which links with the black and white music video. They also mentioned the theme of power and authority was apparent in all 3 media productions. As the song is based on stereotypes and prejudice, I decided to include the black and white theme to demonstrate the seriousness of the theme and how it should be taken seriously. In addition to this, in my digipak and advert, my artist was the only one in colour to portray how the way he thinks is different to the thoughts and opinions around him, thus wanting to gain power to share his thoughts. My feedback showed that people were able to identify the link of the use of colour and themes within my music video as well as in my digipak and magazine advert.

  • 10. DID YOU UNDERSTAND THE NARRATIVE OF THE MUSIC VIDEO AND HOW IT IS LINKED TO MY ARTIST? As displayed in the bar chart, the majority of people were able to understand the narrative of the music video and how it links to my artist. This is beneficial as I wasn’t sure if people were going to understand and identify this link and the deep messages in my video. As the people stated, the link between the narrative and the artist is the fact the video is from his perspective and opinion on the stereotypical and prejudice representations of different ethnicities (such as the Asian character meditation is a stereotype) . It was also stated how the fact that the artist’s ethnicity is black is what gave them the idea of stereotypes and discrimination as their ethnicity is largely prejudiced against and how there is a lot of racism against them in society. Due to this, I thought It would be a good idea for a black person to be the one to share his idea on this unfair society with the audience, thus justifying why the poster has the artist looking at the camera; also due to how it is conventional for black people to be associated with Hip Hop. This is beneficial as the audience can fully understand the meaning and messages behind the narrative, thus becoming appealed to it.

  • 12. DO EACH OF THESE MEDIA TEXTS APPEAL TO YOU? IF SO, IN WHAT WAY? This question was specifically aimed at identifying my target audience and whether I have obtained a secondary audience. As shown from the bar chart, the vast majority of people stated that each of these products do appeal to them. Most people stated that this was because of the way ach product linked with each other and how they were able to identify that they were promoting the same thing, just by viewing them, which was my intention. Most also said how they liked the editing techniques in used in my video, specifically the black and white effect, which is also apparent in my ancillary tasks. Most people also stated how they were appealed to the costuming of the artist due to how it is currently fashionable, thus they said that it is what they would typically wear. In addition to this, some also found the narrative relatable and interesting as some of them stated how they were a victim to prejudice and/or someone else having power over them and wish for it to stop, just as the artist wishes and what is represented in my 3 products. I found that the vast majority of teens I asked answered “yes”, as opposed to nearly no people of other ages answered “yes”. This then clearly demonstrates that I am targeting the correct age group and proves the fact that teenagers are my primary audience. Some older people, who are my secondary audience, stated that this does now appeal to them and how it would to their teenage children, therefore showing how they may still consume these products.
  • 13. REFLECTION Overall, It is vital that I have been successful in conforming to the brief, which is ‘To create a promotion for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with a digipak and advert’. This is due to the fact that I was able to differentiate my primary and secondary audience and identify that my primary audience are teenagers. The results shown from each question, as far as the majority voted, were all positive, therefore proving how I have been successful. From fulfilling this evaluation, I have learnt what my specific target audience are appealed to within each of my products, such as the black and white theme, the use of props, the costumes, the representation of my artist, etc. Therefore, this enables me to gain an understanding on how to properly target my audience in the future. If I were to change any factor within my music video, it would be to alter the location for my artist and my artist’s attire as some commented on how it would represent the black ethnicity and stereotype well if I made him out to be more like a gangster (wearing blind, tracksuits, hoodies, etc.) and be set in ghetto/rough areas.
