Sokal, Ukraine is known from written sources since 1377, though scientists believe it was founded in the 11th century and destroyed by invaders in the 13th century. The city was located on the left bank of the Western Bug River, with a castle inhabited by Prince Zemovit on the right bank where the City Park is now.
