This paper presents a new vertical handover algorithm for integrated macrocell-femtocell networks, addressing the increased demand for better connectivity as mobile users rely more on their devices. The proposed algorithm calculates equivalent received signal strength and utilizes a dynamic margin, resulting in significant reductions in packet loss ratio and unnecessary handovers when compared to traditional algorithms. Simulation results indicate improvements of up to 55.27% in packet loss and 61.85% in unnecessary handovers at high speeds.
