Egypt has a long history dating back thousands of years with notable periods including the Ancient Egypt era known for constructing pyramids, the Ptolemaic and Roman rule, and the Muslim and Ottoman period when Egypt was absorbed into the Islamic Empire.

1) Venus was jealous of Psyche's beauty and commanded her son Cupid to make her undesirable, but he accidentally fell in love with her instead.
2) When no suitors came for Psyche, her family was told she must be sacrificed, so they left her on a mountain.
3) Psyche was taken to a palace by Zephyr and married a hidden lover who was revealed to be Cupid. But when she disobeyed and saw him, he fled.
Pyramus and thisbe
Pyramus and Thisbe fell in love but were forbidden from being together by their parents. They communicated through a crack in the wall between their homes and planned to elope by meeting at the Tomb of Ninus. Thisbe arrived first but was scared away by a lioness, leaving her cloak behind. Pyramus found the bloody cloak and, believing Thisbe was dead, killed himself. When Thisbe returned and found Pyramus dead, she also took her own life. The gods took pity on them and placed their ashes together in an urn.
Egyptian Literature
Thomas Eric Peet was an Egyptian archaeologist and academic in the early 20th century. He conducted excavations in Egypt from 1909 onwards and held teaching positions at Manchester University and the University of Liverpool, becoming the Brunner Professor of Egyptology. In 1933 he was appointed Reader in Egyptology at the University of Oxford. A poem by Peet is also included, expressing distrust of others and that human relations problems were as acute in ancient Egypt as today.

Vera, the heroine, not much of a speaker is very sensitive inside while the Man, the hero, good at the flowery words seems so insensitive and self-centered. Their different characters vividly reveal in the text in spite of almost the equal importance the author attached.
