Enhancing the interaction space of a tabletop computing system to design pape...Francesco Bonadiman
This is the presentation of my Master Thesis, which presents new low-tech interaction techniques developed to enhance the user interaction in tabletop computing environments. These low-tech approaches, indeed, aim at creating a valuable alternative to high-tech solutions, which instead focus their interaction on computer and mobile devices. Electronic tools, in fact, tend to distract the users and disturb the creative design process when working with low-tech methods within tabletop-based environments. The new interaction techniques were designed, implemented and finally applied to a tabletop computing system conceived to enhance paper-prototyping for mobile devices. This way, designers do not need to continuously shift the fidelity of the media they are working with and are able to perform a number of different actions on the paper sketches (like editing or duplicating screens) by only using low-tech solutions. Therefore, these interaction techniques are evaluated with users to assess how fast or mentally demanding they are and which of the developed approaches is preferred.

PROGRESS UPDATE PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH / WEEK(Including Possible
Contingency Plans If Problems Anticipated)
Mon W/B 25/02/13
(Detailed Weekly Summary)
We will each come up with an idea for a music video in detail, with
a script of the audio and shots ect, then after each of us are happy
with their idea we will meet up together as a group and all decided
the best and most doable/realistic music video.
The possible problems what may occur from this is that
we need to rely on each group member to have there
“pitch” for their music video ready on time, as we need
to decide which is best, if this problem occurs we will
just have to go ahead regardless if all members have put
there idea across; and just go with the ideas that are in
front of us at that time.

(Detailed Weekly Summary)
After we have decided which music video we are going for we will
then look at it and try to come up with better ideas within the
group to try and get the best possible outcome. We will all go
through the song and music video and each create a script of shots
and what we want to happen at what time.

Mon W/B 11/03/13
(Detailed Weekly Summary)
We will all have each a script for the chosen music video, and
alterations by each of each other that we feel that will improve the
quality of the music video. Then as a group we will decide which
script is better and what will look best ect.
It is unlikely but this may cause disruption within the
group as each person may feel strongly about their
script and become biases and say there music video
script is better, which may cause issues and maybe
arguments. To stop this from happening, we will each
closely look at each script and see which one is actually
best, with a fair and neutral view. And if needed, blend
some ideas of all the scripts together.

(Detailed Weekly Summary)
Once decided on what second draft script we will be going ahead
with, and maybe ideas from all the groups different scripts, we will
create a story board in detail for shot by shot on how we want the
music video to be held out. We will all split the drawing and writing
evenly to save time rather than having one person do the lot.
If a person is bad at drawing or something along the
lines it may cause issues as it may be hard to see or
understand what the shot is later down the line. To
solve this problem we will take are time when during to
make sure that the drawings are easy to understand.

(Detailed Weekly Summary)
Having the detailed story board will now be able to contact the
high school in where we want to film and set a date asap to when
we can film, also try and get some people from the high school
who will be in are music video. We will also book at date to use the
cameras and equipment so when are set date to film is said we will
have the equipment to produce the best music video with good
To find a date in which the people who are helping use
by being in are music video, and the group are all able
to film may be a struggle as its being filmed out of
college hours

shots.
Mon W/B 08/04/13
(Detailed Weekly Summary)
Having set the date to film we will record all the footage we have
stated to film In the planning so we can stick to the script
Issues may involve the actually equipment, such as the
camera running out. The way we are preventing this
from happening is bringing a second camera.
Mon W/B 15/04/13
(Detailed Weekly Summary)
Having all the shots we need and have planned to film we will take
them and put them on the computer for myself and the group to
access. With the footage will we all take turns in renaming the files
so we will know what shot, length and what it is actually being
filmed. With the shots, we will then edit them all for a rough edit,
and get a basic idea for our music video.
Some of the computers are slow, do not respond and
cannot handle HD footage, what this means is that it
may be a possibility that the computers may not lost
footage and edited programs. A way we are going to
prevent this is to save are work every 15 mins and back
them up on a different hard drive, so if worse comes to
worse, we have a saved copy on a different drive.
Mon W/B 22/04/13
(Detailed Weekly Summary)
By this time I will have a rendered copy of music video that I am
happy with, with this I tend to have a go with the skills I have
gained to create a final copy with the changes that I want, and to
have a fully rendered HD final copy of my music video.
The issues that may occur as as the same as previous.
And the way we will prevent them are as same as
previous. (Mon W/B 15/04/13).
