The Congress of Vienna met from September 1814 to June 1815 with the main goals of restoring order in Europe after Napoleon's defeat and establishing a system to prevent future wars. Key figures included Prince von Metternich of Austria, Lord Castlereagh of Britain, Tsar Alexander I of Russia, and Talleyrand of France. The Congress restored monarchies in France, Spain, Naples and other countries, strengthened some nations like the Netherlands and Prussia to balance power, and divided Poland between Russia, Prussia and Austria.
