This document summarizes research on developing a novel polymeric surfactant based on sugar for use in hand washes. Researchers synthesized various sugar-based polymers and analyzed their properties. One polymer was selected for its high viscosity, acid value, and cleaning performance. This polymer was used in formulations of hand wash compositions at concentrations of 25-35%. The hand wash compositions were analyzed and found to have desirable properties like pH, foaming, viscosity, and surface tension reduction comparable to a commercial hand wash product. The sugar-based polymer and hand wash compositions developed in this study provide a potentially eco-friendly alternative to conventional surfactants used in hand washes.
