(Luke 2:6-14) So it was, that while they were there, the
days were completed for her to be delivered. {7} And she
brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in
swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because
there was no room for them in the inn. {8} Now there
were in the same country shepherds living out in the
fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. {9} And
behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the
glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were
greatly afraid. {10} Then the angel said to them, "Do not
be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great
joy which will be to all people. {11} "For there is born to
you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ
the Lord. {12} "And this will be the sign to you: You will
find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a
manger." {13} And suddenly there was with the angel a
multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
{14} "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace,
goodwill toward men!"
A.Jesus was born into this world to be a
Savior (11)
B.The term “Savior” implies some very
important things for us to consider
A. HELP IS NOT NEEDED IF THERE IS NO THREAT
B. OUR THREAT WAS THE GUILT AND PENALTY OF SIN
1. (Mat 1:21) "And she will bring forth a Son, and you
shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people
from their sins."
2. (Rom 3:23) for all have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God,
3. (1 John 1:8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive
ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
4. (Rom 6:23) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift
of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
C. JESUS SAVED US FROM OUR SIN - (Rom 5:8-10) But
God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while
we were still sinners, Christ died for us. {9} Much more
then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be
saved from wrath through Him. {10} For if when we were
enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of
His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be
saved by His life.
A.OUR SIN HAD SEPARATED US FROM OUR GOD -
Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold, the LORD'S hand is not
shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy,
That it cannot hear. (2) But your iniquities have
separated you from your God; And your sins have
hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.
B.JESUS CAME TO DELIVER US FROM…
1. THE POWER OF SATAN AND SIN - (Acts 26:17-
18) 'I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as
well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send
you, {18} 'to open their eyes, in order to turn
them from darkness to light, and from the power
of Satan to God, that they may receive
forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among
those who are sanctified by faith in Me.'
B. JESUS CAME TO DELIVER US FROM…
2. THE PUNISHMENT OF SIN - (1 John
4:17-18) Love has been perfected
among us in this: that we may have
boldness in the day of judgment;
because as He is, so are we in this
world. {18} There is no fear in love; but
perfect love casts out fear, because fear
involves torment. But he who fears has
not been made perfect in love.
B. JESUS CAME TO DELIVER US FROM…
3.THE PRESENCE AND PRACTICE OF SIN -
(Rom 6:11-14) Likewise you also, reckon
yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but
alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. {12}
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal
body, that you should obey it in its lusts.
{13} And do not present your members as
instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but
present yourselves to God as being alive
from the dead, and your members as
instruments of righteousness to God. {14}
For sin shall not have dominion over you,
for you are not under law but under grace.
A.Why would anyone reject a savior?
1. A drowning man
2. A woman in a burning building
3. A person with a terminal illness
B. We must trust god and turn our lives over to him
1. Man fell off cliff grabbed a bush and yells out, “is there
anyone there?” A voice said, “This is God, let go and i
will save you.” There is silence and then the man calls
out, “is there anyone else there?”
2. (2 Cor 1:9-10) Yes, we had the sentence of death in
ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in
God who raises the dead, {10} who delivered us from
so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we
trust that He will still deliver us,
3. (1 Tim 6:17) Command those who are rich in this
present age not to be
4. haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the
living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.
5. (2 Tim 1:12) For this reason I also suffer these things;
nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I
have believed and am persuaded that He is able to
keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.
A.THE DROWNING MAN, THE BURNING WOMAN AND THE
DYING PERSON MUST PUT THEMSELVES INTO THE
HANDS OF THE SAVIOR AND GIVE THEIR WILL OVER TO
HIM.
B.(2 Cor 5:15) and He died for all, that those who live
should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who
died for them and rose again.
C.(Gal 2:20) "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no
longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which
I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who
loved me and gave Himself for me.
D.(1 Pet 2:7-8) Therefore, to you who believe, He is
precious; but to those who are disobedient, "The stone
which the builders rejected Has become the chief
cornerstone," {8} and "A stone of stumbling And a rock of
offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to
which they also were appointed.
A. We all have a need for a savior
B. We should all have the hope for deliverance
C. We will have a much better life by accepting
salvation
D. We must fulfill our responsibility in our
salvation
1. (Phil 2:12-13) Therefore, my beloved, as
you have always obeyed, not as in my
presence only, but now much more in my
absence, work out your own salvation
with fear and trembling; {13} for it is God
who works in you both to will and to do
for His good pleasure.
D. We must fulfill our responsibility in our
salvation
2. (Rom 6:16-18) Do you not know that to
whom you present yourselves slaves to
obey, you are that one's slaves whom you
obey, whether of sin leading to death, or
of obedience leading to righteousness?
{17} But God be thanked that though you
were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from
the heart that form of doctrine to which
you were delivered. {18} And having been
set free from sin, you became slaves of
righteousness.
D.We must fulfill our responsibility in our
salvation
3. To become a child of God, our
responsibility is to…
a. Believe in and trust Jesus as our
Savior
b. Recognize and repent of our
sinfulness
c. Confess Jesus as your Savior (Son of
God, Messiah)
d. Be united with Christ in baptism to
wash away our sin
D.We must fulfill our responsibility in our
salvation
4. As a child of God, we must recognize
our sins since our baptism and repent of
those sins and confess them
