Rom 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
a savior implies a need, hope for deliverance, a better way of life, and responsibility on our part, Luke 2:6-14. Jesus was born into this world to be a savior.
Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Tit 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
The term Progressive revelation states that God reveals His will and the mystery of Himself to humanity throughout stages in time. Therefore, the progressive revelation of the name refers to the various names God use to express the revelation of Himself throughout history.

Coffman Commentaries, “This great chapter treats the question of The First Commandment, i.e., that people should love God with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength. Significantly, it was to the Book of Deuteronomy that the Son of God Himself turned for the material with which he frustrated and defeated the prince of evil on the occasion of the Saviour's temptation (Matt. 4). It was to this very chapter that Jesus turned for the word that confounded and defeated the sophistry of the Pharisees on the occasion of their captious question, "Which is the great
commandment in the law?" (Matthew 22:34). This is an appropriate place, therefore, to note how frequently Christ, the apostles, and the writers of the N.T. quoted directly from Deuteronomy. As a matter of fact, the Cross-Reference Bible (ASV) has exactly 182 N.T. references to
Deuteronomy listed in the marginal columns,F1 and there are many others not included in these, among which are a number of the following 52 references listed because they are generally known:
The Law of God is eternal. The law of God existed before the children of Israel came to Mount Sinai. Prior to that time, it was a spoken word that was taught from father to son. But, from the time of Moses it was a written word, so holy and pure that God did not allow Moses to write it. He wrote it himself on two tables of stone.

We all have been born into this world with an incorrect understanding of God's character, government and his dealing with the sin problem. This pre-disposition dictates how we worship God, and how we treat our fellow-men. This series of presentations seeks to bring a clearer insight into some of those provoking questions about God's character. Part 1 of 5

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
3. Do not add or take away. Deuteronomy 4:1-2
The consequences of rebellion. Deuteronomy 4:3
Following God. Deuteronomy 4:4
Our wisdom. Deuteronomy 4:5-6
A great nation. Deuteronomy 4:7-9
Deuteronomy 4:1-9 contains a study on God’s Law
and the consequences of obeying it or rejecting it.
God’s Law is holy, perfect, and wise.
Can we add or change anything in the Law to make it
“more perfect”? How is Law related to wisdom? Can
we get renown in this life by obeying the Law?
4. We would be taking God’s place if we tried to make the perfect Law even
“more perfect” by adding or removing something from it. That was Satan’s
desire. His propaganda during his rebellion defended that the Law was
imperfect, so changing it was urgent.
Satan has induced the people of God to add
new rules to the Law through history. For
example, by mixing truth with pagan
customs, inventing new laws, establishing
traditions (2K. 17:33; 1K. 12:33; Mt. 15:3-6).
He even encouraged them to remove commandments like the second
one, in order to worship God through images. The people of God has
suffered the consequences in every instance.
5. “Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at Baal Peor; for the Lord your God has
destroyed from among you all the men who followed Baal of Peor.” (Deuteronomy 4:3)
Trying to change the Law has consequences, and openly breaking it
also has.
Balaam encouraged the Moabite women to seduce the Israelite
men (Nm. 31:15-16). The Israelites that accepted their provocation
quickly turned their physical adultery into spiritual adultery
(Nm. 25:1-2).
By hardening their consciences with the first
sin, the physical one, they were ripe for
falling into the latter one, the spiritual one,
which must have been Satan’s ultimate goal.
God intervened by demanding a drastic response to that flagrant sin
(Nm. 25:5-8). Accepted sins lead to rebellion, and to complete
separation from God eventually.
6. “But you who held fast to the Lord your God are
alive today, every one of you.” (Deuteronomy 4:4)
About 24,000 people followed Baal
Peor. Moses introduces those who
followed God instead.
There’s no middle ground. You can
only follow either God or the enemy (Mt. 12:30). You
must decide to cling to God, and the power to resist
temptation will come from Him (Jude 24).
God is able to keep us from falling. But we have to make the
conscious choice, as did the faithful at Baal Peor, to cleave to
God. If so, then we can be assured that, whatever the
temptation, we can remain faithful.

7. “Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding
in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, ‘Surely this great
nation is a wise and understanding people.’” (Deuteronomy 4:6)
According to this verse, when will people say that
Christians are “a wise and understanding people”?
When they hear about the laws that govern us. And they
will hear about them only when we keep them and put
them into practice. That is, when we live according to
God’s Law, living a life consistent with our preaching.
The laws that governed the people of Israel were perfect.
However, they failed as God’s representatives and light of
the world, because they disobeyed them.
We are the salt of the earth, the light of the world
(Mt. 5:13-16). Let’s shine by giving a daily testimony with
our obedience to the perfect Law.
8. “For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord
our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him? And what
great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as
are in all this law which I set before you this day?” (Deuteronomy 4:7-8)
God chose the
descendants of
Abraham to make a
great nation of them,
and to bless all
humanity through them
(Gn. 12:2-3).
God was with them.
He was a close God
They had fair laws
and trials
God has also chosen us to bless
humanity with the message of
Salvation.
Why are you a “great person”?
Why was
Israel a
“great
nation”?
9. “The purpose which God seeks to accomplish through
His people today is the same that He desired to
accomplish through Israel when He brought them
forth out of Egypt. By beholding the goodness, the
mercy, the justice, and the love of God revealed in the
church, the world is to have a representation of His
character. And when the law of God is thus
exemplified in the life, even the world will recognize
the superiority of those who love and fear and serve
God above every other people on the earth.”
E. G. W. (Testimonies for the Church, book 6, cp. 1, p. 12)
